However, negligible amounts ever make it past the skin due to a combination of two factors: the low permeability of cannabinoids through the skin; and that the cannabinoids have no incentive to penetrate the skin to enter the circulation. \n\nPatches attack both problems: Specialized molecules are attached to the cannabinoids to increase their permeability through the skin; and specialized molecules are attached to the backing of the patch that repel the cannabinoids towards and through the skin.\nI hope this helps!\n\n\ndrkim","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_8466-markdown","title":"How can the exact proportions and milligram amount of cannabinoids be documented in products?","slug":"how-can-the-exact-proportions-and-milligram-amount-of-cannabinoids-be-documented-in-products","content":"\n_____________________\nGreat question! The reality is that without lab testing to back up what is on the label, you will not know exact proportions. lab testing by a reputable lab is the only way you will get an absolute answer. U fortunately, many products are inaccurate in the dosage as the methods of manufacturing may not be consistent and/or the plant itself may be different from batch to batch. Lab test results are always a good idea so you know you have clean medicine. There are many to choose from Steep Hill, CW Labs and so on. I personally like to vape until the flavor is gone and then save the rest for making butter. That way I get to enjoy my flowers and then take the left overs and make some awesome butter. You could always turn up the temp to get more of the cannabinoids but since vaping is already far more efficient than smoking, I'm not mad that there is still a little left over on the AVB.\n\nseiboshen\n_____________________\nPretty thorough, but simple instructions to make cannabutter.\n\nhttp://cannabiskitchen.org/56/cooking/cooking-with-vaporized-weed/\n\nserenitynow","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7454-markdown","title":"What is the efficiency of converting plant matter into active cannabinoids?","slug":"what-is-the-efficiency-of-converting-plant-matter-into-active-cannabinoids","content":"\n_____________________\nmuch better than smoking as you are re vaping the same material over and over again, so you get everything out of the nugs with out losing any like when a joint is actively burning. \n\npretty much unless you are inhaling, you aren't creating vapor. so it only activates the THc while your inhaling. In addition: muscle spasms, chronic pain, leg weakness, difficulty sleeping. In my four years on medical marijuana, the blessed herb has “quelled” my pain enough to get some sleep, but not deep enough sleep to ever feel rested. My question for you is: What do you believe to be the best ratio of THC to CBD for muscle spasms and resulting pain. I wrote THE MEDICAL MARIJUANA HANDBOOK: A PATIENT’S GUIDE TO HOLISTIC HEALING WITH CANNABIS, so I know a bit on the topic -- but it's not easy finding specific ratios for specific issues. And, as I'm sure you know, other cannabinoids like CBN, CBG and CBC are also noted to help with pain and spasms, but almost never listed in a chemical analysis available to patients. A very well respected M.D. who has written books on cannabis told me to use a ratio of 3:1 CBD:THC. So I’m doing my own trial on that right now, using two separate products to get that ratio – or close to it, anyway. But I’d love to know your opinion. Thanks for being there and for your help! Norma\"\n_____________________\nI certainly don't have the kind of problems that you've had to deal with since birth but your question has significant complexity. I actually would like to know what you're doing the rest of the day. Are you taking CBD during the day? Do you have a good sleep hygiene, like wearing sunglasses about an hour before bedtime? Do you have a stressful job? Do you notice your mind won't shut up? Do you maintain a healthy blood level of vitamin D3? Are you doing Sativa and then following it with Indica? Have you tried a large doses of CBD or concentrated CBD? Are you rubbing your body down with 1:1 CBD: THC Salve before bedtime? Are you taking concentrated calcium (increases muscle spasms) or do you take magnesium? Have you had your genetic chart done with a methylation analysis? If you have your methylation analysis it may reveals at you need specific nutrients, or if you have COMT snps (Single nucleotide polymorphisms) in your chart, it indicates that you are very sensitive to neurotransmitter imbalances and you may benefit from stabilizing the neurotransmitters with other supplements.\nI would love to continue this dialogue but I can only answer one time and then you must come back in with a new entry in order for me to answer you again.\n\ndrolson\n_____________________\nHello there! To start off, I want to say kudos for taking the challenges of even \"mild\" CP and going on to overcome said challenges and even write a book on med. cann that has helped others! Besides the excellent advice from Dr. Olsen, I might add that you might want to look into two sets of med cann products. One set, for daytime, might have more CBD & THC and the other set of med cann products with more THC & CBN. The reason that I don't set a specific ratio of cannabinoids is that every person is different in their response! At least for me, one of the beauties of cann. medicine is that dosage is placed in the control of the patient. So I say go ahead and experiment; for example the 3:1 ratio of CBD:THC is probably not supported by any literature but by a pooled analysis of the pts seen by this physician. However, why not experiment (carefully) w/ 2:1 ratio? or 10:1? Don't forget, method of cann. intake will also effect the pharmacodynamics/ pharmacokinetics (what the drug does to the body and vice versa). That is, using a vape-pen will be a completely different experience from trying tincture drops in tea or even micro-dosing edibles. I hope that this helps; feel free to joing any of our qualified MD's for a tele-chat session!\n\ndrpark","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_6937-markdown","title":"Pain Mgmt - Weeds, Oil and THC with no response/reaction","slug":"pain-mgmt-weeds-oil-and-thc-with-no-response-reaction","content":"\"I am still in pursuit of finding relief for my severe (hydrocodone doesn't kill the pain) neck pain. For some reason I am not responding to anything I have smoke with a ceramic vaporizer or with any of the vape pens from W vapes, Bhang and Jetty. And yes I have tried the top strains for pain mgmt and have not gotten any relief. I even tried Girl Scouts and some other various strains with various THC strengths and I don't respond not even with a slight buzz. My friends think it's from being on such strong Rx's for so long. It has been recommended I try oil. There seems to be lots of different schools of thought on it. Especially the RSO since it's hemp vs cannabis and the different cannabinoids. After having spent so much money on trying so many different strains I can't afford to play the guessing game with the oils especially after trying various weed strains and getting no relief or even a buzz from those with THC in them. I have researched oils and even looked at menus in an effort to learn more but it seems focused on making your own oil than what oils are out there and what the options are and results. Even with the RSO all about making your own and then you have the hemp vs cannabinoid issue of effectiveness. I've gotten very frustrated and spent close to $500 in all these various experiments so I am seeking guidance/advice. \"\n_____________________\nThc is absorbed through the body so much differently than prescription medication that I don't think that's going to be your problem. My aunt who has been on everything from morphine to Oxy for her health issues reacted veryyy well with a relatively low dose of an edible. Your issue is most likely dosing. I take cannabis to manage pain from a bulging disc in my neck that's running a nerve and it does so well for nerve pain, but you have to make sure to take enough. I find smoking the easiest way to dose... because if you aren't getting your relief quickly, you can always go back outside and smoke a few more drags and see how you feel then. If You smoke enough of a solid thc rich strain, you will literally be in deep sleep within half an hour! Unless for whatever reason your body doesn't metabolize thc.. and that's rare. That being said, make sure you're using good meds, take your time in finding your dose, and keep trying until you do so!\n\ncannabear","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_6750-markdown","title":"Do you take steps to ensure that pesticides are not concentrated in your oils along with the cannabinoids?","slug":"do-you-take-steps-to-ensure-that-pesticides-are-not-concentrated-in-your-oils-along-with-the-cannabinoids","content":"\n_____________________\nIndeed we do! Kiva is currently expanding our educational materials to patients in a number of different ways. We are working on an informational booklet detailing the Safe Use Guidelines for Edibles, which will be available as both a print-out at Collectives and in digital form. We are also working with the CCIA (California Cannabis Industry Association) to debut an educational website specifically geared to California patients. It covers everything from the history of cannabis and shopping tips for buying different products to how to safely store cannabis products away from children. For more information on CBD specifically, Kiva has a CBD brochure about our products, growing methods, and benefits of CBD. This can be found at: http://kivaconfections.com/cbd. Also be sure to visit our Instagram page at www.instagram.com/kivaconfections1, where we post useful infographics for patients. Another great patient resource you may want to check out is Cannabis Reports at https://www.cannabisreports.com/cannabis-studies. This particular section breaks down the studies addressing cannabis' use for 157 different conditions. Cannabis is somewhat unique in it's ability to produce a wide variety of terpenes, giving different strains their distinct smells - pine, citrus, blueberry, etc. On their own, terpenes have their own medicinal benefits: pinene, (pine smell) for instance, has anti-inflammatory effects. \n\nThe individual medicinal properties of terpenes, and the fact that their structure is similar to cannabinoid structure, creates synergistic effects with cannabinoids. Myercene, the most common terpene found in cannabis, has an anti-inflammatory effect and is able to lower resistance across the blood-brain barrier, allowing cannabinoids to take effect more quickly.\n\nTo maximize the benefits of terpenes, they should be ingested below their boiling point, which range from 310-390 degrees F.\n\ndpan\n_____________________\ndPan provided a great answer! As he or she mentioned, terpenes are what contribute to all the different aromas (and sometimes flavors) that this amazing plant has to offer. As you become more familiar with some of the different terpenes out there you will start to recognize which smells tend to relate to certain terpenes. For example, limonene, as you can probably guess, gives off a citrus like aroma. As dPan mentioned, pinene tends to give off an aroma that reminds you of pine trees or pine resin. \n\nIn terms of synergy between terpenes and cannabinoids, dPan really hit it on the head. They work together to create somewhat of an \"entourage\" effect.\n\nAll that being said, we've only begun to really understand the science behind terpenes, cannabinoids and all the other aspects of cannabis. We still have a long way to do!\n\nadams","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11442-markdown","title":"what is Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome","slug":"what-is-cannabinoid-hyperemesis-syndrome","content":"\"My husband has been taking MM for a few weeks; he has a slow growing glioma.
