My chronic insomnia has me feeling exhausted almost on a daily basis. And my sleepless nights throw off my schedule as I'm often too tired to complete routine tasks like buying groceries or hitting the gym. \n\nHaving insomnia is not only frustrating, but it can also make you more susceptible to viruses and colds. It turns out one in three Americans will experience insomnia at some point in their lives. Whether it's a chronic condition for you, or caused by an external factor like pain due to a recent injury, insomnia can cause extreme disruption to your daily life. \n\n### Sleeping Pills Aren’t a Great Solution for Insomnia\n\nSleeping pills are often the only advertised option for the many people who struggle with sleep. Many sleeping pills are benzodiazepines, which can be addictive with sustained use. Other sleeping pills, like Ambien, aren't as habit forming, but can have some other problematic side effects. \n\nRELATED: [INTERESTED IN KNOWING ABOUT VAPORIZING? READ MORE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/57fbcaf1644283000784a652/beginners-guide-finding-the-right-marijuana-vaporizer)\n\nThe side effects from sleeping pills can range from stomach discomfort to headaches, all which negate the positive effects of a good night’s sleep. Plus, if you're anything like me, the idea of depending on a pill to fall asleep every night doesn’t make you feel all that great. \n\nThat's why I've tried to find natural alternatives to taking pharmaceuticals.  Cannabis allows me a natural alternative for promoting sleep. It helps ease me into sleep without any side effects that can come from sleeping pills the doctor has prescribed. Both cannabinoids THC and CBD help get me to sleep. And they help me stay asleep through the course of the night. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58065f9a454dca00094ad7b7/embedded_images/58065f9c454dca00094ad7b9/Screen_Shot_2016-10-18_at_10.43.18_AM.png)\n \n### DIY Cannabis-Infused Honey\n\nCannabis honey has been a way for me to incorporate my cannabis consumption into my nightly before-bedtime routine. Cannabis honey is easy to make and can be taken on its own or mixed into tea. Here's how to make cannabis [honey](https://marijuanapatients.org/marijuana-infused-honey/). \n\n### What You Need\n\n>* One ounce of ground cannabis\n\n>* 5 pounds of honey\n\n>* Cheese cloth and cooking twine\n\n>* Slow cooker\n\n\n### How to Make It\n\nFirst wrap the cannabis in cheese cloth and tie it off with the twine. Add the cannabis to the slow cooker and pour the honey all over it. Run the slow cooker on low for five hours and be sure to stir it occasionally. Turn the slow cooker off and let the honey cool for up to 24 hours. I like to sterilize a bell jar for the honey so that I can store it in a cool, dry place for up to eight months.\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58065f9a454dca00094ad7b7/embedded_images/58065f9e454dca00094ad7ba/Screen_Shot_2016-10-18_at_10.43.44_AM.png) \n\n### Selecting your Cannabis\n\nThe strain of cannabis you choose is up to you because each person responds differently to varying levels of THC and CBD. Often indica strains are a good choice for insomnia, and different balances of CBD and THC can be helpful based on the cause of your insomnia. \n\nCheck out suggestions for some [good strains of cannabis for insomnia](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/the-10-best-marijuana-strains-for-insomnia). Also consider looking for strains of cannabis that are produced without pesticides, because whatever pesticides are on your cannabis will get transferred into your honey. I like to select an organic honey that's locally produced, because the quality of your ingredients factors into the quality of your finished product. \n\nThis cannabis-infused honey recipe can also be made in smaller batches depending on what works best for you. I love to mix cannabis-infused honey into my nightly tea. The slow release of cannabinoids due to the edible format of the marijuana helps me relax and keeps me asleep all night long. I wake up happy and refreshed. \n\nDo you have questions about about cannabis? Ask a question on [HelloMD's New Answers](https://www.hellomd.com/answers). If there is one thing we have learned, it's that when patients find success with medicinal cannabis, they want to share their story!\n\nThis past week, I had the honor to speak with Mary. Mary was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in 2001 and has suffered greatly from the symptoms common with this condition. At the peak of her illness she was able to count 43 prescription medications doctors had given her, many highly addictive. FORTY THREE! \n\n### Prescription Zombie\n\nMary confided in me that she had become a prescription zombie. She considered her life on permanent hold and she was unable even to drive her kids to school for fear that she would not get them there or home safely. One day she woke up in the ER because she had had an opioid blackout.\n\nMary decided she had had enough and wanted to regain her health. She made the choice to stop drinking Diet Coke and then Mary made the choice to eat a healthier diet, so she stopped eating processed foods and began eating organic. \n\n### Cannabis is a More Natural Solution\n\nAfter these changes, she told me, \"Why, if I am putting all of these good things into my body, am I taking so many pills every day? They were making me feel worse, so I thought maybe I should try a more natural medication.\" Mary found cannabis, and for her, it worked.\n\nShe worked with her doctors and slowly weaned herself off of the prescription meds she was on. This process took over four months (she emphasized the importance of working with doctors when getting off of addictive opioids). While weaning herself, she started to use cannabis to ease the withdrawal symptoms. \n\nMary found that not only was cannabis helping with her symptoms but that cannabis gave her her feeling of touch back. Until then she had not even realized that she had lost the feeling of being touched. Her libido returned and according to her \"My life was back on track again.\"\n\nSince then Mary has become an avid home grower. She has also become very proficient at DIY recipes and making cannabis products at home, which she feels are of the best quality and completely organic.\n\n### DIY Coconut Milk\n\nHere she shares her favorite recipe for marijuana infused coconut milk. She swears by its medicinal properties and enjoys her medicated coconut milk regularly to reduce her fibromyalgia symptoms.\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/57fae620299fb7000b811f3f/embedded_images/57fae887321b5700077901a6/Screen_Shot_2016-10-09_at_5.59.07_PM.png)\n\n### What’s Needed:\n\n>3 cup large mouth ball jar\n\n>2 cans organic coconut milk - or equivalent \n\n>Cooking thermometer\n\n>Hand mixer that fits into the jar\n\n>1 half gram of finely ground Keif\n\n### How To\n\nOpen one can of coconut milk and pour it into the jar. Microwave the jar on high power for 2 to 2 1/2 minutes or until temperature is at least 160°F. \n\nAdd the cannabis concentrate (Mary uses kief), and blend well with the hand blender. Place the jar back into the microwave for 20 minutes at 20% power. \n\nTake the jar out and mix well with your hand mixer. Make sure to scrape all the concentrate from the side of the jar and then place the jar back into the microwave for 15 minutes at 10% power.\n \nNow add the second can of coconut milk to the jar and blend well. Place the jar back into the microwave for five more minutes at 10% power. Blend well again.\n \nTake the jar out of the microwave and let it cool for approximately 30 minutes before placing jar lid on. Once cooled, shake the jar to blend the settled water before placing the jar into the refrigerator.\n\nThat’s it! This medicated coconut milk lasts 10 days in refrigerator. In terms of dosing, you will need to know the milligrams of THC within your chief, how much chief you have used and then divide with the amount of coconut milk to figure out your dosage. The author recommends a dosage of 1/2 to 1 ounce.\n  \nThis coconut milk can be added to smoothies, coffee, tea, mashed potatoes, cereal, baked goods and anything that milk is used in. You can also drink it by itself, leaving it on the bottom of your tongue allows it to be utilized faster sublingually.  \n\nDo you have questions about about cannabis? But it seems like today people are just discovering them and using them for the first time. Tinctures, alcohol or oil-based cannabis extracts, are becoming some people’s preferred marijuana consumption method because they’re easy to use, don’t involve smoking and provide an accurate dosage. Other reasons people like marijuana tinctures are that they have a long shelf life when stored properly and can be taken sublingually (under the tongue) or mixed into food or drinks. Cannabis tinctures are not only a handy option for a smoke-free consumption method, but tinctures are also discreet and can be taken on the go. \r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\r\n\r\nIn recent years, tinctures have also become a common form of cannabis medication for children with epilepsy or for the elderly who cannot smoke. Cannabis tinctures are easy to make and customize based on your needs. Below is an easy recipe for an alcohol-based marijuana tincture where we use a cannabis strain rich in cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is an anti-inflammatory cannabinoid great for helping treat a host of health conditions. Unlike the other most well-known cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), it doesn’t produce psychoactive effects. \r\n\r\nRELATED: [CANNABIS 101: THC VS. CBD](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/57a17dc121a3ad00076694fc/cannabis-101-thc-vs-cbd)\r\n\r\n### Ingredients for a High-CBD Cannabis Tincture\r\n\r\n* 1 oz of high-CBD marijuana such as Canna-Tsu, ACDC or Harlequin\r\n* High proof alcohol (such as everclear)\r\n* 1 coffee filter\r\n* 1 air-tight 1 quart mason jar\r\n\r\n### How To Make a High-CBD Cannabis Tincture \r\n\r\n1. Choose your marijuana strain, we recommend Canna-Tsu, a low-THC, high-CBD strain that has good pain management properties without high levels of psychoactivity.  \r\n\r\n2. If you’re starting with raw marijuana, you have to [decarboxylate](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56de6bd6c60fd50008000081/decarboxylating-marijuana-why-its-important), or heat, the cannabis in order to convert cannabidiolic acid (CBDA) to CBD. (If starting with cured marijuana skip to step 4).\r\n\r\n3. To decarboxylate your cannabis, you’ll need to do the following: First, set your oven to 245 degrees F while you finely grind the cannabis. You can use a finer, hand-held cheese grinder. Spread the ground marijuana on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and then bake for 60–90 minutes. You’ll know when your CBD has been decarboxylated, because your cannabis will be dry, which will make it crumble easily, and it will be darker than what you started out with. Once you take the cannabis out of the oven, allow it to cool before proceeding.\r\n\r\n4. Mix the marijuana with high-proof alcohol in the jar. You can choose the ratio of your choice depending on how strong you want your tincture. \r\n\r\n5. Close the jar and place it into a cool, dark place and let it sit for 2–3 weeks, shaking the container once a day. \r\n\r\n6. Once ready, filter the tincture through a coffee filter and place into another jar or a dropper bottle for easy use. \r\n\r\n7. Store the cannabis tincture in a cool, dark place. \r\n\r\n### Customize Your Cannabis Tincture\r\n\r\nThis tincture recipe can be used with any strain of marijuana and you can also decide what strength is right for you. If taken sublingually, the effects of the tincture should be felt in roughly 15–45 minutes. \r\n\r\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Andrea is extremely knowledgeable about cannabis and here she shares her Ayurvedic recipe for a CBD tonic/tea.\n\n### The Tea\nBased on the Ayurvedic recipe for “Golden Milk”, this tea combines turmeric, ginger, coconut oil, honey, and CBD to provide relief from inflammation, arthritis, sore muscles, hangover, and a range of other maladies. \n\n### Turmeric\nTurmeric has long been used in South Asia for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. \nOn the Japanese island of Okinawa - where the population has one of the longest average lifespans - turmeric tea is a staple of daily life. In India, turmeric was first used in food and was then discovered to have a range of medicinal benefits - antiseptic, anti-inflammatory detoxifying. It has also been shown to prevent and reverse the effects of Alzheimer's and is currently being studied for its anti-cancer effects. \n\n### Curcumin\nCurcumin, the ingredient in turmeric that makes it yellow and gives it spice, is what science attributes many of its healing properties. In order for your body to absorb the curcumin, it is paired with both a fat and with black pepper. \n\n### Piperine\nPiperine, a compound found in black pepper, has been shown to increase the bioavailability of otherwise hard to absorb curcumin by 2000%. Without the piperine, curcumin is metabolized in the liver and intestinal wall. When I make this tonic, I either add in or leave out black pepper based on how I feel. If I want my liver and intestinal wall to receive the benefits - maybe after a large rich meal or one too many glasses of wine - I leave the pepper out. If I want relief from joint or muscle pain or want my entire body to reap the effects, I add pepper in. Fat also assist with absorption, hence coconut oil which has its own host of benefits. \n\n### Ginger\nGinger, another powerful root with a big reputation, has been shown time and time again to have strong anti-inflammatory properties without the side effects of pharmaceuticalsas well as anti-oxidative and anti-cancer effects (5). It has also long been used to soothe the digestive system. \n\n### Cannabidiol\nCannabidiol, also known as CBD, is an important medicinal cannabinoid that produces no “high.” CBD relieves pain and anxiety, and research has shown it to have antibacterial, anti-convulsive, anti-carcinogenic, anxiolytic, antidepressant, analgesic, antiemetic, anti-inflammatory, anti-ischemic, antispasmodic, antipsychotic, anti-insomnia and neuroprotection properties.\n\n### How To\n\nMix all of the ingredients together with a spoonful of honey and you have a delicious health tonic that can be used for specific ailments or as an everyday preventative medicine. \n\nIngredients \n>- ½ to 1 inch of turmeric root (or a tsp of turmeric powder)\n- ½ to 1 inch of ginger root\n- 1 tsp coconut oil\n- 1 cup of your favorite milk (almond or hemp is delicious!)\n- 1 cup of warm water\n- 2 tsp honey\n- Sprinkle of black pepper\n- Drops of high CBD tincture\n\nWarm the milk. Add all other ingredients to a blender. Combine in your favorite mug and enjoy! \n\nAlternately, all ingredients can be blended together cool and served over ice. \n\nThis can be made in a larger batch and store in your refrigerator for several days or you can combine all ingredients, aside from milk and water, into a paste that you keep for up to a week adding to hot water and milk when you want a cup. Adjust the honey, pepper, ginger, and turmeric depending on your flavor preferences - whether you like things spicy or sweet - and drink to good health. \n\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Besides adding a lovely texture to your face, they typically smell good and hydrate differently from typical facial creams. I put facial oil on to wipe my makeup off, before I put on my facial cream at night before I go to bed. I practically bathe in it. What makes me ga-ga about my particular facial oil is the addition of cannabis sativa, or hemp oil. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Hemp Oil Heals Skin\n\nBefore becoming involved in the cannabis industry, I made a discovery. That discovery was that hemp oil is magical; it honestly saved my family vacation. I was enjoying a long-anticipated getaway in Hawaii with my three young kids, and two of my children got badly sunburned. It was late at night, and out of desperation, I put my hemp-based facial oil on their faces and necks, where they’d been burned.\n\nThe next morning, I was very surprised and amazed to see that the burns were gone—completely gone. At this point, I looked up cannabis sativa and found that hemp oil is often used to treat sunburns, apparently very successfully.\n\nIn addition to treating burns, hemp oil is also considered to be an anti-inflammatory. It’s said to treat:\n\n* psoriasis\n* acne\n* stretch marks\n* dried, cracked skin\n* facial wrinkles\n\nHemp oil is rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. And it contains vitamin E and carotene antioxidants, which assist in repairing damaged skin and promoting cell growth.\n\nDid I say I’m addicted to my facial oil and that I bring it everywhere? Yep, addicted.\n\n### DIY Recipe for Hemp Facial Oil\n\nYou can spend a lot of money buying name brand facial oils, but most don’t contain cannabis sativa oil. As hemp seems to be all the rage these days, you’re about to see an explosion on the market of skin care with hemp. You can track down some of these newer brands, or you can make your own, which may prove to be more economical as well as customizable. \n\nI tend to stay with my tried-and-true recipe, but it’s also possible to use different essential oils and different carrier oils. The carrier oil is the base oil to which you add the hemp seed oil and any other essential oils.\n\nMy recipe is relatively simple; it’s got only four ingredients. Hemp seed oil is non-psychoactive and can be bought without a medical marijuana recommendation. It may also be purchased online.\n\nAs with any facial product, test this out on a patch of skin before slathering over your entire body. I’d also suggest going organic when possible.\n\n### Pamela’s Amazing Hemp-Based Facial Oil\n\n#### Ingredients for Hemp-Based Facial Oil:\n\n* 4 oz  bottle \n* 1 small funnel\n* Base oils: jojoba and hemp seed (also called cannabis sativa oil or hemp oil)\n* Essential oils: lavender, geranium and rose hip\n\n#### How to Make My Hemp-Based Facial Oil:\n\n1.\tStart with a clean bottle. I use bottles specific for carrying cosmetics. You’ll fill the bottle up to three-quarters full. Half of that amount should be jojoba oil and the other half hemp seed oil.\n\n2.\tThe next part is more art than science and is dependent on how much aroma you’d like. I tend to put around 15 drops of lavender, geranium and rose hip oil into the mix and then top it off with more hemp seed oil. That’s it, it's that simple.\n\nRELATED: [DIY RECIPE: MARIJUANA BATH BOMB](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/59cd5092a6dac230b182c30c/diy-recipe-marijuana-bath-bomb)\n\n#### Variations for Your Own Facial Oil:\n\nHere’s a list of ingredients you can play with when making this easy facial oil.\n\n**Base oils:**\n\n* Argan, which is good for all skin types\n* Jojoba, great as an anti-aging component\n* Grapeseed, which is good for oily or acne-prone skin\n*  Avocado—best for dry and older skin\n*  Hemp seed, which is great for all skin types and is naturally healing\n\n**Essential oils:**\n\n* Lavender, which is calming and healing\n* Rose, great for aging skin \n* Geranium, good for acne-prone skin and skin that’s prone to inflammation\n* Rose hip, which carries good anti-aging properties\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Although cannabis can be a great way of treating chronic\nconditions\nand their life-interrupting symptoms, not all patients want to use a\ntraditional consumption method like smoking or vaping. Fortunately,\nthere's more than one way to consume cannabis. One way, in particular,\nis creating a cannabis-infused vegetable glycerine tincture.\n\nWhat Is Vegetable Glycerine?\n----------------------------\n\nAlthough the term vegetable glycerine may sound unfamiliar, this\nparticular ingredient is found in many common foods - and it can be a\ngreat way to sneak cannabis into a diet. Vegetable glycerine is a\nbyproduct of compounds made in manufacturing, and the processed\nvegetables are usually genetically modified. That means that before\nmaking a vegetable glycerine tincture with cannabis, you should choose a\ngood and trustworthy source of high quality vegetable glycerine.\n\nUsing Vegetable Glycerine in Everyday Life\n------------------------------------------\n\nVegetable glycerine tends to have a very mild taste, meaning that it can\nbe added to nearly any food or beverage, or even consumed directly. When\na batch of cannabis-infused vegetable glycerine is made, it should be\nstored in a glass container (since metal containers can leach) and can\nbe used for up to a year.\n\nVegetable Glycerine Recipe\n--------------------------\n\nBefore mixing cannabis into vegetable glycerine, you should decide\nwhether or not you want to decarboxylate the cannabis buds.\nDecarboxylation uses heat to modify the THCA in cannabis to the \npsychoactive THC. Patients will need to weigh whether or not this would\nbe beneficial to their own care.\n\nCombine a half ounce of cannabis buds with 2 cups of high quality\nvegetable glycerine in a glass container that you can seal shut, such as\na Mason jar. Shake the container to thoroughly mix the cannabis and\nglycerine. Then, line a slow cooker with a towel and fill halfway with\nwater. Place the jar in the cooker and very slowly heat the mixture for\nabout 24 hours. Gently shake several times during the process, using\nheating pads to protect your hands from hot jars. The longer the\ntincture brews, the stronger it will be.\n\nAfter consistent warming, remove the jar carefully, shake well, take off\nthe lid and allow it to cool. Once cool, strain the cannabis-infused\nvegetable glycerine tincture, using a metal strainer or cheesecloth. The\nstrained buds can be used to make cannabis\ntea or to infuse other tinctures, beverages or foods. Store the remaining\nvegetable glycerine in a glass jar or a dropper bottle. Add this\ntincture as desired to coffee, tea, soup or nearly any other type of\nfood or beverage. Be careful, however, to add after cooking so that the\nconcentration is not further altered by heat.\n\nMaking Tinctures Faster\n-----------------------\n\nYou can save some time by using a [Magical Butter\nMachine](https://magicalbutter.com/). This machine comes with a specific\ntincture setting that can reduce the total time required from 24 hours\ndown to just 4 hours. Like the slow cooker method, timing can be\nadjusted to increase or decrease the strength of the cannabis\nconcentration in the vegetable glycerine. They make a great alternative to\nmarijuana brownies and similar desserts, especially for anyone who\ndoesn't like chocolate or is simply looking for a new, equally sweet\noption. Fortunately, the recipe is among the simplest available when it\ncomes to desserts that contain marijuana, with a short ingredients list\nand just a few easy steps. Without further ado, here's how to make\nmarijuana Rice Krispies treats.\n\nList of Ingredients\n-------------------\n\n-   4 cups of miniature marshmallows\n-   5 cups of crisp rice cereal (either Rice Krispies or another brand)\n-   1/4 cup [cannabis\n    butter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter)\n\nEquipment To Have on Hand\n-------------------------\n\n-   13 x 9-inch baking pan\n-   Wax paper or a buttered spatula\n-   Saucepan\n\nBaking Directions\n-----------------\n\n1.  Turn a stove burner on low and place the saucepan on it.\n2.  Add the cannabis butter to the pan so it can begin to melt.\n3.  Add the miniature marshmallows to the pan, stirring to ensure they\n    start to melt and mix together.\n4.  Continue to cook butter and marshmallow mixture for another 2\n    minutes, stirring frequently.\n5.  Remove the saucepan from the heat.\n6.  Add the crisp rice cereal and stir until the butter and marshmallow\n    mixture is completely coated with the cereal.\n7.  Use either wax paper or a buttered spatula to transfer the mixture\n    from the saucepan to the greased 13 x 9-inch pan, pressing the\n    mixture into the pan until it looks even.\n8.  Allow the Rice Krispies treats mixture to cool, and then cut it into\n    squares that measure 2 x 2 inches.\n9.  Try them out and get ready to feel great.\n10. To store these marijuana Rice Krispies treats, wrap them in plastic\n    wrap or put them in a covered container in the refrigerator for up\n    to 1 week for best results.\n\nCustomizing Marijuana Rice Krispies Treats\n-------------------------------------------\n\nAs cereal fans might guess, these treats can be made in a few different\nways, since there are some similar cereal options on the market.\nChocolate lovers can use Cocoa Krispies, while people who have fruitier\ntastes might enjoy Fruity Pebbles instead. Of course, either name brand\nor generic cereals can be used with this recipe.\n\nIn addition, anyone looking to change up this recipe even more can add a\nnumber of fun treats. Examples include sprinkles, chocolate chips,\nbutterscotch pieces, M&Ms and Reese's Pieces, to name just a few\noptions. People who bake this recipe can also top the treats off with\nchocolate syrup, caramel syrup or Nutella drizzled over them as they\ncool.\n\nCannabis users may find it fun to experiment with this recipe, and this\napplies not only to tasty additions like candy, but also cannabis.\nThat's because, while many people will find one-quarter cup of cannabis\nbutter to be sufficient for their medicinal needs, some others might\nwant to increase it to one-half cup if these aren't strong enough. Of\ncourse, some people might need less if they're just getting started with\n[marijuana\nedibles](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5640eb06510f78000b000014/9-foolproof-rules-for-consuming-cannabis-edibles).\nThe key is to experiment with these just as bakers do with any dessert.\n\nWhen these are ready to enjoy, be sure to start slowly by eating just\none 2 x 2-inch square. On average, it can take from 30 minutes to 90\nminutes for edibles to affect anyone who eats them, so someone new to\nmarijuana treats of any kind should wait about that long before having\nanother delicious marijuana Rice Krispies treat.\n\n[Photo credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/branditressler/5315039798/in/photolist-96EYad-9Bd1Rd-4b4pdE-9BaakH-9BaapH-9BaanZ-4kgsZn-9Ba8ET-9Bd3CU-9BaaoT-groVTd-grrmzR-grqyjs-grp3Kh-9fTDcX-8ePefd-grrPAY-gpd5tk-o6M1yP-bv3CYi-5v7K8d-9Bd1T1-pnV7zL-5YuRjU-7CPw9u-7neEiZ-9Bd3zu-3jnujw-5YuR31-bv3CV8-bv3CWR-7FX8DC-dKpY58-6HAHur-gGZwf8-dKvr5b-f39Cpo-grr4yt-gGYM8j-bPfMsT-c7uRy-c7uRA-njBbwA-4h1RdE-sD1H7-aiXTfk-gGZvNX-dKpXNR-dioV14-8hYoB8)\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.492537313432836,"src":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/ee604/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png","srcSet":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/69585/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 200w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/497c6/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 400w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/ee604/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 800w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/d93e2/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.png 906w","srcWebp":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/58556/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/61e93/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 200w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/1f5c5/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 400w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/58556/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 800w,\n/static/b4901f46e708d88b3878d0d29a7e1275/5b058/22319182e9c02dc7c9edd10bc1951794.webp 906w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2079-markdown","title":"DIY Recipe: Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookies","slug":"diy-recipe-cannabis-infused-sugar-cookies","content":"The past couple of years have been a holiday downer - nothing kills a festive mood like shelter-in-place and rolling lockdowns. But, as we wind down 2021, and the world slowly reopens, friends and family are gathering again to celebrate the holidays with renewed spirit. We're excited by the prospect, so we've whipped up this cannabis-infused sugar cookie recipe to kickstart the holiday season and fill your home with the scent of freshly baked cookies.\n\nOf course, you can buy sugar cookies at the store, but if you’re so inclined, you can follow this easy recipe to make these cannabis cookies at home. Learning how to make sugar cookies from scratch is a great pastime and can enhance the tasting experience. If you want to make the cookies more healthy and wholesome, you can easily modify the recipe ingredients.\n\nOne way to modify the recipe is to use marijuana-infused butter, or\n[cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter),\ninstead of regular butter. Baking with cannabutter is one of the easiest\nways to reap the medicinal benefits of marijuana. People with chronic\npain often prefer eating medical marijuana as it tends to produce stronger,\nlonger-lasting effects. This means that they don’t have to consume\nmarijuana as often.\n\n\nWithout further ado, here’s a simple recipe incorporating marijuana\ninto sugar cookies. (If time is short, use ready-made frosting. It’s\njust as delicious as homemade frosting and makes decorating cookies\na cinch.)\n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookies\n\n**Makes 24 cookies**\n\n-   2 1/2 cups of flour, plus extra for rolling\n-   1 cup sugar\n-   1 cup [cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter)\n-   1 egg\n-   1 tsp baking powder\n-   1 tsp vanilla extract\n-   1 tsp salt\n\n### Ingredients for Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookie Frosting\n\n-   2 cups sugar\n-   1/4 cup of shortening\n-   2 1/2 tablespoons milk\n-   1/2 tsp vanilla extract\n-   1–2 tsp cannabutter\n-   A few drops of food coloring\n\n### How to Make Cannabis-Infused Sugar Cookies\n\n1.  To make the cookies, beat the eggs, sugar, cannabutter and vanilla\n    extract in a large bowl until thoroughly combined.\n2.  In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt.\n3.  Add the dry ingredients to the cannabutter mixture little by little,\n    stirring slowly and continuously until all of the ingredients are\n    incorporated and the mixture becomes a smooth dough.\n4.  Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.\n    Covering the dough with plastic wrap helps prevent the dough from\n    drying out and forming a skin.\n5.  Remove dough from the refrigerator and preheat the oven to 375\n    degrees F.\n6.  Tip the dough out of the bowl onto a floured surface and roll until\n    It’s approximately 1/3-inch thick.\n7.  Cut dough into shapes with cookie cutters.\n8.  Place cookies 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.\n9.  Bake for 10–12 minutes, until lightly golden brown.\n10. Remove the cannabis cookies from the oven and transfer them to a wire rack to\n    cool completely before frosting.\n11. To frost, combine the sugar and shortening in a large bowl\n    until smooth.\n12. Mix in the milk and vanilla extract until the desired consistency\n    is reached. Consider adding 1–2 teaspoons of cannabutter to thicken\n    runny frosting and increase the potency of the cookies.\n13. Add a few drops of food coloring, if desired.\n14. Spread the frosting evenly over the cookies using a butter knife\n    or spreader.\n\nTip: For less potent cannabis cookies, substitute any portion of the cannabutter\nwith regular butter in this recipe.\n\nCannabis-infused sugar cookies are quick and easy to make. They make the\nperfect accompaniment to a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. If not eating\nimmediately, store the marijuana cookies in an airtight container, layered between\nparchment paper, and either refrigerate or freeze.\n\nPhoto credit: [Mischelle](https://www.flickr.com/photos/evanmischelle/) \n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. This allows people to enjoy the psychoactive properties of\ncannabis and put together tastier and more potent homemade edibles.\nHere's what you need to know about the decarboxylation process.\n\n### Why Decarboxylate?\n\nWhen cannabis is in its raw state, it contains a great deal of a\ncompound called [THCA (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid), which has a variety\nof medical\nbenefits](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/584f78817f091000089c44a4/the-medicinal-benefits-of-thca)\nbut doesn't produce psychoactive effects. When cannabis is heated,\nhowever, it goes through the process of decarboxylation, which releases\nthe carbon dioxide within the compound, turning THCA to psychoactive\n[THC (tetrahydrocannabinol)](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana). This allows consumers to enjoy the full range of\npsychoactive effects that cannabis has to offer, and is a necessary step\nfor those who intend to cook with marijuana.\n\n### Decarboxylating Cannabis Without Damaging Terpenes\n\nWhen beginning the decarboxylation process, one of the most important\nthings to keep in mind is temperature. While marijuana needs heat in\norder to decarboxylate properly, too much heat can damage the delicate\ncompounds within cannabis, burning it and making it smell and taste\ncharred and bitter. Because of this, low, slow heat is best. Lower\ntemperatures allow the cannabis to decarboxylate properly without\ncompromising the delicate terpenes (the compounds and oils that give\ndifferent strains of cannabis their distinct tastes and smells)\ncontained within it.\n\nIn addition to providing a satisfactory olfactory and oral experience\nfor marijuana aficionados, terpenes also possess a [wide range of\nbenefits](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/terpenes-that-augment-the-healing-power-of-cannabis),\nfrom stress relief to increased focus. Heating marijuana on a flame\nthat's too high can damage the terpenes enough to destroy those rare and\nsought-after health benefits.\n\n### How to Decarboxylate Cannabis\n\nWhile decarboxylation may seem like a difficult process, it's easy to do\nat home using simple tools and your own oven. Just follow these\ndirections:\n\n1.  Preheat your oven to 240 degrees F.\n2.  Break the cannabis plant into small pieces, making sure to break up\n    the buds and flowers into small chunks. Keep in mind that the\n    decarboxylation process is the same no matter how much cannabis you\n    choose to use.\n3.  Spread the pieces of marijuana out into a single layer on a rimmed\n    cookie sheet. Don't leave any empty space in the pan or pile\n    marijuana into double layers, as this will interrupt the\n    decarboxylation process.\n4.  Bake the marijuana for 30-40 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to\n    ensure the herb is baking evenly.\n5.  When the cannabis begins to reach a rich, dark color and looks dry,\n    remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the cannabis to cool\n    at room temperature. If you're unsure whether the cannabis is done,\n    touch it. Cannabis that has properly decarboxylated should be dry\n    and crumbly to the touch, but not black or crispy.\n6.  Once the cannabis has cooled completely, transfer it to a\n    food processor. Pulse the marijuana in a food processor until it's\n    coarsely ground (like coarse coffee grounds). Be careful to avoid\n    processing the marijuana too much or else you'll wind up with a fine\n    powder that's difficult to sift. Once the marijuana is ground\n    properly, store it in a plastic zip bag or an airtight Tupperware\n    container for use in extractions and homemade edibles, like\n    [cannabis-infused\n    butter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56b27915fe98a1000c000243/diy-recipe-cannabutter-or-cannabis-butter).\n\n### Tips for Effective Marijuana Decarboxylation\n\nIn order to ensure you're decarboxylating your marijuana properly,\nfollow these tips:\n\n-   **Decarboxylate everything you plan to cook.** Because\n    active (post-decarboxylation) CBD and THC have myriad health\n    benefits, as well as [anti-cancer\n    properties](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5596a4413264380006220000/kicking-cancer-and-chemotherapy-symptoms-with-cannabis),\n    decarboxylating all marijuana before cooking with it is a great way\n    to ensure tastier edibles that are also better healthier. While raw\n    cannabis is ideal for inhalation, decarboxylated cannabis is the\n    go-to marijuana form for cooking.\n-   **Use an oven.** Many people who are decarboxylating cannabis for\n    the first time try to decarboxylate small batches of marijuana using\n    a simple lighter or torch. Unfortunately, this is an uneven heating\n    method that makes it easy to burn some marijuana while leaving the\n    rest raw. To avoid this, always head straight to the oven for your\n    decarboxylation needs. In addition to providing more even heating\n    and a higher-quality end product, the oven makes the entire\n    decarboxylation process simple and is the perfect way to process a\n    large amount of marijuana at one time.\n-   **Allow the marijuana to cool completely.** Once newly\n    decarboxylated marijuana has left the oven, it's important to allow\n    it to cool completely. This preserves the terpenes and makes the\n    marijuana easier to handle.\n\nWhile decarboxylation isn't a word found in many novice cannabis users'\nvocabularies, this simple process is an important tool to transform the\nnon-psychoactive compounds of cannabis into psychoactive ones.\nDecarboxylation is a must for anyone who intends to cook with cannabis,\nas it allows consumers of edibles to reap all of the medical and\npsychoactive properties of cannabis in a tasty package. For experienced\ncannabis consumers and novices alike, decarboxylation is an important\ntool for every cannabis lover to have in his or her toolbox.\n\n[Photo credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/smokershighlife/4234160694/in/photolist-s4rX5x-7sabsA-qMhpoA-oN1Z3g-823WWa-nTLTFi-cupST-fbpxXX-nhA5Px-5Vsx7R-fEW94R-CEYfpM-f5ppT-bPdH2D-f5Eaxw-a9onL4-ydUWP-iTmtp2-ABVdib-bb3tLe-dZ6oeE-7XzWsB-bA6H8Y-4yfD3C-98zxki-9injY9-dPxP9Q-9SqWW9-2uvZvP-duVoLd-k1H7g-5Q5oAe-bHJr8F-8Pomnt-bHJrDi-i5cGFF-qoz67P-8BS2W8-buPE5d-9EUzig-8eVSn4-98cxAR-7esNzp-fLd8Qs-7aC9CT-9GtqDK-cAKhKo-dPUiyE-bP1mZa-eiCYKr)","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.4388489208633093,"src":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/ee604/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png","srcSet":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/69585/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/497c6/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 400w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/ee604/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 800w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/f3583/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 1200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/85d1e/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.png 1474w","srcWebp":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/58556/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/61e93/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/1f5c5/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 400w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/58556/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 800w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/99238/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 1200w,\n/static/e3e82493e8d8b42c0f485b8a4bd88f02/48311/a937890ef6452180885cfb8027c52059.webp 1474w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_1977-markdown","title":"Marijuana Fire Crackers: Recipe","slug":"marijuana-fire-crackers-recipe","content":"Second only to the infamous pot brownie, marijuana fire crackers are one\r\nof the most well-known cannabis-infused treats. Made of crispy crackers,\r\nyummy spread and a little something extra, they're a go-to for many an\r\nedible enthusiast, and it's no secret why. In addition to being tasty,\r\nthey're versatile. Firecrackers can be either sweet or savory, depending\r\non what's desired. For the latter, classic peanut butter and salty snack\r\ncrackers pair well. For something a little sweeter, try hazelnut spread\r\non graham crackers. Or mix the two for a new take on an old classic!\r\nWhether firecrackers are an old favorite or a new discovery, this easy\r\nrecipe is a great guide to making a special treat.\r\n\r\n**Ingredients**\r\n\r\n-   8 graham crackers or snack crackers (such as Ritz or saltines)\r\n-   8 tablespoons natural peanut butter or hazelnut spread (such\r\n    as Nutella)\r\n-   0.5 grams marijuana\r\n\r\n**Procedure**\r\n\r\n1.  Before getting started, preheat the oven to 320 degrees Fahrenheit.\r\n    This will give it a chance to warm up while you prepare\r\n    the firecrackers.\r\n2.  First things first: prepare the marijuana. It must be cut into very\r\n    fine pieces, and there are a couple of ways to do this. A marijuana\r\n    grinder is the easiest method. Simply break the bud apart by hand\r\n    and then grind the weed into a very fine, almost\r\n    powdery consistency. Otherwise, placing the bud into a shot glass or\r\n    cup and cutting it with regular scissors works almost as well. Once\r\n    it's ground up or chopped finely, it's time to prepare\r\n    the firecrackers.\r\n3.  Stir the marijuana into the peanut butter or hazelnut spread so the\r\n    bits of weed are coated with it on all sides. If the spread is\r\n    difficult to stir, microwaving it for about 10 seconds before adding\r\n    the marijuana will help soften it.\r\n4.  Spread 1 tablespoon of the mixture onto each cracker. (A note on\r\n    choosing peanut butter: organic peanut butter with lots of oil\r\n    works best. This is because THC, the active ingredient in marijuana,\r\n    is oil-soluble. It needs a fair amount of oil to dissolve at the\r\n    rate necessary for effective edibles, so look for peanut butter that\r\n    has oil at the top of the jar rather than heavily processed peanut\r\n    butter like Skippy or Jif. Once the oil layer is stirred in, it will\r\n    be perfect for use in this recipe. Additionally, smooth peanut\r\n    butter tends to work better for this recipe as the chunks can't\r\n    absorb the cannabis oil very well.)\r\n5.  Place one coated cracker on top of another so the peanut butter or\r\n    spread is in the middle, forming sandwiches. Repeat to produce four\r\n    cracker sandwiches.\r\n6.  Arrange the cracker sandwiches on a cookie sheet with space in\r\n    between each and cover the entire sheet with aluminum foil to\r\n    prevent burning.\r\n7.  Place the cookie sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20\r\n    minutes, checking halfway through. Ovens may cook at different\r\n    rates, so keep an eye on it to ensure the crackers don't burn.\r\n\r\nLastly, it can be tempting to use more marijuana to make the\r\nfirecrackers stronger. However, doing so will alter the oil-to-cannabis\r\nratio, meaning that all of the THC may not be dissolved. In layman's\r\nterms, this will only waste weed. So for a stronger effect, simply make\r\nmore firecrackers. That way, the weed will have enough oil to\r\neffectively dissolve the THC. Enjoy the firecrackers!\r\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.3986013986013985,"src":"/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/ee604/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.png","srcSet":"/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/69585/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.png 200w,\n/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/497c6/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.png 400w,\n/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/ee604/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.png 800w,\n/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/274ab/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.png 1036w","srcWebp":"/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/58556/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/61e93/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.webp 200w,\n/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/1f5c5/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.webp 400w,\n/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/58556/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.webp 800w,\n/static/b5a7fc6ed6b1b66ed1cd9277b5185552/ba694/bbeb710ca01529d3f44bbd37a2447c22.webp 1036w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2038-markdown","title":"Cheesy Marijuana Garlic Bread: Recipe","slug":"cheesy-marijuana-garlic-bread-recipe","content":"Eating medical marijuana is a different experience from smoking or\r\nvaporizing it. It tends to produce stronger, longer-lasting effects\r\nbecause the liver metabolizes the cannabinoids before they reach the\r\nbrain. Cooking with marijuana-infused butter, or\r\n[cannabutter](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-infused-butter-recipe-make-your-own),\r\nis one of the easiest ways to reap the benefits of medical marijuana.\r\nCannabutter is frequently used in baking, and it is particularly popular\r\nas a substitute for regular butter. Here is an easy way to incorporate\r\nit into cheesy garlic bread. (If you're in a rush, use store-bought\r\nbaguettes. Homemade is delicious, but the proofing time is lengthy.)\r\n\r\n**Ingredients**\r\n\r\n### For two mini baguettes\r\n\r\n-   9 ounces strong white flour, plus extra for dusting\r\n-   ¼ ounce salt\r\n-   ¼ ounce instant dry yeast\r\n-   1 fluid ounce olive oil, plus extra for oiling\r\n-   6 fluid ounces water\r\n\r\n### For the cheesy garlic topping\r\n\r\n-   3½ ounces cannabutter\r\n-   1 head garlic, cloves separated and peeled\r\n-   4½ ounces buffalo mozzarella, roughly chopped or shredded\r\n-   handful any combination of finely chopped parsley, rosemary, basil\r\n    and marjoram\r\n\r\n**Method**\r\n\r\n1.  To make the baguettes, place the flour, salt, yeast, olive oil and ¾\r\n    of the water into a stand mixer with a dough hook attached. Always\r\n    put the flour in the mixer first, then add the yeast and the salt to\r\n    opposite sides of the bowl. This is important because the salt can\r\n    decrease yeast activity.\r\n2.  Start mixing the ingredients at a slow speed, gradually adding the\r\n    rest of the water until the mixture becomes a smooth dough. This\r\n    should take about 5 minutes.\r\n3.  Meanwhile, wipe down the inside of a large mixing bowl with extra\r\n    olive oil. Set aside.\r\n4.  When the dough is ready, tip it into the oiled bowl, cover with\r\n    plastic food wrap and leave to proof for 2 hours. Covering the dough\r\n    with food wrap helps prevent the dough from drying out and forming\r\n    a skin.\r\n5.  Prep your surface with oil before tipping the dough out of the bowl.\r\n    With flour-dusted hands, divide the dough into two equal portions.\r\n6.  Using the heels of the hands, repeatedly fold one portion of the\r\n    dough in on itself. This makes the dough easier to handle and shape\r\n    and helps create a uniform texture. Repeat for the second portion.\r\n7.  Stretch and fold one portion of dough before rolling it into a\r\n    baguette shape. Repeat for the second portion.\r\n8.  Place the baguettes on a large baking tray, cover with plastic food\r\n    wrap and leave to proof until the baguettes have doubled in size.\r\n9.  Preheat the oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and place a roasting dish\r\n    filled with water on the floor of the oven. This will create the\r\n    steam required to produce baguettes with a glossy crust.\r\n10. Once the baguettes have proofed, score the top of each three times\r\n    along its length on the diagonal, using a sharp knife.\r\n11. Bake the baguettes for 30 minutes. Then lower the temperature to 400\r\n    degrees and cook for a further 10 minutes, until golden brown.\r\n12. Remove the baguettes from the oven and leave to cool.\r\n13. While waiting for the baguettes to cool, place the ingredients for\r\n    the cheesy garlic topping into a food processor and blend until\r\n    completely mixed.\r\n14. Once the baguettes have cooled, preheat the broiler to hot.\r\n15. Cut the baguettes into 1-inch diagonal slices and use a flat knife\r\n    to spread the cheesy garlic mixture on the slices.\r\n16. Put the slices under the broiler and cook until the cheese\r\n    has melted. Watch carefully to avoid burning.\r\n17. Serve immediately.\r\n\r\nCheesy marijuana garlic bread is easy to make and tastes delicious.\r\nServe it up as an appetizer or as an accompaniment to a main course.\r\n\r\n[Photo Credit](https://www.flickr.com/photos/23126594@N00/213528724/in/photolist-jSoDJ-6RG5Ud-2auwLB-6hQ6S1-659En2-6b66W3-6b67nQ-6b66w5-6b1VZx-7XpijV-cbVxtq-8uXQCK-6b1VxZ-6b1Wsp-a9F7Ru-6gwy7t-6jFGoR-mkwZp9-dwcrWP-a6mSNK-9xSgma-6w6uv1-ptt5ey-6g7N1R-Ho4zK-34LMRf-5Ysht4-7gKA5Z-eFnGX-2qRXAM-7AVWUW-dPWX7e-9eq77U-bCVGLP-gGKiF-8kkT72-8ci1hb-kVQHd-vHSWK-ixJHrK-644vkt-8ceCZg-oyAm4A-4svQu7-qo3vi-71Ac6h-6R3fGZ-5cD5Jm-6Vt2Mq-7gFDMH)\r\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.342281879194631,"src":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/997ff/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png","srcSet":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/69585/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png 200w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/497c6/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png 400w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/997ff/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.png 796w","srcWebp":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/bffd3/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/61e93/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp 200w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/1f5c5/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp 400w,\n/static/50c5ff435d1f08365bb3fc18b51e0adf/bffd3/fdfda9537066fdccd27577433ffe8c4d.webp 796w","sizes":"(max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2007-markdown","title":"How to Make Marijuana Coconut Oil: Recipe","slug":"how-to-make-marijuana-coconut-oil-recipe","content":"Marijuana coconut oil is an adaptable food additive that provides an\r\nenjoyable way to medicate with cannabis. Eat it by itself or use it when\r\npreparing baked goods, fried foods or salad dressings. Cooks can\r\nsubstitute marijuana coconut oil in almost any recipe that calls for\r\nbutter, shortening or vegetable oil. Many patients experience\r\nlonger-lasting effects from ingesting this oil than from inhaling\r\ncannabis preparations.\r\n\r\nTo benefit from the medicinal properties of marijuana in food, first\r\ninfuse the marijuana into a type of fat like butter, oil or milk. Since\r\nTHC is fat-soluble, not water-soluble, a person cannot simply dump raw\r\nmarijuana leaves into the bowl of ingredients. The taste is unappealing,\r\nand the digestive system is unable to process the THC in its raw form.\r\n\r\nCreating marijuana coconut oil takes some time, but it's relatively\r\nsimple. For those who want a milder taste to their oil, soak the leaves\r\nin water overnight and then dry them before grinding. This process\r\nremoves much of the chlorophyll that causes the strong flavor.\r\n\r\n**Gather Your Ingredients:**\r\n\r\n-   1 pound organic, unrefined coconut oil\r\n-   1-3 ounces finely ground, dried marijuana\r\n-   water\r\n-   slow cooker\r\n-   fine-mesh metal strainer\r\n-   cheesecloth\r\n-   cooking thermometer\r\n\r\n**The Process:**\r\n\r\n1\\. Put coconut oil into the slow cooker and add enough water to make the\r\noil float. Then turn the slow cooker to the highest setting. Wait until\r\nthe oil is in a liquid state.\r\n\r\n2\\. Mix the ground marijuana in gently, stirring the mixture to\r\ncompletely soak up the powder. If the powder is not combining properly,\r\none can add a little more water to the slow cooker.\r\n\r\n3\\. Place a cooking thermometer into the liquid and put the lid on the\r\nslow cooker. Keep a close eye on the process at this point. As soon as\r\nthe temperature reaches 250 degrees Fahrenheit, turn the heat setting to\r\n\"low.\" Stir the mixture gently and thoroughly.\r\n\r\n4\\. Continue to check on the mixture and stir it occasionally. Keep the\r\ntemperature of the liquid between 250 and 270 degrees Fahrenheit. It is\r\npossible that the slow cooker will need to stay on the \"warm\" setting in\r\norder to regulate the temperature. In all events, do not let the mixture\r\nreach 320 degrees Fahrenheit, or the THC will burn off or deteriorate.\r\nDuring this time, make sure there is enough water to cover the marijuana\r\ncompletely. Add more water if necessary.\r\n\r\n5\\. After the mixture sits for 12 hours, turn the heat off. Remove from\r\nthe slow cooker and allow the mixture to cool enough to pour it safely.\r\n\r\n6\\. Prepare your straining station. Place the metal strainer in a large\r\nbowl; then cover the strainer with a double layer of cheesecloths.\r\nSlowly pour the mixture into the strainer. Use a flexible spatula to\r\nscrape the remaining marijuana out of the slow cooker. Once the liquid\r\nhas poured through the cheesecloth completely, wrap the cheesecloth\r\naround the spent marijuana and twist to wring out any remaining liquid.\r\nSome keep the used marijuana to use it in a compress later.\r\n\r\n7\\. Place the bowl of oil in the refrigerator for several hours. Once\r\ncooled, the oil will rise above the water. Use a flat metal spatula to\r\npry the oil out of the bowl. It should come out easily in one piece.\r\n\r\n8\\. Store the prepared marijuana oil in an airtight container either in\r\nthe refrigerator or at room temperature below 75 degrees.\r\n\r\nSpread the marijuana coconut oil on bread, add it to your next batch of\r\ncookies, or use it as a massage oil. This recipe is so versatile it's\r\neasy to see why it is a favorite in the cannabis community.\r\n","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.5873015873015872,"src":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/ee604/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png","srcSet":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/69585/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 200w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/497c6/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 400w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/ee604/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 800w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/035d9/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.png 990w","srcWebp":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/58556/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/61e93/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 200w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/1f5c5/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 400w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/58556/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 800w,\n/static/d78fd8af991e833d33761b274fe3f280/8b5b8/bf2ec66a917aebc39ba51a64c77632ce.webp 990w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}}]}},"pageContext":{"limit":12,"skip":96,"numPages":10,"currentPage":9,"id":5676,"name":"Recipes & Diy","slug":"recipes-and-diy","country":"US"}},"staticQueryHashes":["3949754563","4179947113","4202924991"]}
