It is generally accepted that a 20:1 ratio is a good starting point. Specific strains may have similar ratios, but your best option is to work with a dispensary to receive a product known to have these properties. \n\n\nNP Joshua\n_____________________\nThere is considerable evidence, both anecdotal and scientific, that cannabis can be helpful for patients with MS. The question of which cannabinoids are most helpful for which patients is far less easy to answer. Because of the excellent lack of toxicity associated with cannabis I would emphasize the safety of cautious experimentation to find what is most helpful for you. At a 20:1 CBD:THC ratio fairly large doses would be required to take a significant amount of THC, and I would suggest remembering that in your experiments you are varying the cannabinoid ratio AND the dose being taken. My MS patients have found more benefit from preparations with a higher proportion of THC, but there is no medical literature to go to for guidance on this issue. If you are using flower I would pay attention to the content of THC and CBD in that strain. I would be sure to include generous amounts of CBD in whatever cannabis preparations you are using.\n \n\ndrelkind","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9118-markdown","title":"I am seeking CBD treatment for a relative.","slug":"i-am-seeking-cbd-treatment-for-a-relative","content":"\"with MS, a lot of neurological damage causing psych issues, and PTSD.I was going to try the regimen that Dr. Sharon Olson suggested, 28:1, 5 drops, 4 times a day. Can anyone tell me or direct me to firsthand satisfaction they have had with this treatment for MS and neuropsych issues? Thank you\"\n_____________________\nHi there! I am not a Dr., and I don't have any personal experience in this, but while you're waiting for someone to share their experience here, I encourage you to check this out: https://www.hellomd.com/search?term=multiple%20sclerosis\n\nYou can read different questions, answers, articles, and comments from patients, and doctors re: Multiple Sclerosis. Hopefully you'll be able to find some useful content there.\n\nmelissa\n_____________________\n I'd suggest trying more THC in the preparation if you are seeking effects on mood and \"neuropsych\" issues. This is achieved by increasing the dose or changing to a preparation with a greater concentration of THC. I have had positive results in MS patients using inhaled cannabis, particularly for moderation of mood, reduction of muscle spasm, and improved relaxation. These patients used THC dominant cannabis, although I would recommend the preparation include lots of CBD as this has an important moderating influence on THC effects. If you are employing a vape pen these preparations are available in a wide variety of CBD:THC ratios. There are also lots of orally absorbed and edible preparations available at different CBD:THC ratios. I suggest cautious experimentation rather than considering cannabis recommendations a prescription, as patients commonly report having tried a number of things before discovering what is helpful. \n\ndrelkind","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_9071-markdown","title":"What types of cannabis and ratios are people using for MS - Multiple Sclerosis? ","slug":"what-types-of-cannabis-and-ratios-are-people-using-for-ms-multiple-sclerosis","content":"\"Symptoms: bilateral running leg pain from hips to feet; urine retention (cathing 5-6 times/day); weakness and pain in legs (constant), fatigue.\"\n_____________________\nHi there! Please check out this previously answered question on the matter that also includes a link to an article on the subject:\n\nashleigh\n_____________________\nCannabis appears to provide many benefits for patients with MS. These benefits include reduction of spasticity, improvement of urinary symptoms, reduction of pain, improvement of mood. The medical literature is full of small studies that demonstrate these effects (https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=cannabis+multiple+sclerosis+study&hl=en&as_sdt=0&as_vis=1&oi=scholart&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwirhP_V6PPYAhVL2mMKHaIrBkgQgQMIJzAA), although the effects are not always profound. I believe THC is extremely important in producing these effects, and the presence of sufficient CBD is also important. I do not think there is yet clinical science supporting a particular ratio of CBD:THC, but 1:1 is probably a good place to start, varying the ratio and amount taken to discover what is most helpful. Many such preparations are available for inhalation or ingestion. I wish you great success in reducing the discomfort of your MS symptoms.\n\ndrelkind","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_8566-markdown","title":"What is the best type of cannabis for multiple sclerosis patients? ","slug":"what-is-the-best-type-of-cannabis-for-multiple-sclerosis-patients","content":"\" I need something that helps with pain, relaxation, appetite, and sleep. \"\n_____________________\nHi there,\n\nThere have been many promising studies done with Sativex, a 1:1 THC:CBD mouth spray, in MS patients that relate specifically to pain and spasticity. Here are some studies where it was used: \nhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22509985\nhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21456949\nhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26764336\n\nBased on these studies, finding a product with a 1:1 ratio may be good place to start. You can adjust dosings and ratios as you see fit. The general rule is always \"start low and go slow.\" Product-wise it would probably be easiest to find 1:1 ratios in tincture form, although there are some strains out there like Cannatonic and Canna-Tsu that usually have something close to a 1:1.\n\nI'd also encourage you to look for a 1:1 product that is full specturm to get the added benefits of terpenes. \n\nBest of luck! \n\nDanielle Lim \n_____________________\nHi! I'm not sure how I'm supposed to use it, can you help?\"\n_____________________\nMost often, you place the drops or spray under the tongue, and hold it there for a few minutes so it can be absorbed. Tinctures are formulated with some alcohol/ethanol, which helps the medicine to be absorbed, but can also cause a burning sensation so do not be surprised if that happens. Cannabis extracts in a tincture can be of different concentrations, so you will need to read the label or ask your dispensary staff to clarify how much CBD is in each drop, so that you know how many drops or sprays you should take. CBD lasts for a while, so most people take it twice or maybe 3 times a day.\n\ndrbultman\n_____________________\nRespira, our new multi-use hemp tincture, can be taken orally, topically or as a vape. Pt's have been able to titrate their dosage based on how much they're drinking and you don't get the not-so-great taste or burning sensation from the alcohol.
