I just tried a tincture that has a higher THC in the evening and it made me feel awful. I will try a lower dose tonight, I used the full dose my first time. Thank you \"\n_____________________\nWith all respect to Dr. Olson, I've seen this following syndrome in my practice called Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome. Here is a helpful article you can look at and also bring to your own MD. The authors of this very well made article suggest against abrupt discontinuation of SSRI, SNRI's and other anti-depressants. I want to stress that this has just been in my practice and Dr.Olson also probably has just as much if not more experience than I in this matter. I offer this article humbly:\nhttp://www.aafp.org/afp/2006/0801/p449.html\n\ndrpark\n_____________________\nYou might be having SSRI (Celexa) withdraw symptoms. I could happen if you were on a high dose or even a mild dose. If a mild dose you might want to try waiting it out a day or two more and see how you do. If you were on a higher does or can not tolerate the withdraw symptoms, you might want to restart your Celexa. Restart at half the dose you were on. After a few days, or when you feel better, you might want to try again to taper off the Celexa. this time try cutting back on the dose by 50% each week (4-6 days). If you continue to feel ok, keep cutting back on the dose until you are off. If the withdrawal symptoms develop again, go back up on the dose you were on that didn't give you withdrawal symptoms and try again this time tapering the dose ever 2 weeks. The same issue can happen with the Klonopin. If so, try the same slow taper as mentioned above.\n\ndrpinto\n_____________________\nI have successfully removed many patients from SSRIs but the benzodiazepines are a whole other story. I usually encourage patients to be on high-dose CBD (~28:1) twice a day (10-15 drops twice daily) for one month before you start to withdraw from your either medications. SSRIs you can typically abruptly discontinue but save all your leftover pills because in about 4 to 5 days your body will want more SSRI medication, so give it a pill, if you need another pill the next day you can do that also but then try to stay off the medication for approximately a week, your body will scream for more and that's when you give it one or two pills but you will notice this is a sub therapeutic dose so your body will be tapering off at this point and it typically only takes a few weeks for you to be off the SSRI completely.\nBenzodiazepines should never abruptly be discontinued because they cause horrendous side effects.\nBenzodiazepine should be reduced by one dose per month. Please don't try to discontinue the benzodiazepines any quicker than that or you could cause more depression. You will eventually be off the benzodiazepines. You must be very careful with your THC intake because if you go high on THC you will increase your anxiety. Until you are well stabilized off the benzodiazepines you must concentrate mostly on high CBD Cannabis to keep your body calm but you don't get the full effect of CBD cannabis for approximately 3 to 4 weeks. Since you are prone to anxiety and depression, You legally can carry a high CBD/ low THC spray with you but when you are driving you must carry it in the back of the car like an open container of alcohol. If you feel anxious, one spray of the high CBD cannabis (8:1 to 18:1) should have a nice calming effect.\nMost people are vitamin D deficient and many doctors only measure the inactive form, 25-OHD, but they should also measure the active form that is excreted from the kidneys, 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D, since the inactive form maybe low but the active form maybe high and you don't want to overstress your kidneys. \nVitamin D is necessary for the human body to function normally because in the human body it is a hormone not a vitamin and hormones are necessary to create new healthy cells.\nIf the vitamin D blood level is low in your body, it negatively affects many systems, such as your muscles and blood pressure. With low levels of Vitamin D you may experience thyroid disease, chronic pain with muscle & joint aching, kidney stones & even calcified heart valves, high blood pressure, depression, osteoporosis, fibromyalgia, an increased risk of migraine headaches and even a significantly increased risk of breast cancer with a greater risk for metastatic disease and death. \nThe laboratory ‘normal’ for Vitamin D3 is 30-100 (30ng/mL is rickets level) but for optimum health the blood level must be 55-100. Do you want to be just ‘normal’ or would you like to go for optimum?\nThe kidney clearance function for Vitamin D must be monitored so the larger amounts of Vitamin D are not overwhelming the ability to clear any excess Vitamin D from the system and this is the level of the active form of Vitamin D. \nFor a healthy patient with normal kidney function and vitamin D deficiency, I recommend a large dose (called a bolus) of vitamin D3, approximately 40,000 international units to be given with food one time per week plus 5000 International units of vitamin D3 per day, repeating the sequence for up to four weeks and then do a repeat blood level. For accuracy do not take your vitamin D right before the blood test and do not do the bolus the day before or the day of the blood test. You should notice a significant sense of well-being once your blood level of vitamin D3 is above 55 ng/mL but there is no benefit in going above 100 ng/mL.\nIn order to sleep as you're going off your other medications, please be aware that you may need to keep your CBD: THC ratio in a 2:1 balance in order to sleep without anxiety, so if you have had more THC in the evening you may need to take a higher dose of CBD to balance the ratio of CBD to THC.\nI know this all sounds technical and it sort of is but you can do this because I've had great success with other patients and if you still have questions you can always send your questions and we will give you an answer.\nIf you do have further questions, please don't send those questions as a response to this posting since the posting will only allow us to answer one time, then you must submit a new question.\nGood luck, this may go a little slow but it is well worth the journey to get you away from dangerous, addictive Western pharmaceutical drugs.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11260-markdown","title":"I type constantly for my job and it is starting to cause me a lot of pain.","slug":"i-type-constantly-for-my-job-and-it-is-starting-to-cause-me-a-lot-of-pain","content":"\"Both my wrists and the top of my hand experience pain and stiffness. You may not feel the full effect of CBD for up to three weeks but it is working to stop the inflammatory disease and you should get some pain relief right away. Many people are taking too much THC in the evening and have trouble sleeping because it over stimulates the brain but the trick is to add enough CBD cannabis tincture under the tongue to bring your THC: CBD ratio to 1:1 or 1:2, to go to sleep. I think it's also greatly beneficial to rub your neck and shoulder area with CBD/THC salve or balm twice daily to stop the pain because it will block the signals from going to the brain for 4-6 hours, so you should sleep well.\nFor most patients high CBD/ low THC is more economically administered by using tincture since you pay by the dose, or by the drop for CBD, so you want to use the most effective concentration and the lease number of drops to get the job done. Unfortunately if you do not keep your shoulder mobile it can freeze so hopefully you have taken some physical therapy classes in how to mobilize your shoulder.\nUsing the cannabis should help you get well but again, CBD is the medicine and THC is a little more the party drug.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11246-markdown","title":"I have acute flare up of a chronic jaw bone infection. I always encourage my patents to put heat on the are because localized heat will alert your immune system to, \"come here, and clean up this infection\" and that is why the body will have heat around an infection, it is an internal communication. The body is a fine tuned machine and it must have the nutrients to support doing the right think to get healthy. Anything fit the bill? Thanks!\"\n_____________________\nYou likely will get great results with CBD cannabis in both an oral tincture and a topical CBD/THC salve. The topical salve is not absorbed systemically and it is not psychoactive. As long as you are doing a high CBD/ low THC tincture, preferably in MCT oil, twice daily, you should obtain great results but it could take up to three weeks to feel the full effect of the CBD tincture so don't give up.\nIn addition, I highly recommend you take a yoga class because it's likely your posture that is creating the problems. Lift your chest, push your breasts forward, shoulders back and lift from the crown of your head to take the strain off C5-C6 since the pain is likely originating in your neck from your posture. Please, be sure you take adequate amounts of vitamin D3 to support healthy bones but do not take calcium supplement, eat greens in your diet or blend them and drink them. Once you correct your posture for 10 minutes, you likely will receive immediate relief. Since it is not legal to drive a car under the influence, nor is it legal to go to work high, you should stick with the high CBD/low THC cannabis before work. It is legal to carry a high CBD/low THC tincture, above 8:1, CBD/THC with you but you must carry it in the back of the car like an open container of alcohol, and you must be very discreet about using it during daytime hours if you are at work. Some jobs you absolutely cannot even have it in your car, such as a teacher in California who submits to having their car search during work hours and could be terminated for having any cannabis with them. CBD will not make you high or impair your function.\nKeep in mind that bones are growing tissue. If you chronically compress the bone on one side it will grow deformed and bulge the disc pressing on the neurological structures and creating more problems in the future. Now is the time to take preventive action. I have written several articles that involve the use of vitamin D for the bones and to stop pain so I would encourage you to look at other articles having to do with the spine or bone repair.\nGood luck! You can be happy, healthy, productive and out of pain and taking action now will help to give you assurance of a long healthy life, pain free.\n\ndrolson\n_____________________\nA great discreet topical is Sweet Releaf Extra Strength - it can be rubbed anywhere with pain for muscle relaxation and pain relief for sore wrists, etc. It is great for daytime use because it is not psychoactive - meaning you will not feel \"high\". It also has a mild, cannabis-free scent. Flour Child Relief Balm and Elevate Lotion Bars are also fantastic and discreet. At home before bed you may want to experiment with cannabis epsom salt baths to help your muscles fully relax before bed. After the bath you can also apply a cannabis topical and/or try an indica strain of flower to help you fully relax and sleep well - this is to be used at home before bed so your muscles can relax while you sleep, not during the day. Taking breaks to stretch during the day is also important, and checking that your posture at your computer is ergonomic - if the posture you have at your desk is not ergonomic, cannabis will provide relief, but the discomfort will not go away. A lot of people also find relief from using a foam roller to stretch the back, leg, and hip muscles - all of which are affected from long periods of sitting and can cause tightness to ripple up the body. This would be a great addition to a night time post bath/pre-bed ritual and again in the morning and there are many videos available online with foam rolling routines/techniques.\n\namanda\n_____________________\nI second Sweet Releaf! What type of pain are you experiencing? What cannabinoids have you been using in the past? As a general rule as an MD, I always have some healthy skepticism is any item is touted as \"miraculous\". Please refer to some of my past posts/ answers. What I am personally telling patients is that cannabinoid profiles are extremely personal and one has to try different items to optimize symptom mgmt.. This philosophy of trying different products also has another advantage in that it prevents physiologic tolerance to any specific cannabinoid. When it comes to pain mgmt, what I have been taught years ago still applies; it is always better if one has a multi-modal response and treatment plan to the pain, regardless if it's Lumbago (lower back pain) or jt pain or fibromyalgia. Please continue to discuss these issues with your MD. And please write back if you have any further questions!\n\ndrpark\n_____________________\nThe big issues THCA is known to tackle are inflammation and nausea/vomiting. Consumed directly as THCA, with no heat, excessive exposure to light or oxygen, the compound will cause no psychoactive high.\n\nThe big ticket item for THCA right now is inflammation. Brands like Sweet Releaf are using THCA as a significant percentage of their formula to combat pain and swelling. \n\nYou will find a cannabist, from time to time, who swear by one thing or another, however we are lucky that one plant can produce them all and that we can draw from multiple sources to combat our issues. We dont have to get caught in a binary decision here. The real future of cannabis is to use both THCA and CBD to combat inflammation together!\n\nryan\n_____________________\nYes whole plant cannabis preparations seem to be more useful than individual isolated cannabinoids. THCA has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties.\n\nandrewvanmd\n_____________________\nTHCa is the nonpsychoactive precursor to THC. When dried and/or heated, it decarboxylates into THC. You will most likely find higher levels of it in fresh flower. I don't believe enough is known about it to say that it is better than CBD for treating pain. A patient's response to cannabis is very individual and what might benefit one patient might not be the treatment of choice for another. In fact, there are some patients who, for genetic reasons, just do not respond to CBD. There is some excitement, however, about THCa with regard to the treatment of intractable seizures. To date, I have personal knowledge of one pediatric patient whose seizures did not respond at all to CBD but completely resolved with THCa.\n\ndrfrye\n_____________________\nΔ9-THCA is the biological precursor to Δ9-THC, the primary active constituent responsible for the psychoactive and medicinal properties of marijuana. However, Δ9-THCA itself is not psychoactive. During drying or under intense heat, Δ9-THCA is decarboxylated to form Δ9-THC (Starks, 1977).\n\nΔ9-THCA possesses anti-inflammatory and anti-neurodegenerative properties. Δ9-THCA inhibits cyclooxygenase 1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), in human colon cell cultures (Ruhaak et. al., 2011). COX-1 and COX-2 are both enzymes involved in inflammation. Δ9-THCA has also been shown to decrease the amount of oxidative stress caused by mitochondrial impairment, a major mechanism in neural degeneration, in mouse mesencephalic cell cultures (Moldzio et al., 2012).\n\ndrpinto\n_____________________\nThere isn't alot of literature available about THCA, but what is known is that it has a very strong anti-inflammatory effect and since inflammatory conditions are often very painful, reducing the inflammation will also reduce the pain. We have had numerous patients report that topical cream used directly on the painful condition (like swelling, gout, diabetic leg pain, bruises or sprains) can bring down the swelling and reduce the pain at the same time.\n\nTHCA combined with THC in a topical cream helps patients avoid the psychoactive side effects felt when smoking or eating THC. Depending on what condition you are trying to treat, topicals may or may not be appropriate, meaning deep internal pain won't be reached as easily with topicals as conditions closer to the skin, like bruising or arthritic hands or swollen ankles to name a few. It is always worth a try to see what actually works for the condition you are treating.\n\ndidi\n_____________________\nSo, let's talk about what it is you purchased, because this is a relatively new product to the market. THC-A crystalline is from the hash family and it is about 99.9% THCA in terms of purity. This makes it the strongest form of THC on the market today, for better or worse. In other words this is one of the purest states in crystal form. Some claim that it is this pure form that allows the seriously ill to find relief from debilitating illnesses and severe chronic pain.\n\nBefore THC becomes THC it starts out as THC-A. THC-A only becomes psychoactive once it is heated and it converts to psychoactive THC. This pure crystalline form of THC-A does not contain terpenes or other cannabinoid profiles known for the plant itself. Some choose to add a dab with a high terpene profile or a 'high terpene extract' to add to the overall effect.\n\nTo use your THC-A you would vaporize as you would with a wax or a concentrate. When you vaporize, it would create a very intense high, as it is 99.9% THC. For heavy consumers, this may work for them but for an average or moderate consumer this would be a very intense and possibly uncomfortable experience. Some say that it provides a very intense yet 'clear feeling' experience. \n\nTo answer your question, you can ingest your THCA orally. Again, because it has not been heated you are ingesting pure THCA which is not psychoactive. It will not impair you mentally. How you go about doing this and the dose, I would suggest you contact Guild Extracts as they are the main producers of this product and can offer guidance.\n\nThe other alternative is CBD Crystalline which is a non psychoactive cannabinoid. As there is not THCA in this even when vaped it would not be psychoactive.\n\nI hope this helps!\n\npamelahadfield\n_____________________\nIn addition to being non-psychoactive, the acidic form of THC and CBD may offer enhanced anti-inflammatory, anti-seizure, anti-spasmodic, and anti-prolific properties. For most patients, the whole point of using THCa is to reap the medicinal benefits of THC without getting stoned. Heating it mitigates all that. It doesn't seem to make sense to pay for the extraction of THCa, then to heat it when you can just use THC. To use THCa, merely place a very small amount (grain of rice) under your tongue and let it dissolve. Hold it there for 80 seconds, then swallow. You will then be able to benefit from it's medicinal properties without mental impairment. Increase in small increments (one grain of rice at a time) as needed to achieve the pain relieving response you are looking for. You can also juice raw cannabis and benefit from it's THCa content. Also keep in mind that CBD and THC are more effective when working together at treating pain than either one alone. You might consider using the two cannabinoids (CBD or CBDa and THCa) at the same time.\n\ndrfrye\n_____________________\nTHCA is showing a lot of promise for peripheral neuropathy.
