Hi there!\nResearchers have long been investigating cannabis' potential role as a treatment modality for movement disorders, such as Parkinson's Disease, Huntingon's Disease and Tourette Syndrome.

Most  movement disorders are caused by a dysfunction of basal ganglia-thalamo-cortical loops, where cannabinoid recepors are densely located. It has been suggested that our endogenous cannabinoid system (ECS) participates in the control of movements and, therefore, the ECS might play a role in the pathophysiology of these diseases.

Results from several preclinical studies suggest that modulating the endocannabinoid system may be useful in treating some motor symptoms of Parkinson's disease and Tourette.\nAn open-label observational study assessing the clinical effect of cannabis on motor and non-motor symptoms of Parkinson's revealed significant improvement after treatment in tremor and bradykinesia.\nhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24614667

Also, in a 2016 single case report, the test subject received 10.8mg of THC and 10mg of CBD twice per day in a 1:1 oro-mucosal spray (Sativex). Researchers from a 1986 study showed that after six weeks of CBD treatment, patients with dystonic movement disorders displyaed 20-50% improvement of dystonic symptoms. Very recently, researchers from UCSD School of Medicine’s Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research were granted permission from the DEA to import CBD and THC from Canada to conduct a double-blind, placebo-control, cross-over clinical trial assessing efficacy and tolerability of a 20CBD:1THC oromucosal spray in the treatment of essential tremor patients. All study participants will be administered an oral cannabis 20:1 spray for two weeks to gauge efficacy. The study was proposed by Dr. Fatta Nahab, MD —a neurologist specializing in movement disorder—after two patients showed marked reductions in tremors after using cannabis.
