So my question is how much CBD do I need to take to be equivalent to the 10mg of Vicodin. Also I'm interested in CBD drops. Thank you.\"\n_____________________\nIf your using Vicodin for pain, a 100% CBD product is most likely not going to work for you. You should use a product that has a combination of THC and CBD. If you use a product that has a 2:1 combination of CBD:THC the entourage effect might help with the pain as well as give you some anti-inflammatory effect. \nThere is no direct substitution equivalent between cannabis and narcotics since evy person reacts differently to cannabis. What may make one person completely pain free may not effect another. The best advise to go low and slow with the amount of cannanbis and how often you take it and see how it effects you.\n\nPerry Solomon, MD\n_____________________\nI agree with Dr. Solomon, a combination of both CBD and THC would probably be the best...we produce a High CBD tincture that is a ratio of 2.5 : 1, meaning there is 2 1/2 times more CBD than THC in the product. Try ingesting a raw THCA and CBDA tincture every 2-4 hours as you would take pain medication. Cannabis can be ingested to prevent and reverse inflammation by activation on the ECS. If the raw tincture isn't working for you, try an activated one, with THC and CBD. Make sure it is a whole-plant extraction and not an isolate. Whole plant extracts provide necessary terpenes and nutrients that act synergistically on your cells to provide a more efficient rate of protection.\n\nnixie","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7392-markdown","title":"I have painful bursitis.","slug":"i-have-painful-bursitis","content":"\"I have been taking a high CBD product for about a week that works ok. I also think that other topical analgesics might be useful like Arnica Gel, Tiger Balm, Icy Hot, etc.   Keep the joint moving (i.e. walking) when you can. ","slug":"whats-a-good-tincture-regimine-for-migraine-prevention","content":"\"I have near daily migraine with aura. My migraines are \"silent\", without headache but cause single sided neurological issues, nausea, jaw pain, numbness and tingling as well as a host of other odd neuro sensations. I'm looking for a way to prevent my migraines or reduce the frequency.\"\n_____________________\nCannabis treats the symptoms of migraines, it is not a cure. \nCannabis salve applied to the neck will typically stop migraines from immediately reoccurring as in the case of cluster migraines.\nIn order to prevent migraines it seems likely it is a combination of regular intake of CBD Cannabis as well as eliminating all the offending food substances and chemicals from your environment. You may want to do a search for the articles on our website, in the chat room, regarding migraines. Free glutamate's are neurologically toxic (this is not gluten), cigarette smoke, perfumes and many environmental chemicals are toxic to migraine sufferers as well as simple items like Parmesan, an aged cheese you might have on a pizza.\nCannabis tincture works because there is some evidence that CBD protects the brain from neurotoxins and the damage they cause.\nConsider doing high CBD tincture, 2 to 3 doses per day and I believe you will notice a difference in about a month with the reduction of the severity and frequency of your migraines but you must eliminate the exposure to Neurotoxins. Once your migraines are under control you may reduce your CBD intake to see what the minimum doses that will still control your migraines but please don't add in the neurotoxins.\n\ndrolson\n_____________________\nI have constant migraines. Topical application of cannabis is rarely absorbed systemically except if you are doing the high THC patch, then you are likely going to experience the psychoactive effects of the THC. You may want to add CBD, either orally or vaporized to reduce any inflammation since that is also what contributes to pain with the herniated disc.\nYou do not necessarily need to have a herniated disc operated especially if we stop the inflammation,  eventually the herniation will calcify. If the herniation interferes with your bladder or bowel control that requires medical valuation immediately.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7366-markdown","title":"What is the most effective strain of cannabis for severe back pain? Do edibles work for back pain?","slug":"what-is-the-most-effective-strain-of-cannabis-for-severe-back-pain-do-edibles-work-for-back-pain","content":"\n_____________________\nMany varieties of cannabis are helpful for pain. Indica strains generally are more suited to treat pain, while sativas have more cerebral effects. CBD is a compound found in certain strains of cannabis that provide anti-inflammatory effects without psychoactive effects.  You might try a sublingual tincture with CBD, THC and the other naturally occuring compounds in cannabis. Topically applied cannabis can provide more localized relief and inhaled cannabis provides immediate relief.\n\nandrewvanmd\n_____________________\nRelief of back pain is a common reason patients try medicinal cannabis.  Severe back pain, the kind making it impossible to carry out daily activities, becomes a more difficult treatment problem when it is chronic because the usual treatments for acute severe back pain, like opioids, cannot effectively manage chronic back pain, and can even become harmful because of tolerance and dependence. One clinically well demonstrated effect of cannabis is to enhance the pain relieving effects of opioids, which allows patients to reduce the opioid dose needed to control their back pain.  Since chronic pain also involves the mind and emotions, medicinal cannabis can also be helpful for patients with chronic back pain by moderating mood and relaxing muscles, and for some patients these effects are sufficient to be able to manage their back pain without using any pharmaceuticals.  Always be cautious taking cannabis with opioids as their additive effects may cause transient dizziness, nausea, or sedation.  Although unpleasant, these subside quickly and require no treatment other than lying down in a quiet room.  Some patients with chronic back pain have reported topical cannabis preparations are helpful, and I'd certainly give that a try, but for many patients it's a matter of trying different varieties of cannabis and various CBD:THC ratios to find what helps them the most.   Edibles may also be effective, but while inhaled cannabis gives immediate effects edibles can take up to an hour.\n\ndrelkind\n_____________________\nHello. Have a look at the article (linked below), which goes over top cannabis strains reported as being effective in alleviating severe back pain. A few of those marijuana strains include Headband and OG Kush, both of which are high in THC, and ACDC, which is high in CBD. As well, we have an article on marijuana-infused topicals that can help with back pain:   \nhttps://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/589b56e47a547a0008f2c9ce/the-top-3-cannabis-topicals-for-back-pain -- my partner who's been suffering from severe back pain due to a bulging disc these past few months has found some relief using topicals. The ones he likes are Farmaceuticals CBD therapy balm and Papa & Barkley 1:3 THC:CBD Releaf Balm. And finally, here's an article, which touches on what Dr. Elkind talks about--that medical marijuana can reduce the use of opioid painkillers in those suffering from chronic or severe back pain: https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55959af73065300006100000/medical-marijuana-may-reduce-opioid-use-for-back-pain-sufferers. Regarding edibles, these may be a good option for chronic pain sufferers who want longer-lasting relief, as edibles' effects typically last between 6-8 hours. However, it really comes down to experimenting both with the delivery method of cannabis as well as specific doses, strains and products to see what works best in easing your severe back pain--perhaps a combination of doses & delivery methods will be ideal, but trial and error is required. Best of luck.\n\n\nlyp\n_____________________\nActually, I do not think there is one most effective strain of cannabis for back pain and I usually do not recommend an edible for this situation unless it is a low sugar CBD edible. Since I am an Osteopathic physician and I have treated structure pain for 35 years, I agree with the other responses but would like to add that it is important to know what is causing your back pain so it can be treated appropriately. If you are smoking cigarettes, stop, because you are deteriorating your spine at an alarming rate. If you are unhappy in life, your back will likely hurt more but you can start to look for positives in your life and use your CBDs because I believe CBD will make you fall in love with yourself and you will take better care of yourself. You should look into a movement class, like Rosen Method to help your body get moving again because this reduces your pain and if you use the topical 1:1 CBD:THC cream before and after class you experience greatly reduced pain. Posture and hydration is also important as well as your level of Vitamin D intake. An edible 1:1 like the chocolate covered blueberries should help you sleep well. Please, be aware, too much THC can increase your muscle spasms and sleep disturbance and you need to sleep well to restore your health. Back pain is a good thing to get rid of so you can live your life fully.\nBe well and treat your body well and it will respond.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7365-markdown","title":"I have Psoractic Arthritis and I want info on oil for my vape pen that will help control my pain","slug":"i-have-psoractic-arthritis-and-i-want-info-on-oil-for-my-vape-pen-that-will-help-control-my-pain","content":"\n_____________________\nVaporizing provides immediate relief and I would look for an indica or CBD rich variety. She suffers from anxiety due to the neck issues - opiates have nearly killed her so we're not going back there  - my main concern right now is there any issues with the interaction from the cannibis and the exeffor FYI - her current usage on the daytime cannibis is about a gram and a half and 1/2 a gram at night \nThanks\nMike\"\n_____________________\nYes, there are concerns for interaction between these two medicines. \nIncreased muscle spasm is one of the side effects that should be reported but I don't know if her pain and muscle spasm has increased since she started using the medication.\nHeadache is also listed as a side effect and she should talk with her doctor about this particular symptom.\nIncreased anxiety is another side effect that should be reported to the doctor.\nLow dose THC actually increases serotonin so she actually might do well with a little more THC in the evening, possibly a 1:1.\nIt could be quite likely that the Effexor dose needs to be reduced, she is at the max dose, but that should be left up to her treating physician.\nAs an osteopathic physician I can tell you the changes in the spine do not occur suddenly unless there's a very traumatic injury. Was this a traumatic injury that caused her neck deformity? If not, I would caution against trying to straighten the spine, you want a functional spine and is the straightening is occurring to rapidly it is very likely can increase her anxiety as a warning system.\nIt does sound like it's time to go back and visit her managing physician to possibly have her medication level reduced.\n\ndrolson","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":360,"numPages":54,"currentPage":31,"id":5599,"name":"Pain","slug":"pain","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
