Swallowing cannabis, whether in tincture or other form, means it must go on a journey through the system that can delay the onset of effects for a variable amount of time, occasionally up to an hour depending on many factors like what else is in your stomach when the cannabis is swallowed. Alcohol based tinctures may be too astringent to hold in the mouth for very long, but glycerine based tinctures are also available. Whatever preparation is being used, begin with small amounts the first time and wait an hour to determine effects. \n\ndrelkind","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_8946-markdown","title":"Cannabis tincture suggestions for nerve pain?","slug":"cannabis-tincture-suggestions-for-nerve-pain","content":"\"One of my relatives has been suffering from nerve pain. They suggested he try cannabis! He has tried the Lord Jones High CBD lotion but has not gotten relief. \n\nWe are wondering if maybe a tincture will help? What dosage might be beneficial for him? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!\"\n_____________________\nHi there! I'm sorry to hear your relative is struggling with this uncomfortable condition. Happily, cannabis does provide relief for many people with this issue. Please check out these search results on the topic which should provide plenty of information for you:\n\nashleigh\n_____________________\nApplying cannabis to the skin will not provide significant absorption beyond a very local area so I would definitely try a tincture or similar preparation. When tinctures or lozenges are held in the mouth effects may be noticeable within 10 minutes; when cannabis is swallowed it may take up to an hour for effects. Starting with a CBD:THC ratio of 20:1 and varying the amount taken and the cannabinoid ratio (moving toward 1:1) may yield a preparation helpful in reducing the discomfort. Most patients find this kind of cautious experimentation useful for finding the best relief of their symptoms. \n\ndrelkind\n_____________________\nI agree with Dr. Elkind that a tincture containing both CBD and THC (for the entourage effect) would be a good choice. I also agree that for some patients, a traditional cream/emollient/oil may only have limited penetration into the skin. However, I might suggest another alternative. Companies like OMremedies.com & MakingYouBetterBrand.com have cannabis infused epsom salts (epsom salts being composed of magnesium salt which is important for nerve conduction). If you put a very small/fractional dose in warm (not steaming hot) water and see if the extremities can tolerate a dunk/bath for a short duration, this may be useful. In my experience a good deal of the limited medical literature concerning cannabinoids and neuropathic pain seem to use THC in the experiments (however an admixture of THC and CBD should also do well). I hope this helps please let us know what happens!\n\ndrpark","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_8893-markdown","title":"Where can I buy bottle 300mg 2oz cbd tincture","slug":"where-can-i-buy-bottle-300mg-2oz-cbd-tincture","content":"","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_8818-markdown","title":"What is the favorite way for people to take CBD - vape or tincture? Honestly I think it's down to personal preference and what you're using it for. Do you need to medicate throughout the day? Will you need to medicate on the go? Have you found a tincture that you like the taste of? I think tinctures are more discreet, but the effects of vaping are immediate. Have you tried either method yet? I would say try both methods out and see what works best for you. Good luck! \n\ngabriella\n_____________________\n \nHello!\nWell my favorite way of consuming CBD Oil is by vaping means. In general, I share the concept of \"minimum effective dose/ concentration\" with cannabis. The idea is to slowly add more/ re-dose until the moment the nausea disappears. For tinctures, a good place to start is the product label; most tinctures I've seen give general dosing guidelines based on weight etc (i.e. half dropper vs full dropper). Another wrinkle I add for nausea patients using tincture is to try dilution in hot non-caffeinated tea. In this case, however, I tell patients to use a slightly larger-than-normal dose since the tincture drops are being diluted in a larger volume of hot soothing tea. I hope these tips prove useful!\n\ndrpark","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_8734-markdown","title":"Migraines😢","slug":"migraines","content":"\"Is 20:1 tincture best for migraines? I have been taking opioids for many years & am trying to wean off. Is a tincture the quickest way to get relief from a migraine?\"\n_____________________\n@Perry Solomon, MD \n\ndjw\n_____________________\nVaping or smoking is the quickest way to deliver cannabis into your system. A tincture can take up to 30 minutes to take effect where as vaping/smoking will take minutes. One of our HelloMD doctors, Dr. Sharon Olson, suffers from migraines and recommends a topical cannabis salve for the neck and upper back as well as a 4:1 tincture of CBD:THC based on a study that found these to be effective in pain relief (see below). That said, our co-founder Pamela Hadfield finds a different medley of high CBD products have helped her wean herself off opioids to be migraine-free. You can read her story and advice here: https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5833c3741acf3d000ce08758/how-to-stop-migraines. Just be aware that everyone's biochemistry is unique, so you may need to experiment to find the right line-up of cannabis products to help you. I also suffer from migraines and have just started taking a 20:1 tincture daily as a preventative and am using a 1:1 tincture plus 3:1 vape pen for attacks. Hope this helps!\n\nlyp\n_____________________\nCannabis, in the right combinations, will manage migraine pain but if you want to treat the root cause I recommend Healing Yoga. Unfortunately my experience was terrible because I was ill informed as to the type and dosage.\nFirst of all, I used an edible so the effects lasted a good 7 hours. Second, the strain I used made me very dizzy adding to the nausea that comes with my migraines.\n\n I still haven’t found the courage to try cannabis for migraines again, but when I do, I plan to only vape, no edibles until I ‘m very familiar with the strain and the dosage. Then I will only use a CBD heavy strain to try.\n\nStill, my go to cure has been Maxalt and 4 Advil. I make tinctures which are 7.4 mg/ml CBD. What would a normal dose of this be? (approximately)\"\n_____________________\nAll cannabis and the dosages for cannabis use varies per individual, there is no one-size-fits-all. You ask what is the standard dosage for CBD's in a tincture and as far as I know there is no standard dosage. This CBD I take contains 28 mg per 1cc with only 1 mg of THC per cc. I personally take that concentration because I sleep well with that dosage and I have had a history of cancer. I do think that the higher CBD dosage allows one to adjust how much CBD they're getting by doing a larger or smaller amount of tincture and this seems much easier than a low-dose CBD that you have to take large volumes to reach an effective amount of CBD. \nCBD is what makes you well but the THC is like icing on a cake, We all love our cake with icing because it more it it makes it more interesting and fun but the CBD's seem to be what gets you well so keep doing your CBD's. Kiva Terra bites are edibles and take 1-3 hours to kick in unless you suck all the chocolate off immediately then they may work in 30-40 minutes instead. Edibles on average can last up to 8 hours. The negative possibility with edibles is \"overhang\" which is where the next day you are still feeling the effects. For CBD tinctures a CBD:THC ratio of 1:1 is the strongest for sleep, works in 20 minutes when placed under the tongue, and can last on average of 6 hours.
