Here’s how to make a cannabis-infused Mojito drink to spice up your Cinco de Mayo festivities.\n\n![Hello3-min (9).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello3_min_9_315813a9c7.png)\n\n### Cinco de Mayo Is for Everyone\nCinco de Mayo, also called 5 de Mayo, [commemorates a single battle](https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/cinco-de-mayo) between Mexico and the French Empire led by Napoleon III. In 1861, Mexico defaulted on loans held by Britain, Spain, and France. All three countries sent ships to Mexico to collect. Mexico settled with Britain and Spain, but France wanted more of a foothold on Mexican territory. \n\nOn May 5, 1862, French troops engaged a ragtag group of Mexican volunteers at Puebla – and lost. Although France went on to win the war, Mexico remembers this battle as a victory for indigenous Mexican people against an empire-building European invader. \n\nIt’s that spirit of Mexican pride and independence that makes Cinco de Mayo so widely celebrated today, even though few people remember the Battle of Puebla itself. In the US and other places, Cinco de Mayo has become a day for celebrating all things Mexican – and everyone can join in. It’s also a time for enjoying cannabis in all its many forms, including cool, cannabis-infused spirits for a warm May Day. Although it isn’t strictly a Mexican drink, a classic mojito can fill the bill, especially if it contains an infusion of your favorite cannabis strain. \n\n![Hello1-min (12).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello1_min_12_51b064952f.png)\n\n### How to Make a Cannabis-Infused Mojito\nThe Mojito originated in Cuba, using ingredients such as sugar and rum that are native to the island. But it’s become popular worldwide for its easy blend of sweetness and spirits. The standard Mojito recipe includes [just five ingredients](https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/147363/the-real-mojito/): rum, sugar, mint, lime juice, and club soda or other sparkling water. Although there are plenty of variations on the theme, all of them can benefit from a cannabis boost. Here are two ways to add your favorite kind of cannabis to a classic Cuban mojito.\n\n### What You’ll Need\n- 8-10 fresh mint leaves\n- 4-5 tsp lime juice\n- 1-2 tsp white granulated sugar (or brown sugar, if you prefer) or sugar syrup\n- 60ml white rum (not spiced rum)\n- Club soda or sparkling water to taste\n- Your favorite cannabis – about 1/8 oz ground flower or 1-2 drops of tincture\n\n![iStock-1161224925.jpg](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/i_Stock_1161224925_f9875fe4dd.jpg)\n\n### How to Create a Cannabis Infusion\nYou can add cannabis to your mojito either by infusing rum with your favorite strain or by adding [a few drops of cannabis tincture](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/how-to-make-a-marijuana-tincture) to the finished drink. \n\nTo [make cannabis-infused rum](https://www.growbarato.net/blog/en/make-mojitos-cannabis/), you’ll need to prepare it ahead of time. Here’s how.\n- 1.) Grind your cannabis finely, then place it on a cookie sheet and bake it in the oven for about an hour at 250F to decarboxylate the cannabis and make its compounds bioavailable. \n- 2.) Place the decarbed cannabis in a square of cheesecloth or clean pantyhose. Tie off the top, keeping a long string.\n- 3.) Put the cannabis bag into a bottle of white rum. . Let it sit in the refrigerator for 24-48 hours.\n- 4.) When ready, simply pull out the cannabis bag. Your white rum is now infused with your favorite weed, and it’s ready to add to your mojito.\n\nTo infuse with a tincture, simply add a few drops to the finished mojito. Choose a THC or [CBD-dominant](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/diy-recipe-high-cbd-cannabis-tincture) tincture, or mix them to suit your mood.\n\n![Hello2-min (13).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello2_min_13_04e693cc48.png)\n\n### Simple Steps to Make Your Mojito\nWith your cannabis infusion at hand, follow these steps to create the mojito itself.\n\n- 1.) “Muddle” your mint. Use a dedicated muddler, a mortar, and pestle, or just a flat wooden spoon to mash the mint and release its flavor. \n- 2.) Put the crushed mint into a cocktail glass.\n- 3.) Add the sugar, lime juice, and rum\n- 4.) Add the cannabis tincture (if you’re not using infused rum)\n- 5.) Add club soda or sparkling water to suit your taste\n- 6.) Stir well and serve with ice cubes or mint garnish if you like.\n\n### Get a Medical Marijuana Card Online\nIt's easy to get your medical marijuana document with the online [Telehealth service HelloMD](https://hellomd.com/get-started). This recipe used a dosage of 500 mg (Approximately 50 mg of THC per slice). Be sure to mix cake batter well!\n\n### Cake Ingredients:\n- 500 milligrams of Full-Spectrum RSO (about a ½ gram syringe of Rick Simpson Oil)\n- 1 cup chopped pecans\n- 1 ½ cups brown sugar\n- ½ cup white sugar\n- 1 cup vegetable oil\n- 4 large eggs\n- ¾ cup unsweetened applesauce\n- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract\n- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour\n- 2 teaspoons baking powder\n- 1 teaspoon baking soda\n- ½ teaspoon salt\n- 1 ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon\n- 1 teaspoon ginger\n- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg\n- ¼ teaspoon cloves\n- 2 cups grated carrots (about four large carrots)\n \n![Eat more carrots in our cannabis-infused carrot cake](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_02_14_at_4_38_06_PM_c7a2e2109d.png)\n\n### Cream Cheese Frosting:\n- 16 ounces full-fat block cream cheese, room temperature\n- ½ cup unsalted butter softened to room temperature\n- 4 cups confectioners sugar\n- 1 ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract\n- 1 cup chopped pecans\n- Pinch of salt, for taste\n\n### Infused-Cannabis Cake Prep:\n\n- Preheat oven to 300F. \n- Place chopped pecans on the baking sheet covered in parchment paper and bake for 6 minutes. \n- Remove from the oven. Let cool for at least 10 minutes.\n- Turn oven up to 350F. \n- Grease two 9-inch cake pans, line with parchment paper, and grease again. (The parchment paper helps the cakes release from the pans easily.)\n- Warm vegetable oil in a saucepan over low heat. Add RSO oil. Gently heat the infusion until it's warm enough to dissolve the RSO oil. Remove from heat.\n- Whisk granulated sugar, brown sugar, RSO-infused oil, applesauce, eggs, and vanilla in a large bowl until there are no sugar lumps.\n- Mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, ginger, nutmeg, salt, cloves, and cinnamon in another large bowl.\n- Slowly fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients using a wooden spoon or rubber spatula.\n- Fold the carrots and pecans into the mixture. \n- Pour the mixture evenly into the pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Test the center with a toothpick - make sure that the toothpick is clean and the cake is not gooey.\n- Let the cakes cool by placing them on a wire rack. The cakes need to be completely cool before frosting.\n\n### Frosting Prep:\n\n- Beat together butter and cream cheese using a mixer in a large bowl for about 2 minutes on medium-high speed until smooth.\n- Add the confectioner's sugar, a pinch of salt, and vanilla extract.\n- Start by beating the mixture on low for 20-30 seconds, then go to a higher speed and mix for 3 minutes until smooth.\n- Add more sugar if the frosting is running thin. You can add a small amount of milk if it is coming out too thick. Frosting should be soft but not runny.\n\n### Layer and Frost:\n\n- Using a large serrated knife, cut off the top of each cake to make a flat surface. Place one cake layer on a plate.\n- Cover with frosting.\n- Repeat for the second layer. Using the rest of the frosting, cover the top and sides of the cake. Be sure to smooth it out.\n- Add pecans on top and all over the sides.\n- Chill the cake in the fridge for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving. This helps the cake hold together.\n\n\n### Get Your Medical Document & Purchase Medical Cannabis\n\nIt's easy to get your medical document with the online [Telehealth service HelloMD](https://hellomd.com/get-started). Use your best judgment on dosing based on your previous experiences with edibles. If you have a lower tolerance to cannabis and want to make a less potent soup, you can always substitute plain butter for part of the cannabutter. \n\n#### Cooking Tools:\n\n* Large or medium cooking pot\n* Mixing spatula or spoon \n* Measuring cups and spoons\n\n### How to Make Cannabis-Infused Broccoli Cheddar Soup \n\n1. Before you begin, it’s always a good idea to make sure you have all of your ingredients and cooking tools at the ready and out on a clean surface. \n\n2. Put a medium or large cooking pot on the stove, and turn on low heat. Add the cannabutter, and let it melt (watching carefully to make sure it doesn’t start to burn or brown). \n\n3. Once melted, mix in the garlic and flour, and turn the heat up slightly. Watch for about a minute as the flour lightly browns and makes the mixture a light brown color. \n\n4. Add the chicken broth to the pot, turning the heat on high and stirring every few minutes to ensure even heating. Let the broth heat to a low boil. \n\n5. Once the broth is bubbling at a low boil, mix in the frozen broccoli and the milk. (This is also when you’d want to add in carrots if you’re using them.) Let the mixture come back up to a simmer, and then adjust the heat to keep it simmering. Continue simmering until the broccoli is cooked through and soft. You should be able to break the broccoli apart very easily with your spoon or spatula when it’s finished cooking. \n\n6. When the broccoli has finished cooking and is soft enough to break apart with your spoon or spatula, remove it from the heat and mix in all but half a cup of the cheese. Set the other half cup of cheese aside. \n\n7. Season your soup with salt and pepper to taste. The cheese already includes plenty of salt, so I just add pepper. These methods of consuming CBD are great, but let’s not forget about edibles—especially CBD gummies. \n\nCBD gummies are an easy way to take your medicine, and you can make them at home. When you opt to make your own CBD gummies, you get to choose the amount of CBD each gummy contains—this way you can cater each dose to meet your individual needs. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_us/?utm_medium=copy_link/)\n\nMaking CBD gummies allows you to portion your CBD ahead of time, so you can just pop a CBD gummy into your mouth whenever—and wherever you are. CBD gummies are perfect for those of us looking for a quick and tasty way to consume CBD. Plus, CBD gummies are easy to share with friends.\n\nIf you’ve never made gummies before, never fear; we’ve got your back. Whipping up your own CBD gummies can sound intimidating, but the process is simple if you use a [CBD tincture](https://www.hellolift.com/products?category=Tinctures). \n\nThese days, CBD tinctures come in a variety of flavors, so when choosing one, make sure that it complements the flavors of your other ingredients. Alternatively, many companies also make [unflavored CBD tinctures]( https://hellomd.com/articles/diy-recipe-high-cbd-cannabis-tincture/) that you can add to your CBD gummies without affecting their taste. \n\nIf you want CBD gummies in fun shapes and sizes, you can invest in some silicone molds. These come in a variety of forms, including the classic gummy bear. But you can also use a simple cake or loaf pan and cut your CBD gummies into bite-sized squares. \n\nStore-bought gummies are typically full of sugars, dyes and artificial flavors. But when you make your own CBD gummies at home, you can make them healthier by adding vitamins, probiotics and other supplements. \n\nRELATED: [DIY RECIPE: HEMP CBD BLUEBERRY BREAKFAST SMOOTHIE](https://hellomd.com/articles/diy-recipe-hemp-cbd-blueberry-breakfast-smoothie/)\n\n### Ingredients for CBD Gummies\n\n* 1 1/2 cups juice or liquid of your choice\n* 4 tbsp grass-fed gelatin \n* 2–4 tbsp honey or other sweetener of your choice\n* hemp CBD tincture (amount you use is up to you) \n\nThis recipe makes approximately 50 gummy bear-sized gummies. To figure out how much of your hemp CBD tincture to use, think about how much CBD you want in each gummy. For example, if you want 2 mg of CBD per gummy, you would use 100 mg of CBD for your recipe. \n\n### How to Make CBD Gummies \n\n1. Pour liquid into a small- or medium-sized saucepan. \n2. Sprinkle the gelatin on top, and let it sit for a few minutes, until it has been absorbed into the liquid. Once this has happened, mix well. \n3. Place the saucepan on medium heat, and allow the grainy liquid to warm—but don’t let it boil. Keep the liquid on the heat until all of the gelatin dissolves and the mixture becomes runny. \n4. Add your sweetener, and stir well.\n5. Add the CBD tincture, and stir well. If you’re using molds, you can opt to add your CBD to each individual mold. This will give each CBD gummy a more accurate dose. \n6. Pour liquid into your pan or molds. You can pour the liquid into a measuring cup or use a dropper to make filling your molds easier. \n7. Refrigerate for 2–3 hours, until liquid has set. \n8. Remove gummies from molds or cut them into squares if using a pan. \n9. Keep your CBD gummies in an airtight container, and consume them within two weeks. \n\n### Healthy Tips for Your CBD Gummy Recipe \n\nThis CBD gummy recipe calls for you to use liquid and gelatin. And while you can use any version of these two ingredients, here are a few healthy options to consider. \n\nFor a liquid, green juice or another kind of fruit and vegetable juice can add a nutritious boost. If you’d like to add probiotics to your gummies, you can use kombucha as a liquid base for your CBD gummies. Also consider adding any other supplements that dissolve well in water, like spirulina. \n\nAs for the various types of gelatin, not all are created equal. Grass-fed gelatin tends to be more nutrient dense than other types of gelatins on the market. Additionally, grass-fed gelatin is filled with the same nutrients, minerals and protein that make bone broth beneficial.\n\nPhoto credit: Anton stock/Shutterstock.com\n\nWant to try CBD, but don’t know where to start? We’ve adapted the original recipe here, bringing the dosage way down for us plebs, but keeping all the other good stuff intact, like chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and banana chips. We’d like to think this treat would inspire a few shake, rattle and rolls from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself.\n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS COOKBOOK TAKES EDIBLES TO THE NEXT LEVEL](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5bd759aeee0ba400094ef0de/cannabis-cookbook-takes-edibles-to-the-next-level)\n\n### Ingredients for the Elvis Cookie\n\n* 6 tbsp | 85 g unsalted butter \n* 1/2 cup | 90 g high-quality semisweet chocolate chips (60–65% cacao) \n* 2 3/4 tsp | 12 g Canna Butter (see below), at room temperature \n* 1/2 cup | 100 g packed light brown sugar \n* 1/2 cup | 70 g all-purpose flour \n* 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp | 30 g unsweetened cocoa powder \n* 1/4 tsp baking soda \n* 1/4 tsp kosher salt \n* 1 large egg, at room temperature \n* 1 tsp vanilla extract \n* 1/2 cup | 42 g banana chips, roughly chopped \n* 1/2 cup | 85 g peanut butter chips \n* 1/4 cup | 45 g white chocolate chips \n\n**Special Equipment:**\nDouble boiler \n\n### Directions for the Elvis Cookie\n\n* Preheat the oven to 325°F [165°C]. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.\n* In a medium heatproof bowl over a double boiler, melt together the butter and semisweet chocolate, stirring every so often with a rubber spatula, about 5 minutes. \n* Add the **canna butter** (see recipe below) and whisk to combine. Whisk in the brown sugar, remove from the heat, and let cool for about 5 minutes. \n* Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. \n* Whisk the egg and vanilla into the chocolate mixture.\n* Add half the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture and fold to combine. Fold in the remaining flour mixture. \n* Add the banana chips, peanut butter chips, and white chocolate chips, and fold again until just combined. Do not overmix.\n* Refrigerate the dough for about 15 minutes to rest and firm up. \n* Weigh the dough and divide into sixteen equal balls. Using a scale to portion the dough is highly recommended for this recipe, however, if you do not have a scale, portion the dough using a 2-Tbsp [30 ml] cookie scoop, or 2 level Tbsp [30 ml] per cookie. If you go this route, level the scoop when measuring and scrape out all the dough completely from the scoop each time.\n* Place eight dough balls onto each of the prepared sheets, spacing them evenly so they have room to spread. Press them down slightly to flatten. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the cookies are dry on the surface, but still a little soft on the inside. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet. They will firm up once completely cooled, but we can’t resist indulging in these while they are still warm and gooey!\n\n**Make-Ahead Tip:** The cookie dough can be made, portioned, flattened, and frozen, then stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to three months. Bake as directed directly from the freezer. \n\n**Variation:** To make a double-dose Elvis Cookie sandwich, sandwich peanut butter and fresh banana slices between two cookies! Crumble in some candied bacon to pay true homage to the King. (Elvis was known to throw some bacon into his fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches when he was feeling especially kinglike.)\n\n***\n### Canna Butter Recipe\n\n- **Active Time:** 30 minutes\n- **Inactive Time:** 28 hrs\n- **Makes:** 1 cup | 206 g\n\nA basic building block for cooking with cannabis, canna butter is one of the most commonly used forms of infusion. Once you master this recipe, you can turn almost anything into an edible.\n\n#### Ingredients\n\n* 1/4 oz | 7 g decarboxylated cannabis flower \n* 12 oz | 340 g cold unsalted butter (see Note) \n* 2 cups | 473 g cold water \n\n#### Special Equipment\n\n* Candy thermometer (optional) \n* Fine-mesh strainer \n* Cheesecloth \n* Tall 1-qt [960-ml] deli container or measuring cup \n* 1/2-pt [240-ml] glass Mason jar with tight-fitting lid \n\n**Note:** For our recipe, we use standard American butter, which typically clocks in at around 80 percent butterfat. European-style butter will have upwards of 82 percent butterfat, which may give you a higher potency than what we’ve tested.\n\n#### Directions\n\n* In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cannabis, butter, and water. Bring to just below boiling, 200°F to 210°F [95°C to 99°C], without stirring. We recommend using a candy thermometer for precision. Adjust the heat to low. Keep the mixture at this temperature for 4 hours. Using a rubber spatula, scrape down the sides of the pan if you start to see bits of herb sticking to it. The liquid will be at a constant gentle simmer. A few bubbles will break through the fat layer, but the mixture should never come to a rolling boil. If you notice the water getting low from evaporation, add 1 cup [237 g] hot tap water to prevent the mixture from burning. \n* After 4 hours, remove the pan from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.\n* Place a fine-mesh strainer over a large bowl and line the strainer with cheesecloth. Carefully pour in the cannabis-butter mixture. Use a rubber spatula to scrape out the pot, making sure you get all the butter and herb particles. With the spatula or the back of a ladle, press the mixture against the strainer to squeeze out all the liquid you can. Gather up the cheesecloth and give it another good press against the sieve to make sure you get out as much liquid as possible. Discard the leftover debris. (If you are making a larger batch, you may find it helpful to use a potato ricer to efficiently compress the cheesecloth-wrapped herb.) \n* Pour the butter-water liquid into a tall container—make sure the container isn’t too wide or your butter block will be too thin and difficult to remove. Use a rubber spatula to clean the bowl; make sure you get every last bit—that’s liquid gold in there! Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours. \n* Once the mixture cools, the butter and water will separate. Remove the butter block from the container and pat dry with a paper towel. You may have to cut around the edges or lightly push down on the sides to loosen it. If your block breaks while pulling it out, don’t worry. Just make sure to get all the butter pieces out. Use a small strainer to scoop up any remaining butter bits. \n* On the bottom of the butter block you will see a green film. Using the back of a knife, scrape off this film and toss it along with the remaining water down the drain. \n* In a small pot over low heat, melt the canna butter. Once melted, immediately turn off the heat and pour the butter into the glass jar and seal the lid. Label the jar with the date and contents. Refrigerate for up to 1 month, or freeze for up to 6 months.\n\nPhoto credit: Linda Xiao\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-about-marijuana/) index of articles. It’s a two-day celebration, starting this year at sundown on Sunday, Sept. 9 and continuing until Tuesday, Sept. 11. It marks the start of a brand-new year and commemorates, according to the religion, Adam and Eve’s creation. Like many religious holidays, it’s a time for family and friends to come together, break bread and delight in a time-revered ceremony. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nMany traditions come along with Rosh Hashanah, from lighting candles each night and reciting associated blessings to the shofar blowing ceremony and shared meals every day. Each of these meals begin with a ceremony that includes the recitation of a special Kiddush over red wine and [challah bread](https://www.myjewishlearning.com/article/challah/). \n\nChallah is an important part of Judaism—even the number of braids and humps on top of the loaf symbolize various concepts like peace and love. On Rosh Hashanah, the challah bread is dipped into honey, signifying hope for a sweet year. \n\nWe hope this cannabis-infused challah bread makes for a celebratory and unique addition to Rosh Hashanah. It can be a great way to incorporate some natural medicine into the holiday to make everyone feel relaxed, happy and festive—and cannabis is also considered kosher if smoked or eaten along with other kosher ingredients. \n\nWe hope this cannabis-infused challah helps carry you into a new and sweet year. \n\nRELATED: [JEWS & CANNABIS: A RELATIONSHIP ROOTED IN SCIENCE AND RELIGION](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/59c1b57593afe72b03311721/jews-and-cannabis-a-relationship-rooted-in-science-and-religion) \n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Challah Bread for Rosh Hashanah\n\nThis recipe makes two loaves of challah bread.\n\n* 1 tsp active dry yeast\n* 15 mL cannabis tincture of your choice, plus enough olive oil to make 1/2 cup total\n* 3 3/4 cups unbleached bread flour \n* 1 1/4 cup warm water\n* 1 3/4 tsp table salt\n\n### How to Make Cannabis-Infused Challah Bread for Rosh Hashanah\n\n1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast and 11/4 cups unbleached bread flour; whisk together until smooth. \n2. Leave the yeast uncovered to ferment for about 15–20 minutes, or until it begins to expand.\n3. Once the yeast has puffed up, add the oil and tincture mixture, as well as the salt; whisk thoroughly. \n4. Once the salt is completely dissolved, add the remaining 2 1/2 cups of unbleached flour. It may be easiest to use your hands to combine these ingredients. Add a tablespoon of flour at a time if the dough is too wet, or a tablespoon of water at a time if the dough is too dry. Continue to combine the ingredients until the dough can be formed into a ball. \n5. On a clean and floured surface, knead the dough using the heel of your palm to push the dough out. Then fold the dough in half and begin kneading again for 6–8 minutes.\n6. Once the dough is completely kneaded, fill a large mixing bowl with warm water. Let the water heat the bowl and then pour it out. Place the dough inside and cover it, leaving it to ferment for 2–3 hours. The dough should end up being three times the size as when it was originally. \n7. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Divide the dough in half for the 2 loaves. Divide each loaf into 3 pieces and braid it. Cover these loaves thoroughly with plastic wrap on top of the baking sheet and refrigerate for 8 hours. \nRemove the loaves from the refrigerator and take the plastic wrap off, covering the loaves with a clean dish towel loosely draped on top. Let them proof for 2 1/2 hours. They should expand significantly, up to 3 times the original size. \n8. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F and move a rack to the middle position with no racks above. Much of the [research on medical marijuana is happening in Israel](https://www.usnews.com/news/best-countries/articles/2017-04-11/israel-is-a-global-leader-in-marijuana-research), where medical marijuana laws allow for a growing cannabis industry. \r\n\r\nBut the connection between cannabis and the Jewish faith doesn’t only exist in the homeland. There are [kosher certifications for medical marijuana in New York](https://www.nytimes.com/2016/05/07/business/kosher-medical-marijuana-heads-to-market.html) and one Oregon couple even wrote a [marijuana-friendly Haggadah to be used during their cannabis Seder](http://orjewishlife.com/cannabis-conversations-what-does-judaism-say-about-oregons-new-legal-drug/). \r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\r\n\r\n### Is Cannabis Kosher for Passover?\r\n\r\nThere’s no definitive answer on whether cannabis is kosher for Passover. Some argue cannabis can be seen as the “bitter herb” included on Seder plates, while other Jewish communities insist that the plant is part of a group of non-kosher grains and legumes. \r\n\r\nIn 2013, Orthodox rabbi Efraim Zalmanovich ruled that [marijuana is indeed kosher for Passover if used for medical purposes](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/marijuana-is-kosher-for-passover-leading-rabbi-rules-a6995761.html). The plant, however, isn’t considered kosher if consumed recreationally. \r\n\r\nThat said, there really is no consensus on whether cannabis is kosher for Passover. For those considering a cannabis-infused Passover Seder, it may be worthwhile to discuss it with your rabbi and/or community. If you do decide cannabis is a kosher addition to your Passover celebration, here’s a medicated take on charoset, the paste made from fruit and nuts that’s traditionally eaten at the Passover Seder. \r\n\r\nRELATED: [DIY RECIPE: QUICK & EASY CANNABIS STRAIN-SPECIFIC TINCTURE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a621ef38425e40008273a30/diy-recipe-quick-and-easy-cannabis-strain-specific-tincture)\r\n\r\n### Ingredients for Marijuana-Infused Charoset\r\n\r\n* 6 red apples, cored and chopped\r\n\r\n* 2 lemons\r\n\r\n* 2 cups walnuts\r\n\r\n* 1 1/2 tsp honey\r\n\r\n* 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon\r\n\r\n* 1/2 tsp kosher salt\r\n\r\n* 1/3 cup kosher sweet red wine \r\n\r\n* 1–2 mL [cannabis tincture](https://www.hellomd.com/products) (Note: You can use a high-CBD tincture if you want to avoid psychoactive effects.)\r\n\r\n* Matzo for serving\r\n\r\n### How to Make Marijuana-Infused Charoset \r\n\r\n1.\tPeel and core the apples, then chop them into quarters. Place the apple chunks into a food processor and pulse until they’re coarsely chopped. Then move the apples from the food processor to a large mixing bowl. Add the walnuts to the food processor and pulse until coarsely chopped. Once finished, remove the walnuts and add to the mixing bowl with the apples. \r\n\r\n2.\tIf you want to offer infused and non-infused charoset options, now’s the time to divide the apple base into two. Be sure to label the bowl that will be infused so you don’t get them confused.\r\n\r\n3.\tAdd the sugar, honey, cinnamon and salt. Mix well until all ingredients are combined and then stir in the kosher red wine. Add 1–2 mL of cannabis tincture to the half that you want infused with cannabis. \r\n\r\n4.\tLet the charoset mixtures chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving with matzo.\r\n\r\nServes 4–6\r\n\r\nAs always, make sure all of your guests know which foods are infused. While the dose included in this recipe is relatively low, the serving dish should be marked clearly so folks can decide for themselves whether to opt into a cannabis-infused Seder celebration. \r\n\r\nPhoto credit: [Robert Couse-Baker](https://www.flickr.com/people/29233640@N07/)\r\n\r\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our Cannabis 101 post.
