Here are two that I have tried: \n\nSensei chew's insomnia edible. It's a tootsie roll based edible and it also has some melatonin in it as well to help you nod off. \n\nAbsolute Extracts/Care by Design makes an indica spray that is good for reducing the time it takes to fall asleep. You just spray it into your mouth, leaving the spray for a while to let it absorb, and the effects take place in 20-40 minutes.\n\nryan\n_____________________\nThere are a number of product types that work well for sleep without having to smoke. Primarily, I'd suggest experimenting with tinctures and edibles. \n\nSome tinctures are specifically formulated for sleep, using indica strains combined with other herbs that promote relaxation and sleep. Putting a tincture under your tongue (taking it sublingually) will make the effects come on faster than swallowing it and having it pass through your digestive system. \n\nEdibles are also great, but can take longer to take effect - sometimes 45 minutes to an hour - so you'll need to plan accordingly. Again, there are many formulated specifically for sleep, but you don't necessarily need a sleep specific one. A small amount goes a long way, so start with only 1-3 mg of THC and see how it goes.\n\namanda\n_____________________\nAlthough not considered a stimulant, sugar and refined carbohydrates can interfere with sleep. Eating a diet high in sugar and refined carbohydrate and eating irregularly can cause a reaction in the body that triggers the “fight or flight” part of the nervous system, causing wakefulness. I would recommend getting some \"water eye drops\" and dropping them into your eyes after you smoke. That should help. \n\n\n\"THC lowers blood pressure, which in turn causes blood vessels and capillaries to dilate. The ocular capillaries dilate, which increases the flow of blood to the eyes and reduces intraocular pressure. I know it might not sound ideal as some symptoms may return if you are using cannabis medicinally but after about 2 weeks of not smoking the effects should return to what you are used to, and if you can abstain from using cannabis for 30-90 days then you might be surprised how little cannabis is takes to get you \"high\" and how long that effect will last.\n\nBartSmart","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7446-markdown","title":"Are there any recent studies that measure health impacts of vaporizing vs. smoking?","slug":"are-there-any-recent-studies-that-measure-health-impacts-of-vaporizing-vs-smoking","content":"\"Does vaping negatively impact lung health?\"\n_____________________\nThis is the most recent study on vaporization that we have been able to find. Combustion is the process when carcinogens and tar are released.  With vaporization, you slowly heat the flower or oil to a specific temperature where the cannabinoids go from a solid to a gas.  By inhaling vapor, you will reduce a lot of damage that smoking cannabis can do to your lungs. I'm worried about this.\"\n_____________________\nAbusing anything can cause adverse effects in any individual's life. It is for these reasons, amongst others, that I voted no on prop 64. \n\nCannabis, in and of itself, does not make you \"stupid,\" though an individual predisposed to developing maladaptive coping will find that things like cannabis, cause them to obsess and overindulge. All of a sudden, something that might otherwise be low in its potential risks, is now used to excess, causing all sorts of other issues while masking the ones that are present.\n\nIf cannabis didn’t exist, I imagine that those same individuals would find themselves at a bar each evening at 5pm, as opposed to the couch, where it sounds like they currently reside.\n\nryan\n_____________________\nPhysiologically speaking, I do not think it makes you stupid.  If over used, you may feel slower or more lethargic than you typically do but if you don't over use it, I don't believe it has adverse affects on your long term intelligence.  As a matter of fact, when used properly, cannabis can be used to enhance your thinking.  Cannabis is like any tool, it can be used effectively or it can be abused.  Each person need to take accountability for how it is affecting them and adjust their intake accordingly.\n\nseiboshen\n_____________________\nwhen high you may feel stupider as its a feeling you are not used to.\nif you abuse it like anything it can be too much. many profesionals my self included use it offten and are able to work fully funcioning lives and just see it as a method of relaxation. \n\nsure you could smoke your self into a stupid state, but within a couple days you shouldnt feel the side effects anymore.\n\ncanafun\n_____________________\nA great example of a cannabis user that has used cannabis as a positive tool to promote creativity and intelligence was the famed astrophysicist Carl Sagan. It was not until recently that his cannabis use had been publicized, mostly due to the negative stigmas associated with regular cannabis users. It is arguable that these negative stigmas in themselves are much more dangerous to the public's intelligence than cannabis.\n\norganic","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7387-markdown","title":"If you smoke while breastfeeding will it ever get into your breastmilk? Since Cannabis has an affinity for fat tissue it will be stored in the babies brain and fat tissue and is slowly metabolized out of the system. The baby only receives approximately 0.8% of the mother's dose of cannabis/kg and although the levels are still very low, If the mother is a chronic user the breastmilk could be up to eight times higher then the mother's blood level.\nThis is an area of cannabis that has receive very little research but with the increase in cannabis use and the strength of the cannabis it is an area that needs further research and long term follow-up since we have no idea House psychoactive drugs used in pregnancy and breast-feeding may affect the drive for psychoactive drug use in teenagers.\n\ndrolson","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7368-markdown","title":"Is testosterone breaking me out?","slug":"is-testosterone-breaking-me-out","content":"\"I am a female, age 25, and I smoke weed daily). I believe the testosterone is breaking me out, but I really do not want to quit (it helps with a number of issues) and I don't want to go back on the pill to regulate my hormones. Suggestions?\"\n_____________________\nAcne is a very common and frustrating skin condition for young adults and usually improves for most individuals between age 20-30. There are several physiologic processes that lead to acne including the way your body makes skin cells, produces protective oils, fights bacteria in your skin, and responds to skin irritants. A dysregulation in any of those processes can worsen acne. Hormonal changes that occur normally with age, menstrual cycles, or with stress can also affect those processes and worsen acne too.\n\nThe treatment of acne depends on the severity and whether or not you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. The four main medications are salicylic acid, topical retinoids, benzoyl peroxide, and topical antibiotics. Severe acne is treated with oral forms of these medications which carry significant risks and should be discussed with your doctor. \n\nMedications that regulate your hormones can also be used to treat acne if the methods above have not been effective. These medications include low dose oral estrogen/progesterone (also known as birth control or oral contraceptives) and spironolactone. Spironolactone essentially lowers effective testosterone levels but can also affect your blood pressure and electrolyte levels so needs to be monitored with blood tests at least once per year.\n\nFinally, there are very few studies suggesting that cannabis products may be helpful for the treatment of acne. Smoked cannabis is similar to tobacco smoke in terms of particulate matter and hydrocarbons, which are known to irritate skin. There are very preliminary studies, such as the one referenced below, that suggest topical cannabinoid (CBD) products may help with acne because of their anti-inflammatory effect; however, the topical products on the market are often oil-based since THC/CBD are fat soluble molecules. Oil-based products are great for eczema but tend to make acne worse. \n\nIn summary, there are no studies showing that cannabis-infused topicals are effective in treating acne and have more potential for harm than good based on the other substances that cannabis topicals often contain. My suggestion would be to discontinue daily smoked cannabis and use a vaporizer instead if you must consume that frequently. Most importantly, talk to your primary care doctor or dermatologist about the numerous safe and effective options that are already available on the market summarized above.\n\nhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25061872\n\nsankmd","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_7352-markdown","title":"I can't seem to get the same feeling from a vape pen as I do from smoking flowers - why? How can I find the right vape that will allow me to sleep like the flowers do at home?\"\n_____________________\nMy understanding is that the vape pens miss out on the terpenes and the terpenes affect the taste and smell as well as the effect of the Cannabis so this may account for the difference that you notice when you use a vape pen versus smoking flower.\n\ndrolson\n_____________________\n@DrOlson mentioned one of the main differences between cannabis flower and most vaporizers.  We use Essential Oils which are cocktails of terpenes, the directive elements of the cannabis flower that are often lost in favor of higher THC potency during extraction, to customize each of our vaporizers to create the feeling people want when they choose various types of cannabis.  For sleep, we primarily recommend our DEEP pen which blends Lavender, Chamomile and Orange essentials to create a relaxing and soothing experience, as well as our BALANCE or BALANCE+ vaporizers that have no psychoactive effect, but have been reported to act as sleep aids, as well as anti-inflammatories and general pain and stress relief.\n\nOne more thing to consider is that when you smoke flower, you're inhaling the burning plant matter (leaves, stems, etc.) which if it's being lit directly from a lighter (at temps up to 3,590℉) or smoldering (at temps up to 1,100℉) creates the smoke that is missing from vaporized cannabis.  Our vaporizers create heated air at a much lower temperature, only enough to activate the various cannabinoids and terpenes, and that process doesn't create any smoke from combustion like you experience with flower or tobacco. This smoke itself does likely impact the overall experience, but by all accounts it's a very unhealthy delivery system because of what it does to the lungs and the body over time.\n\nmichaelkatz","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":72,"numPages":15,"currentPage":7,"id":5754,"name":"Smoke","slug":"smoke","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
