I've never been a great sleeper. I've tried various sleep aids, from melatonin to Ambien to boiling lettuce and drinking the leftover water. Yes, apparently, this makes some people tired. \n\nNot getting enough rest negatively impacts our well-being, and it's hard to go through life constantly tired. According to the [Cleveland Clinic](https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/12119-insomnia#:~:text=People%20with%20insomnia%20can't,changes%20can%20improve%20your%20rest.), lack of sleep can lead to health problems like **diabetes**, **hypertension**, and even **weight gain**. My journey with sleepless nights caused me to be moody and less productive during the day. This is no fun, and I realize I am not alone in this journey.\n\nOne natural solution has worked for me, though - **medical marijuana**. It [helps me get to sleep](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/dreaming-of-better-sleep-cannabis-may-help) without my normal tossing and turning, and it also helps me stay asleep!\n\n![Hello9-min (2).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello9_min_2_23a3f2a18e.png)\n\n### How Weed Helps With Sleep\n\nThere are various [terpenes](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/what-are-cannabis-terpenes-and-how-do-they-work) and [cannabinoids](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cannabinoids-chemical-compounds-with-huge-therapeutic-potential) found within the cannabis plant. Each of them has varying functions which interact with our [endocannabinoid system (ECS)](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/what-is-the-endocannabinoid-system#:~:text=The%20endocannabinoid%20system%20regulates%20autophagy,keep%20the%20whole%20body%20healthy.) \n\nBelow is a list of cannabinoids found to help people et a better night’s rest.\n\nI did a considerable amount of research on weed as a sleep aid and found a hefty amount of science to back it up. According to a 2008 study, consuming higher levels of [Tetrahydrocannabinol\n(THC)](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-thc-vs-cbd) typically reduces the amount of REM sleep, which means you'll spend less time in \"deep sleep.\" Another study found that [THC helps to reduce the time it takes to fall asleep](http://files7.webydo.com/92/9209805/UploadedFiles/5E9EC245-448E-17B2-C7CA-21C6BDC6852D.pdf). It’s advised to [consume smaller quantities of THC.](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28349316/); more significant amounts of THC may keep you awake.\n\nOne of the other most common cannabinoids is [cannabidiol (CBD)](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/what-is-cbd-and-how-can-it-help-me) which has been shown to [affect serotonin levels in the brain](https://archives.drugabuse.gov/testimonies/2015/biology-potential-therapeutic-effects-cannabidiol), helping reduce anxiety and calm the mind. In one study, CBD promotes sleep and [increased sleep scores in 67% of adults within one month](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30624194/). CBD is also thought to [help with the release of cortisol](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6326553/pdf/18-041.pdf), which acts as a sedative in consumers. \n\n![Hello4-min (23).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello4_min_23_489cb45ba1.png)\n\nAnother lesser-known cannabinoid is [cannabinol (CBN)](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/the-cbn-cannabinoid-affects-your-health), which reduced stress and anxiety in some studies. It is also thought that CBN enhances the impact of THC and CBD. This cannabinoid is created through the oxidation and decomposition of THC. When THC is heated and exposed to Co2 (oxygen), it will convert to CBN over time.\n\nLastly, [Cannabigerol (CBG)](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/beyond-thc-and-cbd-what-you-need-to-know-about-cbc-cbn-and-cbg) has been touted as a powerful pain reliever, which can help some people get to sleep and stay asleep. Research on CBG is limited but shows it may also reduce inflammation and nausea and work to slow the proliferation of cancer cells.\n\n### What Cannabis Products Are Best for Sleep?\n\nWith so many weed products today, it's hard to know which cannabis product to choose. In my recent experimentation, I found that some work far better than others. This review covers my experience with the [Wana Optimals Fast Asleep gummies](https://www.wanabrands.com/collections/shop-all/). \n\n![Hello1-min (9).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello1_min_9_c6fbd4012b.png)\n\n### Review: Wana Optimals Fast Asleep Gummies\n\nI won't lie; I'm often skeptical about [marijuana edibles](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/consuming-cannabis-edibles-to-improve-your-health) and how they might affect me. I've had some bad experiences of feeling too high for too long. But these edibles are in lower doses and help me fall asleep and stay asleep longer. \n\nSo I purchased a pack of the [Fast Asleep gummies](https://www.wanabrands.com/products/gummies/optimals/optimals-fast-asleep-rec) from a dispensary in Denver. I was instantly intrigued by the packaging. It reads, \"*feel sleepy in 5-15 minutes*.\" What's not to love there?\n\nThe package of 10 edible gummies cost me $25. Each gummy contains a total of:\n \n- 10mg CBD\n- 2mg CBN\n- 2mg CBG \n- 2mg THC \n- 1mg melatonin\n\nOther ingredients include 30+ sleep-inducing terpenes, the chemical compounds that give cannabis its unique smell, taste, and effects. Some terpenes do a great job calming the mind and the body, reducing stress, inducing relaxation, and encouraging restful sleep.\n\nAbout 30 minutes before bed, I popped my first Wana gummy, which tasted great. It's like chewing on a berry covered in sugar. Plus, they're gluten-free and sweetened naturally.\n\nI must have been awake for seven minutes after eating the Fast Asleep gummy before I was fast asleep. The following day I woke up feeling well-rested with no hangover.\n\nI was delighted with my experience trying [Wana Optimals Fast Asleep edibles](https://www.wanabrands.com/collections/shop-all/), and they're now a part of my nightly routine. If you want to learn more about this product or find out where to purchase them for yourself, visit Wana's website.\n\n### Get Your Medical Document & Purchase Medical Cannabis\n\nIt's easy to get your medical document with the online [Telehealth service HelloMD](https://hellomd.com/get-started). Why do some patients choose [marijuana edibles over flower](https://hellomd.com/articles/the-differences-between-edibles-and-flowers)? Aside from being smoke-free, the effects of cannabis edibles are more potent and longer-lasting than smoking or vaping. For this reason, many patients choose edibles to treat insomnia, chronic pain, and side effects from severe illnesses like cancer. \n\nIt takes about one to two hours to feel the effects of edibles because the **Tetrahydrocannabinol** (**THC**) is digested and processed by the liver. For anyone who uses medicinal marijuana, making appetizing recipes is one of the most enjoyable and convenient ways to get a dose of your cannabis. Here’s a simple recipe for **marijuana cookies**— including instructions on how to make the key ingredient, [cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter).\n\n![Hello5-min (12).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello5_min_12_acd41ab412.png)\n\n### Before Making Your Marijuana Cookies, First Make Cannabutter\n\nThe key ingredient in marijuana chocolate chip cookies is cannabis-infused butter, also known as [cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter). Making cannabutter involves a little bit of time, but it's relatively easy to whip up and is useful for making a wide variety of marijuana edibles, including medicated brownies and other baked goods.\n\nThere are [two methods for making cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter). This is perhaps the most time-consuming part of making your marijuana chocolate chip cookies as it can take from two to 24 hours, depending on the method you choose. The good news is that once the cannabutter is made, there should be enough to then make multiple batches of these marijuana cookies or other cannabis-infused recipes.\n\n![Hello2-min (15).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello2_min_15_d3cf6011c9.png)\n\n### Getting Your Ingredients for Your Marijuana Chocolate Chip Cookies\n\nAfter you’ve prepared the cannabutter, it's time to get the other necessary ingredients together for your cannabis chocolate chip cookies. Overall, this is a relatively easy recipe that should produce about **30 cookies and take about 45 minutes in total**, including prep and baking time. \n\nHere are the ingredients necessary to make this marijuana cookies recipe:\n\n* 3/4 cup cannabutter\n* 2 large eggs\n* 1 cup packed dark brown sugar\n* 1/2 cup white sugar\n* 1 tbsp vanilla extract\n* 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour\n* 3/4 tsp baking soda\n* 1/2 teaspoon fine salt\n* 1 bag (12 oz) semisweet or dark chocolate chips\n* Optional: 1 cup walnuts, chopped, or 1/2 cup pretzels, crushed, for extra texture\n\n![Hello4-min (13).png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Hello4_min_13_6d7d920124.png)\n\n### Making Your Marijuana Chocolate Chip Cookies\n\n1.  Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (turn on the convection setting if the oven has it).\n2.  Next, grease two cookie sheets with normal butter or line them with parchment paper. If you only have one baking sheet, let it cool down completely before using it for the second batch of cookies.\n3.  In a small saucepan, melt the cannabutter and then allow it to cool down slightly. Alternatively, place the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in bursts of 30 seconds until it's completely melted.\n4.  Place the eggs, brown and white sugars, and vanilla in a large bowl. Add the melted butter and whisk until the contents are smooth.\n5.  Then, in a separate bowl, whisk the flour, baking soda, and salt. Once the dry ingredients are incorporated, slowly stir the dry ingredients in with the wet ingredients. Do not overmix.\n6.  Fold in the chocolate chips and the other optional ingredients, if using.\n7.  Scoop out about 1/4 cup of cookie dough for each cookie and drop it into the prepared pans. Ensure there are about 2–3 inches between each marijuana cookie.\n8.  Bake cookies for 12 to 16 minutes. Cookies baked for shorter periods of time will be chewier while cookies baked longer will be crunchier. Wait for the pan to cool for a few minutes before you transfer the marijuana cookies to a rack for cooling.\n9.  Store the marijuana chocolate chip cookies in a sealed container. They should last for about five days.\n\nUltimately, this cannabis cookie recipe is designed to give you the perfect marijuana chocolate chip cookie. As medical cannabis consumers increasingly embrace elements of the foodie movement, expect more interesting and useful recipes incorporating cannabis on the horizon.\n\nIf you're new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Too sweet, too sticky, too large, poorly packaged, too slow to come on and unpredictable with their effect. Lately however, I have discovered a new best friend that comes in a little tin box, and her name is ‘Kiva’ – the perfect marijuana edible.\n\nKiva Terra Bites are made by Kiva Confections one of the leading edible’s manufacturers in California. Their factory in Oakland, and the founding story of the company is impressive, and a wonderful example of how the thriving cannabis industry is uplifting the economy and providing opportunity to thousands of small businesses and their employees. \n\nFounders Kristi Knoblich and her partner Scott Palmer, were both photographers when the economy turned south in 2008. With prospects for photography work dimming, they started growing in their garden to help make ends meet. Upon visiting dispensaries to sell their crop, they observed a gap in the market for lab tested, professionally packaged and labeled edibles, that actually tasted good. With Kiva Confections, they set about meeting this apparent opportunity. \n\nTheir first product – The chocolate bar– sold well. But it was not long before they innovated further with a focus on the wonderful expresso bean, and the Kiva Terra Bite was created.\n\nKristi explains: \n\n“Patients began asking us for a smaller portion of our bars. They would make a motion with their hands, indicating a small, palm sized serving of chocolate.  Scott concluded the chocolate covered espresso bean would fit the description of what they were looking for. The small, simple serving size would promise consumers convenience and the ability to dial down their dose, thereby mitigating their over consumption. And so, Terra was born in November of 2013.  That’s what our company is all about: creating innovative ways people to consume cannabis, and have a positive experience!”\n\nKristi personally showed me around their impressive facility, and I watched in amazement as the espresso beans were created in large, turning cement mixer looking machines, each one carefully and skillfully manned by a production specialist. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/582365ed65e8fd0008884100/embedded_images/582366cf65e8fd0008884107/Screen_Shot_2016-11-09_at_9.58.44_AM.png)\n\n**Kristi inspects one of the chocolate panning machines**\n\nKristi on how they learned the art of covering espresso beans with chocolate:\n\n“We spent some time in Ohio, learning the art of panning from the panning Guru, Kevin Dolan, who has since passed away. Panning is the process of coating the beans or berries in chocolate until they become the target size; it’s like the snowball effect. Now Kiva has a team of expert panners, and they practice their art right here in our facility in Oakland. Our Terra Espresso beans and blueberries have become our most popular products.”\n\nSo why is this the perfect edible, and why have I become such a fan?\n\n#### Portion Size (and dose)\nEach chocolate bean contains 5mg of THC. This makes dosing (or micro dosing) easy and consistent. Just eat as many beans as you want to dose. I personally like to take two beans together, and then might add a third about an hour later. This 10 – 15mg range puts me in a wonderful, happy mood for the evening, enhances the sound of music and leaves me sharp enough to cook and enjoy a delicious meal with my family. It’s the perfect Friday night wind down after a stressful week. \n\n#### Delicious Taste\nThere is no hint of cannabis in the flavor. It’s just a combination of great tasting dark chocolate (which I love) and roasted espresso coffee bean which you just chew up once the chocolate has gone. I am not sure the espresso bean is enough to provide a wake-up kick, but it might, and I personally don’t enjoy getting sleepy with cannabis and so this is an added bonus. \n  \n#### Convenient \nThe beans come in a little round tin, and are easy to pack and carry. There is no wrapper to create trash, or look unsightly as partially unwrapped chocolate does. I have taken the beans camping with me, and to others houses as a dinner guest. Everybody seems to love them!\n\n#### Fast Acting\nI have eaten edibles that take a full two hours to take effect, which is really too long for my purposes.  I can't say why, but my experience with Terra Bites is that you usually feel them within 20 minutes of dosing. Perhaps it's something to do with the chocolate delivery.\n\nAll I can say in conclusion, is that I now keep a ready supply of these wonderful treats. Please don't take them away!\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.1111111111111112,"src":"/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/14b42/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.jpg","srcSet":"/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/f836f/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.jpg 200w,\n/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/2244e/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.jpg 400w,\n/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/14b42/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.jpg 800w,\n/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/433c6/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.jpg 1135w","srcWebp":"/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/58556/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/61e93/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.webp 200w,\n/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/1f5c5/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.webp 400w,\n/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/58556/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.webp 800w,\n/static/65fd7abc8ab246eaa103856a33b3f117/b6e4e/6d4786ff94ae9014c48cf10bd4431662.webp 1135w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2167-markdown","title":"Cannabis Tourism: Your 420 Holiday","slug":"cannabis-tourism-your-420-holiday","content":"### Cannabis Tourism is Hot\n\nCannabis tourism is one of the newest phenomenons in the marijuana industry. It can range from vineyard like tours of cannabis farms and grow houses, to cannabis friendly accommodations, to cannabis themed tours of various cities. States that have legalized recreational cannabis have not yet embraced cannabis tourism on a state level, but many people are still drawn to cannabis legal states for the opportunity to legally indulge in marijuana. \n\nCannabis cafes, similar to those popular in Amsterdam, are still illegal in most states across the country, though the tide is beginning to change on that issue. Colorado currently only allows for smoking to take place in personal residences, but Denver has a new initiative on the ballot to allow for cannabis cafes within the city limits that would provide people with an Amsterdam-like cannabis experience in their own country. \n\nDue to laws that prohibit public smoking, [edibles tend to be a very popular](https://www.hellomd.com/products?category=Edibles) option for people coming from out of state. In the state of Colorado, someone from out of state can buy up to 0.25 oz of marijuana flowers at any given time, but that restriction doesn't apply to edibles. Though Colorado does not have any cannabis cafes, it does have cannabis friendly accommodations. Most Colorado hotels still have fairly strict no smoking bans, which relates to both tobacco and cannabis, but AirBnB and HomeAway have many listings in recreational legal states that say they are “420 friendly” to provide people with good accommodations for cannabis tourism. \n\nRELATED: [ESSENTIALS ABOUT EDIBLES YOU NEED TO KNOW](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/essentials-about-edibles-that-you-need-to-know)\n\n### Marijuana Friendly Hotels\n\n[Bud and Breakfast](http://www.budandbfast.com) is an AirBnB style website that provides people with a list of accommodations that are marijuana friendly. The website is filled with various Bed & Breakfasts across the state of Colorado that include events like breakfast paired with a nice assortment of sativa strains and 420 happy hour events. Currently the website lists four hotels across Colorado, but they are continuing to add more locations as cannabis themed tourism becomes more popular. \n\nMarijuana themed tours of cities like Denver and Seattle are also very popular among crowds eager to learn about the world of cannabis. There are many different tour companies that focus on cannabis themed tours of cities that are tailored to the must see marijuana related sites in the city. The tours include everything from showing people the top dispensaries in the city, sometimes with some added discounts, to tours of grow facilities. Some tours even include information about strains and education about different cannabinoids and the pros and cons of different administration methods. \n\nMarijuana tourism also draws people into California who are interested in trying medical marijuana to help them with their various medical conditions. [Kush Tourism](http://kushtourism.com), a company that provides people who are interested in cannabis tourism with a place to find more information, lists cannabis friendly accommodations in California, and many other marijuana legal states. There are accommodations in Palm Springs, Los Angeles, San Fransisco, and Sacramento, all of which are cannabis friendly if you have a California-issued medical marijuana card. Though some of the accommodations do not allow smoking, they do allow for cannabis consumption in other forms like edibles or vaporizers. \n\n### California is the Next Big Market\n\nCannabis tourism is just beginning to get off the ground in the United States and we are likely to see even more changes in the coming years. California will likely become a new market for cannabis tourism if recreational cannabis becomes legal in the state in the coming year. Colorado’s new regulations could serve to open up more opportunities for cannabis specific tourism, as well. This past year the website Visit Denver found that there were no higher numbers of hotel reservations on April 20th, the famous 4/20 holiday, than any other time of year, but if cannabis cafes begin to open and more locations that are designed for enjoying cannabis are available to people, the more tourism they are likely to attract. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/581a2c4655e441000b0b516e/embedded_images/581a2c4f55e441000b0b516f/Screen_Shot_2016-11-02_at_11.03.12_AM.png)\nTravel & Leisure has even written an [article](http://www.travelandleisure.com/articles/colorado-pot-tourism-hospitality-group) about cannabis tourism.\n \nCannabis tourism is a great way to experience marijuana in a legal way, but it is important to educate yourself before you embark on a trip where cannabis is involved. Each state has different rules and regulations, some of which are different based on if you live in the state or not, so it is important that you understand the rules of the state you are traveling to. But maybe you didn’t feel like the marijuana gave you the results you were after. What if we told you that eating your cannabis can be the best way to fall asleep and stay asleep? It’s true—many people who suffer from insomnia and other sleep issues say that eating marijuana edibles before bedtime is the best way to help ease yourself into sleep. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Why do Marijuana Edibles Work?\n\nEdible marijuana products, such as marijuana cookies, dosed chocolate and any other foods made with cannabutter or cannabis cooking oil—and even cannabis teas—are great for treating sleep disorders because their effects last longer than vaping or smoking. \n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS-INFUSED BUTTER RECIPE. MAKE YOUR OWN](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/cannabis-infused-butter-recipe-make-your-own)\n\nWhen you eat a marijuana edible, the cannabis goes through your digestive system and is processed by the liver. The liver then sends the signal to your brain to make you feel altered. That journey also takes longer than inhaled cannabis so after eating an edible cannabis product, you won’t feel the effects for around an hour (everyone’s body is different, so this can vary) and then you can expect the cannabis’s effects to last as long as eight hours, just enough time to get though a full sleep cycle and feel truly rested in the morning. \n\n### The Best Edible Cannabis Products to Treat Insomnia\n\nMarijuana edibles can be an easy and discrete way to add cannabis to your nightly routine and help ease insomnia symptoms. There are so many cannabis products on the market, here are a few of our favorites:\n\n\n#### 1. Cannabis Blueberry Bites From Kiva\n\n[Kiva’s Blueberry Bites are a delicious chocolate and blueberry confection](https://hellomd.com/products/5780034cfa0254000b000058/)  that provides insomnia relief in bite-sized servings. The small size of the blueberry bites gives you greater control over dosing, which is perfect for marijuana edibles as it sometimes takes time to figure out how much you need for the effects you’re looking for.\n\nKiva creates their edible cannabis chocolate bites using United States-grown blueberries which are dried, coated in cocoa powder, then covered in cannabis-infused milk chocolate. There are 5 mg of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) per blueberry bite; each tin contains 24 bite-sized blueberry treats. \n\n#### 2. Cannabis Chocolate Chip Cookies from MoonMan’s Mistress\n\nMoonMan’s Mistress Chocolate Chip Crater Cookies are great guilt-free, cannabis-infused goodies. The cookies are made with quality ingredients like coconut oil, organic eggs and almond flour—perfect for folks who have food restrictions or need to follow specific diets. The cookies are gluten free, paleo, soy free, dairy free and low glycemic, sweetened with maple syrup, which is filled with beneficial antioxidants. The cookies get their medicinal kick from cannabis-infused coconut oil. MoonMan’s Mistress also uses organically grown cannabis in their products; each two-cookie package contains 25 mg of THC. \n\n#### 3. Marijuana Tranquili-Tea from Kikoko\n\nThe cannabis tea [Tranquili-Tea from Kikoko](https://www.hellomd.com/products/58dc2cfe53635624bf2a4992/tranquili-tea) not only contains chamomile, renowned for its sleep-inducing properties, but also the cannabinoid cannabinol (CBN). THC turns into CBN when exposed to oxygen or UV light. CBN has a sedative effect and doesn’t cause any psychoactive effects so it’s just the ingredient you should be looking for to treat insomnia, sleep apnea, narcolepsy and more. \n\nSteep your Tranquili-Tea teabag in boiling water for a few minutes and sip the soothing drink a bit before bedtime so that the active ingredients kick in at just the right time. This tea does contain a small amount of THC so you may feel elevated, but the effects should be slight. \n\n#### 4. Marijuana-Infused Bliss Blossoms from Garden Society\n\n[Garden Society’s delicious two-bite chocolates](https://www.hellomd.com/products/58d9b00bb0a114000db875c2/bliss-blossoms) are infused with passion flower as well as a calming hybrid cannabis strain to promote sleep. She also teaches iRest meditation with OperationEVAC (Educating Veterans About Cannabis). She has written and edited various cannabis articles for digital and print media, and enjoys educating patients brand new to cannabis on all the wonderful benefits this plant has to offer. In her first article, Jaene talks about how to dose edibles\n\n### What's a Phytocannabinoid?\n\nHere’s the most amazing thing about cannabis medicine: it’s got a special design in mind just for you! Because of the DEA’s Schedule I classification of cannabis deeming it without medicinal value, research in the U.S. has been slow and limited. Though scientists worldwide have only scratched the surface on the far-reaching benefits of the plant’s numerous phytocannabinoids, experiential evidence puts the number of ailments which can be treated with cannabis in the dozens, if not hundreds. Some hundred or so phytocannabinoids exist in the plant, though currently, only a few have been isolated and are being put to work in cannabis medicine formulations. Of the six most prominently used - CBD, CBDA, THC, THCA, CBN and CBG -- THC is the only one that is psychoactive. (CBN, which is aged THC, is considered to be mildly psychoactive).\n\n### You are Unique\n\nEvery body is different, there is no one-size-fits-all for cannabis medicine. So, unlike the western medical model, in which we’ve willingly turned our wellness over to the (presumed) wisdom of the person in a white coat, cannabis medicine requires that YOU experiment and find just the right method of delivery and dosage for you -- whether it be edibles, flower, concentrate, topicals, tinctures, or some combination thereof. As you enter into this experiment, mindfulness is key. Keep a journal. Write down what you’re taking, the dose, the effects, what you liked, and what you didn’t like. Return to the entry later, when the dose/effects have worn off. Write some more about your experience. Return to these entries often, for reference, until you know what works for you!\n\n### The Bad Edibles Trip\n\nEdibles are serious (and, often, seriously delicious) medicine. A bad THC edible trip is just not fun. It usually goes something like this:\n\n>You take a bite of the edible.\n\n>You forget it was a dose of MEDICINE, because, hey! It doesn’t even taste like weed! \n\n>You wait a few minutes. Maybe a half hour. Nothing happens. You’re getting impatient.\n\n>The edible taunts you. “I’m delicious. I don’t taste like weed! Eat me.”\n\n>Despite the fact that you’ve educated yourself, and/or been warned about the potency of the edible, you fold under the temptation. You take another bite. Maybe two. Or maybe - gulp - you finish the entire edible.\n\n>Two hours later, you’re higher than you’ve ever been, and it isn’t necessarily a good experience. \n\n>You’re paranoid, anxious, fearful. Maybe you believe you are dying or have died. It’s dark. The darkest you’ve ever felt.\n\n>Perhaps you get nauseous. Maybe the room spins. You might vomit. \n\n>And it goes on like this for hours and hours…\n\n### How Edibles Work\n\nEdibles are cannabis-infused foods -- candies, cookies, pretzels, gummies, popcorn, chocolate bars, capsules, drinks -- with new products coming to market every day. THC edibles can be very powerful medicine, (and, according to at least two studies, so can [CBD edibles which just may turn into THC in stomach acid](http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/pdfplus/10.1089/can.2015.0004)). Once an edible is swallowed, THC works its way through the gastrointestinal system before it is broken down in the liver and distributed out into the bloodstream, producing the high felt in the body and mind. This entire process can take two hours or more, depending on an individual’s metabolism. The peak of the THC high can last up to six hours and residual effects may be felt for more than ten hours. You can see why edibles are NOT recommended for people who are brand new  to cannabis and have never experienced a THC high. It is also not recommended for anyone with eating disorders or food compulsions. (For cannabis novices, it’s best to try a different method of delivery, such as tinctures or inhalation.). A bad edible experience could cause someone who might otherwise really benefit from cannabis to swear if off completely. \n\n### The 'Dowd Effect'\n\nTwo years ago, Maureen Dowd wrote a cautionary piece for the New York Times in which she recounted a less-than-pleasurable evening of overdoing it with an edible at her hotel room in Denver. Colorado tour operator and Dowd’s dispensary chaperone Matt Brown disputed the piece, saying Dowd had been warned during the four or so hours she spent with him while shopping for cannabis. Regardless of the she-said, he-said, Dowd’s piece spurred a Colorado edible dosing education campaign and birthed the slogan. Start Low and Go Slow. (SLaGS). If you’re thinking of trying edibles, or really ANY method of delivery for cannabis, consider this your mantra. Learn it. Practice it. Share it with others. \n\nAre you taking any other medications? Be sure to ask your doctor about any possible drug interactions. If your doctor gives you the okay, be sure to wait at least a couple of hours after taking other medications before taking your edible dose.\n\n\n### How to Dose Your Edible\n\n>Take your first edible dose in the privacy of your own home, at a time when you can relax, preferably a couple of hours before bedtime.\n\n>Never take an edible on an empty stomach!\n\n>Never take an edible with alcohol!\n\n>5-15 milligrams is considered in the cannabis world a starter dose, but remember this is powerful medicine and effects range from person to person. SLaGS!\n\n>If you’re brand new to cannabis, start with a microdose of 1.0 - 2.5 milligrams.\n\n>Cut/tear/pull your desired dose off the edible, put it aside.\n\n>Wrap up the rest of the edible and put it away.\n\n>Consume your edible.\n\n>Wait TWO HOURS for full effect. \n\n>Record the effects in your journal, if you are able.\n\n>After two hours, If necessary, consume another microdose 1.0 - 2.5 milligrams. If you find that you are too high, tell yourself this feeling will pass. (I promise it will!) \n\nOnce your edible is in full effect, go to bed! You’ll have a great night’s sleep!\nIf you should need to get up in the night for any reason, sit up slowly and wait until you have adjusted to any sensations you are experiencing. Depending on how long the edible has been in your system, you may still feel high or feel a bit groggy or sleepy. Go slowly and mindfully. When you wake up from the edible, record any further information in your journal. Share your newfound wisdom with others!\n\nDo you have questions about edibles? This has been forbidden in the past as marijuana has been considered part of the forbidden grains known as Kitniyot. This is significant as the Rabbi physically blessed the marijuana calling it ‘medicinal’.\r\n\r\n**The Medicating Bard:** Shakespeare death happened 400 years ago. It has been recently discovered that he smoked both marijuana as well as cocaine. Was this the source of his inspiration and creativity?\r\n\r\n**Yummy Gummy:** A bill received initial approval from the Colorado House of Representatives that would ban marijuana edibles in the shape of fruits, animals and people. We know that edibles can pose a safety hazard, but we question the efficacy of this particular bill.\r\n\r\n**DEA Clinical Trials:** It is official; the DEA has approved the first clinical trial that will test how marijuana may benefit our US veterans suffering from PTSD. Dr. Sue Sicily, our cannabis hero of the week, if not the year, will finally have her day and can move forward with this double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. This is big news!\r\n\r\n**Weedicure:** A new fashion trend seems to be emerging, it’s the weedicure. A nail salon in Silicon Valley started to crush marijuana and apply it to women’s nail tips. The trend seems to be spreading as more women ask for the application. Is it a fashion, passion or political statement?\r\n\r\n**What were they Smoking?:** This past week a Florida man was shot in a drive by shooting after attempting to sell lawn clippings in a mason jar for $120. Faux- cannabis, guns and Florida, it’s not a great combination.\r\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.6666666666666667,"src":"/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/3c17d/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.png","srcSet":"/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/69585/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.png 200w,\n/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/497c6/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.png 400w,\n/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/3c17d/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.png 720w","srcWebp":"/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/2aa8d/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/61e93/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.webp 200w,\n/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/1f5c5/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.webp 400w,\n/static/f1c7f356b065e0ade45cf3f2e6ed3631/2aa8d/962a6ce5a17bbdf5c4e9ac5266e594f2.webp 720w","sizes":"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2197-markdown","title":"What Is It About Mangoes and Marijuana?","slug":"what-is-it-about-mangoes-and-marijuana","content":"The number of ways to incorporate medical marijuana into your daily\nmedical regimen is almost as vast as the number of conditions cannabis\ncan beneficially impact. One newly popular pairing is between\nmedical cannabis and a tasty-but-somewhat-obscure fruit: the tropical\nmango.\n\n### All About the Mango\n\nNever tried a mango? You're in good company. Although this fruit is\nconsidered to be one of the more luscious of the tropical fruits, it's a\nmore recent addition to most diets. As it's become more widely\navailable, it's also grown exponentially in popularity. The mango\n[originates in India](http://www.mango.org/en/About-Mangos/Mango-Facts),\nand healers there have used the various parts of the mango for centuries\nin Eastern remedies.\n\nLike most fruits, mangoes are low in calories and chock full of\nnutritional value, particularly in Vitamin A and Vitamin C. And beyond\neating a mango all by itself, you can also add this fruit to chutneys,\nsalsas, fruit cocktails, fruity deserts or as juice in a drink. All by\nitself, mangoes are beneficial to your health. When mixed with cannabis,\nyou can enjoy a double dose of benefit.\n\n### Why Could Mango Go Well With Cannabis?\n\nMany cannabis pairings evolve around a compound that enhances both\nadditions. Mango and cannabis are no different. Both contain\n[terpenes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terpene) - an organic compound\nfound in many types of plants. Marijuana and mangoes specifically play\nhost to [myrcene](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myrcene) terpenes, which\nrepresent the scents associated with these and other natural substances.\nIn particular, terpenes are found where CBD and THC are in the plant\nmakeup of cannabis. These\n[terpenes](http://www.marijuana.com/blog/news/2012/07/mango-smoothies-increase-that-marijuana-high/)\nare responsible for slipping THC past the blood/brain barrier faster.\nInterestingly, mangos share these compounds with cannabis. That means\nthat when mangoes and cannabis are combined, they may be able to deliver\na one-two punch against your ailments.\n\nThink about it this way. When you eat a mango, as you would eat any\nother fruit, its components are dumped into your bloodstream not long\nafter the food reaches your stomach. In the case of mangoes and\nmarijuana being used in close timing with one another, the terpenes\nreleased from the mango into your bloodstream meet up with the myrcene\nterpenes from the THC in marijuana. And in addition to faster\nbioavailability, this double punch extends the efficacy of both as well.\n\nOne way in which the mango and marijuana combination that is\nparticularly important is in how fast your body feels the impact. By\ndoubling the availability of the beneficial properties, you can begin to\nexperience relief faster. And with many disorders - particularly those\nrelated to pain and inflammation - this added speed can be an added\nblessing.\n\n### Scientific Study of Mango and Marijuana Use\n\nUnfortunately, marijuana has not yet been\n[rescheduled](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5702d2cac43fac000c00006d/when-marijuana-is-rescheduled-by-the-feds)\nas a Schedule I controlled substance by the federal government.\nFurthermore, less than half of the states in the US have legalized\nmarijuana. Not only does this situation mean that many patients\ndesperate for relief are left without any access to cannabis, but it\nalso means that research - and important research dollars - are\nextraordinarily hampered. So while millions of patients can attest\nanecdotally to the impact of THC and CBD, and while limited studies show\npromise in its use, the science behind cannabis needs far more attention\nthan it's gotten thus far.\n\nEven with a lack in funding and research, previously conducted studies\ndo show promise. Consider findings about reduction in pain from\n[cancer](http://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/treatment/cam/patient/cannabis-pdq)\nstudies, the relief of muscle stiffness in [multiple\nsclerosis](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22791906) studies and the\napproval of marijuana byproducts for use in [FDA-approved\nmedications](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22791906) like\nDronabinal and Nabilone.\n\nThough no direct studies have been conducting comparing the effects of\nmarijuana and mangoes, some limited conclusions may be drawn. Of\nparticular interest is a [Texas A&M\nstudy](http://nfs.tamu.edu/2014/05/28/research-studies-show-mango-may-help-prevent-breast-cancer/)\nabout mangoes and breast cancer where researchers studied the\nanti-inflammatory properties of mangoes. As\n[marijuana](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2828614/) is\nalso considered to have anti-inflammatory properties, this gives a\nconvincing data point about how the combination of cannabis and mangoes\ncould be beneficial to some patients. Like other combinations, however,\ndifferent patients may experience far different results.\n\n### Going Forward With Mangoes - And Marijuana\n\nIt's important to discuss how medical marijuana may be beneficial as a\npart of your healthcare routine with your primary practitioner.\nUnfortunately, if you live in one of the [27 states that has yet to\nlegalize\nmarijuana](http://www.governing.com/gov-data/state-marijuana-laws-map-medical-recreational.html),\nyour hands many be tied. If you live in a state considering passing new\nmarijuana legislation, you can get involved in local efforts to support\nthe passage of relevant bills. You may also seek out practitioners in\nnearby states where marijuana use is already legal. Doing so may run you\nafoul of your local laws, however, so proceed at your own risk whenever\nyou have marijuana on your person in a state where it is illegal.\n\nIf you already do live in a state where marijuana use is legal, you can\nwork with your own practitioner or a specialist who is more\nknowledgeable about medical cannabis. What has been your experience so\nfar with medical marijuana? Have you had the opportunity to try mangoes\nand get even more value from your complementary therapies?\n\n[Photo Credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/magtravels/2522828363/in/photolist-8hcpSe-7hxbJ-8hfEb5-4QePcP-4Qj4fh-4Qj33N-kLV4xH-kKmJW6-aa3PG-8gKj9z-yjnsZ-cCVLKo-oqJuHk-aoPv4c-pXCbh-4QW9YK-4sUnX-8mFMMj-CY8iHX-5o1xtP)","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.4492753623188406,"src":"/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/e2e7f/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.png","srcSet":"/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/69585/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.png 200w,\n/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/497c6/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.png 400w,\n/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/e2e7f/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.png 675w","srcWebp":"/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/761da/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/61e93/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.webp 200w,\n/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/1f5c5/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.webp 400w,\n/static/9147c4dbe9103e847962f679385bb4fd/761da/1ceea37d3d7d287c8e2b1c186920965f.webp 675w","sizes":"(max-width: 675px) 100vw, 675px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2145-markdown","title":"Vegetable Glycerine Tincture: Recipe","slug":"vegetable-glycerine-tincture-recipe","content":"Are you struggling for an effective way to add medical marijuana to a\ndaily regimen? Although cannabis can be a great way of treating chronic\nconditions\nand their life-interrupting symptoms, not all patients want to use a\ntraditional consumption method like smoking or vaping. Fortunately,\nthere's more than one way to consume cannabis. One way, in particular,\nis creating a cannabis-infused vegetable glycerine tincture.\n\nWhat Is Vegetable Glycerine?\n----------------------------\n\nAlthough the term vegetable glycerine may sound unfamiliar, this\nparticular ingredient is found in many common foods - and it can be a\ngreat way to sneak cannabis into a diet. Vegetable glycerine is a\nbyproduct of compounds made in manufacturing, and the processed\nvegetables are usually genetically modified. That means that before\nmaking a vegetable glycerine tincture with cannabis, you should choose a\ngood and trustworthy source of high quality vegetable glycerine.\n\nUsing Vegetable Glycerine in Everyday Life\n------------------------------------------\n\nVegetable glycerine tends to have a very mild taste, meaning that it can\nbe added to nearly any food or beverage, or even consumed directly. When\na batch of cannabis-infused vegetable glycerine is made, it should be\nstored in a glass container (since metal containers can leach) and can\nbe used for up to a year.\n\nVegetable Glycerine Recipe\n--------------------------\n\nBefore mixing cannabis into vegetable glycerine, you should decide\nwhether or not you want to decarboxylate the cannabis buds.\nDecarboxylation uses heat to modify the THCA in cannabis to the \npsychoactive THC. Patients will need to weigh whether or not this would\nbe beneficial to their own care.\n\nCombine a half ounce of cannabis buds with 2 cups of high quality\nvegetable glycerine in a glass container that you can seal shut, such as\na Mason jar. Shake the container to thoroughly mix the cannabis and\nglycerine. Then, line a slow cooker with a towel and fill halfway with\nwater. Place the jar in the cooker and very slowly heat the mixture for\nabout 24 hours. Gently shake several times during the process, using\nheating pads to protect your hands from hot jars. The longer the\ntincture brews, the stronger it will be.\n\nAfter consistent warming, remove the jar carefully, shake well, take off\nthe lid and allow it to cool. Once cool, strain the cannabis-infused\nvegetable glycerine tincture, using a metal strainer or cheesecloth. The\nstrained buds can be used to make cannabis\ntea or to infuse other tinctures, beverages or foods. Store the remaining\nvegetable glycerine in a glass jar or a dropper bottle. Add this\ntincture as desired to coffee, tea, soup or nearly any other type of\nfood or beverage. Be careful, however, to add after cooking so that the\nconcentration is not further altered by heat.\n\nMaking Tinctures Faster\n-----------------------\n\nYou can save some time by using a [Magical Butter\nMachine](https://magicalbutter.com/). This machine comes with a specific\ntincture setting that can reduce the total time required from 24 hours\ndown to just 4 hours. Like the slow cooker method, timing can be\nadjusted to increase or decrease the strength of the cannabis\nconcentration in the vegetable glycerine. For a stronger tincture, run\nfor several of the 4-hour settings. If you're just starting out, run for\nless time to start with a weaker tincture.\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.342281879194631,"src":"/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/08045/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.jpg","srcSet":"/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/f836f/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.jpg 200w,\n/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/2244e/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.jpg 400w,\n/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/08045/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.jpg 799w","srcWebp":"/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/c622d/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/61e93/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.webp 200w,\n/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/1f5c5/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.webp 400w,\n/static/6525961f5809ec2b2afc3b60f252e1f1/c622d/6e047cc73024c3886237594769d5c805.webp 799w","sizes":"(max-width: 799px) 100vw, 799px"}}}}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":0,"numPages":3,"currentPage":1,"id":5224,"name":"Edibles","slug":"edibles","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
