","slug":"what-are-the-long-term-effects-of-daily-cannabis-use","content":"\"I use edibles and tinctures for insomnia I am wondering if you know of any studies or have information about the long term effects of using cannabis for sleep, on a daily basis? Lately, I've been hearing and reading that edibles, though they can enable falling asleep and staying asleep, they can also interfere with rem and other important sleep patterns. Since I got my prescription over the summer, I've been taking edibles and tinctures, almost daily, because of my insomnia, but I am slightly concerned about the fact that I often do not remember my dreams, and wonder about long the term effects of this... is it safe to take edibles daily and in the long run, do you know if it can it have an effect on the development of cognitive disorders? A doctor of mine previously told me that the regular use of certain sleeping pills can add to the development of cognitive disorders later in life, so I'm wondering if there is information out there regarding long term effects of cannabis for insomnia, and also what the consequences are for not reaching rem regularly as a result of cannabis use to treat this condition. Thank you in advance for any information you can share.\"\n_____________________\nThat's a great question. I've had similar results from treating my insomnia with cannabis. It helped me to sleep but my sense was that it was an unnatural depth of sleeping. I also noticed strange dreaming when I was altered. \nI've since shifted to Hemp oil at night. The lack of THC has seemed to have helped me not only to fall asleep easier but I wake up feeling fresher on less sleep. \nInterested to hear more answered to this question.\n\ncbdforlife","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9854-markdown","title":"What is the best tincture for insomnia?","slug":"what-is-the-best-tincture-for-insomnia","content":"\n_____________________\nCBD, though deeply relaxing, has been known to keep some users awake even in the face of insomnia. For your case, the 25:1 ratio is, most likely, not enough THC to induce sleep. \n\nYou may find more success with a balanced ratio as well as trying a formula that is specifically designed for insomnia.\n\nryan\n_____________________\nI agree with Ryan that while CBD is quite calming, it's also used for focus and may not be the cannabinoid you need for sleep. \n\nIn fact, you may want to look for a solution with CBN levels of .15 or higher to get your desired effect. Typically you'll find CBN in higher THC strains because CBN is the degradation of THC, due to overexposure to light and air.\n\nNick DeJesus\n_____________________\nYou should look into increasing the amount of THC in your ratio. Just a bit of extra THC can amplify the benefits of the CBD. You could also look into using a low THC/high CBD edible as they can have a slightly different affect on the body/mind. A couple of our items that you may want to look in to are: CBD 4:20 Bar (2:1 ratio), CBD Zinger Cookie (100mg CBD/12mg THC), Hashman CBD Dark Chocolate Bar (1:1 ratio), CBD Balance Tincture (1:1 ratio), and Sweet Dreams Tincture (2:1 ratio roughly). This resulted in hallucinations rather than sleep. Is Effexor the cause; and are there any suggestions so that I may still use cannabis to help my insomnia.\"\n_____________________\nThere are many factors at play here and you may need to experiment. It could be the combination of THC and Effexor. It could be the THC on it's own. It's very unlikely that the CBD is the cause. You did not mention the potency of THC or the ratio of THC to CBD. I would recommend that you limit the potency of THC to 5mg while you start out. I would also recommend that you start with a product that has a higher ratio of CBD to THC and monitor for the same effect. If you're no longer experiencing the hallucinations, but are still experiencing insomnia, then gradually increase the ratio of THC until you find the desired effect. You may even find that a CBD only product may help you. Keep a log of what ratios and potencies you are using - as when you find the right potency and ratio you'll want to make sure you can replicate it.\n\nCoffee Addict","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9703-markdown","title":"How old do you have to be to get a card?","slug":"how-old-do-you-have-to-be-to-get-a-card","content":"\"I would like to get a medical marijuana recommendation but I'm not 18 years old.\"\n_____________________\nIf you are in the state of California you need to be at least 18 years old. You will need to provide proof in the form of government ID and then also have a legitimate medical condition which your doctor will discuss with you during your consultation. If you are a minor, meaning under the age of 18, then you can apply with your parent's consent but you will in most cases need to show medical records and evidence that cannabis is the best treatment path for you. A great for instance is a child with epilepsy. In this instance, the parent is in the consultation with the minor and will be the one to buy and administer the medication.\n\nThe laws vary state by state.\n\npamelahadfield\n_____________________\nUnfortunately we do not serve minors at HelloMD (even with parental consent). I would say that Master OG made me feel the sleepiest the quickest and that Pennywise is worth noting as it is a CBD strain, adding an extra dimension of relaxation. I have tried the CBD sublingual spray and CBN sleep tincture. They are each over a dollar a day. What about sleep strips or something that I can use after brushing my teeth so I don't affect the product or brush it away? \"\n_____________________\nPersonally, I have found that edibles are the most cost effective and effective way for me to get to sleep and stay asleep. CBD has been indicated in some research to actually keep people awake, which seems counter intuitive as it is also a relaxant. THC seems to be the most effective cannabinoid for sleep for most people, although CBN does work for people as well but usually in conjunction with THC.\n\nThe nice thing with edibles is that you can eat it an hour before bed perhaps right after dinner and then brush your teeth and then get ready for a peaceful slumber. Edibles are metabolized by liver and also offer longer lasting effects. The typical edible will last for 4-6 hours depending on the dose.\n\nMy favorite edibles in California are Kiva terra bites, Satori chocolates and Auntie Dolores. Many people claim that 10mg is right for them, but I never go above 5mg. I'd like to try a marijuana product that will help calm me and get a good night's sleep, without feeling hungover in the morning.\"\n_____________________\nLow-dose THC can be a great way to get to sleep and stay asleep. Unlike eating large doses of THC before bed, which can induce anxiety, prevent onset of sleep or even reduce quality of sleep for some consumers, low-dose THC has been proved in clinical studies to reduce insomnia, specifically in patients with PTSD. What's a low dose of THC? We are looking at under 5mg of THC. \n\nOne great product I personally use to shut off my brain at night is Stillwater Tea, you can check it out at http://stillwater.life/tea. The Mellow Mint version, with just 2.5 mg of THC, from an Indica (aka sleepy) strain, it's the right dose to get you to sleep without interfering with sleep. Because tea is hot, the THC is absorbed quickly, and it knocks me out within 15 minutes. I wake up refreshed and not groggy.\n\ndrmicheleross\n_____________________\nCare By Design makes a great 1:1 soft gel that may help you get the rest you so desire. Each soft gel is 10mg CBD + 10mg THC. Because the soft gel is digested like an edible, be prepared to take it 1-2 hours before your bedtime in order to avoid any hangover effect. Edible effects may last 8-10 hours. The THC will help you drift off to sleep and the CBD will help you stay asleep. This product works great for long lasting pain relief, as well sleep. And when they are effecting your sleep, that adds an additional layer of stress to your day. Something things you can do near bedtime, that are not cannabis related, are avoid caffeine (including chocolate), alcohol, spicy foods, tight clothing, extra blankets and cigarette smoke. \n\nWhoopi (Goldberg) and Maya make topical rubs, bath soaks and yummy sipping cocao chocolate treats specifically for women. Follow that bath with a Whoopi and Maya topical rub and you're on your way to deep relaxation.\n\nWhoopi and Maya's CBD chocolate sipping cacao that would be especially good for you in the daytime, since CBD is known for it's calming and anti-anxiety effects.
