Having enough shut-eye gives us energy, keeps us focused and productive, boosts the immune system so we can fight off infections, and provides many other health benefits.\n\nA lack of sleep can have the opposite effect, leaving us dispirited and depressed, and susceptible to a wide range of physical and mental health problems.\n\n![The Kiva Petra Mint is an exceptional microdose and helps many people sleep better at night!](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_17_at_1_07_29_PM_e99402fbcb.png)\nThe Kiva Petra Mint is a popular low dose mint.\n\nThe stats bear out the size of the sleeping issue. [Up to 70 million people](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ajherrington/2021/03/17/can-cannabis-help-you-get-a-good-nights-sleep/?sh=21ed65f1106b) in this country are affected by sleep disorders, spending $70 billion a year on sleep aids, 65% of which goes to medications. Also, 30 to 35% of us suffer temporary symptoms of insomnia at one time or other, with it being a chronic condition in 10% of people.\n\nThe sleep problem has been made worse by the [pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ajherrington/2021/12/31/marijuana-is-replacing-alcohol-for-nearly-half-of-cannabis-consumers-during-the-pandemic/?sh=633f22891fb6). A huge number of adults are turning from alcohol to weed to get a better sleep, as well deal with other conditions, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. \n\nCannabis may be used to address a number of sleep disorders, ranging from insomnia and sleep apnea to night terrors and circadian rhythm disorders. Anyone who has gone into slumber land or has experienced couchlock after consuming weed knows that the substance has a powerful potential for sleep.\n\nMarijuana works by triggering receptors in our endocannabinoid system (ECS), which help regulate hormones, immunity, pain, hunger, and (drum roll!) sleep. Weed cannabinoids that are known for inducing a good sleep include THC, CBD, and CBN. THC is known for its psychoactive effects and its ability to help with sleep. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound and may also work to make you sleep, though in some people it may spark wakefulness (it depends on how your body reacts to it).\n\n![Wana Brands gummies are a popular edible and can be used as a sleep aid.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_17_at_1_08_56_PM_6440bb1268.png)\nEdibles, like Wana Brand gummies, are often used as sleep aids.\n\nCBN is often associated with THC products that have aged over time, and may also serve as a sleep aid, though more research is required to prove this.\n\nTerpenes found in cannabis may also contribute to better sleep, including beta-myrcene and limonene, which have calming effects, beta-caryophyllene for stress-reducing effects, and linalool for sedative and pain-relieving properties.\n\nSchererDelight\n\n---------------\n\nFinding out what works best for you may require some experimentation. You may want to try cannabis products with different levels of CBD, THC, or CBN. If you are just starting out, going low and slow is a good way to proceed.\n\nWith THC particularly it might be a good idea to start with a low dosage, 2mg for example, and go up from there, if you need it, to 10mg or even higher. Also try different brands and consumption methods, including smoking, vaping, edibles, gel caps, and others. Some cannabis brands specialize in sleep disorders, so seek these out.\n\nPManza\n\n--------------------------\n![Jetty Extracts has a variety of solventless products with live rosin.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_17_at_1_11_38_PM_4ae9aa5b5c.png)\nJetty Extracts has a variety of solventless products with live rosin.\n\nThrough our YouTube channel and article archive, [HelloMD](https://hellomd.com/) has provided a lot of information about how medical marijuana can help with sleep and good products to try if you are new to the field. I am wondering if there is a difference between THC and CBD and which may help me get over this insomnia.**\n\nMitchell Y.\n\n------------------\n\nOK, I have some information for you to sleep on. Sleep disorders such as insomnia and sleep apnea are quite common in this country, and more and more people are trying cannabis as a sleep aid. This is, in fact, not new. Marijuana has been used as a [sleep aid for hundreds of years](https://hellomd.ca/articles/medical-marijuana-could-help-insomniacs-sleep-better). \n\nMore recently research has shown that the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays a role in regulating sleep. Other research shows that marijuana cannabinoids tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) may also play a part in regulating the ECS, helping people to establish more regular sleeping patterns.\n\nThere is a [growing body of evidence](https://www.sleepfoundation.org/natural-sleep-aids/marijuana-for-sleep) to suggest that cannabis helps with conditions such as insomnia, though there is the question of whether it may be more beneficial for short-term use, whereas long-term use might actually cause problems with sleep.\n\n![Some cannabis products specifically target sleep - like the Dosist pen](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_29_19_PM_2051231cc9.png)\nThe Dosist pen 'Rest' targets sleep\n\n\nWith certain conditions, including chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), restless leg syndrome (RLS), and multiple sclerosis, cannabis may help people fall asleep faster, wake up less during the night, and enjoy better sleep quality overall. Other people report getting relief, and better sleep, when suffering from insomnia, anxiety, and pain.\n\nTHC typically works as a sedative, but it can be stimulating for some users, especially for those who are new to using cannabis or taking higher doses. In these cases, using marijuana before bed may result in a longer time of falling asleep. CBD appears to promote alertness at lower doses, and sleepiness at higher doses. \n\nOne study suggests that [CBD is more promising](https://hellomd.ca/articles/how-can-i-use-cannabis-to-ease-my-insomnia) as a treatment because even though THC may lessen sleep latency, long-term sleep patterns could be negatively affected.\n\nTHC improves sleep by reducing REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. REM sleep is associated with reducing dreams, which leads to better quality of sleep. However, REM sleep is a normal part of the body’s function and prolonged suppression could lead to serious sleeping problems.\n\nOn the other hand, decreasing REM sleep may provide some help for people with PTSD, because nightmares are a common symptom, so less dreaming is good. \n\n[CBD may also have fewer side effects](https://hellomd.ca/articles/medical-marijuana-could-help-insomniacs-sleep-better) for users than THC, since it’s not psychoactive and has no effects on the gastrointestinal system.\n\nRonnieC\n\n--------------\n\nIt’s also worth looking at the most common strains of cannabis: indica and sativa. Sativa tends to be more stimulating and people tend to use it for an energy boost. Indica tends to be more relaxing, promoting feelings of relaxation and sleepiness.\n\nSo many users suggest that indica is a better place to start looking for a sleep aid. But if you want to avoid nightmares, then sativa is worth exploring.\n\nUtopia Gilly\n\n-------------\n\nThere are studies that show that [CBD can work well](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/cbd-and-sleep#research) at high doses to promote sleep.\n\n![Sleep Synergy targets sleep with CBD and CBN](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_32_04_PM_657049cf0b.png)\n\nOne study worked on the basis that levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, usually hit their peak in the morning. However, those suffering from insomnia may have high cortisol levels at night, making them wake up. CBD was shown to reduce cortisol levels and help the study participants get better sleep.\n\nBasically, the best way to find out what will work best for you is to try different strains with different combinations of THC and CBD. Also try different methods of consumption, including smoking, vaping, pills, edibles, tinctures and so on.\n\nFor example, if you smoke or vape cannabis, you will find the onset (how fast it acts) is quick, but also ends quickly. With edibles, it takes longer for the cannabinoids to kick in, but the effects last longer — so these might be worth exploring by those who want a long night of sleep.\n\nJohnnyBgud\n\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5037593984962405,"src":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/14b42/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg","srcSet":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/f836f/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/2244e/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 400w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/14b42/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 800w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/47498/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 1200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/0e329/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 1600w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/93dd1/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 6240w","srcWebp":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/58556/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/61e93/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/1f5c5/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 400w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/58556/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 800w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/99238/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 1200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/7c22d/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 1600w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/7e4f0/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 6240w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12540-markdown","title":"what is best as a sleep aid?","slug":"what-is-best-as-a-sleep-aid","content":"**I’ve always had trouble sleeping. But now it’s got worse and insomnia at night and walking dead during the day is my normal. Do you have cannabis recommendations that work well as a sleep aid?**\n\nMatthew J.\n\n------------------------\nYes, lack of sleep is no laughing matter. You endure long, frustrating nights, often with your darkest thoughts, and then even longer days where you lack energy and have trouble focusing.\n\n![shutterstock_366276713-min.jpg](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/shutterstock_366276713_min_ed5d62e30a.jpg)\n\nEverybody has trouble sleeping now and then, but if it is a chronic condition it could be a sleep disorder such as [insomnia](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/12119-insomnia), where it is hard to nod off, to stay asleep if you manage it, and to get enough shut-eye to keep you healthy.\n\nSleeplessness can lead to health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and weight gain. You may feel fatigued and irritable during the day. You are not alone with your problem sleeping. Sleep disorders affect up to 70 million Americans every year. Insomnia symptoms are found in about  33% to 50% of the adult population, while chronic insomnia disorder is estimated to be about 10% to 15%.\n\nTraditional treatments for insomnia could be medications, such as various kinds of sleeping pills, and therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. But more and more people are looking to cannabis as an alternative to help them sleep, often to avoid the heavy side effects experienced with some traditional medications.\n\n[Some studies show](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis) that many people report falling asleep easier and more quickly after consuming marijuana. As well, cannabis can sometimes decrease episodes of sleep apnea, helping patients sleep more consistently throughout the night.\n\nBeing sleepless in Seattle — and everywhere else — has become such a common problem that more and more cannabis products specifically designed to help get much needed rest are hitting the market. For example, in the HelloMD article archive we have an [interview with Pianta Tinta](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-as-a-sleep-aid-for-insomnia-an-interview-with-pianta-tinta), whose company [Pianta Tinta Collective](https://www.piantacbd.com/) develops high CBD tinctures, oils and rubs that help with insomnia, as well as other conditions, such as chronic pain.\n\nSaid Tinta: “We recently produced a high THC tincture [[Romulan Super High THC Tincture](https://www.piantacbd.com/new-products?category=High+THC)] that we feel is particularly good at relieving insomnia. As we all know, insomnia can be difficult to overcome. Not everyone has insomnia for the same reasons. For instance, one person may not be sleeping because they have pain related to inflammation. If you bring the inflammation down with a high CBD product, they may be able to get a good night’s sleep every night. In other instances, a high THC tincture will help relax a person who struggles to get to sleep and also help them to stay asleep longer.”\n\nSleeplessness can be due to a variety of causes. So cannabis offers a number of [THC- and CBD-leaning solutions](https://hellomd.com/articles/the-10-best-marijuana-strains-for-insomnia) that can address different reasons for the problem.\n\nThree strains of cannabis that have a good track record of helping people to sleep better include:\n\n- Harlequin: This is a hybrid cannabis strain that is 75% sativa-dominant, and strong in CBD, with a CBD-to-THC ratio of 5:2. [Harlequin](https://hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) helps people to relax, and  fall and stay asleep. Because it has minimal psychoactivity, it's good for people who suffer from anxiety-related insomnia.\n- Girl Scout Cookies: This is an indica strain with 20% THC and 2% CBD. It's known for its sedating, full-body relaxation effects, so it may be good for those suffering from insomnia. [Girl Scout Cookies](https://hellomd.com/strains/gsc) is a very potent strain, so go slow is good advice, since it can produce strong psychoactive effects.\n- White Widow: This is a balanced hybrid cannabis strain that is known to be more cerebral and relaxing while providing a well-balanced high. With  about 20% THC and 2% CBD, [White Widow](https://hellomd.com/strains/white-widow) is often useful for insomnia associated with pain and depression).\n\nJack HMD\n\n\n---------------\nThe greatest marijuana strain to help you [sleep better](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis) depends a lot on what's causing your sleeplessness. Insomnia can be caused by a wide range of psychiatric or medical disorders, poor sleeping habits, or other biological factors. Acid reflux, hypertension, chronic pain, melancholy, stress, anxiety, or a recent traumatic event like the death of a loved one can all contribute to insomnia.\n\nInsomnia can also result from late-night activities that induce adrenaline spikes, such as working out after work. In addition, late-afternoon or evening caffeine consumption, as well as working, watching TV, or eating, can all contribute to insomnia.\n\nIf you can alleviate your insomnia by just changing your sleep routine, go ahead and make the changes. Marijuana, on the other hand, can aid if you're having trouble sleeping due to other concerns including pain, melancholy, stress, or anxiety. When patients were administered THC, they took significantly less time to fall asleep, according to a 1973 research published in Human Pharmacology. Meanwhile, a 1981 study found that giving patients with insomnia a 160 mg dose of CBD enhanced the length of time they could sleep compared to giving them a placebo.\n\nHere are four marijuana strains that are better at relieving insomnia caused by chronic pain, while others are better at relieving anxiety.\n\nHere are the strains I recommend:\n\n1. Harlequin\n[Harlequin](https://hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) is a hybrid cannabis strain that is 75 percent sativa-dominant. Harlequin is strong in CBD, with a CBD-to-THC ratio of 5:2. Pain, stress, anxiety, and sadness are all known to be relieved by this strain. Harlequin is a relaxing strain that helps people fall and stay asleep, despite its sativa dominance. Because it has little to no psychoactivity, it's very beneficial for persons who suffer from anxiety-related insomnia.\n\n2. Cookie Jar\nCookie Jar is a cross between White Fire Alien OG and Platinum Girl Scout Cookies. This marijuana strain can aid with anxiety and headaches, but it's most recognized for its overall relaxing effects. As a result, Cookie Jar is an excellent choice!\n\n3. Girl Scout Cookies\nGirl Scout Cookies is an indica strain that has 20% THC and 2% CBD. The most common strains are Sativa and Indica, with Indica being associated with producing a state of relaxation and promoter of sleep. New evidence is emerging that cannabis reduces time to fall asleep, shortens REM sleep, and lengthens time spent in deep sleep.\n\nIt is important to note that both Sativa and Indica strains exhibit different cannabinoid profiles and for symptom relief you may wish to consider basing your selection on the CBD to THC profiles. \n\n![Cannabis can help beat insomnia.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_12_25_at_11_55_30_AM_6077c29e25.png)\n\nTHC dominant strains are more likely to cause psychoactivity, though selected [for the treatment of pain or insomnia](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis). CBD dominant strains have a much smaller amount of THC and are used by those sensitive to THC psychoactive effects. A balanced THC/CBD strain is often preferred given its efficacy for symptom relief with less psychoactivity. \n\nAdditionally, though THC produces a more pronounced sedative effect even in small doses compared to other cannabinoids, there may be value-add of CBD in sleep enhancement by treating symptoms associated with health conditions that affect one's ability to fall asleep. \nFor those new to cannabis, it is suggested to start with a low THC amount and slowing increasing the dose until maximal symptom improvement is achieved to avoid unwanted side effects.\n\n![Cannabis flower can help you sleep at night.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_12_25_at_11_56_31_AM_30b1188f1f.png)\n\nSome common strains that help people sleep are:\n\n- [Granddaddy Purple](https://hellomd.com/strains/granddaddy-purple)\n- [ACDC](https://hellomd.ca/strains/acdc)\n- [Purple Urkle](https://hellomd.com/strains/purple-urkle)\n- [Northern Lights](https://hellomd.com/strains/northern-lights)\n- [Bubba Kush](https://hellomd.com/strains/bubba-kush)\n\nI hope this helps and that you finally get a good night's sleep!\n\nCarling, NP\n_____________________\n\n![Sleep hygiene is important for getting a good night's sleep.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_12_25_at_11_58_43_AM_3a9a0a1a6b.png)\n\nWhen it comes to sleep there are several things that need to be considered. Similarly, several recently published studies suggest  that  CBD does the same. However, CBD does so, not by increasing the   serotonin available to bind 5-HT1A receptors, as SSRIs do, but by   mimicking serotonin's action at the 5-HT1A receptor; or, in scientific   terms: CBD is a 5-HT1A  receptor agonist. ++\n\nIn  general, for anxiety and depression issues, patients take between 5mg  to 20mg of CBD two to three times/day. However, if possible, adding a  small to moderate amount of THC would be much more effective, especially  during any acute increase of intense anxiety—2.5mg to 10mg of THC is  what most patients find helpful, without unwanted side effects. However,  patients should always \"start low, and go slow.\" So, patients should  not start above 2.5mg of THC. ++ If THC is available, it can be mixed  with THC at varying levels. These products are expressed in ratios. ++ Ratios: In the vast majority of cases, are expressed in Parts of CBD, to every Part of THC.\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nSo, for example, 10:1 would indicate 10CBD:1THC; 2:1 would indicate 2CBD:1THC\nIn  general, when both CBD and THC are valuable in treating the condition,  it's a good idea to keep the milligrams of CBD relatively consistent,  then manipulate the ratios to provide an appropriate amount of THC. Most  choose between 5 to 20mg of CBD. \n\nSo, for example, if we wanted  to keep the CBD dosage at 10mg, we would choose the ratio of the product  that provides the amount of THC that is acceptable to the patient. Many  patients want no perceptible psychoactivity during the day, while some  psychoactivity during the evening is acceptable. In this situation, many  would use a higher ratio during the day, such as\n10:1, which would  provide 10mg of CBD and 1mg of THC. Most patients do not perceive  psychoactivity when taking 1mg, or less of THC\n\nThen as a sleep  aid, a more balanced ratio, such as 1:1, which would provide 10mg of  CBD, and 10mg of THC. 10mg is considered a \"standard dose.\" Most new  patients report 10mg of THC to be moderately to extremely psychoactive.  So, when starting, it's always a good idea to start low, and go slow.   In general, 2.5mgs of THC would be a good \"test dose.\"\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nRatios of between 10:1 and 30:1 are rarely  psychoactive, so this ratio-range would be a good choice for most when  psychoactivity is to be avoided, such as during the daytime, or if the  patient prefers to avoid any psychoactivity. +\n\nRatios of between  4:1 and 8:1 are considered mid-range ratios. In general, products in  this range would cause mild psychoactivity, noticeable anxiety relief  and a boosted mood, without feeling \"high\". +\n\n2:1 and 1:1 are  more balanced ratios. In fact, one of the least understood benefits of CBD oil is its possible effectiveness in treating symptoms associated with alcohol and drug addiction.\n\nIt is common, over time, to require more CBD to achieve the desired effect as your body develops a tolerance to the cannabinoid. This is particularly true for new consumers.\n\nKevin P.\n_____________________\nHi there!\nThere is absolutely no potential of developing  an addiction to cannabis when using such a low  THC-concentration-containing product, such as the 20:1 tincture you and  your husband have been using. CBD has no addictive potential; heavy and  frequent use of THC may cause a psychological dependence, but not  physical dependence, as alcohol,  benzodiazepines and opiates can cause. You and your husband are not even on the map of those engaged in heavy THC use. \n\nAlso,  five drops of that tincture likely has between 0.1mg and 0.3mg of THC,  which would be imperceptible for most likely everyone. Many don't even  notice 3mg.  Also, you can/should be taking the oil on an as needed  basis. Taking the oil once per day would not provide relief for more  than 6 hours at the most. I usually recommend taking the oil at least  twice per day. Also, most should at least 10 drops of a 20:1  tincture/dose, as 5 drops likely contains less than 3mg of CBD, and  functionally, zero THC. \n\nSince it seems your husband has difficulty sleeping due to more  noticeable pain in the evening, an oil with a higher THC concentration  would likely be more beneficial. In general, after learning more about  the patient's situation, I would recommend a 1:1 or 2:1 oil if THC is  acceptable to the patient. I recommend starting no higher than 2.5mg of  THC per dose. Also, 1:1 is, by far, the most studied ratio, including in  studies regarding pain issues. For sleep, THC is what causes sedation.\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nSo, for example, if we wanted to keep the CBD dosage at 10mg/dose,  we would choose the ratio of the product that provides the amount of  THC that is acceptable to the patient. Some inhaled methods, such as a vaporizer, result in a lesser degree of laryngitis than others such as unfiltered joints.\n\nOil taken under a tongue should cause the irritation and soreness; however, sometimes it can be mild hypersensitivity of the area to the product. In your case you can try mix your oil with food and swallow it, or you can try pills with CBD. \n\nKrabell14","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABQAAAAPCAYAAADkmO9VAAAACXBIWXMAAAsSAAALEgHS3X78AAAEIElEQVQ4yx2R+U/TdxyH+xdMqVAo0BZaLQIylHEKVA6rE+VQSJVjglNU5HIIs2DqwKIgMU5GmHgrIMKcOECwcpSWQ6SozBkzM5dlZm6ZW7bMKFG2uWcf+Cav3755Ps/79ZLYx+4xZJ9kWKSjtYWTBdk0bNZjq97LaFUu0w1l/Gw5x69DrcxMdvHG0cVv1jZ+6rrCtfp62lqa6Wlvpbv9MqP9FiRzQKvdgdV2hy9aLnG2ZDudxVncO3uE8YZyvjlVzo8dNfxpa+b3sWs4ui5QXVFK4upYtmRm0tbWwY2OK/R0dDByawCJbfQu9vH7jN2e5sLpkxzOSeWztTqaEiI5lxrOQPlmhutLOXXYSEnRHtI2p6Nftw5dTBRZ23JovnKVnquddH95HVv/MJLheeDXTN1/zNHaGlao5eTrwjmTnURTbjK7N64jJTmR0PAwVsXFkLAhgRgBW/u+nqL9B7h4WQA7e+kWGbLYkFhHpuZPnnA8pLW1nXcD/AkLXs6amGiidVGseC+I0LAQVkaIhAcTFhZEeHgI6VtzKCyr4FKLAHbdEulncGAUSb/1DgPWSUbE2T29g+jj9Cg8PXBzc0HjrUS7RI2frw8B/lr8fDQEi8cMGZnsKi6l2Giiue06N3vt9PWNMmR1ILEMCuCwGMU+hWVgnPjVawRIg5dKhVKpmIerlJ54qzxRKeRERkeRkbNdZAe5+cUc+/w8F9t76O4bF4xHAiiolqEpevtvM3n/B3bmFeK0cAFyuTvSRVKkTguQSt/B1dWJoKBANhm2kLktl8SUNPKEpfl4IwfrGjh+qoUHj54huTnkoG/wLjet09gmHpMtfnaXOwvAImQiHu4ytFoVYRGhJKcZSBd265M3sj4phV1FpRysPUHZJ7XUNZ7nxctXAmh7gM3xPfbJJ1SYzDg7S1myWIOPViP68yIgwIc4fTwZ2R+Slv4Bq2LjiVi5kg1Jm8gvKWdvxSEKjZWcON3K7D9vxShTT/nKMkFT42kMSQm4uAgzmQteXt6oRXyXLhErhwpQHDpdDCHBIQQGBpKSamDPR0YKSk3kFhvpHRxl7pNcuHyDo+ZaqvaXsTs9FbW3ioVOC8XJMjw9FXh7q4XpYrG0L/7+fvj5+YqlQ0SXGWzNLWDrzkI+rjzK8z/+Eob/IjlW+ynmAyaM+XmYy0pIjI9B6uwkTKW4ymQoFEqxslKsrkSjVrPUR8vy5StEj6kkG7JISDYwMjnNW2H3enYWSc2hOmpMlZiKC6kWQHPZPjI3bcRDLhOmC+ZN5a5ysbobCg8PlAoFvn7LiNTFERurx1xVw8jYQ54+f8XMGwGsMh3hiABW7iudB1YbjdRVVJCfbiAkYBnurs7IXJxxm6vAQ45WrSE2ahV52Tu4eKaZmb//49vvfuHJsxe8fD3L/yi5vAMScPD0AAAAAElFTkSuQmCC","aspectRatio":1.36986301369863,"src":"/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/97f33/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.png","srcSet":"/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/69585/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.png 200w,\n/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/497c6/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.png 400w,\n/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/97f33/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.png 483w","srcWebp":"/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/e4e06/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/61e93/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.webp 200w,\n/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/1f5c5/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.webp 400w,\n/static/d026e25370e7e586f6343f7d06b3ff66/e4e06/0beff56b4f4b9d34d59a48ef8e15bc82.webp 483w","sizes":"(max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12335-markdown","title":"I have psoriatic arthritis and was wondering if this would be the best product for chronic pain, inflammation, and sleep problems.","slug":"i-have-psoriatic-arthritis-and-was-wondering-if-this-would-be-the-best-product-for-chronic-pain-inflammation-and-sleep-problems","content":"\"@\"\n_____________________\nPsoriasis  is an autoimmune skin condition which leads to an overproduction of  skin cells called keratinocytes. The immune system mistakes components  of the body's own skin as pathogens, such as a virus or harmful  bacteria, that need to be removed from the body. This autoimmune  reaction leads to inflammation and an overproduction of skin cells,  resulting in scaling, itch and pain. Between 18% and 42%of people  with psoriasis develop psoriatic  arthritis (PA).\n\nThe endocannabinoid system (ECS) is the body's own  naturally occurring network of receptors and cannabinoids that is  involved in several bodily functions - immunoregulation being one of the  most important and extensively studied. Several  studies have shown that the CBD downregulates an overactive and self-attacking immune  reaction. \n https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3044336/\n\nThe ECS is largely devoted to maintaining homeostasis (the  tendency of organisms to auto-regulate and maintain their internal  environment at  equilibrium). Deficiency or malfunction of the ECS has  become a focus for researchers seeking treatment options for several  maladies, including psoriasis and PA. In fact, the scientific community has   recently termed the ECS malfunction: Clinical Endocannabanoid  Decifiency, or CECD. Restoring balance to the ECS with phytocannabinoids, such as CBD and THC, is the crux of medicinal cannabis treatment.\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nIn fact, the phytocannabinoids THC, CBD,  CBN and CBG have all been found  to inhibit keratinocyte proliferation in hyper-proliferating  keratinocyte cell lines, such as those found in psoriasis and PA.  Among the four  phytocannabinoids, CBD showed the most anti-proliferative potency, and required the lowest plasma concentration to inhibit keratinocye  overproliferation.\nhttps://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-ab&q=Wilkinson%2C+J.D.%2C+and+Williamson%2C+E.M.+%282007%2C+February%29.+Cannabinoids+inhibit+human+keratinocyte+proliferation+through+a+non-CB1%2FCB2+mechanism+and+have+a+potential+therapeutic+value+in+the+treatment+of+psoriasis.+Journal+of+Dermatological+Science%2C+45%282%29%2C+87-92.\n\nFurther, studies have showed that both endocannabinoids and  phytocannabinoids can directly treat the symptoms of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, such as  pain and itch.\nhttp://www.jaad.org/article/S0190-9622(17)30308-0/fulltext\nhttps://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/233825\n\nAnd  finally, CBD can treat the the lost sleep, anxiety and depression  most psoriasis patients experience.  Beyond helping the patient better cope with the emotional toll psoriasis can cause, improving sleep and  lowering depression and anxiety can also reduce the frequency of  psoriasis flare-ups.\n\n\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nThat product is an excellent choice: Rather than simply isolating CBD, Elixinol follows a  \"whole-plant philosophy\" which increases the oil's medicinal properties  by preserving accessory cannabinoids and terpenes—which all work  together in synergy to provide the \"entourage effect.\"  Furthermore,  rather than chemical solvents, Elixinol uses CO2 to extract CBD,  accessory cannabinoids and terpenes—which results in a more potent, pure  and safe CBD oil. \n\nFurther still, this product is very easily dosed, as the bottle specifies the miligrams of CBD per mililiter, drop or dropper-full.  Most CBD products are very poorly labeled, which leads to confusion and guessing.\n\nI hope this helps!\n\ndrkim","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12332-markdown","title":"What is the most effective strain for insomnia without getting the munchies ","slug":"what-is-the-most-effective-strain-for-insomnia-without-getting-the-munchies","content":"\"most effective canabis for insomnia \"\n_____________________\nHi there!\nBecause THC is the  cannabinoid most responsible for both sedation, and increasing appetite,  finding a strain for insomnia, that won't cause as much of the  munchies, isn't easy. \n\nCBD  should help those with insomnia without inducing the munchies; however,  the effects would be much less pronounced when compared to THC. CBD  won't actually make you sleepy; however, it does promote relaxation and decreased anxiety levels. \n\nI recommend CBD strains with a balanced ratio of between 3CBD:1THC and 1CBD:1THC. \nMy two favorite strains to help promote sleep with less appetite stimulation are:\nStephen Hawking Kush - a 3:2 Indica CBD strain\nand\nSweet and Sour Widow, a 1:1 Indica CBD strain.\n\nSedating and balanced CBD strains with a higher content of THCV would be the  best solution (THCV is a phytocannabinoid that decreases appetite.)  However, THCV strains tend to provide a stimulating, clear  headed, and energetic high. THCV strains would be a great choice for daytime use. \n\nFor more info on THCV:\nhttps://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a8db389f24d1300077ccb5a/psychoactive-thcv-the-cannabinoid-that-kills-your-appetite\n\nI hope this helps!\n\ndrkim","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12312-markdown","title":"what is best for severe insomnia?","slug":"what-is-best-for-severe-insomnia","content":"\"I have gotten other CBD but I relied on the drivers and have no idea what I got..please help.\"\n_____________________\nThe answer depends on whether you have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep. If the former, you may want something fast-acting like a tincture or vaporizer to help you get to sleep right away. On the other hand, a CBD edible's effects can last for several hours - perfect for helping you sleep through the night.\n\nWe have a great article here, \"4 Ways You Can Use CBD To Beat Insomnia\", with some other great tips and advice: https://www.hellolift.com/health-wellness/5be3805026ef630008f055c5/4-ways-you-can-use-cbd-to-beat-insomnia\n\nKevin P.","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12300-markdown","title":"Sleeeeep please!","slug":"sleeeeep-please","content":"\"Once you fall asleep how many hours rest do you get? However, if staying asleep remains a problem, an edible may be the better choice for you.  \nJust keep in mind: When on an empty stomach, peak effect is achieved in about one hour. However, if you've recently had a large meal (especially one high in fat content), peak effect might be delayed for up to two hours, so be patient. Also, if you wake up feeling groggy the next morning, you can try reducing the dose and/or taking it earlier in the evening. \nI hope this helps!\n\ndrkim","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":0,"numPages":20,"currentPage":1,"id":5389,"name":"Insomnia","slug":"insomnia","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
