Once the card is issued, your mother can register with the state and list you as a caregiver so that you both can work with the pharmacist moving forward. CBD is remarkably benign in the human body and there are essentially no reports of toxicity, but at the same time there is no body of clinical studies defining a dosage range for any condition. Most reports of using CBD for various conditions are basically anecdotal, and the kind of dose-response information you are seeking is still folk medicine, not based on medical science. It is also not clear to me what other factors might be affecting you mother's ambulation, so the best I can suggest is that increasing the CBD dose is unlikely to cause any adverse effects and if the lack of walking is from CBD related sedation her response will likely be to walk less. If it helps, then I would not be concerned about a modest increase in dose unless other symptoms appear. \n\ndrelkind","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9085-markdown","title":"Schizoaffective disorder: What is the best form of CBD? and dosage?","slug":"schizoaffective-disorder-what-is-the-best-form-of-cbd-and-dosage","content":"\"Dosage?\"\n_____________________\nSchizoaffective disorder= higher level of psychosis (delusion, paranoia, hallucinations) to mood disorder (usually bipolar type, what was called manic-depressive). How could I incorpoate cannabis with assisting me to finally get off these medications, as I know even if I lowered my dose just slightly, the side effects become absolutely horendous. \n\nThank you in advance for any help, I greatly appreciate it.\"\n_____________________\nIf you haven't already done so, inform your mental health provider or primary care MD that you are interested in a slow taper for both your SSRI and the benzodiazepine. Everything in the literature focuses on performing this taper SLOWLY & under supervision to avoid what has been called \"discontinuation syndrome\". While you are performing this slow taper, slowly introduce cannabis products that have the optimum CBD/THC ratio for daytime use (you might need a separate product with more THC and CBN to help with sleep). I might even suggest tapering off the SSRI first THEN moving on to tapering benzodiazepines; trying to taper down on both seems like it's too much (but this is just my humble opinion). Also make sure you are employing other treatment modalities (the literature points to doing regular cognitive behavioral therapy/ CBT). Happily, cannabis does provide relief for many people with this issue. Please check out these search results on the topic which should provide plenty of information for you:\n\nashleigh\n_____________________\nApplying cannabis to the skin will not provide significant absorption beyond a very local area so I would definitely try a tincture or similar preparation. When tinctures or lozenges are held in the mouth effects may be noticeable within 10 minutes; when cannabis is swallowed it may take up to an hour for effects. Starting with a CBD:THC ratio of 20:1 and varying the amount taken and the cannabinoid ratio (moving toward 1:1) may yield a preparation helpful in reducing the discomfort. Most patients find this kind of cautious experimentation useful for finding the best relief of their symptoms. \n\ndrelkind\n_____________________\nI agree with Dr. Elkind that a tincture containing both CBD and THC (for the entourage effect) would be a good choice. I also agree that for some patients, a traditional cream/emollient/oil may only have limited penetration into the skin. However, I might suggest another alternative. Companies like OMremedies.com & MakingYouBetterBrand.com have cannabis infused epsom salts (epsom salts being composed of magnesium salt which is important for nerve conduction). If you put a very small/fractional dose in warm (not steaming hot) water and see if the extremities can tolerate a dunk/bath for a short duration, this may be useful. In my experience a good deal of the limited medical literature concerning cannabinoids and neuropathic pain seem to use THC in the experiments (however an admixture of THC and CBD should also do well). Microdosing is supposed to give you positive effects without the psychoactive effects you could feel at higher doses. In this sense, I don't know if microdosing w/ CBD applies at all. \n\nFor your tincture...there is no set dose per person. After a quick search of your product online, it looks like 1 drop = 1mg CBD. Keep in mind that you might not feel anything right away. I've interviewed many patients & experts on CBD dosing, and those who see the best results take their CBD tincture every day--think of it as a vitamin. These folks have all said that it takes about 1 month to build up in your system. I'm not a doctor, but if I was trying to figure out a dosing routine for myself, I'd do at least 5mg CBD 2 to 3 times a day for at least 3 days and then reassess. In general, I share the concept of \"minimum effective dose/ concentration\" with cannabis. The idea is to slowly add more/ re-dose until the moment the nausea disappears. For tinctures, a good place to start is the product label; most tinctures I've seen give general dosing guidelines based on weight etc (i.e. half dropper vs full dropper). Another wrinkle I add for nausea patients using tincture is to try dilution in hot non-caffeinated tea.
