That said, you should always error on the side of caution and start very slowly. The nice thing about vaping or smoking in general is that the full effects are felt within seconds to minutes, so I would suggest take one inhale and see how you feel, then another and so on. I am highly THC sensitive so one inhale for me may be enough but for my partner it may take 5-10 inhales to be sufficient. Unfortunately, there is no recipe for this that is one size fits all.\n\nThe other thing to be aware of is the % of THC in your vape pen cartridge. Is it 5%, 20%, 90%? The THC levels vary wildly and I just gave examples, this too influences your tolerance with your pen. \n\nI would guess by your question that you are perhaps new to cannabis. Always error on the side of caution, always! Also, know that a high CBD tincture can help subdue an intense high if you should happen to get into a situation where you feel uncomfortable. Please know that if you feel uncomfortable, it will wear off, just drink a glass of water and go to bed!\n\nI am not a doctor and this answer represents my opinion only. I hope this helps.\n\npamelahadfield\n_____________________\nThe best way to figure out your ideal dosage when vaping will ultimately come down to a trial-and-error process. We suggest starting with very low THC strains (like our Harlequin) and then slowly moving up to strains with more THC. However, the best option would be to use a tincture with a CBD:THC ratio of >20:1. At the hospital, they gave me a dose of Ativan - worked like a charm - I nearly immediately calmed down, closed my eyes and started feeling better. Total time of ordeal about 120 min. Anyone else ever experienced this? Can't be that rare can it?\"\n_____________________\nYou are not alone my friend. Cannabis (especially concentrated forms) can cause severe anxiety and nausea in some individuals. While it may be very distressing and scary, the adverse effects of cannabis are not dangerous. You may feel as though you are going to die, but rest assured that NO ONE has ever overdosed from cannabis. Do you know the contents of the hashish? It may have been mixed with other substances. You may also have experienced cannabis hyperemesis syndrome, which can be relieved with a hot shower or bath. Also CBD has been shown to be a helpful antidote to THC over-intoxication. Thanks\n\"\n_____________________\nCBD or cannabidiol works differently than THC. CBD increases our own natural cannabinoid levels (endocannabinoids), without actually binding to the CB1 or CB2 receptors. In conjunction with the other components in a cannabis whole plant extract, It seems to help stabilize many of our homeostatic functions. Basically CBD, THC and other compounds in cannabis work with our endocannabinoid system to help bring it back to equilibrium. Im sorry that I cannot comment directly on specific products. But I would start with a small dose, observe for results, and increase the dose until the desired results are achieved. There is no danger in taking very high doses of cannabis products. However, as with other plant derived extracts and concentrated products, quality and purity can vary significantly. Take caution and proceed with care.\n\nandrewvanmd","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11445-markdown","title":"How do I know how to dose cannabis correctly? The suggestion is to wait 45 minutes - 1 hour to see if the desired effect is reached. If not, add on another 5 mg until desired effect is reached.\r\n\r\nWith tinctures, I've found MoxieMeds 1:1 (CBD:THC) is amazing for pain and the 4:1 (CBD:THC) is a great health boost + helps with anxiety.\n\nthehighnote\n_____________________\nRatios, percentages, and amounts all refer to different things. Ratios refer to the ratio of various compounds in a formula. For example, a 1:1 CBD to THC product will be even in how much CBD or THC is in a product. A 20:1 CBD to THC product will be high in CBD, low in THC (CBD and THC do different things, see other questions on this page for details). Percentages can refer to what percent of a formula is medicated. Or it can also refer to ratio - 50% CBD, 50% CBD would be a formula that is split with a 1:1 ratio, for example. \n\nThe primary thing you want to look for in dosing is the amount in MG. Products should tell you how many MG of CBD or THC is in a certain amount of the product. It may tell you there are 10MG of THC in the whole product, so then you know that one-tenth of the product is 1MG. In order to start your cannabis experiments it is important to \"start low, go slow\". Start with 1-2 MG, wait an hour, and see how you feel. Noting down how many MG of CDB or THC you consumed and how you felt will help you adjust and figure out what works best for you for various conditions. \n\nI also explain this in more detail in the video answer on this page! The balance and amount of tincture and edible to take for sleeping varies tremendously between individuals, as well as food intake prior to sleeping. As we tell all of our patients, you need to go low (dose) and slow (increase) to see how the products you obtain react with your body. It seems that you need to increase the amount of the edible since from what you said you woke up at 1 AM. \n\nPerhaps try doing that and see if you are able to stay asleep. The treatment plan recommended was CBD:THC ratio of 20:1. How often should I take it? That wasn't stated. Thanks.\"\n_____________________\nMS is a very complicated disease and it requires a multilevel approach. Most of the information comes from antidotal results but there have been a few studies done often with conflicting outcome because western medicine wants to look at one factor excluding all of their factors but our bodies don't work that way.\nI highly encourage you to have the 23andMe.com genetic test done and you will find your chromosomes in the upper right under your name. You might choose to use a fictitious name and date of birth to register the Kit just for privacy sake. Once you have done the test and received your results please obtain a methylation analysis, I like the one done by geneticgenie.org because it is easy-to-read. Consider reading Dr. Amy Yasko's book, 'Feel Good, Nutrigenomics, your roadmap to health', because she will start to teach you about the importance of eliminating neurotoxins from your environment, especially your diet. Be certain you have checked your vitamin D level because most MS patients are horribly low in vitamin D3 increasing the risk of neurological damage. Do not take extra calcium but do eat greens in your diet. Too much calcium, such as supplements will flood the nerve with calcium destroying the nerve function.\nAs far as cannabis is concerned, very high CBD/low THC in a sublingual tincture, without alcohol and preferably from organic plants will start to reduce the inflammatory disease in the body. CBD should be started low dose and spread out through the day until you know your blood pressure is stable and that should take approximately 1-5 days depending on how cannabis friendly your body happens to be. I am encourage patients to get the highest CBD, like a 28:1 tincture. Start with five drops, four times a day but as soon as your blood pressure is stable go to 10 drops twice a day. You will not feel the full results of CBD's for approximately 3 weeks because they don't make you high. At three weeks you should be feeling good and tolerating stress much better and some of your nerve function may have started to return. You can continue to go up on your dose of CBD tincture, you may want to go to 10 drops three times a day or 15 drops twice a day. If you are getting good response hold the dosage at this level until it seems that it has plateaued and then consider going a little higher. CBD stops inflammation but many foods increase inflammation. Try to eliminate most Omega six and Omega nine foods in your diet because they cause inflammation. You can take Omega three, and your genetic chart with methylation analysis will give us an excellent idea of what nutrients need to be added to your plan to take the stress off your body and start healing. In the meantime, eliminate all dairy from animals and all commercial foods. If you have MTHFR 1298, you are predisposed to neurological disease. Just because you have a snp (Single nucleotide polymorphism) in your genetics, it does not mean you have to manifest disease but you must know the roadblock and design a detour around the roadblock so you can get your body back again or at least reduce any further damage. Good luck, you can reverse this disease with enough knowledge and you have a direct feedback on how it's working but I can't stress enough how important it is that you have your vitamin D level checked. You need both 25-OHD, the inactive form and you need the 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D measured also because this is the active form and the form excreted by your kidneys. We must know that when you're taking vitamin D you're your kidneys. Zinc is another important nutrient but I usually recommend that you buy organic quinoa that you can sprout and eat raw added in small amounts to your food.\nI know I answered a lot more than your question, I hope you don't mind but it is important for you to understand this is a multilevel disease that does not have a simple answer because there is no one pill or exact right dose that will work to resolve this problem.\n\ndrolson\n_____________________\nI'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis, but glad that you've reached out to find out about the right CBD dosage for your condition. Of course, everyone is different so the right dosage of CBD -- and THC if you want it -- might take a little bit of experimentation to find. As Dr. Olson said, a tincture will probably be your best bet. Find the highest ratio of CBD:THC, you can and start off with 3-4 drops three times a day. See how that goes for a a while, then see if you want to up your CBD dosage. \n\nBelow is an article we wrote about studies that show cannabis can help with MS. In the article there are links to several studies that detail cannabis protocols for MS, including CBD dosage. In one study from 2005, they started out giving participants 2.5 mg of THC and 1.25 mg of CBD twice a day. They did take some time to adjust for each patient's weight and biochemistry, so some had their THC and CBD dosage upped, but to no more than 25 mg of THC per day. I'm not a doctor, but I hope the information I provided gives you a good place to start. Good luck!\n\ngabriella\n_____________________\nMultiple Sclerosis is an incredibly challenging disease to treat as you well know. The relatively good news is that recent research has shown cannabis to be effective in treating MS. In 2003 there was the largest study done to date on the affect of marijuana which showed improvement with  \"pain, spasms, spasticity and sleep quality in participants who used whole-plant cannabis-based medicine (CBM) extracts or tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)\". It has also been shown to help with neuropathic pain. You can reference this study in the article I have posted below.\n\nIn terms of CBD dosage specifically, it is hard to tell anyone how much or what to take with cannabis as we all react differently. In terms of my own pain, which was caused by migraines, I found a high ratio CBD tincture used daily in combination with a high ration vape pen, to do the trick. A high ratio tincture might be 20:1 (CBD:THC) or 18:1 or even 8:1. A high ratio vape pen might be the strain ACDC or Electra Tsu (for instance) and be 3:1. In either of these cases, it would not be psychoactive due to the high ratio of non psychoactive CBD.\n\nIn my own experience, and what I have seen anecdotally with others, it is important to use CBD consistently and daily, to see results with ongoing pain. In terms of your own CBD dosage, go low and slow and see what your tolerance is. Try the suggested dosage on the label and go from there. I hope this helps, this expresses my opinion only and I am not a doctor.\n\npamelahadfield","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11330-markdown","title":"Why does THC or CBD cause me to lose my desire for alcohol?","slug":"why-does-thc-or-cbd-cause-me-to-lose-my-desire-for-alcohol","content":"\"I had been consuming alcohol on a daily basis until I started to micro dose with CBD tincture. Thank you \"\n_____________________\nWith all respect to Dr. Olson,  I've seen this following syndrome in my practice called Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome.  Here is a helpful article you can look at and also bring to your own MD.  The authors of this very well made article suggest against abrupt discontinuation of SSRI, SNRI's and other anti-depressants.  I want to stress that this has just been in my practice and Dr.Olson also probably has just as much if not more experience than I in this matter.  I offer this article humbly:\nhttp://www.aafp.org/afp/2006/0801/p449.html\n\ndrpark\n_____________________\nYou might be having SSRI (Celexa) withdraw symptoms. I could happen if you were on a high dose or even a mild dose. If a mild dose you might want to try waiting it out a day or two more and see how you do. If you were on a higher does or can not tolerate the withdraw symptoms, you might want to restart your Celexa. Restart at half the dose you were on. After a few days, or when you feel better, you might want to try again to taper off the Celexa. this time try cutting back on the dose by 50% each week (4-6 days). If you continue to feel ok, keep cutting back on the dose until you are off. If the withdrawal symptoms develop again, go back up on the dose you were on that didn't give you withdrawal symptoms and try again this time tapering the dose ever 2 weeks. The same issue can happen with the Klonopin. If so, try the same slow taper as mentioned above.\n\ndrpinto\n_____________________\nI have successfully removed many patients from SSRIs but the benzodiazepines are a whole other story. I usually encourage patients to be on high-dose CBD (~28:1) twice a day (10-15 drops twice daily) for one month before you start to withdraw from your either medications. SSRIs you can typically abruptly discontinue but save all your leftover pills because in about 4 to 5 days your body will want more SSRI medication, so give it a pill, if you need another pill the next day you can do that also but then try to stay off the medication for approximately a week, your body will scream for more and that's when you give it one or two pills but you will notice this is a sub therapeutic dose so your body will be tapering off at this point and it typically only takes a few weeks for you to be off the SSRI completely.\nBenzodiazepines should never abruptly be discontinued because they cause horrendous side effects.\nBenzodiazepine should be reduced by one dose per month. Please don't try to discontinue the benzodiazepines any quicker than that or you could cause more depression. You will eventually be off the benzodiazepines. You must be very careful with your THC intake because if you go high on THC you will increase your anxiety. Until you are well stabilized off the benzodiazepines you must concentrate mostly on high CBD Cannabis to keep your body calm but you don't get the full effect of CBD cannabis for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Since you are prone to anxiety and depression, You legally can carry a high CBD/ low THC spray with you but when you are driving you must carry it in the back of the car like an open container of alcohol. If you feel anxious, one spray of the high CBD cannabis (8:1 to 18:1) should have a nice calming effect.\nMost people are vitamin D deficient and many doctors only measure the inactive form, 25-OHD, but they should also measure the active form that is excreted from the kidneys, 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D, since the inactive form maybe low but the active form maybe high and you don't want to overstress your kidneys. \nVitamin D is necessary for the human body to function normally because in the human body it is a hormone not a vitamin and hormones are necessary to create new healthy cells.\nIf the vitamin D blood level is low in your body, it negatively affects many systems, such as your muscles and blood pressure. With low levels of Vitamin D you may experience thyroid disease, chronic pain with muscle & joint aching, kidney stones & even calcified heart valves, high blood pressure, depression, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, an increased risk of migraine headaches and even a significantly increased risk of breast cancer with a greater risk for metastatic disease and death. \nThe laboratory ‘normal’ for Vitamin D3 is 30-100 (30ng/mL is rickets level) but for optimum health the blood level must be 55-100. Do you want to be just ‘normal’ or would you like to go for optimum?\nThe kidney clearance function for Vitamin D must be monitored so the larger amounts of Vitamin D are not overwhelming the ability to clear any excess Vitamin D from the system and this is the level of the active form of Vitamin D. \nFor a healthy patient with normal kidney function and vitamin D deficiency, I recommend a large dose (called a bolus) of vitamin D3, approximately 40,000 international units to be given with food one time per week  plus 5000 International units of vitamin D3 per day, repeating the sequence for up to four weeks and then do a repeat blood level. For accuracy do not take your vitamin D right before the blood test and do not do the bolus the day before or the day of the blood test. You should notice a significant sense of well-being once your blood level of vitamin D3 is above 55 ng/mL but there is no benefit in going above 100 ng/mL.\nIn order to sleep as you're going off your other medications, please be aware that you may need to keep your CBD: THC ratio in a 2:1 balance in order to sleep without anxiety, so if you have had more THC in the evening you may need to take a higher dose of CBD to balance the ratio of CBD to THC.\nI know this all sounds technical and it sort of is but you can do this because I've had great success with other patients and if you still have questions you can always send your questions and we will give you an answer.\nIf you do have further questions, please don't send those questions as a response to this posting since the posting will only allow us to answer one time, then you must submit a new question.\nGood luck, this may go a little slow but it is well worth the journey to get you away from dangerous, addictive Western pharmaceutical drugs.\n\ndrolson","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":132,"numPages":15,"currentPage":12,"id":5206,"name":"Dosage","slug":"dosage","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
