Will marijuana help me sleep?\"**\n\nLisa A.\n\n----------------------\n\nI tried all kinds of high-THC, high-CBD, or even high-CBN edibles, vapes, and flower strains, but I noticed slight issues with each. One would make me anxious and make sleeping hard, another left me feeling worn out in the mornings, and another simply wasn't helping me sleep at all. I went through this phase of experimentation for about a month until I found [Wana Optimals Fast Asleep gummies](https://www.wanabrands.com/products/gummies/optimals/optimals-fast-asleep-rec). \n\n![Hello1-min (8).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello1_min_8_5684169bc2.png)\n\nWana's Fast Asleep gummies were designed specifically to help with sleep. They contain a mix of cannabinoids as well as melatonin and [sleep-inducing terpenes]( https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-terpenes-pack-a-therapeutic-punch). Some of my favorite things about these gummies are the fast onset (typically about ten minutes) and that it does not leave me drowsy the following day. \n\nWana didn't call these gummies \"fast asleep\" for nothing. They literally make my eyelids heavy within 10 minutes, and I'm usually fast asleep within 20 minutes. The best part is that I don't wake up in the middle of the night – I sleep soundly and wake up refreshed. \n\nYou can find where to purchase Wana Optimals Fast Asleep gummies on [Weedmaps](https://weedmaps.com/brands/wana-edibles/products/wana-edibles-fast-asleep) or at retailers like [LivWell](https://livwell.com/order_ahead/wana-fast-asleep-gummies-20mg?sku=R1005100) for $23. \n\n Jeff L. \n\n-----------------\n\nIt's great that you're considering cannabis as a natural sleep aid. [Common side effects](https://www.webmd.com/sleep-disorders/understanding-the-side-effects-of-sleeping-pills) of prescription medication such as Ambien, Halcion, Lunesta, Rozerem, and Sonata include:\n- Burning or tingling in the hands, arms, feet, or legs\n- Changes in appetite\n- Constipation\n- Diarrhea\n- Balance problems\n- Dizziness\n\n![Untitled52-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled52_min_f2551d1a79.png)\n\nBased on my experience, I recommend trying marijuana as a more natural way to fall and stay asleep. Here are some of my tips:\n\n- Not every cannabis product is created equal – certain types of marijuana products are more helpful for sleep than others (some might keep you awake).\n- Experiment with different product types, strains, and consumption methods before making any hard decisions. \n- Be cautious with dosage. Start low and go slow.\n\nRachel C.\n\n------------------\n\nIt may feel like a lot at first, but I'm hopeful that my experience with cannabis can help. I was struggling in a very similar way. I would lay awake most nights after very long days and still find my mind racing. I knew with certainty that sleep wasn't going to come easy most nights, leading to higher stress levels, lower productivity, and increased anxiety. \n\n![Cannabinoids and terpenes help with sleep](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_04_18_at_2_39_29_PM_524142971a.png)\n\nCannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid in marijuana. This cannabinoid can help relieve pain, [anxiety](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/understanding-how-cbd-can-calm-your-anxiety), and more. CBD also promotes a better night's sleep and one study found that it [increased sleep scores in 67% of adults](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30624194/) post consumption. It's also thought that CBD [helps with the release of cortisol](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6326553/pdf/18-041.pdf), which acts as a sedative in consumers. \n \n![Cannabis can help some people fall asleep better](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_04_18_at_2_42_03_PM_a8a0054228.png)\n\nCannabidinol (CBN) is another cannabinoid that is known to help relieve stress and anxiety, which can lead to a better night’s rest. [According to Ari Mackler](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ajherrington/2021/03/17/can-cannabis-help-you-get-a-good-nights-sleep/?sh=58d8bc0f106b), the chief scientific officer for Plus Brands, \"CBN appears to interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, which in turn, can affect the function of many hormones and neurotransmitters that are involved with mood, energy, and sleep.\"\n\nTetrahydrocannabinol (THC) helps to amplify the effects of CBD and CBN. When all three cannabinoids are combined, they can significantly impact a person's ability to sleep – promoting long-lasting sleep. \n\nLastly, CBG is within this formulation, which is known to help relieve pain and inflammation. Often, physical tension or discomfort can cut sleep short, so this cannabinoid is a great addition to the mix. \n\n![Cannabis can help some people fall asleep better](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_04_18_at_2_40_40_PM_2a017f489f.png)\n\nThe best cannabis products for sleep aren't focused on a single cannabinoid – instead, they use the most sleep-inducing cannabinoids together to create an optimal sleep-enhancing weed product. \n\nPaul R.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5037593984962405,"src":"/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/ee604/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.png","srcSet":"/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/69585/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.png 200w,\n/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/497c6/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.png 400w,\n/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/ee604/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.png 800w,\n/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/f3583/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.png 1200w","srcWebp":"/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/58556/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/61e93/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.webp 200w,\n/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/1f5c5/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.webp 400w,\n/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/58556/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.webp 800w,\n/static/245eb87267ab451c86bc6941100398bc/99238/37b323f97947404467cb8e9a4c768a36.webp 1200w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12672-markdown","title":"What's the best marijuana to help me sleep?","slug":"whats-the-best-marijuana-to-help-me-sleep","content":"**\"*I've heard that marijuana can be useful for sleep, but I'm unsure what kind of products/strains to try out. Are there any specific marijuana products for sleep?*\"**\n\nCole J.\n\n---------\nConsuming cannabis for a better night's sleep is trending, but achieving success comes down to finding the right product for you. There are so many options in dispensaries these days it can seem overwhelming. \n\nWeed is still being studied for its impact on sleep, but much of the research is promising. The [Community for Sleep-Care Professionals](https://www.aastweb.org/blog/medical-marijuanas-effect-on-sleep) says, \"*It is a universally acknowledged truth that marijuana can make you sleepy*.\" I concur with this statement!\n\nSpecific cannabinoids within marijuana are linked to a better night's sleep. \n\n[CBN](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/beyond-thc-and-cbd-what-you-need-to-know-about-cbc-cbn-and-cbg) is a newly popular cannabinoid and is often found in marijuana-infused sleep aids. Some studies have shown that CBN relieves stress and anxiety, which often get in the way of a good night’s rest. \n\n[CBG](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cbg-is-this-cannabinoid-more-powerful-than-cbd) is a little-known cannabinoid which is known to help relieve pain and inflammation.\n\n[CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/what-is-cbd-and-how-can-it-help-me) has also shown to have a modulating effect on your [endocannabinoid system (ECS)](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/what-is-the-endocannabinoid-system) and may help to establish more regular sleeping patterns. \n\n[THC](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/thc), the psychoactive component within weed, can also help you get to and stay asleep. However, with THC, you'll need to be cautious and not take too much - doing so can disturb REM sleep and keep you awake! Often, lower-dose THC cannabis products are more effective for getting and staying asleep.\n\nBut the primary problem many people have when using cannabis for better sleep is finding the right products. Here are two of my personal favorites: \n\n![Hello1-min (37).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello1_min_37_77669051e9.png)\n\n[Dosist's Sleep Vape Pen](https://dosist.com/formula-detail/sleep) has been a favorite of mine for years. This vape pen is unique - as you inhale, it vibrates when you have consumed a full dose. For me, the understanding dosage is important, as I don't want to overdo it before going to bed. With an 8:1 ratio of THC to CBD, it is fast-acting and helps me to relax almost immediately.\n\n![Hello1-min (8).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello1_min_8_5684169bc2.png)\n\n[Wana Optimals Fast Asleep](https://www.wanabrands.com/products/gummies/optimals/optimals-fast-asleep-rec) gummies are another great option. A fast-acting edible like this will help you get to sleep quickly. I had issues with restlessness when I slept until I started taking these low-dose THC gummies at night. Optimals has a unique blend of cannabinoids, including THC, CBG, CBD, and CBN, plus melatonin.\n\nBefore bed, I take one or two gummies, and within twenty minutes, I will often nod off. You can find where to purchase Wana's Fast Asleep gummies on [Weedmaps](https://weedmaps.com/brands/wana-edibles/products/wana-edibles-fast-asleep).\n\nJack F. \n\n-------------------\n\nI've been using marijuana to help me sleep for a few years now. It took a bit of experimentation to figure out what strains of cannabis were finally best for sleep, but I've found some that work great for me. \n \nTHC and CBD can both [support a better night's sleep](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15118485/). I've found the key to success is to look for strains that have a bit more THC but are known to be sedative. THC can be tricky, though, as you'll want to find the right dose for you. Often, people find that low doses of THC are best. It really depends on you.\n\nIf you are vaping or smoking, I'd recommend consuming it very close to when you plan on going to sleep. This method of consumption is fast-acting, and with the right strain, you will find your Zzzz's quickly.\n\nPersonally, there are a few weed strains that have worked wonders for me. I'll list a few below. \n\n![Hello2-min (35).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello2_min_35_b88d2f7e60.png)\n\n[Harlequin](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) is a great strain on sleep. Even though it's Sativa-dominant, it contains high levels of CBD and does not have a strong psychoactive effect. This strain is perfect for newer cannabis consumers. \n\n![Hello3-min (30).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello3_min_30_9e1a9155de.png)\n\nAnother favorite of mine is [Purple Urkle](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/purple-urkle). This strain has been around since the 1980s and is perfect for unwinding after a long day. This strain is your classic Indica and may induce serious couch-lock - which is a great thing if you need to get a better night's rest.\n\n![Hello4-min (28).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello4_min_28_c4ae9856b5.png)\n\nIf I had to pick one favorite strain (and it wouldn't be easy), I suppose I'd go with [Lavender](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/lavender). I thoroughly enjoy this strain, and it has an all-over body sedative effect on me. The smell is surprisingly similar to actual lavender, which I also enjoy. \n\nRegardless of the strain you choose, cannabis is known to help with sleep. Good luck!\n\nJohn W.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5037593984962405,"src":"/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/ee604/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.png","srcSet":"/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/69585/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.png 200w,\n/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/497c6/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.png 400w,\n/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/ee604/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.png 800w,\n/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/f3583/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.png 1200w","srcWebp":"/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/58556/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/61e93/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.webp 200w,\n/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/1f5c5/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.webp 400w,\n/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/58556/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.webp 800w,\n/static/026a24c399dfd927e4b2c7d1f7c949dc/99238/ec179819d8f51bfd242a9efa139b6861.webp 1200w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12671-markdown","title":"Can you sleep better with cannabis?","slug":"can-you-sleep-better-with-cannabis","content":"**\"I'm not a big cannabis user, but I have struggled to fall asleep and stay asleep lately. How cannabis affects you is highly individual, so it often may take a few tries to get the right product and dosage. One person may find that low doses of THC work, while someone else may respond better to a product high in CBD. [One study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6326553/) found that adults with anxiety-induced sleep problems had their sleep scores increase by over 66% after consuming cannabis with higher levels of CBD. \n\nThe key to cannabis as a sleep aid is finding the right product and balance of cannabinoids. ","slug":"best-medical-marijuana-strains-for-sleep","content":"***”I’ve been having issues falling and staying asleep recently, any recommendations for a strain to keep me asleep?”***\n\n Benjamin L. \n______________\n\n![Untitled52-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled52_min_f2551d1a79.png)\n\nFinding the best strain of marijuana to help ease your sleeping issues is based a lot on what the cause of your sleeping problems are. The causes of insomnia can be rooted in a variety of different psychiatric or medical conditions, unhealthy sleep habits or other biological factors. Sleeping problems can also be the result of engaging in late-night activities that cause spikes in adrenaline such as exercising, drinking coffee late in the late afternoon, watching TV, or eating in bed. It’s estimated that one in three people suffer from sleeping problems so you’re not alone. \n\nIf you’re suffering from sleeping issues due to pain, depression, stress or anxiety, marijuana can help. A 1973 study published in *Human Pharmacology* found that subjects had a [significant decrease in the amount of time it took them to fall asleep](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/BF00437513#%20page-1) when given [THC](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/thc/). Some strains of marijuana are better for easing insomnia caused by chronic pain whereas others are better at targeting anxiety-induced sleeping problems. \n\nRegular use of a high [CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/cbd/) cannabis product, or at least including some CBD to balance out the psychoactive effects of [THC](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/thc/), will be more helpful in bringing an end to sleepless nights. Cannabinol, also known as [CBN](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/cbn/), is a lesser-known cannabinoid but is five times more sedating than THC. \n\nDue to the fact that everyone has a unique biochemistry and [endocannabinoid system](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/what-is-the-endocannabinoid-system), cannabis will work differently from person to person. This means, like any other cannabis product, you’ll need to experiment with a few strains to see what works best for you in terms of which strains will put you to sleep. It is important to consider the correct balance between the levels of [THC and CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/accurate-dosing-with-cbd-and-thc), keeping in mind many strains have almost no CBD. \n\nCameron S. \n______________\n \nWhen it comes to using cannabis for sleep, the method of administration and ingestion is an important factor to consider. Edibles will take effect on your body much slower since they first need to be digested and then processed through the liver. This makes them effective at helping people stay asleep. In contrast, if you choose to vaporize or smoke cannabis, it will produce faster effects that can help you fall asleep more quickly. Here are some great strains to try out to help you get better sleep. \n\n![Untitled48-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled48_min_f6755d5c3a.png)\n\n[Harlequin](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/harlequin/) has a CBD to THC ratio that’s typically 5:2, it is enjoyed by both medical and recreational cannabis uses. It is a Sativa-dominant hybrid derived from cannabis landrace strains from Colombia, Thailand, Switzerland, and Nepal. The strain is best known for its ability to relieve pain, stress, anxiety, and depression. Harlequin is calming and helps people fall and stay asleep. It is particularly good for people who have anxiety-driven insomnia as it has little to no psychoactive. \n\n![Untitled49-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled49_min_997bc2ee2f.png)\n\n[Girl Scout Cookies](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/girl-scout-cookies/) is an Indica strain with 20% THC and 2% CBD. This strain is typically used to help with depression, it’s known for sedating, full-body relaxation effects, making it a good choice for those suffering from insomnia. Girl Scout Cookies is very potent so consumers are advised to take it slow as it can produce psychoactive effects if overconsumed. \n\n![Untitled50-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled50_min_6c8ed31750.png)\n\n[Afghani CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/afghani) is a landrace cannabis strain, a classic Indica when you’re looking to wind down at the end of the day. It’s a high CBD strain that’s known to be relaxing and therapeutic. This strain is also great for relieving chronic pain and reducing muscle spasms. Because Afghani CBD has high levels of CBD, it produces a nice calming effect that can help consumers fall asleep. \n\nGlenn T.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1,"src":"/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/97f33/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.png","srcSet":"/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/69585/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.png 200w,\n/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/497c6/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.png 400w,\n/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/97f33/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.png 483w","srcWebp":"/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/e4e06/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/61e93/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.webp 200w,\n/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/1f5c5/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.webp 400w,\n/static/a5bdc20cb9ce906c1dad20f1b242dc3f/e4e06/bd80a2a59096a6b2e4e12b978ceafa88.webp 483w","sizes":"(max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12572-markdown","title":"Can marijuana help me to sleep better? Having enough shut-eye gives us energy, keeps us focused and productive, boosts the immune system so we can fight off infections, and provides many other health benefits.\n\nA lack of sleep can have the opposite effect, leaving us dispirited and depressed, and susceptible to a wide range of physical and mental health problems.\n\n![The Kiva Petra Mint is an exceptional microdose and helps many people sleep better at night!](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_17_at_1_07_29_PM_e99402fbcb.png)\nThe Kiva Petra Mint is a popular low dose mint.\n\nThe stats bear out the size of the sleeping issue. [Up to 70 million people](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ajherrington/2021/03/17/can-cannabis-help-you-get-a-good-nights-sleep/?sh=21ed65f1106b) in this country are affected by sleep disorders, spending $70 billion a year on sleep aids, 65% of which goes to medications. Also, 30 to 35% of us suffer temporary symptoms of insomnia at one time or other, with it being a chronic condition in 10% of people.\n\nThe sleep problem has been made worse by the [pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic](https://www.forbes.com/sites/ajherrington/2021/12/31/marijuana-is-replacing-alcohol-for-nearly-half-of-cannabis-consumers-during-the-pandemic/?sh=633f22891fb6). A huge number of adults are turning from alcohol to weed to get a better sleep, as well deal with other conditions, such as stress, anxiety, and depression. \n\nCannabis may be used to address a number of sleep disorders, ranging from insomnia and sleep apnea to night terrors and circadian rhythm disorders. Anyone who has gone into slumber land or has experienced couchlock after consuming weed knows that the substance has a powerful potential for sleep.\n\nMarijuana works by triggering receptors in our endocannabinoid system (ECS), which help regulate hormones, immunity, pain, hunger, and (drum roll!) sleep. Weed cannabinoids that are known for inducing a good sleep include THC, CBD, and CBN. THC is known for its psychoactive effects and its ability to help with sleep. CBD is a non-psychoactive compound and may also work to make you sleep, though in some people it may spark wakefulness (it depends on how your body reacts to it).\n\n![Wana Brands gummies are a popular edible and can be used as a sleep aid.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_17_at_1_08_56_PM_6440bb1268.png)\nEdibles, like Wana Brand gummies, are often used as sleep aids.\n\nCBN is often associated with THC products that have aged over time, and may also serve as a sleep aid, though more research is required to prove this.\n\nTerpenes found in cannabis may also contribute to better sleep, including beta-myrcene and limonene, which have calming effects, beta-caryophyllene for stress-reducing effects, and linalool for sedative and pain-relieving properties.\n\nSchererDelight\n\n---------------\n\nFinding out what works best for you may require some experimentation. You may want to try cannabis products with different levels of CBD, THC, or CBN. If you are just starting out, going low and slow is a good way to proceed.\n\nWith THC particularly it might be a good idea to start with a low dosage, 2mg for example, and go up from there, if you need it, to 10mg or even higher. Also try different brands and consumption methods, including smoking, vaping, edibles, gel caps, and others. Some cannabis brands specialize in sleep disorders, so seek these out.\n\nPManza\n\n--------------------------\n![Jetty Extracts has a variety of solventless products with live rosin.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_17_at_1_11_38_PM_4ae9aa5b5c.png)\nJetty Extracts has a variety of solventless products with live rosin.\n\nThrough our YouTube channel and article archive, [HelloMD](https://hellomd.com/) has provided a lot of information about how medical marijuana can help with sleep and good products to try if you are new to the field. Other research shows that marijuana cannabinoids tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) may also play a part in regulating the ECS, helping people to establish more regular sleeping patterns.\n\nThere is a [growing body of evidence](https://www.sleepfoundation.org/natural-sleep-aids/marijuana-for-sleep) to suggest that cannabis helps with conditions such as insomnia, though there is the question of whether it may be more beneficial for short-term use, whereas long-term use might actually cause problems with sleep.\n\n![Some cannabis products specifically target sleep - like the Dosist pen](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_29_19_PM_2051231cc9.png)\nThe Dosist pen 'Rest' targets sleep\n\n\nWith certain conditions, including chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), restless leg syndrome (RLS), and multiple sclerosis, cannabis may help people fall asleep faster, wake up less during the night, and enjoy better sleep quality overall. Other people report getting relief, and better sleep, when suffering from insomnia, anxiety, and pain.\n\nTHC typically works as a sedative, but it can be stimulating for some users, especially for those who are new to using cannabis or taking higher doses. In these cases, using marijuana before bed may result in a longer time of falling asleep. CBD appears to promote alertness at lower doses, and sleepiness at higher doses. \n\nOne study suggests that [CBD is more promising](https://hellomd.ca/articles/how-can-i-use-cannabis-to-ease-my-insomnia) as a treatment because even though THC may lessen sleep latency, long-term sleep patterns could be negatively affected.\n\nTHC improves sleep by reducing REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. REM sleep is associated with reducing dreams, which leads to better quality of sleep. However, REM sleep is a normal part of the body’s function and prolonged suppression could lead to serious sleeping problems.\n\nOn the other hand, decreasing REM sleep may provide some help for people with PTSD, because nightmares are a common symptom, so less dreaming is good. \n\n[CBD may also have fewer side effects](https://hellomd.ca/articles/medical-marijuana-could-help-insomniacs-sleep-better) for users than THC, since it’s not psychoactive and has no effects on the gastrointestinal system.\n\nRonnieC\n\n--------------\n\nIt’s also worth looking at the most common strains of cannabis: indica and sativa. Sativa tends to be more stimulating and people tend to use it for an energy boost. Indica tends to be more relaxing, promoting feelings of relaxation and sleepiness.\n\nSo many users suggest that indica is a better place to start looking for a sleep aid. But if you want to avoid nightmares, then sativa is worth exploring.\n\nUtopia Gilly\n\n-------------\n\nThere are studies that show that [CBD can work well](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/cbd-and-sleep#research) at high doses to promote sleep.\n\n![Sleep Synergy targets sleep with CBD and CBN](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_11_at_3_32_04_PM_657049cf0b.png)\n\nOne study worked on the basis that levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, usually hit their peak in the morning. However, those suffering from insomnia may have high cortisol levels at night, making them wake up. CBD was shown to reduce cortisol levels and help the study participants get better sleep.\n\nBasically, the best way to find out what will work best for you is to try different strains with different combinations of THC and CBD. Also try different methods of consumption, including smoking, vaping, pills, edibles, tinctures and so on.\n\nFor example, if you smoke or vape cannabis, you will find the onset (how fast it acts) is quick, but also ends quickly. With edibles, it takes longer for the cannabinoids to kick in, but the effects last longer — so these might be worth exploring by those who want a long night of sleep.\n\nJohnnyBgud\n\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5037593984962405,"src":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/14b42/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg","srcSet":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/f836f/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/2244e/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 400w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/14b42/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 800w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/47498/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 1200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/0e329/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 1600w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/93dd1/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.jpg 6240w","srcWebp":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/58556/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/61e93/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/1f5c5/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 400w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/58556/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 800w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/99238/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 1200w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/7c22d/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 1600w,\n/static/4e4f0806e175e97e5c3849d2c6426246/7e4f0/70428b9d7d95579148d4132f890ee088.webp 6240w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12551-markdown","title":"Which product(s) would you recommend for insomnia? I’ve developed insomnia in the last few years. Don’t like the usual sleep meds. Sometimes they don’t work, and sometimes they work too well and keep me dozy the next day. Weed works better but you have to find the right kind for you, which may take some experimenting. \n\nAs far as being groggy the next day, THC I think is the issue. If you have too much, it’ll knock you out at night ok but it makes you really out of it the next day. I think I’ve heard a lower percentage than 20% is good, but it depends on your tolerance. I love Kiva's Camino gummies and I eat one before bed and sleep through the night.\n\nHow you take it depends on your preference. You can smoke it but if you are worried about the health effects, then vaping, tinctures under the tongue, pills, oils, and even edibles might work. But with edibles, you’ve got to be careful because they take longer to work. It’s sometimes hard to time it right so you aren’t left tossing and turning before they kick in. Maybe if you take an edible an hour ahead of time, you might get close to dosing yourself at the right time.\n\nAs well you have a choice of strains for better sleep. I tend to like Indica strains and some hybrids since they mellow me out. Sativa tends to wind me up (though there might be something out there that works). I sometimes vape it, but I prefer tincture drops under the tongue or pills because they are easier for me as part of a regular bedtime routine.\n\nI hope that helps.\n\nLextext2\n\n--------------\n![Kikoko has great tea for sleep](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_11_30_at_6_31_26_PM_8a5ec845e5.png)\n\nGood question. Sleep disorders are a big issue in this country. The [American Sleep Association](https://www.sleepassociation.org/about-sleep/sleep-statistics/) points out that 50 to 70 million U.S. adults have a sleep disorder; almost 38% reported unintentionally falling asleep during the day at least once in the preceding month, and 4.7% reported nodding off or falling asleep while driving.\n\nIf you want to learn more about using cannabis to help with sleep issues, just drop the word “insomnia” into the HelloMD search box and you’ll find a lot of articles and advice on the subject, sometimes including product recommendations. For example, our article [“Top 5 Cannabis Products to Help You Stay Asleep”](https://hellomd.com/articles/top-5-cannabis-products-to-help-you-stay-asleep). Or if you like tea, Kioko’s cannabis-infused tea might do the trick; its tea bag is water-soluble, carries an exact dose, and uses only organic ingredients. [Kikoko’s Tranquili-Tea](https://kikoko.com/product/tranquili-tea/) contains 3 mg of THC and 5 mg of the non-psychoactive cannabinol CBN.\n\nFor my part, I like combining [cannabis terpenes and vitamins](https://hellomd.com/articles/3-combinations-of-terpenes-and-vitamins-to-beat-stress-insomnia-and-chronic-pain) to help with insomnia, as well as issues like stress and pain. Using linalool together with Vitamin D is one combo that may help you get better sleep, with no next-day grogginess at all.\n\nAlso, you may want to check out the HelloMD YouTube channel. You endure long, frustrating nights, often with your darkest thoughts, and then even longer days where you lack energy and have trouble focusing.\n\n![shutterstock_366276713-min.jpg](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/shutterstock_366276713_min_ed5d62e30a.jpg)\n\nEverybody has trouble sleeping now and then, but if it is a chronic condition it could be a sleep disorder such as [insomnia](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/12119-insomnia), where it is hard to nod off, to stay asleep if you manage it, and to get enough shut-eye to keep you healthy.\n\nSleeplessness can lead to health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and weight gain. You may feel fatigued and irritable during the day. You are not alone with your problem sleeping. Sleep disorders affect up to 70 million Americans every year. Insomnia symptoms are found in about 33% to 50% of the adult population, while chronic insomnia disorder is estimated to be about 10% to 15%.\n\nTraditional treatments for insomnia could be medications, such as various kinds of sleeping pills, and therapy, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia. But more and more people are looking to cannabis as an alternative to help them sleep, often to avoid the heavy side effects experienced with some traditional medications.\n\n[Some studies show](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis) that many people report falling asleep easier and more quickly after consuming marijuana. As well, cannabis can sometimes decrease episodes of sleep apnea, helping patients sleep more consistently throughout the night.\n\nBeing sleepless in Seattle — and everywhere else — has become such a common problem that more and more cannabis products specifically designed to help get much needed rest are hitting the market. For example, in the HelloMD article archive we have an [interview with Pianta Tinta](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-as-a-sleep-aid-for-insomnia-an-interview-with-pianta-tinta), whose company [Pianta Tinta Collective](https://www.piantacbd.com/) develops high CBD tinctures, oils and rubs that help with insomnia, as well as other conditions, such as chronic pain.\n\nSaid Tinta: “We recently produced a high THC tincture [[Romulan Super High THC Tincture](https://www.piantacbd.com/new-products?category=High+THC)] that we feel is particularly good at relieving insomnia. As we all know, insomnia can be difficult to overcome. Not everyone has insomnia for the same reasons. For instance, one person may not be sleeping because they have pain related to inflammation. If you bring the inflammation down with a high CBD product, they may be able to get a good night’s sleep every night. In other instances, a high THC tincture will help relax a person who struggles to get to sleep and also help them to stay asleep longer.”\n\nSleeplessness can be due to a variety of causes. So cannabis offers a number of [THC- and CBD-leaning solutions](https://hellomd.com/articles/the-10-best-marijuana-strains-for-insomnia) that can address different reasons for the problem.\n\nThree strains of cannabis that have a good track record of helping people to sleep better include:\n\n- Harlequin: This is a hybrid cannabis strain that is 75% sativa-dominant, and strong in CBD, with a CBD-to-THC ratio of 5:2. [Harlequin](https://hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) helps people to relax, and fall and stay asleep. Because it has minimal psychoactivity, it's good for people who suffer from anxiety-related insomnia.\n- Girl Scout Cookies: This is an indica strain with 20% THC and 2% CBD. It's known for its sedating, full-body relaxation effects, so it may be good for those suffering from insomnia. [Girl Scout Cookies](https://hellomd.com/strains/gsc) is a very potent strain, so go slow is good advice, since it can produce strong psychoactive effects.\n- White Widow: This is a balanced hybrid cannabis strain that is known to be more cerebral and relaxing while providing a well-balanced high. With about 20% THC and 2% CBD, [White Widow](https://hellomd.com/strains/white-widow) is often useful for insomnia associated with pain and depression).\n\nJack HMD\n\n\n---------------\nThe greatest marijuana strain to help you [sleep better](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis) depends a lot on what's causing your sleeplessness. Insomnia can be caused by a wide range of psychiatric or medical disorders, poor sleeping habits, or other biological factors. Acid reflux, hypertension, chronic pain, melancholy, stress, anxiety, or a recent traumatic event like the death of a loved one can all contribute to insomnia.\n\nInsomnia can also result from late-night activities that induce adrenaline spikes, such as working out after work. In addition, late-afternoon or evening caffeine consumption, as well as working, watching TV, or eating, can all contribute to insomnia.\n\nIf you can alleviate your insomnia by just changing your sleep routine, go ahead and make the changes. Marijuana, on the other hand, can aid if you're having trouble sleeping due to other concerns including pain, melancholy, stress, or anxiety. When patients were administered THC, they took significantly less time to fall asleep, according to a 1973 research published in Human Pharmacology. Meanwhile, a 1981 study found that giving patients with insomnia a 160 mg dose of CBD enhanced the length of time they could sleep compared to giving them a placebo.\n\nHere are four marijuana strains that are better at relieving insomnia caused by chronic pain, while others are better at relieving anxiety.\n\nHere are the strains I recommend:\n\n1. Harlequin\n[Harlequin](https://hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) is a hybrid cannabis strain that is 75 percent sativa-dominant. Harlequin is strong in CBD, with a CBD-to-THC ratio of 5:2. Pain, stress, anxiety, and sadness are all known to be relieved by this strain. Harlequin is a relaxing strain that helps people fall and stay asleep, despite its sativa dominance. Because it has little to no psychoactivity, it's very beneficial for persons who suffer from anxiety-related insomnia.\n\n2. Cookie Jar\nCookie Jar is a cross between White Fire Alien OG and Platinum Girl Scout Cookies. This marijuana strain can aid with anxiety and headaches, but it's most recognized for its overall relaxing effects. As a result, Cookie Jar is an excellent choice!\n\n3. Girl Scout Cookies\nGirl Scout Cookies is an indica strain that has 20% THC and 2% CBD. The most common strains are Sativa and Indica, with Indica being associated with producing a state of relaxation and promoter of sleep. New evidence is emerging that cannabis reduces time to fall asleep, shortens REM sleep, and lengthens time spent in deep sleep.\n\nIt is important to note that both Sativa and Indica strains exhibit different cannabinoid profiles and for symptom relief you may wish to consider basing your selection on the CBD to THC profiles. \n\n![Cannabis can help beat insomnia.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_12_25_at_11_55_30_AM_6077c29e25.png)\n\nTHC dominant strains are more likely to cause psychoactivity, though selected [for the treatment of pain or insomnia](https://hellomd.com/articles/finding-relief-from-insomnia-with-cannabis). CBD dominant strains have a much smaller amount of THC and are used by those sensitive to THC psychoactive effects. A balanced THC/CBD strain is often preferred given its efficacy for symptom relief with less psychoactivity. \n\nAdditionally, though THC produces a more pronounced sedative effect even in small doses compared to other cannabinoids, there may be value-add of CBD in sleep enhancement by treating symptoms associated with health conditions that affect one's ability to fall asleep. \nFor those new to cannabis, it is suggested to start with a low THC amount and slowing increasing the dose until maximal symptom improvement is achieved to avoid unwanted side effects.\n\n![Cannabis flower can help you sleep at night.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_12_25_at_11_56_31_AM_30b1188f1f.png)\n\nSome common strains that help people sleep are:\n\n- [Granddaddy Purple](https://hellomd.com/strains/granddaddy-purple)\n- [ACDC](https://hellomd.ca/strains/acdc)\n- [Purple Urkle](https://hellomd.com/strains/purple-urkle)\n- [Northern Lights](https://hellomd.com/strains/northern-lights)\n- [Bubba Kush](https://hellomd.com/strains/bubba-kush)\n\nI hope this helps and that you finally get a good night's sleep!\n\nCarling, NP\n_____________________\n\n![Sleep hygiene is important for getting a good night's sleep.](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2021_12_25_at_11_58_43_AM_3a9a0a1a6b.png)\n\nWhen it comes to sleep there are several things that need to be considered. What is your sleep hygiene like? Do you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep? Do you go to bed at a regular hour or does it vary? Do you limit screentime before bed? These are all factors that can affect our natural hormone cycle with regards to sleep.\n\n[Cannabis can help with sleep](https://hellomd.com/articles/dreaming-of-better-sleep-cannabis-may-help), but rather than focusing on a strain, consider more what the issue with your sleep is and the THC: CBD ratio of the product you wish to use.\n\nIf you have difficulty falling asleep, I would suggest vaporizing a higher THC (start 5-10%) product immediately before going to bed. If however staying asleep is the issue, you may consider a similar product in an oil or capsule form, so that the effect lasts throughout the night.\n\nPatricia L.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/2wBDABALDA4MChAODQ4SERATGCgaGBYWGDEjJR0oOjM9PDkzODdASFxOQERXRTc4UG1RV19iZ2hnPk1xeXBkeFxlZ2P/2wBDARESEhgVGC8aGi9jQjhCY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2NjY2P/wgARCAALABQDASIAAhEBAxEB/8QAGQAAAgMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIBAwQF/8QAFAEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAP/aAAwDAQACEAMQAAAB6sUOKaQ//8QAGhAAAwADAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAECAxIhMf/aAAgBAQABBQKK4r3knzGJI//EABQRAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABD/2gAIAQMBAT8BP//EABQRAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABD/2gAIAQIBAT8BP//EABcQAAMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABEBH/2gAIAQEABj8CG7k//8QAGhABAAIDAQAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAQARITFBUf/aAAgBAQABPyHzXHMwXUYqQTrjcEan/9oADAMBAAIAAwAAABDkL//EABcRAAMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABESH/2gAIAQMBAT8QuFR//8QAFxEAAwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAERIf/aAAgBAgEBPxCaRn//xAAbEAEAAwEAAwAAAAAAAAAAAAABABEhMVFhgf/aAAgBAQABPxCrKHchBFqz3IFbBfkRQg2RZ4+PcBgZ/9k=","aspectRatio":1.7699115044247788,"src":"/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/14b42/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg","srcSet":"/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/f836f/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg 200w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/2244e/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg 400w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/14b42/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg 800w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/47498/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg 1200w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/0e329/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg 1600w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/06818/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.jpg 5120w","srcWebp":"/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/58556/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/61e93/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp 200w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/1f5c5/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp 400w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/58556/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp 800w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/99238/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp 1200w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/7c22d/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp 1600w,\n/static/6a68019bc58c0c8fd98ce177894f59af/54217/6bf12a77bc062cde40ffee1ebeb6cdad.webp 5120w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Question_12381-markdown","title":"For the pills care by design 10mg cannabis soft gel .
