What you need is a warm, filling meal to jumpstart your day. Breakfast kicks your metabolism into gear and prepares you for the day ahead, so it’s only right to do this important meal justice. \n\nThese two winter breakfast recipes are healthy and filling. And you can tailor them based on different dietary restrictions (one’s already gluten free, and the other is vegan). They’re both perfect to make ahead of time and are recipes you can easily infuse with cannabidiol (CBD). What more could you ask for?\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_us/?utm_medium=copy_link/)\n\n### Why Start Your Day With CBD?\n\nStarting your morning with CBD can set you on a path for a less stressful, more productive day. This is because CBD is known to:\n\n* Reduce stress\n* Ease inflammation \n* Promote focus\n\nAnd since these recipes include just a small amount of a hemp-derived CBD tincture, you don’t have to worry about fighting off drowsiness.\n\nRELATED: [WHAT IS HEMP CBD?](https://hellomd.com/articles/what-is-cbd-and-how-can-it-help-me/) \n\n### Ingredients for Gluten-Free CBD Egg Stuffed Tomatoes\n\nWith four servings, this healthy recipe can be made ahead of time and reheated as you need it. And if you’re a busy parent making breakfast for the entire family, this recipe makes it easy to infuse your serving separately—CBD for the adults and none for the kids. \n\n* 4 ripe tomatoes\n* 2 pieces of bacon, cooked (optional)\n* 4 eggs\n* 4 mL of hemp-derived CBD tincture \n\n### How to Make Gluten-Free CBD Egg Stuffed Tomatoes\n\n1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. \n2. Line a muffin pan with aluminum foil, indenting the foil into the muffin wells. \n3. Next, core the tomatoes by cutting off about 1 inch from the top and using a spoon to scoop out the inside. \n4. Set each tomato into a muffin well. \n5. If you’re including bacon, dice it up into small pieces. \n6. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and CBD tincture. If you only want to infuse some but not all of the tomatoes, separate your eggs into two batches and only add CBD to one of them. \n7. Once the eggs are whisked, fill each tomato to right below the brim and add some bacon. \n8. Bake for 20–25 minutes and enjoy. \n\n### Ingredients for CBD-Infused Pan-Seared Blueberry Oatmeal \n\nThis is a breakfast option that you can and should make partially in advance. Add it into your Sunday meal prep routine and have seven breakfasts ready to go for the entire week.\n\n* 1 1/2 cups steel cut oats\n* 2 cups coconut milk (any nut milk will work)\n* 2 cups water\n* 1/3 cup brown sugar\n* 1/8 tsp salt\n* 2 tbsp coconut oil (any other type of cooking oil will work too)\n* 2 cups fresh blueberries  \n* 1 cup honey \n* 7 mL of hemp-derived CBD tincture\n\n### How to Make CBD-Infused Pan Seared Blueberry Oatmeal\n\nFor this recipe, you’ll make the oatmeal ahead of time so it can cool for at least an hour (but can last in the fridge for up to a week). \n\n1. To make the oatmeal, combine water, coconut milk, brown sugar, CBD tincture and oats in a large saucepan and bring to a boil. \n2. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20 minutes. \n3. Once the oatmeal mixture has thickened, pour it into a bread pan and let cool at room temperature for at least an hour. This step is very important, so don’t rush it. \n4. Once the oatmeal has cooled, it will have a consistency that’s more like a dense bread, making it very easy to slice and sear. \n5. Cut the cooled oatmeal into 7 even slices. \n6. Heat the coconut oil or cooking oil of your choice in a frying pan on medium-high heat. \n7. Place 1 slice of oatmeal onto the pan and sear both sides until a crispy, golden outer layer develops. Repeat now with the remaining slices or sear a fresh slice each day.\n8. Top with honey and fresh blueberries and enjoy.\n\nPhoto credit: [Brooke Lark](https://unsplash.com/@brookelark) \n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.3793103448275863,"src":"/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/14b42/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg","srcSet":"/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/f836f/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg 200w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/2244e/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg 400w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/14b42/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg 800w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/47498/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg 1200w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/0e329/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg 1600w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/df038/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.jpg 3670w","srcWebp":"/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/58556/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/61e93/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp 200w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/1f5c5/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp 400w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/58556/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp 800w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/99238/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp 1200w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/7c22d/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp 1600w,\n/static/07f9b66de6d1cfb3deb35c658cd1d15b/9122a/1393bd351cffba794d4b7109afa641a6.webp 3670w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2886-markdown","title":"DIY Recipe: Cannabis-Infused Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies","slug":"diy-recipe-cannabis-infused-chocolate-chip-pecan-cookies","content":"Who doesn’t love a good cookie? We’ll all probably be indulging a little over the holidays, so why not make some sweet treats as a nighttime snack that helps you unwind, relax and sleep.\n\nThese cookies are my go-to for helping with my insomnia. Because edible cannabis gets processed through the liver, the marijuana’s effects last longer, so they help keep me asleep at night. When I run out of these cookies, I definitely notice a drop in my quality of sleep. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_us/?utm_medium=copy_link/)\n\nThese chocolate chip pecan cookies could also make great holiday gifts for the person on your list who’s in need of some delicious medicine. Or they could be a fun addition to your holiday cookie exchange. Just be sure the other participants are on board with a medicated cookie before serving. \n\nThe two major ingredients that help make these cookies taste like cookies first and medicine second are the nutmeg and the nuts. Though take care not to add too much nutmeg as it can overpower. Meanwhile, nuts also do an excellent job of masking excess cannabis flavor. I like to use pecans, because not only are they tasty, but they’re also:\n\n* Full of fiber\n* Have anti-inflammatory benefits \n* Are packed with antioxidants\n\nFor anyone with a nut allergy, simply leave out the nuts and add extra chocolate chips. If you don’t like pecans, walnuts work well, too. Feel free to experiment.\n\nA lot in this recipe depends on your cannabutter. You may need more nuts or nutmeg to optimize the flavor of these cookies, depending on how your cannabutter tastes.\n\nSpeaking of cannabutter, [check out our handy instructions on how to make it](https://hellomd.com/articles/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter/r) if you’re new to cooking with cannabis. \n\nI often make my cannabutter into [brown butter](https://www.marthastewart.com/1506792/brown-butter-recipe-how-why) or [ghee](https://www.myrecipes.com/special-diet/what-is-ghee). This not only tastes great, but also significantly extends the life of the butter. \n\nIf you want to go with brown butter or ghee, allow it to cool first before you start using it. If mixed in when hot, the dough will spread more, giving you thinner, wider cookies. You’ll also want to add an extra egg and an extra 2 oz of butter if you go this route.\n\nThis style of cookie can be used with any varietal of cannabis, so you can use them for different purposes. Because I make these cookies to help me sleep, I use one of my homegrown indica strains to make the cannabutter, and I eat one cookie about an hour before I go to bed. \n\nRELATED: [3 POPULAR QUESTIONS ABOUT MARIJUANA & EDIBLES ANSWERED](https://hellomd.com/articles/3-popular-questions-about-marijuana-and-edibles-answered/)\n\nSince the butter, a person’s cannabis tolerance and other factors affect the dosage, strength and effects of these cookies, be cautious when trying out your first batch—start low and go slow.\n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies\n\nThis recipe makes approximately 36 cookies (3–4 inches in diameter)\n\n* 2 3/4 cups of all-purpose flour \n* 8 oz cannabutter\n* 1 packed cup light brown sugar \n* 1 cup white sugar \n* 2 tsp kosher salt\n* 1 tsp baking soda\n* 1/2 tsp baking powder\n* 1/2 tsp nutmeg (adjust to taste)\n* 1 tbsp vanilla extract\n* 1 large egg\n\nAdjust filling to preference, but for this recipe:\n* 2 cups dark chocolate chips (I use 55–65%, but less is fine)\n* 1 cup chopped pecans \n\n### How to Make Cannabis-Infused Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies\n\n1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.\n2. Add butter, brown and white sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, vanilla extract and nutmeg to a stand mixer bowl.\n3. Start the stand mixer on low speed until the ingredients look moist and then up to medium speed for approximately 5 minutes, until the mixture is light and fluffy.\n4. Add the egg and continue to mix until smooth. \n5. Reduce speed to lowest setting, then add flour, chocolate chips and nuts.\n6. Mix until a stiff dough is formed.\n7. Use an ice cream scoop (or similar) to get a consistent cookie size and drop them onto a cookie sheet. I can fit 8–10 cookies on a normal half sheet pan.\n8. Bake for about 15 minutes, until the cookies are pale gold on the edges. For crunchier cookies, add 3–5 minutes and wait for the whole cookie to be pale gold in color.\n9. Allow the cookies to cool on the sheet pan until set. (If you’re going for crispier cookies, the cooling time will be shorter.)\n10. Transfer to cooling rack once set.\n\nPhoto credit: [rawpixel](https://unsplash.com/@rawpixel)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-about-marijuana/) index of articles. And latkes aren’t on the Hanukkah menu just because they’re delicious. The crispy fried treats symbolize the miracle of the oil after the Macabees successfully drove the Syrian army out of Jerusalem. The story goes that there was only one day’s worth of olive oil to light the menorah in the temple. But the menorah burned bright for eight nights—the reason Hanukkah lasts for the same amount of time.  \n\nIf you’re looking to take your Hanukkah celebration to the next level or want a way to include your medication in the holiday celebration, why not infuse your latkes with cannabis?\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nWe recommend using a cannabis tincture to infuse the latkes, but you can choose the marijuana oil that you like best. It can be one that’s high in tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) if you want a psychoactive effect, or if you’ve found that THC helps with your pain or poor sleep.\n\nYou can also choose a hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) oil instead. This would be a great option for cannabis newbies or for people who are mainly interested in easing inflammation or anxiety. \n\nInstead of infusing the actual latkes with cannabis, we chose to medicate one of the most popular latke toppings: sour cream. While you could make the latkes with [cannabis-infused cooking oil](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b3979094aec0000c000043/diy-how-to-make-cannabis-infused-cooking-oil), a way to more easily personalize the cannabis dosage for each guest is to stir the cannabis oil into the sour cream. \n\nYou could split the sour cream into two bowls and infuse one but not the other so people can choose the medicated topping—or simply bypass it. Another option is to serve the latkes with personal ramekins of sour cream for each guest. That way you can give people a truly individual cannabis dose, taking into consideration their tolerance and desired effects. \n\nPlus, eating the cannabis with the fat in the sour cream means the therapeutic cannabinoids become more bioavailable for your body to use.\n\nRELATED: [WHY YOU NEED TO EAT FAT WITH YOUR CANNABIS](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5b4fbaf58904b90007731b33/why-you-need-to-eat-fat-with-your-cannabis)\n\nWe hope that including cannabis or hemp-derived CBD into your Hanukkah celebration makes the holiday all that more special, relaxing and enjoyable. As always, label the infused sour cream, and keep it away from children and pets. \n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Potato Latkes \n\n* 2 lbs potatoes, russet or Yukon Gold work best\n* 1 yellow or white onion\n* 2 eggs\n* 3/4 cup matzo meal\n* Salt and pepper to taste\n* Oil for frying\n* Cannabis tincture of your choice (start with about 2.5 mg per person)\n* Sour cream for topping\n\n### How to Make Cannabis-Infused Potato Latkes\n\n1. Peel and shred the potatoes. You can do this by hand on a box grater or in a food processor. \n2. Place the shredded potatoes in a bowl of cold water for 2 minutes.\n3. While the potatoes are in the chilled water, shred the onions the same way you did the potatoes. \n4. Drain the potatoes. \n5. Wrap the shredded potatoes and onions in a paper towel or cheesecloth, and squeeze out any excess moisture.\n6. Return the potatoes and onion to a bowl. Beat the eggs and add them to the mixture along with the matzo meal and salt and pepper; mix well.\n7. Place about 1/4 inch of oil in a pan (one with high sides will work best) and when it begins to shimmer, you’re ready to fry your latkes.\n8. Take an 1/8 measuring cup and fill it with the latke mixture. Take the measured amount in your hands, lightly flattening it into a pancake shape; be careful not to flatten it too much.\n9. Carefully place the latke in the oil and repeat until there’s no more room in the pan, careful not to crown the latkes too much; you’ll have to fry several batches.\n10. Flip the latkes at regular intervals, until each side is golden brown, about 8–10 minutes per latke.\n11. When they’re finished, place them on a paper towel or cooling rack. (If you’re making your latkes ahead of time, you can warm them in the oven for 10 minutes right before serving.)\n12. When it’s time to eat, decide how you want to serve the medicated sour cream. A microdose of cannabis with THC is usually around 2.5–5 mg; this amount per person may be a good place to start. For hemp-derived CBD, you could go for a larger dose, because CBD doesn’t make people feel high like THC does, though some people are particularly sensitive to CBD. You can also ask your guests how much they’re comfortable consuming and provide each person with their own personalized dose. \n\n\nPhoto credit: [Element5 Digital](https://unsplash.com/@element5digital)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-about-marijuana/) index of articles. A paper in the journal of _Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research_ says that [cannabis can help strengthen our digestive intestines by reducing inflammation](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4940133/), which causes painful irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). We’ve adapted the original recipe here, bringing the dosage way down for us plebs, but keeping all the other good stuff intact, like chocolate chips, peanut butter chips and banana chips. We’d like to think this treat would inspire a few shake, rattle and rolls from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself.\n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS COOKBOOK TAKES EDIBLES TO THE NEXT LEVEL](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5bd759aeee0ba400094ef0de/cannabis-cookbook-takes-edibles-to-the-next-level)\n\n### Ingredients for the Elvis Cookie\n\n* 6 tbsp | 85 g unsalted butter \n* 1/2 cup | 90 g high-quality semisweet chocolate chips (60–65% cacao) \n* 2 3/4 tsp | 12 g Canna Butter (see below), at room temperature \n* 1/2 cup | 100 g packed light brown sugar \n* 1/2 cup | 70 g all-purpose flour \n* 1/4 cup plus 2 tbsp | 30 g unsweetened cocoa powder \n* 1/4 tsp baking soda \n* 1/4 tsp kosher salt \n* 1 large egg, at room temperature \n* 1 tsp vanilla extract \n* 1/2 cup | 42 g banana chips, roughly chopped \n* 1/2 cup | 85 g peanut butter chips \n* 1/4 cup | 45 g white chocolate chips \n\n**Special Equipment:**\nDouble boiler \n\n### Directions for the Elvis Cookie\n\n* Preheat the oven to 325°F [165°C]. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.\n* In a medium heatproof bowl over a double boiler, melt together the butter and semisweet chocolate, stirring every so often with a rubber spatula, about 5 minutes. \n* Add the **canna butter** (see recipe below) and whisk to combine. Whisk in the brown sugar, remove from the heat, and let cool for about 5 minutes. \n* Meanwhile, in a medium bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside. \n* Whisk the egg and vanilla into the chocolate mixture.\n* Add half the flour mixture to the chocolate mixture and fold to combine. Fold in the remaining flour mixture. \n* Add the banana chips, peanut butter chips, and white chocolate chips, and fold again until just combined. Do not overmix.\n* Refrigerate the dough for about 15 minutes to rest and firm up. \n* Weigh the dough and divide into sixteen equal balls. Using a scale to portion the dough is highly recommended for this recipe, however, if you do not have a scale, portion the dough using a 2-Tbsp [30 ml] cookie scoop, or 2 level Tbsp [30 ml] per cookie. If you go this route, level the scoop when measuring and scrape out all the dough completely from the scoop each time.\n* Place eight dough balls onto each of the prepared sheets, spacing them evenly so they have room to spread. Press them down slightly to flatten. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes until the cookies are dry on the surface, but still a little soft on the inside. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet. They will firm up once completely cooled, but we can’t resist indulging in these while they are still warm and gooey!\n\n**Make-Ahead Tip:** The cookie dough can be made, portioned, flattened, and frozen, then stored in an airtight container in the freezer for up to three months. Bake as directed directly from the freezer. \n\n**Variation:** To make a double-dose Elvis Cookie sandwich, sandwich peanut butter and fresh banana slices between two cookies! Crumble in some candied bacon to pay true homage to the King. (Elvis was known to throw some bacon into his fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches when he was feeling especially kinglike.)\n\n***\n### Canna Butter Recipe\n\n- **Active Time:** 30 minutes\n- **Inactive Time:** 28 hrs\n- **Makes:** 1 cup | 206 g\n\nA basic building block for cooking with cannabis, canna butter is one of the most commonly used forms of infusion. Once you master this recipe, you can turn almost anything into an edible.\n\n#### Ingredients\n\n* 1/4 oz | 7 g decarboxylated cannabis flower \n* 12 oz | 340 g cold unsalted butter (see Note) \n* 2 cups | 473 g cold water \n\n#### Special Equipment\n\n* Candy thermometer (optional) \n* Fine-mesh strainer \n* Cheesecloth \n* Tall 1-qt [960-ml] deli container or measuring cup \n* 1/2-pt [240-ml] glass Mason jar with tight-fitting lid \n\n**Note:** For our recipe, we use standard American butter, which typically clocks in at around 80 percent butterfat. European-style butter will have upwards of 82 percent butterfat, which may give you a higher potency than what we’ve tested.\n\n#### Directions\n\n* In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the cannabis, butter, and water. Bring to just below boiling, 200°F to 210°F [95°C to 99°C], without stirring. We recommend using a candy thermometer for precision. Adjust the heat to low. Keep the mixture at this temperature for 4 hours. Using a rubber spatula, scrape down the sides of the pan if you start to see bits of herb sticking to it. The liquid will be at a constant gentle simmer. A few bubbles will break through the fat layer, but the mixture should never come to a rolling boil. If you notice the water getting low from evaporation, add 1 cup [237 g] hot tap water to prevent the mixture from burning. \n* After 4 hours, remove the pan from heat and let cool for 10 minutes.\n* Place a fine-mesh strainer over a large bowl and line the strainer with cheesecloth. Carefully pour in the cannabis-butter mixture. Use a rubber spatula to scrape out the pot, making sure you get all the butter and herb particles. With the spatula or the back of a ladle, press the mixture against the strainer to squeeze out all the liquid you can. Gather up the cheesecloth and give it another good press against the sieve to make sure you get out as much liquid as possible. Discard the leftover debris. (If you are making a larger batch, you may find it helpful to use a potato ricer to efficiently compress the cheesecloth-wrapped herb.) \n* Pour the butter-water liquid into a tall container—make sure the container isn’t too wide or your butter block will be too thin and difficult to remove. Use a rubber spatula to clean the bowl; make sure you get every last bit—that’s liquid gold in there! Cover and refrigerate for 24 hours. \n* Once the mixture cools, the butter and water will separate. Remove the butter block from the container and pat dry with a paper towel. You may have to cut around the edges or lightly push down on the sides to loosen it. If your block breaks while pulling it out, don’t worry. Just make sure to get all the butter pieces out. Use a small strainer to scoop up any remaining butter bits. \n* On the bottom of the butter block you will see a green film. Using the back of a knife, scrape off this film and toss it along with the remaining water down the drain. \n* In a small pot over low heat, melt the canna butter. Once melted, immediately turn off the heat and pour the butter into the glass jar and seal the lid. Label the jar with the date and contents. Refrigerate for up to 1 month, or freeze for up to 6 months.\n\nPhoto credit: Linda Xiao\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-about-marijuana/) index of articles. But just because this chili is simple to make doesn’t mean it lacks taste or complexity. The flavors are robust, the ingredients are rich in fiber and vitamins, plus the added cannabis tincture will bring a whole new meaning to the term “comfort food.”\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en) \n\nYou can add the marijuana tincture of your choice to this chili. If you live in a state where cannabis tinctures are available, one containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) will give you a nice, full-body high that typically includes some psychoactive affects.\n\nFor many, [THC helps address a host of health conditions](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a8dab1cf24d1300077ccb58/the-pros-and-cons-of-psychoactive-thc) like: \n\n* Depression\n* Insomnia\n* Stress\n* Pain \n\nIf you don’t have legal access to cannabis tinctures or don’t want to experience cannabis’s psychoactive effects, don’t worry. You can infuse this chili with a non-psychoactive hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) tincture. High-quality hemp CBD is known for its ability to help with, among other things:\n\n* Inflammation\n* Muscle spasms\n* General pain relief\n\nWhat’s especially great about hemp CBD tinctures is that they’re available and can be shipped anywhere in the U.S. Just know that hemp CBD tinctures receive the same sort of oversight as dietary supplements, which is to say not that much. That’s why it’s incredibly important to [buy your hemp-derived CBD from a trusted source](https://www.hellomd.com/products?category=Tinctures) to ensure your hemp CBD is free of additives and is processed safely.     \n\nRELATED: [WHAT TO WATCH OUT FOR WHEN BUYING HEMP CBD OIL](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5b5e97d0a1805500087db9d9/what-to-watch-out-for-when-buying-hemp-cbd-oil)\n\nAs far as adding the cannabis tincture to your chili, it’s easier to add it separately to each bowl right before serving. By stirring in the cannabis tincture after you’ve portioned it out, you can tailor the dosage to each person’s exact needs and tolerance levels. Plus, you’ll be able to give everyone a more precise cannabis dose.\n\nIf you’re stirring the tincture into a giant bowl of chili, it will be hard to get the cannabis dosage the same for each bowl. Of course, if you’re including a hemp-derived CBD that doesn’t produce psychoactive effects, uneven dosages may not be such an issue. \n              \n### Ingredients for Simple & Healthy Cannabis-Infused Chili\n\nYou can easily make this a vegetarian chili by skipping the meat.\n\n* 5 mL tincture of your choice per serving\n* 3 tbsp olive oil\n* 1 white onion, diced\n* 2 red peppers, cleaned and diced\n* 4 cloves minced garlic\n* 1 1/2 tsp cumin\n* 1/4 tsp chili powder\n* Sea salt\n* Ground black pepper\n* 1 can kidney beans, rinsed and drained\n* 1 can black beans, rinsed and drained\n* 3 cans diced tomatoes\n* 1 cup frozen corn\n* 1 package (16 oz) meat (beef cubes or ground chicken, pork or beef will work best) \n\n### How to Make Simple & Healthy Cannabis-Infused Chili\n\n1. In a large stock pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium heat. \n2. Add the diced onions, peppers, garlic, cumin, cayenne, chili powder, and salt and pepper. Cook until the onions are translucent and soft, around 3 or 4 minutes.\n3. Add the meat to the pot and brown, stirring occasionally. \n4. Then mix in the kidney and black beans, tomatoes and corn. \n5. Turn up the heat to a boil, then lower it to a simmer. Let the chili simmer for 30 minutes while stirring occasionally, allowing all of the flavors to meld together. \n6. Scoop chili into as many bowls as needed.\n6. In Korea, healthy, supple, dewy, well-hydrated skin is the standard. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nSure, you can buy these K-Beauty products or you can make one right in the comfort of your own home. Why not start off with a nourishing face mask?\n\nWhen you make a face mask at home, you have the freedom to add whatever you want, including antioxidant-rich, inflammation-reducing, hemp cannabidiol (CBD) oil. Korean beauty treatments typically use plant extracts and other natural ingredients to promote healthy skin, so adding hemp CBD to the mix seems only natural. \n\n### Discover the Beneficial Ingredients in This Hemp CBD Mask \n\nTo brighten and purify your skin, this recipe combines the power of:\n\n* Yogurt\n* Honey\n* Turmeric\n* Hemp-derived CBD\n* Essential oils \n\nThe yogurt helps brighten the skin by getting rid of surface skin cells that have seen better days. Honey and CBD purify the skin with their powerful antibacterial properties, while also calming inflammation and locking in moisture.\n\nAnd turmeric helps even skin tone, working wonders for hyperpigmentation. Hemp CBD is also full of antioxidants, even more powerful than vitamins C and E, both widely used in anti-aging skin care products. \n\nTry the mask on mornings after a night of drinking or bad sleep, when skin tends to be dull and dehydrated. It can also make a difference in your skin’s overall appearance if you’ve had a few days of where you’ve skipped your vegetables and instead indulged in some greasier food options. \n\nThis mask is intended to be gentle, so that it can be used multiple times a week without causing any irritation. \n\nRELATED: [DIY RECIPE: MOISTURIZING CBD LIP BALM](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5ba4779728d6e8000971f816/diy-recipe-moisturizing-cbd-lip-balm) \n\n### Ingredients for the Korean-Style CBD Brightening & Purifying Face Mask\n\n* 1 tbsp plain yogurt\n* 1 tbsp honey (Manuka preferred, but not required) \n* 1 tbsp turmeric powder\n* 1/2 dropper full of your favorite hemp-derived CBD oil. This well-known phenomenon happens just as you’re beginning to feel the benefits of cannabis such as pain relief, relaxation or mood elevation. Suddenly, you also notice another side effect—you’re ridiculously hungry. \n\nNow, maybe you’ve already eaten, or maybe your hunger pangs are real. But either way, the pull to start snacking is huge. Your stomach rumbles, your mouth waters, and your mind starts making a list of all of the possible snack foods in a 10-mile radius.\n\nWhen you do find something to snack on, the food tastes amazingly good. Maybe it's just a regular old bag of chips, but it tastes so much better than it ever has and you end up eating the whole bag. Sound familiar?\n\nWhile not every type of cannabis induces the munchies, and not every person taking cannabis experiences them, over-snacking while consuming cannabis is a common problem. And many worry about how this excessive snacking may affect their health and waistlines. \n\nSo why not ditch the chips and stock your fridge with some healthy and easy-to-make snacks? \n\nHere’s our list of tasty snacks that will tame the munchies without compromising your health. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Misconceptions About the Munchies\n\nBefore we get to the recipes, we should mention the science behind the munchies. Now, you may think that the munchies means cannabis use will lead to weight gain. But the research actually shows the opposite. [Cannabis can actually shift your metabolism to help you burn more of the calories you take in](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56cb9d8ececb1b000b000073/the-munchies-will-make-you-fat-right-think-again).\n\nSo even for those who increase their caloric intake, the metabolic changes seem to make up for the increase in calories. In fact, [cannabis consumers weigh less on average](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5ac3cf91f24d1300077ccbb8/can-cannabis-help-you-lose-weight) than non-consumers do.\n\nRELATED: [THE SCIENCE BEHIND HOW CANNABIS CAN BOOST YOUR METABOLISM](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5ab1e34bf24d1300077ccb94/the-science-behind-how-cannabis-can-boost-your-appetite)\n\nBut this doesn’t mean you should gorge yourself on junk food. Your body still needs a healthy balance of fresh, nutrient-packed whole foods to be at its best. And weight gain isn’t the only issue with unhealthy foods. They can contribute to conditions like high blood pressure and acid reflux. So why not make the change to healthier options? \n\nHere are my five favorite quick and healthy snacks when the munchies hit:\n\n### 1. Apple Slices & Almond Butter Satisfy Salty-Sweet Cravings\n\nSweet and salty is a commonly craved flavor combination, and these cravings only get stronger when cannabis is in the picture. Satisfy your instincts with this incredibly simple snack.\n\nTo make this snack, simply cut up an apple into slices and spread some almond butter on one side of each slice. \n\nWant even more sweet and salty? You can add some salt or dark chocolate chips on top to bump up the flavor intensity. Your marijuana-boosted taste buds will thank you for this crave-worthy dish. \n\n### 2. Hummus & Veggies Are a Perfect Savory Snack Post-Cannabis Consumption \n\nFor something simple and savory, there are few snacks as satisfying and easy to pull off as hummus and veggies. \n\nHummus is easy to find premade in a variety of healthy flavors, so you can grab one that looks tasty and keep it in your fridge for when the munchies arrive. \n\nYou should also pick out your favorite veggies to dip in the hummus. To simplify, use veggies that are already in easy-to-dip sizes like baby carrots, cherry tomatoes, broccoli or pre-cut celery sticks. This way, you don’t have to do any prep work when you’re ready to snack. \n\nJust dip your veggies in the hummus and enjoy. \n\n### 3. Avocado Salsa Toast Is a Nutrient-Packed Way to Deal With the Munchies\n\nAvocado toast is quite the trendy snack these days, but not without reason. This healthy dish is packed with beneficial fats, fiber and nutrients. And did I mention it’s delicious? \n\nThis spin on the classic is easy to make at home. All you need is a slice of healthy whole grain bread, a quarter of an avocado and a spoonful of your favorite salsa. \n\nJust toast the bread, mash together the salsa and avocado, and spread the mixture on top of the toast. \n\n### 4. Sweet Potato Fries Are a Healthy Way to Satisfy a Salty Marijuana-Induced Craving\n\nWhen I get the munchies, the first snack food I think of is french fries—crispy on the outside, warm on the inside, and so perfectly sweet and salty. Of course, french fries aren’t the healthiest snack because of the oil they’re usually fried in. So, I tend to avoid running out for fast food when I get that french fry craving. \n\nThat’s why I love indulging in this alternative to the classic french fry: baked sweet potato fries. \n\nWhile they taste even sweeter than white potatoes do, sweet potatoes are slightly lower in calories and carbohydrates than their counterparts are. And you can bake them with a healthy fat like olive oil. \n\nIt’s easy to find pre-cut frozen sweet potato fries in the frozen food aisle, but you can also cut up your own sweet potatoes into 1-inch wide wedges. Place your fries on a cookie sheet, brush with olive oil, and then season to your taste with salt and red chili pepper flakes. Cook at 425 degrees F for 20–25 minutes, flipping the fries half-way through.  \n\nWhen they’re finished, spritz them with some lime juice for extra flavor, and add more salt as needed. \n\nWho needs fast-food french fries with this healthy and flavorful alternative? \n\n### 5. Fresh Berries & Yogurt After Consuming Cannabis Can Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth\n\nWhile these salty and savory options are incredible, sometimes the munchies demand something sweet. And nothing quite satisfies a sweetness craving like fresh fruit can. \n\nStock your fridge with fresh berries like blueberries, blackberries or strawberries. I tend to go with whatever’s in season. Then pick out some yogurts that will go well with your fruit. Vanilla is always a good fit, but you can make up all kinds of fun combinations with the many yogurt varieties available. \n\nHere are a few tasty combinations to try:\n\n* Chocolate mousse yogurt with strawberries\n* Cinnamon apple yogurt with blueberries\n* Almond yogurt with blackberries \n* Lemon crème yogurt with raspberries \n\nWhen the sweet cravings hit, you’ll be ready with a flavor combination that’s sure to satisfy your munchies. Just toss the fruit onto your yogurt and enjoy.  \n \nPhoto credit: [Lisa Fotios](https://www.pexels.com/@fotios-photos)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5b8882d88dd0720008373fcf/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-to-about-marijuana) index of articles. But once we’re bundled up for the winter, we often forget that our biggest organ still needs some tender loving care.\n\nOur lips are especially vulnerable to seasonal changes. And extremes in temperature, combined with decreased hydration, can lead to cracked lips and an increased dependence on petroleum-based lip products.\n\nFor cannabis consumers, natural relief is only a few minutes away. This lip balm recipe calls for cannabidiol (CBD) oil. Though any CBD oil or [hemp-derived CBD oil](https://www.hellomd.com/products?category=Tinctures) would work wonderfully for this recipe, you may want to start out with an oil that doesn’t have any added essential oils. This way, you can customize the recipe to suit your taste buds.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nWhat we know about CBD oil is that it’s wonderful for all skin types. Because it has anti-inflammatory properties, you can use this lip balm liberally on red, itchy lips or feel free to dab some balm on cracked, inflamed or irritated skin. \n\nCBD’s antioxidant properties make recipes like this a lifesaver for people suffering from dry, scaly skin. And because you’re using non-psychoactive CBD oil, you can give this as a gift to your noncannabis-consuming friends and family members without worry.\n\nRELATED: [DIY RECIPE: KOREAN-STYLE CBD BRIGHTENING FACE MASK](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5ba93c6028d6e8000971f82d/diy-recipe-korean-style-cbd-brightening-face-mask)\n\nThis recipe takes about 30 minutes to prepare, and the ingredients are widely available at health food stores and online. It yields approximately 16 8-mL lipstick tubes or about 8 1/2-oz lip balm jars. That’s enough for you and your family, with a few stocking stuffers to spare.\n\n![CBD-lip-balm-ingredients](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-c4024b0f-4da6-4f45-af2e-7c426881f020/original.png)\n\n### Ingredients for CBD Lip Balm\n\n* 2 tbsp shea butter\n* 2 tbsp beeswax pellets (cosmetic grade preferable)\n* 2 tbsp firm coconut oil\n* 2 tbsp CBD oil of your choice\n* Optional ingredients: essential oils such as lavender, lemon or peppermint; vanilla extract or other flavoring\n\n### How to Make CBD Lip Balm\n\n1. You can either use a double boiler or microwave to melt the ingredients. \n2. If using a double boiler, fill a sauce pan with about an inch of water and heat until boiling. Lower to a simmer and place a Pyrex bowl on top of the saucepan. Add all ingredients to the bowl and heat until melted. Remove bowl from saucepan. \n3. If using a microwave, combine all ingredients in a bowl and heat for 30 seconds to 1 1/2 minutes until melted. \n4. When your ingredients are completely liquid, add essential oils if using. Always use a small amount of essential oils or flavoring oils to start—2–6 drops should be enough, but feel free to add more according to your taste.\n5. Using a funnel, pour the liquid balm into lipstick tubes or pomade jars. The balm will begin to solidify within a few minutes. If you need more time, feel free to reheat the oil back to a liquid state. \n6. Cover your containers and let the balm solidify at room temperature. Once solid, the balm should be stored at room temperature.\n\nMain photo credit: [Sergey Chetvertnykh](https://www.pexels.com/@sergey-chetvertnykh-304501)\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.3888888888888888,"src":"/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/14b42/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg","srcSet":"/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/f836f/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg 200w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/2244e/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg 400w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/14b42/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg 800w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/47498/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg 1200w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/0e329/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg 1600w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/1f354/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.jpg 3658w","srcWebp":"/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/58556/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/61e93/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp 200w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/1f5c5/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp 400w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/58556/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp 800w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/99238/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp 1200w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/7c22d/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp 1600w,\n/static/9cdda993b5879741c13aafc4d22bfd2f/0b72d/c3c00d8ee929985e576b49ef8659a360.webp 3658w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":48,"numPages":10,"currentPage":5,"id":5676,"name":"Recipes & Diy","slug":"recipes-and-diy","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
