","slug":"what-are-the-long-term-effects-of-daily-cannabis-use","content":"\"I use edibles and tinctures for insomnia I am wondering if you know of any studies or have information about the long term effects of using cannabis for sleep, on a daily basis? Lately, I've been hearing and reading that edibles, though they can enable falling asleep and staying asleep, they can also interfere with rem and other important sleep patterns. Since I got my prescription over the summer, I've been taking edibles and tinctures, almost daily, because of my insomnia, but I am slightly concerned about the fact that I often do not remember my dreams, and wonder about long the term effects of this... is it safe to take edibles daily and in the long run, do you know if it can it have an effect on the development of cognitive disorders? A doctor of mine previously told me that the regular use of certain sleeping pills can add to the development of cognitive disorders later in life, so I'm wondering if there is information out there regarding long term effects of cannabis for insomnia, and also what the consequences are for not reaching rem regularly as a result of cannabis use to treat this condition. Thank you in advance for any information you can share.\"\n_____________________\nThat's a great question. I've had similar results from treating my insomnia with cannabis. It helped me to sleep but my sense was that it was an unnatural depth of sleeping. I also noticed strange dreaming when I was altered. \nI've since shifted to Hemp oil at night. The lack of THC has seemed to have helped me not only to fall asleep easier but I wake up feeling fresher on less sleep. \nInterested to hear more answered to this question.\n\ncbdforlife","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9853-markdown","title":"Can smoking marijuana cause bloating?","slug":"can-smoking-marijuana-cause-bloating","content":"\"Hi, I've had my MM rec for almost 5 years now, and have used it off and on for pain, anxiety, stress, you name it.. but recently, I've experienced SEVERE bloating in my abdomen every time I use it (especially if I smoke it). It's like my stomach swells up like a balloon and feels like it's gonna pop. I'm feeling the pressure in my chest now too. I usually use the vape pens, and I make my own cannabis infused coconut oil, that I use to make edibles. The swelling is less with those. When, or IF, I try to smoke any flowers, I don't do a lot.. but I wonder why I'm having this reaction to it. Anyone know what could be going on? \n\n\"\n_____________________\nIt sounds as if you are having some of the cannabis smoke entering your stomach, in essence \"swallowing\" the smoke. This may result is some burping as you release it. With the other methods you spoke of, the amount of smoke that enters your stomach may be less. Other then that I cannot think of a reason why that stomach bloating would occur.\n\nPerry Solomon, MD\n_____________________\nI have similar symptoms that you described and there are possibilities -- that do not include \"swallowing smoke\", especially since you said it also happens more mildly with edibles. Consider that it might be a mild form of Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome. Its seldom documented medically unless patients present at ER with non-stop vomiting that is oddly only relieved by hot showers. Like you, the only symptoms I have are extreme bloating. If I stop smoking, within about 24-48 hours the bloating subsides and I look and feel as though I lost 30 lbs.\n\nvch881\n_____________________\nI have the same issue as vch881. I have trouble with marijuana and I am trying to reduce consumption. When I smoke daily, I end up with a bloated feeling in my stomach a sort of swolen throat feeling. It is not painful but there is a constant feeling like there's something stuck in my throat and I need to swallow. I also feel the need to drink a lot of water when I am smoking marijuana so that contributed to the bloated stomach. If I stop consuming marijuana for a day or two it all subsides and my stomach and throat feel fine again. This is just a personal anecdote from my experience with marijuana over the years. \n\nRedwhite85","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9819-markdown","title":"Do CBD products interfere with seizure medications?","slug":"do-cbd-products-interfere-with-seizure-medications","content":"\"I am presently taking Tegretol for seizure control. Will CBD edibles products interfere with Tegretol Levels ?\"\n_____________________\nYes, CBD can interfere with antiepileptic medication breakdown through the liver. CBD is an inhibitor (interferes) of metabolism through the p450 system, so it has the potential to RAISE the blood levels of medications that are broken down by that system.\n\ndrbultman","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9815-markdown","title":"What can you recommend for appetite stimulation?","slug":"what-can-you-recommend-for-appetite-stimulation","content":"\"Are there any edibles that I could use for this?\"\n_____________________\nYes, you can certainly try edibles for appetite stimulation. In general, THC is the active ingredient in cannabis that stimulates appetite. If you are new to cannabis, begin with a low dose of 2.5-5 mg of THC to see how it affects you. There are some ingredients in cannabis that SUPPRESS appetite (namely, THCV), but that is not often tested or labelled. Since every strain and product is a little different, you may want to ask your dispensary staff which products their other patients have reported work best for appetite stimulation. Also, remember that cannabis products that are consumed tend to take effect slowly, over 30-60 minutes, and last for about 6-8 hours, so consuming a product vs. inhaling it for instance will have very different effects.\n\ndrbultman\n_____________________\nOne of the effects typically associated with cannabis is appetite stimulation, and this appears to be directly related to the activity of THC. The medical literature offers many scientific discussions of this stimulation of appetite as an effect of THC. Interestingly, other cannabinoids, such as CBD, oppose some actions of THC, and the effects of preparations with different ratios of these two cannabinoids can produce somewhat different effects. Stimulating of appetite is more likely with medicinal cannabis that has lots of THC, although I always recommend using preparations also containing adequate CBD content to avoid overstimulation and anxiety. For patients with anorexia or nausea related to a severe illness or chemotherapy, mouth sprays and similar preparations may be the best tolerated method of taking medicinal cannabis.\n\ndrelkind","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9794-markdown","title":"Is there any problem taking edibles if I've already taken a Valium (5mg)?","slug":"is-there-any-problem-taking-edibles-if-ive-already-taken-a-valium-5mg","content":"\"I just picked up Sativa and Indica at my local dispensary but they were unsure of the Valium question. \"\n_____________________\nYou should consult with an MD about this. At least, not legally. If you are a resident of Texas then your only option (apart from moving to a cannabis friendly state), is to visit a state that allows recreational purchases (i.e., CO or WA) or medical purchases (by first obtaining a medical recommendation from that state - such as CA). In both scenarios you will need to physically visit the state.\n\nCoffee Addict","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9715-markdown","title":"Where can I purchase marijuana edibles in Washington?","slug":"where-can-i-purchase-marijuana-edibles-in-washington","content":"\n_____________________\nHi there-I'm going to make an assumption that you're asking about WA state.
