However, patients can be arrested if they exceed reasonable amounts and they can be cited or fined for exceeding local laws. Under MMRSA, which took effect Jan. 1, 2016, qualified patients can cultivate up to 100 square feet for personal medical use, and primary caregivers with five or fewer patients are allowed up to 500 square feet. Exemption under this section does not prevent a local government from further restricting or banning the cultivation of medical cannabis.\n\nAlthough new laws have allowed whatever is justifiable medically, traditionally the limit has been 8 ounces and we recommend that you do not exceed this without licensing with the state.\n\nBartSmart","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9026-markdown","title":"How long should a scleroderma patient take THC oil for and is it contra-indicated with prescription drugs?","slug":"how-long-should-a-scleroderma-patient-take-thc-oil-for-and-is-it-contra-indicated-with-prescription-drugs","content":"\"Hello, a friend has scleroderma&is being treated with:Setraline 100mg(anti-depressant),lisinopril 5mg(for hypertension)& hydroxychloquine sulfate 20g(antirheumatic).She will soon start a course of THC oil with the intention of having a high dose treatment (1g/day over 3 doses) after building a tolerance over 20 days,& ideally would reduce this to a maintenance dose.I understand all cases are different however I was wondering how long she should take the high dose for to get a full treatment?We are planning 1g/day for 40days&then down to a maintenance dose thereafter?Also,I cannot find any reason to think these medications will have reactions with the oil except that we must monitor her blood pressure carefully,but if anyone knows anything else please do let me know.We hope that she will be able to reduce her medications slowly and eventually take only THC and supplements such as magnesium, hawthorne etc for her blood pressure.Diet&exerercise will also be priorities.Any advice would be much appreciated.Thanks!\"\n_____________________\nI certainly do not want to rain on your parade but unfortunately I do not believe that THC is the answer to your friend's Scleroderma challenges. THC will be helpful but CBD is what will help to put autoimmune disease in remission and the THC may make your friend happy and functional.  I would start your friend on a high dose CBD tincture to start building up the CBD levels. The THC may be done during the day (Please, see the article on microdosing THC) with CBD at night for deep restorative sleep and long term improved health but it will take about 1 month before there is a noticable difference and two months before you can really tell a difference so please, trust it will work. \nDo consider going on a Paleo diet to eliminate all free glutamates from the diet since these are highly addictive and toxic especially to the neurological system. Finding a preparation helpful for their symptoms often requires that patients do some cautious experimentation with different varieties of cannabis and cannabis preparations containing various ratios of CBD:THC. I suggest reviewing the cannabis 101 article on the HelloMD website (https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) to begin discovering which types of cannabis preparations might be helpful and appropriate.  Patients with anxiety often report the most benefit from preparations rich in CBD but also with small amounts of THC, such as 4:1 CBD:THC tinctures.  As with many medicines, effects may change with larger doses.  Begin with small amounts and increase gradually to find the optimal range.   \n\ndrelkind\n_____________________\nHi there! I am not a Doctor, but you might find this article we published helpful: https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/57f2b7f12b1e99000a671ac3/top-10-high-cbd-marijuana-strains-for-anxiety \n\nIt goes over different studies that have shown that CBD is beneficial for anxiety relief, as well as some strains that are high in CBD. \n\nHere are the links to the 2 studies mentioned in this article. 1) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21307846 2) http://www.cell.com/neuron/fulltext/S0896-6273(14)00017-8\n\nHope this helps!\n\nmelissa\n_____________________\nIf you are seeking clinical studies regarding the effects of CBD on anxiety and depression there is still relatively little that is definitive.  As an example, although Melissa noted two scientific papers that addressed the issue, one of them was a promising report but a small study, and one of them involved finding CB1 receptors in key brain sites involved in anxiety (CBD does not bind to CB1 receptors) and was not a clinical paper.  The good news is there is an enormous body of anecdotal evidence that CBD is helpful for patients experiencing anxiety, and there is zero evidence of any toxicity at all.  This means that you can feel free to do some cautious experimenting to find a preparation and dose that are helpful without fear of doing harm.  I hope you have the opportunity to go to a place where cannabis use is not criminalized so you can discover its potential benefits, but I'd start enthusiastically with CBD if that is available to you.  \n\ndrelkind","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":12,"numPages":5,"currentPage":2,"id":5493,"name":"Medical Recommendation","slug":"medical-recommendation","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
