I am wondering if there is a difference between THC and CBD and which may help me get over this insomnia.**\n\nMitchell Y.\n\n------------------\n\nOK, I have some information for you to sleep on. Sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea are quite common in this country, and more and more people are trying cannabis as a sleep aid. This is, in fact, not new. Marijuana has been used as a [sleep aid for hundreds of years](https://hellomd.ca/articles/medical-marijuana-could-help-insomniacs-sleep-better). \n\nMore recently research has shown that the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a role in regulating sleep. Other research shows that marijuana cannabinoids tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) may also play a part in regulating the ECS, helping people to establish more regular sleeping patterns.\n\nThere is a [growing body of evidence](https://www.sleepfoundation.org/natural-sleep-aids/marijuana-for-sleep) to suggest that cannabis helps with conditions such as insomnia, though there is the question of whether it may be more beneficial for short-term use, whereas long-term use might actually cause problems with sleep.\n\n![Some cannabis products specifically target sleep - like the Dosist pen](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_29_19_PM_2051231cc9.png)\nThe Dosist pen 'Rest' targets sleep\n\n\nWith certain conditions, including chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), restless leg syndrome (RLS), and multiple sclerosis, cannabis may help people fall asleep faster, wake up less during the night, and enjoy better sleep quality overall. Other people report getting relief, and better sleep, when suffering from insomnia, anxiety, and pain.\n\nTHC typically works as a sedative, but it can be stimulating for some users, especially for those who are new to using cannabis or taking higher doses. In these cases, using marijuana before bed may result in a longer time of falling asleep. CBD appears to promote alertness at lower doses, and sleepiness at higher doses. \n\nOne study suggests that [CBD is more promising](https://hellomd.ca/articles/how-can-i-use-cannabis-to-ease-my-insomnia) as a treatment because even though THC may lessen sleep latency, long-term sleep patterns could be negatively affected.\n\nTHC improves sleep by reducing REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. REM sleep is associated with reducing dreams, which leads to better quality of sleep. However, REM sleep is a normal part of the body’s function and prolonged suppression could lead to serious sleeping problems.\n\nOn the other hand, decreasing REM sleep may provide some help for people with PTSD, because nightmares are a common symptom, so less dreaming is good. \n\n[CBD may also have fewer side effects](https://hellomd.ca/articles/medical-marijuana-could-help-insomniacs-sleep-better) for users than THC, since it’s not psychoactive and has no effects on the gastrointestinal system.\n\nRonnieC\n\n--------------\n\nIt’s also worth looking at the most common strains of cannabis: indica and sativa. Sativa tends to be more stimulating and people tend to use it for an energy boost. Indica tends to be more relaxing, promoting feelings of relaxation and sleepiness.\n\nSo many users suggest that indica is a better place to start looking for a sleep aid. But if you want to avoid nightmares, then sativa is worth exploring.\n\nUtopia Gilly\n\n-------------\n\nThere are studies that show that [CBD can work well](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/cbd-and-sleep#research) at high doses to promote sleep.\n\n![Sleep Synergy targets sleep with CBD and CBN](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_32_04_PM_657049cf0b.png)\n\nOne study worked on the basis that levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, usually hit their peak in the morning. However, those suffering from insomnia may have high cortisol levels at night, making them wake up. CBD was shown to reduce cortisol levels and help the study participants get better sleep.\n\nBasically, the best way to find out what will work best for you is to try different strains with different combinations of THC and CBD. Also try different methods of consumption, including smoking, vaping, pills, edibles, tinctures and so on.\n\nFor example, if you smoke or vape cannabis, you will find the onset (how fast it acts) is quick, but also ends quickly. With edibles, it takes longer for the cannabinoids to kick in, but the effects last longer — so these might be worth exploring by those who want a long night of sleep.\n\nJohnnyBgud\n\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/2wBDABALDA4MChAODQ4SERATGCgaGBYWGDEjJR0oOjM9PDkzODdASFxOQERXRTc4UG1RV19iZ2hnPk1xeXBkeFxlZ2P/2wBDARESEhgVGC8aGi9jQjhCY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2P/wgARCAANABQDASIAAhEBAxEB/8QAFwAAAwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQFAv/EABUBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEC/9oADAMBAAIQAxAAAAGkjT1KkOif/8QAGhABAAMAAwAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAgABAwQRE//aAAgBAQABBQLfTzh5Lc0KtaZ04TQrqf/EABQRAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABD/2gAIAQMBAT8BP//EABQRAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABD/2gAIAQIBAT8BP//EABsQAAIBBQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARAQIQEiJh/9oACAEBAAY/AuGsDxIYqYVv/8QAGxABAAMAAwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQARITFRYUH/2gAIAQEAAT8hQCHqZNz1VzTHBCdaPncrqPkd6s//2gAMAwEAAgADAAAAEOw//8QAFhEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEQEQ/9oACAEDAQE/EGGf/8QAFhEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEQEQ/9oACAECAQE/ECuf/8QAGhABAAMBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQARITFBcf/aAAgBAQABPxAljSAwfcLSDlypgvJrMhQrWjIvhmtO/X2Aqwz/2Q==","aspectRatio":1.5037593984962405,"src":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/14b42/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg","srcSet":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/f836f/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/2244e/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 400w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/14b42/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 800w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/47498/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 1200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/0e329/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 1600w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/93dd1/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 6240w","srcWebp":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/58556/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/61e93/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/1f5c5/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 400w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/58556/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 800w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/99238/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 1200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/7c22d/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 1600w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/7e4f0/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 6240w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12570-markdown","title":"What are weed topicals and how do they work?","slug":"what-are-weed-topicals-and-how-do-they-work","content":"**I’ve got a pretty rigorous workout schedule causing me a fair amount of muscle pain when I’m done. Would weed topicals be good for this, and how do they work?**\n\nMarcy F.\n\n------------\n![What are weed topicals and do they work?](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_16_05_PM_1c6a1f2681.png)\n\nCannabis-infused topicals would be indeed worth considering for your and other types of pain. They come in a [wide variety of forms](https://hellomd.com/articles/using-cannabis-infused-topicals-for-localized-relief), such oils, creams, lotions, balms, mud masks, and more. They are all infused with potent cannabinoids, particularly tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), and sometimes terpenes as well. \n\nWhen cannabis is ingested or inhaled, you can feel the effects quickly throughout your system or in a manner of hours, depending on the method of consumption (for example, smoking vs. edibles). But with weed topicals, the effects are usually just felt locally, on the area where they are applied (in your case, certain sore muscles).\n\n[Cannabis topicals work](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-topicals-provide-relief-for-sore-muscles-and-pain) by being absorbed through the skin and binding to our CB2 receptors, which are found throughout the body as part of the [endocannabinoid system (ECS)](https://www.healthline.com/health/endocannabinoid-system). The endocannabinoids (molecules produced by the body) bind to the receptors to achieve effects such as relieving pain, reducing inflammation, boosting the immune system, and much more.\n\nCannabinoids from cannabis act in much the same way. THC will bind with the ECS receptors in a similar way to the endocannabinoids, to provide pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effects. CBD also reacts with the ECS without THC’s psychoactive effects. While it doesn’t bind to the same receptors as THC, it may work by preventing endocannabinoids from being broken down, so they have more of an effect on your body.\n\nMany people turn to topicals for ordinary aches and pains, such as sore, tense or injured muscles. The cannabinoids seep into the skin, and help to ease tension while providing localized pain relief. Marijuana’s anti-inflammatory effects also help reduce pain and inflammation at the site of any sprained, pulled or injured muscle. Topicals are also sometimes applied to arthritic joints to provide pain relief\n\nArnisB\n\n----------------\n\nAnother thing that needs to be pointed out is that THC is particularly potent when it comes to fighting pain, but some people might avoid it because they don’t want to get high, because it might interfere with their work or ability to function in normal activities. But [THC used in topicals]( https://hellomd.com/articles/thc-in-cannabis-topicals-why-it-matters) can give you the best of both worlds. It goes to the source of pain quickly, in a targeted manner, and doesn’t make you high. Because it skips the bloodstream, cannabis topicals are undetectable in drug tests and don’t upset your ability to function. \n\nChronic pain, menstrual cramps, migraine headaches, arthritis, and skin conditions are some of the things that it may be able to help you with.\n\nVirginiaValen\n\n---------------\n\nSometimes [transdermal patches](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-transdermal-patches-medicate-through-your-skin) are discussed as similar way to treat pain. But they do work differently than topicals. The patches with cannabinoids and other ingredients are applied to the skin to provide localized relief, but enter the bloodstream after that. This might not make a difference with a [CBD patch](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/cbd-patches-for-pain#how-they-work), but could make a difference with one that has a lot of THC. However, while its psychoactive effects may be felt, they would also be released much slower method than other forms of cannabis consumption, so wouldn’t usually be as potent.\n\nJohnNth\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.6129032258064515,"src":"/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/14b42/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg","srcSet":"/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/f836f/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg 200w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/2244e/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg 400w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/14b42/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg 800w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/47498/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg 1200w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/0e329/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg 1600w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/08550/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.jpg 3832w","srcWebp":"/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/58556/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/61e93/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp 200w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/1f5c5/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp 400w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/58556/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp 800w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/99238/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp 1200w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/7c22d/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp 1600w,\n/static/0942e5605f71ff9218ea56be2914c763/0bad5/19937bbfaf244ebe8537f38abdc97c07.webp 3832w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12540-markdown","title":"what is best as a sleep aid?","slug":"what-is-best-as-a-sleep-aid","content":"**I’ve always had trouble sleeping. But now it’s got worse and insomnia at night and walking dead during the day is my normal. Do you have cannabis recommendations that work well as a sleep aid?**\n\nMatthew J.\n\n------------------------\nYes, lack of sleep is no laughing matter. You endure long, frustrating nights, often with your darkest thoughts, and then even longer days where you lack energy and have trouble focusing.\n\n![shutterstock_366276713-min.jpg](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/shutterstock_366276713_min_ed5d62e30a.jpg)\n\nEverybody has trouble sleeping now and then, but if it is a chronic condition it could be a sleep disorder such as [insomnia](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/12119-insomnia), where it is hard to nod off, to stay asleep if you manage it, and to get enough shut-eye to keep you healthy.\n\nSleeplessness can lead to health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and weight gain. You may feel fatigued and irritable during the day. You are not alone with your problem sleeping. Sleep disorders affect up to 70 million Americans every year. Insomnia symptoms are found in about 33% to 50% of the adult population, while chronic insomnia disorder is estimated to be about 10% to 15%.\n\nTraditional treatments for insomnia could be medications, such as various kinds of sleeping pills, and therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. But more and more people are looking to cannabis as an alternative to help them sleep, often to avoid the heavy side effects experienced with some traditional medications.\n\n[Some studies show](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis) that many people report falling asleep easier and more quickly after consuming marijuana. As well, cannabis can sometimes decrease episodes of sleep apnea, helping patients sleep more consistently throughout the night.\n\nBeing sleepless in Seattle — and everywhere else — has become such a common problem that more and more cannabis products specifically designed to help get much needed rest are hitting the market. For example, in the HelloMD article archive we have an [interview with Pianta Tinta](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-as-a-sleep-aid-for-insomnia-an-interview-with-pianta-tinta), whose company [Pianta Tinta Collective](https://www.piantacbd.com/) develops high CBD tinctures, oils and rubs that help with insomnia, as well as other conditions, such as chronic pain.\n\nSaid Tinta: “We recently produced a high THC tincture [[Romulan Super High THC Tincture](https://www.piantacbd.com/new-products?category=High+THC)] that we feel is particularly good at relieving insomnia. As we all know, insomnia can be difficult to overcome. Not everyone has insomnia for the same reasons. For instance, one person may not be sleeping because they have pain related to inflammation. If you bring the inflammation down with a high CBD product, they may be able to get a good night’s sleep every night. In other instances, a high THC tincture will help relax a person who struggles to get to sleep and also help them to stay asleep longer.”\n\nSleeplessness can be due to a variety of causes. So cannabis offers a number of [THC- and CBD-leaning solutions](https://hellomd.com/articles/the-10-best-marijuana-strains-for-insomnia) that can address different reasons for the problem.\n\nThree strains of cannabis that have a good track record of helping people to sleep better include:\n\n- Harlequin: This is a hybrid cannabis strain that is 75% sativa-dominant, and strong in CBD, with a CBD-to-THC ratio of 5:2. [Harlequin](https://hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) helps people to relax, and fall and stay asleep. Because it has minimal psychoactivity, it's good for people who suffer from anxiety-related insomnia.\n- Girl Scout Cookies: This is an indica strain with 20% THC and 2% CBD. It's known for its sedating, full-body relaxation effects, so it may be good for those suffering from insomnia. [Girl Scout Cookies](https://hellomd.com/strains/gsc) is a very potent strain, so go slow is good advice, since it can produce strong psychoactive effects.\n- White Widow: This is a balanced hybrid cannabis strain that is known to be more cerebral and relaxing while providing a well-balanced high. With about 20% THC and 2% CBD, [White Widow](https://hellomd.com/strains/white-widow) is often useful for insomnia associated with pain and depression).\n\nJack HMD\n\n\n---------------\nThe greatest marijuana strain to help you [sleep better](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis) depends a lot on what's causing your sleeplessness. Insomnia can be caused by a wide range of psychiatric or medical disorders, poor sleeping habits, or other biological factors. Acid reflux, hypertension, chronic pain, melancholy, stress, anxiety, or a recent traumatic event like the death of a loved one can all contribute to insomnia.\n\nInsomnia can also result from late-night activities that induce adrenaline spikes, such as working out after work. In addition, late-afternoon or evening caffeine consumption, as well as working, watching TV, or eating, can all contribute to insomnia.\n\nIf you can alleviate your insomnia by just changing your sleep routine, go ahead and make the changes. Marijuana, on the other hand, can aid if you're having trouble sleeping due to other concerns including pain, melancholy, stress, or anxiety. When patients were administered THC, they took significantly less time to fall asleep, according to a 1973 research published in Human Pharmacology. Meanwhile, a 1981 study found that giving patients with insomnia a 160 mg dose of CBD enhanced the length of time they could sleep compared to giving them a placebo.\n\nHere are four marijuana strains that are better at relieving insomnia caused by chronic pain, while others are better at relieving anxiety.\n\nHere are the strains I recommend:\n\n1. Harlequin\n[Harlequin](https://hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) is a hybrid cannabis strain that is 75 percent sativa-dominant. Harlequin is strong in CBD, with a CBD-to-THC ratio of 5:2. Pain, stress, anxiety, and sadness are all known to be relieved by this strain. Harlequin is a relaxing strain that helps people fall and stay asleep, despite its sativa dominance. Because it has little to no psychoactivity, it's very beneficial for persons who suffer from anxiety-related insomnia.\n\n2. Cookie Jar\nCookie Jar is a cross between White Fire Alien OG and Platinum Girl Scout Cookies. This marijuana strain can aid with anxiety and headaches, but it's most recognized for its overall relaxing effects. As a result, Cookie Jar is an excellent choice!\n\n3. Girl Scout Cookies\nGirl Scout Cookies is an indica strain that has 20% THC and 2% CBD. However, I would hypothesize that CBD would reduce the body's self-attack on the thyroid/ reduce circulating thyroid antibodies, but would have less, if any, of a direct effect on the manufacturing and secretion of thyroid hormone. CBD has been shown to have profound immunomodulatory properties. However, CBD does not meaningfully interact with the CB1 receptor, and thus, would not directly affect thryroid releasing hormone neurons in the method described in the above 2009 study. \n\n\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nAs far as dosage goes: In general, I would recommend between 10 and 20 milligrams of CBD twice per day. \nFor Hashimoto's (and most chronic conditions without acute symptoms) I generally recommend an oil or edible over inhalation methods.\n\nhttps://www.hellolift.com/products/5b57b4c702f1740001523089/cured-full-spectrum-raw-oil\ncontains about 0.83mg of CBD/drop: take 12 drops (10mg) to 23 drops (20mg) twice/day.\n\nhttps://www.hellolift.com/products/5b57a71f02f1740001522f78/cbd-hemp-oil-capsules\n1 pill (15mg) twice per day.\n\nPlease consult with your physician before starting any cannabis regimen. Deficiency or malfunction of the ECS has become a focus for researchers seeking treatment options for several maladies—especially those that have few, if any, effective pharmocotherapeutic interventions, such as celiac disease, MS, fibromyalgia and IBD (Crohn's disease and and ulcerative colitis). In fact, the scientific community has recently termed the ECS malfunction \"Clinical Endocannabanoid Decifiency,\" or CECD. CBD works by balancing and supporting the ECS through its subtle effects on cannaboinoid receptor-1 (CB1) and cannaboinoid receptor-2 (CB2) receptors, as well as other receptors that modulate serotonin, GABA, dopamine, and many more.\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nIn IBD and GERD, inflammation is central to both the etiology and symptomology of the respective disease. CBD is well known as an effective immunomodulator and anti-inflammatory, and those properties still do apply to GI inflammation. However, unique to the GI tract, are specialized nerve cells called enteric glial cells— \"the glue of the nteric nervous system (ENS)\"—which, when overactive, also contribute to acute and chronic GI inflammation. Recent pre-clinical research suggests that CBD may lower GI inflammation by controlling reactive gliosis in the ENS. Or, in other words, CBD restores homeostasis in the gut by reducing hyperactivity in enteric glial cells.\nThe enteric ENS is an extensive network of neurons supported by enteric glial cells (the above mentioned \"glue\" on the ENS). Two neural plexuses comprise the ENS: the myenteric plexus, involved in motility/peristalsis; and the submucosal plexus, involved in intestinal and gastric secretions. CBD works to restores homeostasis in the ENS via modulation of enteric glial cells (as mentioned above), the myenteric plexus, and the submucosal plexus.\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\n\nFurthermore, several studies show that among patients who seek medical attention for IBS or IBD, around 70% of IBS patients, and 30% of IBD patients, have psychiatric comorbidity—depression and generalized anxiety disorder being most common. CBD increases serotonin signaling at the 5-HT1A receptor—the same neurotransmitter and receptor that SSRIs like Prozac influence—which is mostly why CBD has antidepressant and anxiolytic properties. In fact, SSRIs and tricyclic antidepressants (which also increase serotonin signalling), have been shown to alleviate anxiety and depression symptoms, as well as alleviate some of the abdominal pain and bowel symptoms involved in IBS, IBD and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is why SSRIs and TCAs are commonly prescribed for IBS and IBD. \n\nWhen choosing products, make sure that the product label specifies the amount of CBD and/or THC per drop or dropper-full (such as the product Kevin recommended). Many products simply state the total amount of CBD and/or THC, which leads to unnecessary confusion.\n\nI hope this helps!\n\ndrkim","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12348-markdown","title":"What is most effective product for sedation?","slug":"what-is-most-effective-product-for-sedation","content":"\"I am a 66 year old male, 170 lbs. You should try to aim for an indica strain which has a more of a sedating and relaxing effect. Sativa is more energizing and better used in the day time. Follow sleep hygiene rules and you don't want to develop a sleep dependency issue with any sleep agents, and lastlly I would advise that you consider a referral for a sleep study from your primary care provider. \n\nAmyT","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12346-markdown","title":"GOOD Afternoon, What is the email address to contact you for inquiries please?
