Try and get some Harlequin Cannatonic or ACDC. These are good high CBD strains that aren't packed with thc, so it's a more functional high.\n\ncannabear\n_____________________\nThe strain that will work best for treating your migraines depends on a number of factors - at what point in the migraine are you trying to treat it? What results are you going for (being able to sleep pain free, being able to go about your day, etc)? Finding the right strain(s) will take some experimentation, and here is a place to start. \n\nFor prevention of migraines I'd suggest a high CBD strain or product. Taking a high CBD tincture can help alleviate inflammation, tension, and stress in general. Massaging your neck, temples, or other tense areas with a cannabis topical can also help keep things relaxed. \n\nAt the onset of a migraine I'd suggest a higher CBD stain to try and fend it off. Harlequin is a popular high-CBD strain and the psychoactive effects are minimal. \n\nIf you're okay with some psychoactive effect, Blue Dream is a good daytime hybrid strain that should keep you up and moving while providing some pain relief. \n\nIf you've reached the point where the migraine has set in and you're experiencing extreme pain and nausea, a stronger strain such as Girl Scout Cookies can help provide a solid dose of pain relief. Or, if you're looking to knock yourself out until the migraine passes, you could try Lemon OG Kush - a strain patients report is great for sleep.\n\nandrea13","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11434-markdown","title":"What is the best treatment for migraine headaches?","slug":"what-is-the-best-treatment-for-migraine-headaches","content":"\n_____________________\nThis is a difficult question to answer as what is good for one person is not necessarily the right choice for another. The use of cannabis for treatment is highly individual. I am not a doctor and this only represents my opinion and the research I have done. I hope this helps!\n\npamelahadfield\n_____________________\nI actually wrote an answer to this many months ago and you can find it if you do a search for migraines. If you consider adding high CBD/ low THC tincture twice daily to your plan, your migraines should start to reduce in frequency and severity the longer you use CBD. You may still experience breakthrough migraines but CBD will tend to get rid of about 90% of your migraines. Migraine sufferers are very chemically sensitive. Migraine sufferers tend to get depression if they breathe chemicals they're allergic to, I call it a migraine in your emotions. We also get irritable bowel syndrome when we eat foods were allergic to and we get neck pain that must be interrupted in order to get rid of the migraine so always having CBD salve helps. Migraine sufferers must eliminate free glutamate from their diet since free glutamate's are very neurologically toxic. Consider reading www.truthinlabeling.org for list of free glutamate's. It is always a good idea to get your genetic chart to see if you have a methylation problem in your neurotransmitters, vitamin D receptors or in your \nMAO-A receptor so a dietary and supplement program can be designed that will help you get well.\n\ndrolson\n_____________________\nWe have many patients who find great success using Moxie Meds CBD-rich tinctures to address migraines. However, rather than CBD, the relevant research centers around THC's role in migraine headache relief. \n\nThe understanding of migraine pathophysiology has evolved from the belief that migraine headaches are a vascular disorder, to evidence that better defines migraines as a neurogenic disorder associated with secondary changes in brain perfusion. \n\nTHC has been shown to, independant of vasocontsriction (blood vessel narrowing), reduce neuropathic pain. THC also increases cerebral serotonin levels which leads to vasoconstriction (blood vessel narrowing) - the same mechanism of action of  sumitriptan (Imitrex). \n\n\ndrkim\n_____________________\nMy colleagues have given some terrific answers for treatment of migraine, including recent research as to the etiology/ causes of migraine. There have been recent papers in the literature that surmise that migraines should be categorized with fibromyalgia and Irritable bowel Syndrome as manifestations of Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency Syndromes (CEDS). It sounds like multiple suggestions have been given out for varying CBD vs THC ratios (although Dr. Kim has also mentioned that much of the data involving migraine treatment with cannabis has looked at THC levels). In general, I try to have patients avoid smoking/ combusting plant material as the carbon monoxide and other chemicals produced might be headache inducers for a fair amount of patients; in general I tell patients that a vape pen doesn't have the same headache risks as a pipe/ water pipe/ joint. If patients are looking for a cannabis delivery method that doesn't involves smoke/ vapor (if patients want to eschew all inhalation methods), pts may also like tincture drops which have been reported to be fast acting though perhaps not quite as fast as inhalation. Pt's have reported that cannabis tincture drops, diluted in warm non-caffeinated tea, drink, or hot soup can see onset of action within 10 minutes, relatively quick enough to address the migraine headache symptoms. Given the sudden and painful nature of migraine and other headaches, I always advise patients to have a healthy ad-mixture of CBD and THC\n\ndrpark","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11433-markdown","title":"which strain is best for migraine head ache","slug":"which-strain-is-best-for-migraine-head-ache","content":"\n_____________________\nI am not a doctor and so this answer only represents my opinion. I'd appreciate any advice based on experience. I am even considering once I create this to get lab testing just to be sure I get it right!\"\n_____________________\nI may be able to help you. Are you doing a superhigh CBD, low THC, like a 28 : 1 preparation in MCT oil? Typically migraines are controlled at about 15 drops twice daily but you will not obtain the full effect for three weeks. Taking a super concentrated allows you to spend far less money on your CBD medication because you take less medication to achieve the same effect. In addition you must eliminate all the triggers so please see the article I wrote under 'Answers' on migraines. Do not take extra calcium but you must take extra vitamin D3 in order to keep your blood level above 50 ng/mL. Once you have a baseline of CBD onboard, you may still get a migraine but it's very easy to get rid of it. Migraine sufferers have and MAO-A snp in their genetic chart making them very chemically sensitive, and we have a hard time detoxifying so you must leave off all the toxic chemicals. Cigarette smoke and other toxic chemicals can cause a migraine in your emotions, diagnosed as depression. When you eat chemicals allergic to you may have a migraine in your gut, diagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome but don't let the doctors drug that, that is your body communicating with you. If you know you have a terrible pain in your neck and that is warning you the migraine is beginning. Treat your neck with cannabis salve and take a dose of D-ribose in order to stop the migraine before it fully involves. You must eliminate glutamate in your diet because you were extremely glutamate sensitive. You can Google and read about glutamate, The most famous one is monosodium glutamate and we are regularly poisoned in our foods with this chemical and it is neurologically toxic and can kill nerve cells.\nGood luck, I know you can do this without having to make your own medicine but you likely are over treating yourself with CBD tincture and you need to be much more diligent with removing toxic chemicals from your environment and your food.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11155-markdown","title":"I have intense migraines and I find too much THC actually makes them worse. It typically has a CBD/THC ratio of 5/2. The CBD should enhance the pain-killing effects of THC while preventing its intoxicating effects. Furthermore, harlequin is a sativa dominant (75/25) strain, which should allow you to have an alert, clear head while managing your headaches during the day.\n\ndredmunds\n_____________________\nHarlequin is a great start in your experiments with CBD. It is a high-CBD strain - almost 2:1 ratio of CBD to THC - and it is readily available. CBD is often prescribed for headache, migraine, and chronic pain, so trying some higher CBD flower or other products is likely a worthwhile experiment. Additional options may be to try an even higher CBD strain, such as Charlotte's Web. You may also want to try other cannabis products with even higher CBD ratios. There are many tinctures and edibles that start around 4:1 and go up to 20:1 CBD to THC. Throughout the whole process, it may be a good idea to keep a written log of the strain and ratio you try, the dose, and how it affected your migraines.\n\namanda","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11015-markdown","title":"I was curious about CBD being a cure for migraines. An appropriately high dosage of CBD will give you all the desired effects you need, and there is really no risk of overdose as CBD is harmless even in high concentrations. However, most people will feel little effect if they take too low a dosage, effectively wasting CBD’s powerful beneficial properties.\n\nWith the above in mind, the importance of correct CBD dosage becomes obvious. People with different requirements and different metabolisms will need accordingly different CBD dosages to experience CBD’s positive effects, and dosages can vary dramatically because there is no one-size-fits-all “typical CBD dosage.” While there is no such thing as “too much CBD,” you can in fact take too little to feel a difference.\n\nDosage can range anywhere from 2mg to 3mg, up to 100mg or even 200mg on the super-high end.
