If you are ingesting an edible on an empty stomach it's going to be digested much faster than if you have just eaten a full meal. Generally speaking, an edible will start to be felt within anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes. If you are considering eating more and raising your dose, it's good practice to wait two hours for the full effects of your initial dose to be felt. Otherwise, you may overconsume, and possibly have an overwhelming experience. The standard advice in the industry is to start low (5MG of THC for beginner's) and go slow (raising your dose every two hours in small increments until you have your desired experience). I tried 5mg hard candy edibles, and indica tincure and vaping indica. Vaping the indica was the worst! really wired me. When I tried vaping a sativa/indica blend it calmed me to get to sleep...but neither the edible nor the tincture worked to keep me asleep! In my experience w/ the patients I see through HelloMD, we've had alot of success in helping people sleep by adding small amounts of CBN along w/ THC; try this combo (in small amounts/ dosages) first with edibles as this should provide for longer duration sleep compared to using a vape-pen or tincture. What makes you feel you've developed a tolerance? I wouldn't worry about this too much unless you actually notice having to purchase more cannabis products than in the past during a certain time duration to achieve the same results. If this is the case, taking a short breather from cannabis might be just what you need. Don't forget to exercise daily as this helps sleep and also try mindfulness & meditation right before bedtime as this has helped many of my patients. The balance and amount of tincture and edible to take for sleeping varies tremendously between individuals, as well as food intake prior to sleeping. As we tell all of our patients, you need to go low (dose) and slow (increase) to see how the products you obtain react with your body. It seems that you need to increase the amount of the edible since from what you said you woke up at 1 AM. \n\nPerhaps try doing that and see if you are able to stay asleep. Another option is to go to your local dispensary to see what products they have for insomnia if increasing your dose does not work. There are new products coming on the market every day and various dispensaries carry different products. . With oral ingestion the liver will process many of the compounds and creates a more psychoactive compound in 11-hydroxy-THC. On a full stomach, try a small dose, wait several hours and if needed increase the dose. Many people overindulge in edibles, experience severe psychoactive effects, get scared and have a bad time. Some even call 911 or go to the Emergency Room. Take caution with edibles and don't overdo it! CBD can act as somewhat of an \"overdose\" rememdy in that it will decrease the effects of THC and stretch them out over time. I'll leave Dixie to comment of their specific products.\n\nOver the years there have been multiple studies as to cannabis and the healing effect that it can have on the liver. One of the latest showed that smoking cannabis did not accelerate the progression of liver disease in patients with HIV-Hepatitis C. (http://cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/57/5/663.long)\n \nThe metabolism of THC to 11-OH THC takes place in the live as well. When a edible is used the liver metabolizes the THC. When cannabis is used under the tongue topically or administered rectally, the cannabis avoids this \"first pass\" metabolism and goes directly to the various organs. So these ways of using cannabis MAY be less taxing on the liver, but there is are no studies that can confirm this. There have actually been some studies that show that CBD2 can have some healing effect on damaged liver that has been caused by cirrhosis.\n\nPerry Solomon, MD\n_____________________\nVaporizers are the healthiest way to consume due to the fact that they are not processed through the liver. They eliminate tar, carbon monoxide, soot, and harmful carcinogens associated with smoking. I've moved back to Ohio temporarily to get surgery and heal from automobile accident I was in back in February. Thankfully they've just passed medical marijuana here I believe just last month, however, it will take a month or so for it to go into effect. I was purchasing and taking the Kushy Punch chews which contained 60mg of CBD. I have to say - it showed incredible results for my anxiety and mild-depression without the psychoactive effects - EXACTLY what I need/wanted. It would help even greater now given the medical condition from the car accident I am in. \n\nProblem being is I'm pretty sure this was CBD from Cannabis, not Hemp. As hemp has extreme health benefits, from everything that I've read and the research I've done, it's significantly different than the cannabis strains. You really have to be careful when ordering CBD online because its easy to purchase something that is false and may or may not even be CBD. \n\nSince CBD is legal in all 50 states and I'm unfortunately not in SoCal at the moment, I'm looking to see if anyone can recommend a HIGH CBD vape or edible that may be the equivalent to what I was taking in LA that you can order online, has the same benefits (or greater) and is WORTH the purchase. I realize there are a lot of scam companies and I've come here to seek any fellow humans who also take CBD and who may have recommendations online. \n\nlove and light~\n\n\"\n_____________________\nGreat question and depending on who you ask and who you are as a person, the answer could vary wildly. Personally, I have not found that CBD products from hemp have nearly the benefit or effect as CBD from cannabis. I am always on the lookout for high CBD/low THC products as I feel the same effects that you mentioned and I think the combination of cannabinoids, which create the 'entourage effect', are what is responsible for a better outcome.\n\nIt is also true you need to be careful as to what you purchase not just because the quantity of high grade CBD can vary wildly but also because hemp is often unregulated, especially if your hemp product comes from China.\n\nThat said, the brand Evoxe, carries a high CBD pen that is from hemp. They also have a new CBD pen with THC which is great. You can find their business listing on our site:\n\nhttps://www.hellomd.com/biz/evoxe-laboratories\n\nYou may also try Auntie Dolores as I believe they just released a new high CBD brownie which is derived from hemp. With edibles it's challenging to make products strain-specific because of the difficulty of scaling for mass production. The jury is also out on how much the strain really impacts the edibles experience. Here is an excellent article from Leafly about the impact of using specific strains on cannabis edibles. After some experimentation they concluded that people had trouble telling the difference between a pure sativa and pure indica edible experience. For a beginner, always do a low dose and wait 45 minutes if they dont feel anything. A 10mg dose is plenty for me, but my brothers girlfriend started with a 5mg dose and was right where she wanted to be. Id recommend starting with 5mg. The chocolate covered blueberries are good, just remember to tell her not to eat more than needed! They are delicious but not a candy haha\n\ncannabear\n_____________________\nIf you take these before dinner, you'll find you have stronger, faster effects as your stomach will be empty. If you take them after dinner, they will digest with your food and it will take longer (thirty minutes to ninety minutes) for you to experience the effects. As with all edibles, we recommend starting with a 5MG dose until you find the perfect dose for your condition. Also note that Kiva's products contain hybrid strains - so if you have sensitivity to sativa, you may find them stimulating. If you don't have sensitivity to sativa, you will find the indica experience from Kiva products is appropriately soporific. Good luck!\n\nchristiestrong\n_____________________\nThough we have no trouble falling asleep, my boyfriend and I both have trouble staying asleep -- invariably he and I will wake up in the wee morning hours (somewhere between 3:30 and 5:30 am), our minds racing as we start filing through the hundred and one things we need to do that day, week and so on. That said, we've both used Kiva chocolate-covered blueberries (just 1 each) with great success. More recently, we've switched to the Kiva Petra mints which are only 2.5 mg per mint. I typically only take one at bed time, while my boyfriend takes 2 (for 5 mg total).
