Luckily, everyone who has gotten it has survived with conventional treatment, chemo, etc. That said, I am interested in preventative measures. I do not drink alcohol much, eat a very healthy diet and exercise regularly. My use of CBD has been successful in reducing overall body inflammation and the amount of migraines I get. Could it also inhibit breast cancer if I use it regularly for a long period of time?\"\n_____________________\nYou are doing all the right things to minimize your preventable risk of breast cancer in the face of the heritable risk you have locked in your genes. In August of 2015, for the first time in history, the National Cancer Institute-a Federal Governnent Agency- documented on it's website that evidence based science supports the role of CBD in killing and inhibiting breast cancer cells in vitro-with and without markers!\n     The unique cannabinoid Cannabidiol has antiproliferative, immune modulating and anti inflammatory benefits that are in theory, ideal for breast cancer prophylaxis. Research is needed to develope population based guidelines on dosing and methodology for breast cancer prevention.\n     I encourage patients to recognize that while CBD is not psychoactive, it does cross the blood brain barrier and can be very sedating. A simple and cost effective approach that makes common sense, given the lack of well defined clinical guidelines, is to find a pure unadulterated CBD extract from a source like industrial grade hemp and use it via medicine dropper at night as an aid to a deep and restorative nights sleep. The GI route allows a slow metabolism and distribution to the liver, organs and tissues during sleep. It is known that the body optimizes it's analgesic and immune boosting state during Stage 3&4 sleep.\n\ndrsumchai\n_____________________\nThat's an interesting question. In the laboratory it seems that CBD can help to kill cancer cells.CBD coordinates apoptosis (cell suicide) and autophagy, (cell recycling), resulting in the death of breast cancer cells. Apoptosis plays a vital role within our bodies. It is a form of cell death that facilitates the elimination of old and unhealthy cells without the release of harmful substances. Autophagy is another normal physiological process by which the body breaks down unwanted cells. It maintains our homeostasis, or balance, by aiding the degradation of old cells and the formation of new ones. So it seems that CBD can help to destroy cancer cells in the laboratory.\n\nThat being said, it has not been shown that cannabis helps to decrease the incidence of any form of cancer in humans.\n\nPerry Solomon, MD","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10632-markdown","title":"Tincture effects","slug":"tincture-effects","content":"\"After 40+ years of no Cannabis, I just got (through you) a med MJ card. I didn't want to use my lungs for input, so I ordered some Treat Well 1:1 Cannabis tincture and some CBD 1:1 Cannabis spray. I had no detectable effects from the CBD, and a barely detectable buzz from the Treat Well. I don't question the product quality, but what might be preventing me from experiencing a high? (I want the CBD to treat some hydrocephalus effects.)\"\n_____________________\nThanks for writing this question. It is a very common question and one that deserves an answer. There are 60+ cannabinoids in cannabis, some say more than 80. Each cannabinoid has different properties that result in a different bodily effect. The two most well known cannabinoids are CBD and THC. CBD is an analgesic and anti inflammatory, it is also non psychoactive. THC, which also has amazing medicinal properties, is the psychoactive cannabinoid and results in a feeling of being high. What most people do not know is that CBD is actually a counter agent to THC, meaning that, when you use the two together, CBD will actually reduce the psycho activity of THC.\n\nIn an article I wrote awhile back on our H&W I said:\n\"CBD has been found useful in pain management, as a drug that could possibly combat cancer and for its general anti-inflammatory properties. CBD achieves this through its impact on certain receptors in the brain. THC, the best-known property of cannabis, can enable pain relief, help with nausea and diminish anxiety due to its psychotropic properties.\"\n\nWhen you use a 1:1 tincture it is very possible that you may never feel a detectable high. This is highly variable though as my reaction to THC and your reaction can be very, very different. For instance, if I use a 1:1 it is extremely psychotropic for me, but I am also on the further end of the bell curve with this. I am a big proponent of using both THC and CBD as using multiple cannabinoids creates an entourage effect, meaning the various cannabinoids work together better as whole than singled out.\n\nYou can most definitely up your THC intake if you want to feel more. There are tinctures that are purely THC and also purely CBD. For me, CBD in higher quantities creates an overall body relaxation. In lower quantities it would not be felt. I would suggest calling some local dispensaries to see if they have a good selection of sprays and tinctures and then going to see them. \n\nLastly, you could also try low dose THC edibles along with your spray/tincture. There is a great brand called FLORA that I am in love with right now that creates low dose mint chocolate probiotic edibles at 10mg. Also another low dose edibles company in California is called Outset and they create low dose dried fruit, everyone I know who has tried it really thinks it's great.\n\nAs always, start low and slow so you understand your tolerance without overdoing it.\n\nHope this helps you!\n\npamelahadfield\n_____________________\nWhen CBD reaches a certain concentration ratio with THC (in the plant or in the prepared product) the sense of feeling “high” may, and will likely dissipate, as CBD modulates the effects of THC. \n\nMany patients choose the higher CBD concentration products to avoid the cognitive impacts of cannabis caused by THC and its derivatives.\nCBD does not generally cause cognitive changes that are discernible when compared to THC.\n\nDosing for CBD is somewhat individual and depends on body habits, previous use and reason for treatment. Make sure your products are properly labeled and have been tested for accuracy of content by a testing lab, preferably at the time of packaging. \n\nYou may want to discuss cannabis treatment for you specific needs with a physician to better manage you symptoms and use of products for optimal results.\n\nYou may be expecting to “feel” the effects of THC, but they are mitigated by the presence of a relatively large concentration of CBD.\n\ndrgerhart","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10612-markdown","title":"I have some flower/bud that I bought about 18 months ago. Is it still good? ","slug":"i-have-some-flower-bud-that-i-bought-about-18-months-ago-is-it-still-good","content":"\"How long does the effectiveness of marijuana last while in bud form?  What about other forms - do oils and tinctures last longer than bud?  \"\n_____________________\nI think this has happened to everyone, where they find marijuana stashed away somewhere.  18 months is a fairly long time though! The good news is, if it was not exposed to sunlight or water and was kept in a reasonably cool and dark place it will most likely be OK. That said, the cannabinoid profile may have changed slightly.\nAccording to Colorado Pot Guide:\n\n\"As cannabis grows, it produces a substance called cannabigerolid acid (CBGA) which is then synthesized into one of three major cannabinoids: CBDA, CBCA or THCA. Through a process called decarboxylation (heating the product), these cannabinoids are transformed into CBD, CBC and, of course THC. Cannabinoid potency largely depends on the strain profile and harvest/curing methods.\"\n\nIf exposed to heat or sunlight, THCA might convert to the cannabinoid, CBNA, which will be converted to CBN once heated. CBN is not as psychoactive as THC which is the psychoactive component of marijuana.\n\nHarborside Health Center, one of the largest and most prominent  dispensaries in California states the following rules when storing your marijuana:\n\n\n    •  Rule # 1: heat will dry it out and too much moisture can cause dangerous bacteria to grow,\n\n    •  Rule # 2: light is harmful to the trichomes (the sticky resin glands attached) ,\n\n    •  Rule # 3: air will dry it out and lessen its potency\n\n    •  Rule # 4: too much handling causes the trichomes to come off.\n\nTo store cannabis properly you should invest in an airtight container, like a mason jar, and store it in a cool, dark closet. Ideally you should air the container once a month if you keep it for 6 months or longer. You can also add moisture with a Humidipak placed in the container as well. Some people store their marijuana in the freezer although this is said to destroy the trichomes which are an important part of the equation when you need medicinal cannabis. It is not recommended to do this.\n\npamelahadfield\n_____________________\nCigarrets that are stored at 0-(-18) C in a dark, tightly closed container are stable for months. When stoked at +18C 1/3 THC lost over 5 years, while some increase in CBN. When stoked in a room temperature, alteration in color and arome are detected within 9 months; and conversion of THCA to THC is detected as early as at 1.5 month and increase to 25% at 18 months. The ideal storage of cannabis is 2-6 *C for 12 months. \n\nkrabell14","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10609-markdown","title":"What is the most effective delivery to treat MS symptoms...smoking, edibles or tinctures?","slug":"what-is-the-most-effective-delivery-to-treat-ms-symptoms-smoking-edibles-or-tinctures","content":"\n_____________________\nInitial evidence suggests Oral delivery is probably the most optimal.\n\nThe following are the guidelines suggested by the American Academy of Neurology related to cannabis use for symptoms of MS:\n\n\nThe American Academy of Neurology (AAN), an association of neurologists and neuroscientists dedicated to promoting high-quality care for people with nervous system disorders, released a “Summary of evidence-based guideline: Complementary and alternative medicine in MS” in 2014, including the following conclusions on the evidence regarding marijuana and its derivatives:\n\nOral cannabis extract and synthetic THC (tetrahydrocannabinol — a major active component of cannabis) are probably effective for reducing patient-reported symptoms spasticity and pain, but not MS-related tremor or spasticity measured by tests administered by the physician. For these cannabis derivatives the most commonly reported side effects were dizziness, drowsiness, difficulty concentrating and memory disturbance.\n\nSativex oral spray (GW Pharmaceuticals) is probably effective for improving patient-reported symptoms of spasticity, pain and urinary frequency, but not bladder incontinence, MS-related tremor or spasticity measured by tests administered by the physician.\n\nSmoked cannabis research studies have not produced enough evidence to assess its safety or effectiveness for treating MS symptoms including spasticity, pain, balance, posture and cognition changes.\n\nThe long-term safety of marijuana use for MS symptom management is not yet known.\n\nThis text was extracted from the  National Multiple Sclerosis Society website. Keep in mind that vaporized cannabis is effective for 1-2 hours. This may be adequate if you only have difficulty falling asleep at the beginning of the evening.  On the other hand, if you find that you are waking up in the middle of the night and having difficulty returning to sleep, I would suggest you consider an edible form of indica approximately 1-2 hours before bedtime. If you are not aware of an effective edible dose, I recommend starting with the lowest available dose, typically around 5mg.\n\nGrowers and manufacturers of concentrates and tinctures as well as edibles are beginning to make products that have a relatively high CBD to THC ratio.  These products may offer many of the benefits of cannabis while decreasing the psychoactive effects associated with THC.  \n\ndredmunds","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_10569-markdown","title":"After discovering that THCV and CBN are helpful for osteoporosis, appetite suppression and PTSD, I now seek strains.","slug":"after-discovering-that-thcv-and-cbn-are-helpful-for-osteoporosis-appetite-suppression-and-ptsd-i-now-seek-strains","content":"\"Can you point me in a direction to find landrace strains, such as Durban Poison and Willie Nelson, which don't seem to be readily available? (tried Leafly and googling to no avail) I'm currently vaping and using tinctures and edibles for sleep but would love to find a strain for the osteoporosis and to decrease the munchies. Thanks for any help you can offer.\"\n_____________________\nActually, cannabis does help to preserve the bones but osteoporosis can only be reversed if you have the building blocks to make new bones. If you are over 60 years old, you may need to add as spray in the mouth that supports the body's ability to make its own human growth hormone to stimulate new bone production but again you still need the building blocks. For new bones you must have an adequate blood level of vitamin D3. It is almost impossible to obtain enough Vitamin D from the sun because the skin will rapidly age and skin cancers may result from excessive exposure. Take your vitamin D3 because it is a hormone, not a vitamin and it is necessary to put the calcium in your diet into the bones where it belongs. If you do dairy products and do you eat meat, you are getting too much phosphorus and you will further deteriorate your bones. The best dietary calcium to build bones is obtained in seaweed and dark leafy greens and a diet that minimizes meat, sugar and caffeine. When you exercise it stimulates the bones to become more solid so in essence you're telling your body exactly where you want the calcium to be placed provided you have adequate vitamin D3. I also discourage patients from smoking their medicine, when we want exact amounts given for tissue repair, I suggest you take a tincture for more accuracy. Good luck in your search for the exact right bud to help your bones also.\n\ndrolson","image":null}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":180,"numPages":16,"currentPage":16,"id":5843,"name":"Tincture","slug":"tincture","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
