We also have a major family history of diabetes and a family member is concerned that edibles are not the best option for me considering my family history. How can explain to her the differences between the different methods of consuming cannabis and why edibles create a longer lasting and more relaxing effect than vaping or topical products? \"\n_____________________\nCongratulations on finding a cannabis product that brings relief. Before we answer your question, we would like to make a distinction between the product that you consume and mode of administration (MOA), which is the route in which you put the cannabis in your body. \nThis distinction is important, because it is not necessarily the \"edible\" - we are assuming the edible has sugar because of the diabetes concern- but the mode of administration, oral, that causes the cannabis to be processed through your liver. \nWhen cannabis goes through your liver it is converted to the type of THC that really works on alleviating your symptoms and helping you sleep. \nSo, there are numerous, sugar free products that you can consume and most likely get the same effect. Some experimentation may be needed but start by taking the same number of milligrams of sugar-free product as you take of your potentially diabetes inducing (at least according to your concerned relative) edible. \nBTW, cannabis is very helpful for diabetes, but not the sugary kind!\n\ndneice\n_____________________\nThat's wonderful that edibles are helping you manage your pain and insomnia. Cannabis can be consumed via different methods, such as smoking, sub-lingual, topical, and via beverage or edible consumption. Smoking and sub-lingual can help you get pain relief at a faster rate of time because they enter into your blood stream quicker. The effects are shorter and you may need to medicate more often. Sub-lingual are used via tinctures and are absorbed into the blood stream by applying the tincture under the tongue or in the soft tissue in the side your mouth. Visa-vis consumption through edibles and beverages need to be digested and finally processed through the liver. The effects are longer lasting, but patient needs to be careful with dosage amounts. Some patients may experience tachycardia (fast heart pulse) with higher dosages of edibles which often can cause panic attacks. Starting with smalls dosages of edibles is a wise approach to avoid such problems. Start with a small dosage that is right for you or that is recommended by your physician and slowly increase if pain persists. Also, make sure you do not have any where to go for a long while after consuming edibles. Avoid driving and operating any type of machinery. This is another reason by starting with small dosages is a good approach when medicating with edibles.\n\npauly\n_____________________\nIt is wonderful to hear that you are getting the relief you need by consuming edibles. Edibles typically take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to have a full effect. It has to work through your digestive system, going through your stomach and then your liver. We recommend that patients enjoy Kiva as a desert so that the cannabis can process naturally with the rest of your digestive functions. Once it has been processed by your liver it turns that Delta 9thc into a delta 11 which can create a more intense and longer lasting effect.\n That is why edibles are the preferred method for ailments such as insomnia and pain relief. Smoking and vaping have a much faster onset, almost instantaneous, but the effect also wears off quicker. Some patients may find relief from smoking or vaping and then eating an edible for a more even keel effect. Once the smoke has worn off the edible is kicking in and they won't have to smoke or vape as often. Edibles do produce more of a bodily heavy effect, while vaping is more of a cerebral effect. When you combine the 2 you may get the best of both worlds. Please remember that there are many different factors to take in account. Every BODY is different, that is why we recommend 5mg as a starting dose until you know how it affects you. Also, the exact that is used can create a different effect. We use a cold water extract, which is one of the oldest. cleanest, and safest methods of extraction for the cannabis. There are no chemicals involved in the process. On a final note, I would recommend our dark chocolate line of products since they have the least amount of sugar. :)\nThank you\n\nkivaerica","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_6624-markdown","title":"How do hmbldt dose pens work?","slug":"how-do-hmbldt-dose-pens-work","content":"\"Are they vape pens? Is it a tincture?\"\n_____________________\nWe recently had a visit from the Hmbldt team and were given a demo on how these nifty pens work. First they are developed to create a certain experience so they have four pens: Sleep, Calm, Relief and Bliss. The pen itself looks futuristic and was devised to work and heat the oil inside differently from other vape pens, which are mostly designed and fabricated in China. \n\nHmbldt pens are made so that the oils are not over heated so they retain more of the cannabinoid and terpene profiles which translates into a very different flavor. The vape is also slightly cool, which is a different experience. When you inhale you are supposed to do so until the pen vibrates at which point you know you have had the accurate dosage.\n\nThis is where the pen really stands apart, as that vibration indicates one dose so you can really understand how much CBD to THC you have ingested. This allows for a well rounded and consistent experience. I really like the pens.\n\npamelahadfield","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_6611-markdown","title":"I lost my voice out of the blue, can vaping or a pipe cause this?","slug":"i-lost-my-voice-out-of-the-blue-can-vaping-or-a-pipe-cause-this","content":"\"I just started medically smoking and vaping about two weeks ago. I have not yet encountered that in my cannabis career, nor have I heard of anyone losing their voice from cannabis consumption. I do notice that my immune system is always a little funky during the season changes. In the meantime, it couldn't hurt to try using edibles instead to give your throat a rest. I would start with a 5MG dose, and wait 1-2 hours before ingesting more. The key of starting small and working your way up is to be able to \"find your number\", so you have better understanding on what you'll need to medicate in the future! Happy healing!\n\nlaurenmc\n_____________________\nYes vaping can cause throat problems. I find them very effective and I always keep a 1:1 CBD THC strain by my bedside. \n\nIf I were you I would experiment a little with both THC and CBD strains to see what works best with you. Find an Indica strain that is well known for sleep (like Skywalker OG or Platinum Cookies) and see how that works for you. If you are looking for less of a high then a CBD strain may help you as well. \n\nI have found two distinct differences for CBD vs THC for sleep (at least in my own case). If you have trouble falling asleep, then THC strains will sedate you and allow you to rest. If you have trouble winding down your mind, then CBD:THC strains will help you to relax allowing your mind reach a state where it can rest.\n\nryan","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_6574-markdown","title":"waking up throughout the night. can't find right combination. please help!","slug":"waking-up-throughout-the-night-cant-find-right-combination-please-help","content":"\"For the past 9 months I've been making my own edibles but they varied so much and I didn't know the strains I was getting. In my experience w/ the patients I see through HelloMD, we've had alot of success in helping people sleep by adding small amounts of CBN along w/ THC; try this combo (in small amounts/ dosages) first with edibles as this should provide for longer duration sleep compared to using a vape-pen or tincture. What makes you feel you've developed a tolerance? I wouldn't worry about this too much unless you actually notice having to purchase more cannabis products than in the past during a certain time duration to achieve the same results. If this is the case, taking a short breather from cannabis might be just what you need. Don't forget to exercise daily as this helps sleep and also try mindfulness & meditation right before bedtime as this has helped many of my patients. Mindful.org has good mindfulness tips & SleepAssociation.org & SleepFoundation.org has good tips for sleep hygiene, prepping your head & sleep space for sleep. ","slug":"how-can-i-avoid-cotton-mouth","content":"\"Are there certain strains I can purchase that won't give me this terrible side effect? I enjoy vaping before bed each night, but I can't stand the dry mouth that typically follows.\"\n_____________________\nI am not a doctor, but I know that this is a very common experience. It is also one of the only known health hazards of smoking or vaping cannabis over a long period of time. The cotton mouth you refer to actually can lead to gum disease which eventually leads to periodontal disease ie the loss of teeth!\n\nThe reason you get the cotton mouth is due to the endocannabinoid system in your body and the series of cannabinoid receptors known as CB1 and CB2 receptors. When you ingest marijuana it binds to both of these receptors which play a part in the production of saliva. Your body is basically being told to stop producing the right amount of saliva as the message becomes blocked, I like to think of it as a numbing agent to the parasympathetic nervous system.\n\nUnfortunately, there is no cure all for cotton mouth. It is suggested that if this effects you often that you drink a lot more water during the day as your body could also be combatting dehydration which is made worse by vaping. Also, it is advised to avoid all things sugary such as sodas or sweets before bed. Some people say that sucking on a hard candy when you get cotton mouth is a great idea, but, I think this is not such a good idea as it's sugary.\n\nPersonally, I find that if i decrease my THC intake to a minimum I do not get cotton mouth. One suggestion would be to try a high CBD strain and see if that relaxes you enough before bed, in lieu of a high THC strain.\n\nI hope this helps!\n\npamelahadfield","image":null}},{"node":{"id":"Question_11472-markdown","title":"I'm new to cannibas? If this is the case, then a typical 'high' from a vape pen will last anywhere from 1.5-4 hours depending on how much you ingest. Yes, it does depend on the person and the interaction with their system as well and it also depends on your tolerance. It is also dependent on how much THC is within the vape pen. There are pens that go anywhere from 5%-95% for instance. That is a huge difference.\n\nIf you are asking how long a vape pen oil cartridge lasts, this too depends on how often you use it. For me, a vape pen cartridge lasts a very long time as I tend to take 2 puffs and then I put it away. Other people may take 10-15.
