Given this new shift in cultural mores, it's no coincidence that weed, sex, and marijuana, are also quickly growing in popularity. And for women, cannabis is showing promise as a natural sexual enhancement aid.\n\nIn this article, we will talk about sex and weed in-depth – lifting the veil on the ties between cannabis and enhanced sexual pleasure for women. \n\n![Untitled68-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled68_min_7387029dda.png)\n\n### Weed & Sexual Enhancement for Women\n\nMarijuana is known to [enhance focus](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/5-top-marijuana-strains-that-foster-focus-and-productivity), [reduce anxiety](https://www.hellomd.com/tag/anxiety), increase sensitivity, and create a euphoric effect for many consumers. \n\nWhen coupled with sex, weed can bring enhanced sexual pleasure into the bedroom. \n\nA [2020 study of female dispensary shoppers](https://www.smoa.jsexmed.org/article/S2050-1161(20)30086-6/fulltext) found that \"increasing frequency of cannabis use is associated with improved sexual function and is associated with increased satisfaction, orgasm, and sexual desire.\"\n\nA [recent study](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6522945/) was conducted to explore the effects of marijuana on sexual functioning in women, including libido, arousal, orgasm, and satisfaction. Of the three hundred and thirty-seven participants, 34% reported using marijuana before sexual activity. Most noted an increase in sex drive, improvement in orgasm, and decreased pain. The study concludes that women who consume marijuana before sex are two times more likely to have a satisfactory orgasm. Marijuana appears to improve women's overall satisfaction with their orgasms.\n\nBut what causes this? \n\nThere are a few reasons that weed makes sex better. \n\nCannabis grounds you to the moment. In order to properly enjoy a sexual experience, you often need to be completely present – without distraction. Weed relaxes the mind and body, allowing you to become lost in your partner. \n\nWeed reduces pain and anxiety. For those feeling anxious or experiencing discomfort, marijuana alleviates or reduces these sensations.\n\nMarijuana has euphoric effects. Combining a euphoric \"high\" from weed with the pleasure of sex can heighten the experience. \n\nIt's important to note that although weed and sex do seem to go great together, that doesn't mean everyone will experience the same result. \n\n![Untitled66-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled66_min_9f2b1dbbe4.png)\n\n### How to Use Cannabis for Sex\n\nJust because weed is great for sex, doesn't mean more weed means better sex. In fact, excessive consumption [can cause Erectile Dysfunction for men](https://www.goodrx.com/well-being/substance-use/can-weed-cause-ed-or-infertility).\n\nThe key to marijuana and sex is finding a product and strain that best suits you. If you're already an experienced smoker, this may be easier to do than if you are new to the plant. \n\nNext, start slow and work your way up when consuming cannabis. You can always consume more cannabis later, but you can't go back if you take too much. \n\nIf you stick to a plan, you'll enjoy all of the benefits of cannabis during sex, without any adverse effects. \n\n In no time, you'll be mixing weed into your sexual routine regularly. \n\n### Top Marijuana Strains for Sex\n\nCreating an extraordinary sexual experience with weed can come down to choosing a strain that best suits you. This is because cannabis binds to receptors in the hypothalamus (an area of the brain), which regulates erectile function and sexual behavior. \n \nThe study also found that this connection between weed and the male hypothalamus may also \"explain why cannabis can improve sexual function in some patients affected by conditions or symptoms such as depression, anxiety disorder, and pain.\"\n \nWhile ED is a potential side effect of cannabis use during sex, it's avoidable in many cases. We'll dive into that later on. \n\nBut for those with conditions that already impact sex, weed can spark the sexual desire in the brain again — the science provides clear evidence of this. \n\n![Untitled70-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled70_min_65492e35b7.png)\n\n### How Weed Can Negatively Affect Sex \n\nWhile cannabis is resoundingly positive for many men and their sex lives, it doesn't come without the potential for some negative effects. Keep in mind cannabis is easy to overconsume. The best way to avoid any weed-related issues is to start slow with low dosages. \n\nThe most common adverse side effect of weed and sex is that it can cause erectile dysfunction (ED) in some men. However, there are conflicting studies on this topic.\n\n[The clearest understanding of ED and cannabis](https://www.goodrx.com/well-being/substance-use/can-weed-cause-ed-or-infertility) is that moderate marijuana use won't cause ED, but overuse may have an effect.\n\nIt's easy to over-consume cannabis, especially if you're not a regular consumer, but there are tips, products, and strains that minimize this risk such as:\n\n- Ask a doctor or budtender for advice on products to fit your needs\n- Start with lower THC products\n- Consume a small quantity of marijuana to start \n- Use CBD with THC to [combat feelings of anxiety](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/understanding-how-cbd-can-calm-your-anxiety) and stress \n\n### Top Marijuana Strains for Sex\n\nCreating the perfect sexual experience with cannabis often boils down to choosing a cannabis strain that best suits you. The marijuana strains listed below are ideal, but try them out and choose the one(s) that you feel work best. \n\n![Untitled74-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled74_min_c525d7b976.png)\n\n### Super Lemon Haze\n[Super Lemon Haze](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/super-lemon-haze) contains one particularly important terpene for sex — limonene. Limonene is known to increase your sex drive while simultaneously reducing stress and relaxing the body. With a THC range of 15-25%, this strain should be used in smaller doses immediately before sexual activity. \n\n![Untitled75-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled75_min_387d731f2f.png)\n\n### Durban Poison\n[Durban Poison](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/durban-poison) is another high-level limonene marijuana strain. The high from Durban Poison is often associated with clear-headedness and enhanced ability to focus. For those seeking enhanced libido and ability to focus on their partner, give this strain a try before hopping in bed. \n\n![Untitled76-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled76_min_12a90a9fd5.png)\n\n### Golden Goat\n[Golden Goat](https://hellomd.ca/strains/golden-goat) is a common strain in Colorado dispensaries. The weed contains 1-2% CBD which can help combat any negative mental effects associated with consuming cannabis. This sativa-dominant hybrid provides a boost in both mood and energy to set the mood.\n\n![Untitled77-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled77_min_6913702ae4.png)\n\n### Harlequin\nFor first-time smokers or less than regular cannabis consumers, [Harlequin](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/harlequin) is a great strain to try out before sex. This marijuana strain boasts 8-6% CBD and much lower THC, meaning you can enjoy consuming it before sex with minimal risk of erectile dysfunction. You'll feel a more mild effect, but still enjoy the sexual stimulation and enhanced sensory impact that many other strains provide. \n\n![Untitled78-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled78_min_6fbab04333.png)\n\n### Blue Dream\n[Blue Dream](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/blue-dream) is an excellent option for more experienced marijuana users. It has a mid-level range of THC and provides a long-lasting, balanced high that can bring out euphoric effects when coupled with sex. Blue Dream is both relaxing and mentally stimulating, so you can focus on your partner while enjoying the moment. \n\nAs scientists continue their research on the ties between sex and weed, you're free to do your experimentation. Try different products and strains with varying effects. And always remember to start slow and enjoy more as the night goes on. \n\nEspecially for those dealing with conditions that make sex difficult, cannabis is a safe, enjoyable plant to add to your sexual lifestyle. \n\n### Get Your Medical Document & Purchase Medical Cannabis\n\nIt's easy to get your medical document with the online [Telehealth service HelloMD](https://hellomd.com/get-started). The survey results showed men and women reporting that cannabis had helped [enhance their sex\nlives](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-use-has-different-sexual-health-effects-for-men-and-women) and increase their sexual desire. What's more, this study isn't the only\none of its kind. In fact, a [2012 survey](http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/02791072.1982.10471911?journalCode=ujpd20) conducted by the **University of Kansas Medical School** also revealed that marijuana enhanced sexual desire and performance in respondents.\n\nWhile doctors aren't sure exactly how cannabis manages to do this, they do know that it [promotes the release of oxytocin](http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/07/050720065810.htm),\nthe \"bonding hormone\" that makes us feel closer to our sexual partners. Because of this, marijuana has often been classified as a sexual stimulant, and consumers have been taking advantage of it for years to help them perform better in the bedroom and enjoy sex more.\n\n![Untitled65-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled65_min_5236385225.png)\n\n### Traditional Medicine and Cannabis\n\nDespite what two broad-reaching surveys have found, traditional medical literature doesn't always back these claims up. In the past, studies have found that cannabis can [harm sexual\nfunction](http://www.healthline.com/health/erectile-dysfunction/is-smoking-weed-good-or-bad-for-ed), even going so far as to [cause erectile dysfunction](http://blog.sfgate.com/smellthetruth/2015/10/06/weed-dick-marijuana-may-cause-erectile-dysfunction-study-shows/) (ED) or deplete testosterone levels in men. Even modern-day doctors like\n[Rany Shamloul](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ptr.5074), Ph.D., have conducted more recent [studies and reviews](http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/02/110222122212.htm) that claim to prove a positive link between the use of marijuana and the occurrence of ED.\n\nWhile the medical evidence may seem convincing, cannabis doctors are urging consumers to avoid jumping to conclusions about the proof these studies offer that cannabis harms sexual function. These doctors state that traditional studies that look at male sexual performance and cannabis are poorly structured and in need of a more updated approach. Unfortunately, these doctors also acknowledge that it [may take quite some time](http://www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/health/can-marijuana-save-your-sex-life-20160229) before American universities and other medical establishments begin researching sex and cannabis in earnest.\n\n![Untitled64-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled64_min_932fdca536.png)\n\n### The Future of Cannabis and Sexuality\n\nWhile traditional medicine may be lagging behind on this issue, doctors like HelloMD's own Chief Medical Officer, [Perry Solomon](https://www.linkedin.com/in/perry-solomon-md-2b27a65/), M.D., are forging ahead and prescribing cannabis to men struggling with ED, decreased libido or difficulty achieving orgasm. In the words of Dr. Solomon, \"*The way I see it, why not try cannabis? There are side effects to Viagra and zero side effects to cannabis when dosed properly*.\"\n\nWhile cannabis may be helpful in the bedroom in small doses, Solomon advocates being careful about how much consumers use. Too much marijuana can leave men feeling classically \"stoned\" and rob them of their desire to have sex at all. To avoid this, Solomon advocates that consumers use a [vape pen](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/everything-you-need-to-know-about-disposable-vape-pens) about five minutes before sex in order to time the effects of the marijuana with sexual activity. Additionally, Solomon recommends using a strain of marijuana that contains [less than 14 percent THC](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/high-cbd-marijuana-strains) and ensuring that male users consume marijuana slowly, to avoid taking too much.\n\nInterestingly, female marijuana consumers don't need to be as careful about dose as their male counterparts. While men may risk a decrease in sexual performance or desire with too much marijuana, women are relatively tolerant to virtually any dose.\n\nWhile [further research is needed](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/playboycom/how-marijuana-affects-male-sexual-performance_b_8224046.html) to bring cannabis into the mainstream as a way to enhance male sexual performance and treat conditions like ED and premature orgasm, doctors like Perry Solomon believe deeply in the treatment and are looking forward to seeing it prescribed more often to patients.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAABQAAAANCAIAAAAmMtkJAAAACXBIWXMAAAsTAAALEwEAmpwYAAADJElEQVQozwEZA+b8AJmrsm2ChlhucmV6e3iLi3+QkJKfn6KrqpOenJmioZympZ+pqJympaOtrqGqq5ikpYuanHqNkGl6f1piaQC8yNB+kpRgd3hqf359kJCCk5GZpaOnr66YoZ6dpqWiqqmpsrSnsbGnrauosbGgqqqVoaOGl5h1iYtkdXkA197kj56fboGAcYSDhpaVipiWoaqprLKxnqajoqmmq7a3qKqdhnVaoZ6Wsbu8pK2snKamkJ6egJKTb4OFAOfr76exs5Cbm6Cqq662trC2trm8vK+0sqWsqK61tKmnm3tnPn1rU73CxLa7u6uzs6GrqpeiooqamnqOjwDu8/alr7OEkJGXoaKnr66qsbCvtLOprqynraqvubmbjXdjQBuQg3XGzM67v76yubinsK+dqKiToaGDlpcA5uzzo6+1eIeJhZKTlaCglqCflJ+enKeksrm1tb+/oJuNXTMThXNbw8jJu76/tbq6q7OzoayrmKSliZqbANzk8qayu32LjYqWl5iioJqkoqeupoOFe19fYo2YmayjkF01FnhhP7W5tbe8vbG4uKy0tKOtrZmmp4ucngC7yNmhsbx/lJiHl5qhsbWhsryaqLBzfIBcZ22FlZaikHl0TTFyVC2sp6DK0dW5v8CjrKuYpKSRn6B/kpMAJCIuMjE+RElXTlhlXW59XXWFQU1bP0VPQUdSZWBYg19AcEcxYDUXpZeM3eXrzNLXpK+wm6iqkaCigZSYAAwAAQ4ABxMGExsRHyAXJSsmMy0oNTg3QzMzQ0EyMHBMJ2pHKVAiDIBrXrvGya22uJqkp5uprY2eonuPlQAVBgg7HyJDKiwqExkbEBwbER4fFyMpIi0pJjJLOzlsUD1rWUdwYVJ5eXCUop+UoaCRoaCDlpdzholld3sAEQACIgIGJgECKwAARzg5bH1/foqKkZ2dnqmpoaupprKxq7q6qbi4o7Gxn6ytmqmqlaepkKSpfJScZ3+JADExPEQ+SVJMVFhRWHqDh6q9wcPQ1s/Z4dXg6Nfi6Nrj6trj7M/Z4cLN1rrIz669xKW2vZSosHuWoGaBjn1UqmHh5UJ8AAAAAElFTkSuQmCC","aspectRatio":1.492537313432836,"src":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/ee604/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png","srcSet":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/69585/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 200w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/497c6/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 400w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/ee604/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 800w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/fb92e/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 1184w","srcWebp":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/58556/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/61e93/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 200w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/1f5c5/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 400w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/58556/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 800w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/d8912/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 1184w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_3917-markdown","title":"The 5 Best Cannabis Products for Better Sex in California","slug":"the-5-best-cannabis-products-for-better-sex-in-california","content":"Thinking about bringing cannabis into the bedroom? [Many women claim]( https://www.healthline.com/health/womens-health/cannabis-lube-benefits) claim that a cannabis-infused lubricant heightens sexual experiences. In addition, the topical application of weed increases blood flow and heightens genital sensations for women. \n\nMany cannabis companies that produce marijuana-infused lubes use CO2-extracted cannabis oil mixed with an oil base such as coconut oil. While that works for larger-scaled companies that can afford the extraction equipment, the average consumer cannot replicate that process at home. So, for the enthusiast, we provide a simple, alternative method for creating a scintillating weed lube at home.\n\n![Choose an oil for your weed lube](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_03_15_at_1_06_54_PM_5bb25b645d.png)\n\n### Choosing an Oil Base for Your Weed Lube\nWhen you want to have incredible sex, the last thing you want to happen is something going wrong with the type of lube you’re using. Here are some simple ingredients and a step-by-step which yields approximately 5mg of THC per 1mL of oil.\n\n#### Ingredients:\n8oz fractionalized (liquid) natural oil\n¼ oz of your favorite flower (consider a euphoric, low-THC strain to get into and stay in the perfect mood)\n\n#### Supplies:\n- Two 4oz mason jars\n- Food scale\n- Grinder\n- Slow cooker\n- Unbleached cheesecloth\n- Larger funnel\n- Smaller funnel\n- Tincture bottle with a 1mL calibrated pipette.\n- Boiling water (enough to cover both mason jars in the slow cooker)\n\n#### Steps:\n- 1.) Grind up your weed using a grinder or even a food processor.\n- 2.) Activate [(decarboxylate)](https://hellomd.com/articles/how-to-decarboxylate-cannabis) your THC with this easy bake method: spread the ground weed evenly on a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated oven at 225-240 degrees Fahrenheit (110-120 Celsius) for one hour in the middle of the rack. Stir the herb after the first half-hour.\n- 3.) Once the cannabis is fully decarboxylated, divide the evening into each 4oz mason jar.\n- 4.) Add the oil to each mason jar over top of the ground flower in even proportions.\n- 5.) Close the jars — Be sure the mason jar's lid is as tight as possible.\n- 6.) Place the mason jars in the slow cooker and fill them with water so that the jars are fully submerged.\n- 7.) Set slow cooker to \"warm\" for four to five hours.\n- 8.) Every 60 minutes, using heavy oven mitts, pull out the jars and give them a good shake. Be sure not to burn yourself as the glass and metal will both be very hot!\n- 9.) After four to five hours, remove jars from the water and place them on a cloth until they are cool (do not place them on a cold/hard surface as this could cause the glass to crack.\n- 10.) Line the larger funnel with four layers of cheesecloth and place over a large glass measuring cup with a pour spout.\n- 11.) Slowly pour the cooled liquid through the cheesecloth. Almost every human being wants it for a variety of reasons. For some, it’s an integral part of relieving stress. For others, it’s a key way to express love for their significant other. And sometimes, a good workout in the bedroom is just plain fun.\n\nBut how many times has this happened to you: The thought of sex with your partner sounds like a great way to spend the evening, but between getting dinner on the table at a decent hour, negotiating with the kids about bedtime and handling the extra-urgent work project, you’re just plain exhausted, and there’s no way you have the energy to get it on.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_us/?utm_medium=copy_link/)\n\nA low sex drive isn’t always about fatigue, either. Dips in sex drive can come about from:\n\n* Depression\n* Menopause\n* Low testosterone\n* Anxiety\n* Alcohol abuse\n\nBut a healthy sex life (whatever that means for you) is important for mental and physical health. So, if you’re dissatisfied with the state of your sex drive, adding a cannabis product to your bedroom routine could help you regain that spark. \n\n### Why Can Cannabis Boost Libido? \n\nFolks have been using marijuana as an aphrodisiac for centuries, [as far back as 700 A.D. as part of tantric sex and yoga practices in India](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a835c65f24d1300077ccb47/cannabis-and-sex-a-brief-world-history). \n\nAnd science is starting to pinpoint why. According to Dr. Mitch Earlywine, receptors that form part of the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which interacts with cannabinoids found in cannabis, appear to increase pleasurable sensations.\n\nHe states: “[The CB1 receptor seems to be involved in tactile sensations and general euphoria](https://www.elitedaily.com/dating/your-sex-life-on-weed/1026506).” \n\nPlus, a study out of Stanford University showed that marijuana consumers have 20% more sex than people who don’t take cannabis do. So, maybe it’s time to see if the plant can help increase your sex drive.\n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS USERS HAVE MORE SEX](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-users-have-more-sex/)\n\nWe’ve got four cannabis products that are especially formulated to increase your desire for sex, as well as your stamina and ability. Give one of them a go to help connect with your partner to make sex fun and fulfilling. \n\n### 1. If you’re worried about bills, issues at work or an upcoming event, you probably won’t be focused enough on your partner or yourself to find pleasure. And if you’re dealing with pain—whether acute from an injury or chronic from a health issue—forget about fulfilling sex. Cannabis can help in this area as well.\n\nMarijuana has been proven to: \n\n* [Ease anxiety](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00213-017-4648-z) \n* [Fight pain](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness?category=pain-management) \n\nThese are just a few of the good reasons to indulge in some cannabis before your next bedroom encounter.\n\nIn fact, [cannabis has been used to enhance sexual experiences since ancient times](https://books.google.com/books?id=ZArPH0nFGo0C&pg=PA358&lpg=PA358&dq=chinese+texts+cannabis+aphrodisiac&source=bl&ots=Kmr12MRohT&sig=ofJTplJfrwrUv3v0Z7lqSXbPz8k&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjKy4iqkP7YAhUB4oMKHXZ1AmsQ6AEISzAH#v=onepage&q=chinese%20texts%20cannabis%20aphrodisiac&f=false), and there’s even evidence that cannabis consumers have more sex than the average person does.\n\nRELATED: [CANNABIS USERS HAVE MORE SEX](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-users-have-more-sex)\n\nOf course, the marijuana-based products that you use can have a big impact on how effective cannabis is at enhancing these experiences. The wrong type of cannabis can even have a negative effect. \n\nThat’s why we put together this list of our top five recommendations for marijuana products and strains to try if you’re looking to improve your sex life with cannabis: \n\n### 1. Green Cush Cannabis Strain Will Give You Energy All Night Long\n\nOne popular strain that’s highly rated for its arousing and pleasurable qualities is Green Cush. With a sweet and citrusy flavor and aroma, this energizing and euphoric sativa strain can boost your mood and get you ready for love. It can also aid with pain and anxiety relief and provide energy for long-lasting fun in the bedroom. \n\nBut be careful. This recommendation is for sativa lovers only. If you’re sensitive to the energetic effects of sativa strains, it may cause anxiety and worsen the sexual experience. If you’re sensitive to sativas, try an indica or hybrid to see if that’s more to your liking. \n\n### 2. Shishkaberry Marijuana Strain Can Help You Have Fun in the Bedroom\n\nFor those who prefer the effects of indica cannabis strains, Shishkaberry is also highly rated for its sexual enhancement. This purple indica strain has a sweet flavor with notes of blueberry, and it’s known for providing relaxation without too much sedation. This creates a happy and connected social high along with pain and tension relief. It’s a perfect combination for getting playful, relaxed and connected to your partner. \n\nRELATED: [4 WAYS WOMEN CAN UP THEIR CHANCES OF ACHIEVING ORGASM](https://hellomd.com/articles/4-ways-women-can-up-their-chances-of-achieving-orgasm)\n\n### 3. Passion Dose Pen From Dosist Provides Fast-Acting Arousal \n\nWhile finding the right marijuana strain is a great way to approach your search for a cannabis aphrodisiac, some prefer to go for the products that are already designed with sex in mind. [he Passion dose pen from Dosist\nis a great option in this category. With a euphoric but relaxed high, this tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-dominant blend also includes:\n\n* [Cannabidiol (CBD)](https://hellomd.com/articles/whats-so-great-about-cannabidiol-or-cbd)\n* Myrcene\n* [Limonene](https://hellomd.com/articles/know-your-cannabis-terpenes-limonene)\n\nIt’s specially designed and market tested to increase sensuality and heighten the sexual experience. \n\n### 4. Juna’s Nude CBD Tincture Can Help You Relax Enough to Enjoy Quality Time With Your Partner\n\nWhile THC is known to boost arousal, [too much THC can actually have the opposite effect, and negatively impact arousal and pleasure during sex](https://www.nytimes.com/1981/07/25/us/study-links-use-of-marijuana-to-a-fluctuation-in-sex-drive.html). For some, this just means taking small amounts of THC. But for those who have higher levels of sensitivity, pure CBD may be a better option.\n\nIf you’d like to avoid THC altogether, try Juna’s Nude CBD tincture. This full- spectrum CBD extract from hemp is blended with MCT oil for an easy-to-dose tincture. A non-intoxicating option, Juna’s Nude tincture won’t get you high, but it will leave your body feeling relaxed and in less pain. And that may be just what you need to loosen up so that you can have a pleasurable experience with your partner. \n\n### 5. Elevate Vital Oil by Verte Essentials Can Act as a Sensual Massage Oil\n\nFor those who prefer not to ingest cannabis, there are also topical options to consider like Elevate Vital Oil from Verte Essentials. This hemp-derived CBD is mixed with MCT oil and a blend of botanical extracts. The chai tea aroma of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves has both an invigorating and relaxing effect, which can help set the mood. \n\nWhile this topical won’t affect your mental state directly, massaging yourself and/or your partner with this fragrant oil will leave your body feeling relaxed and in less pain. Research suggests that the release of hormones from orgasms can have benefits like:\n\n* Reducing stress\n* Easing inflammation and pain\n* Promoting circulation \n\nBut for many women, reaching orgasm isn’t that easy. The Kinsey Institute reports that when women have sex with men, they orgasm 63% of the time. This number rises to 75% when the sex is between women and 85% when the sex is between men. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nIt’s clear that there’s an orgasm disparity, and there are many reasons why. Some of the more obvious ones are: As a society, we tend to overvalue penis-in-vagina, or penetrative sex. Additionally, men—and even women—tend to be woefully uneducated when it comes to female anatomy.\n\nSo, what can women (and men) do to close this gap? Achieving an orgasm requires both body and mind. And there are a few things you can do that can help your body get in the right state. And yep, one of those things includes consuming cannabis.\n\n### 1. Think About Sex Differently\n\nVaginal sex is just one kind of sex. There’s oral, anal and manual—to name a few. And for a lot of women, penetration doesn’t always equal orgasm. On average, it takes women 10–20 minutes to orgasm, and 70% percent of women need direct clitoral stimulation to do so. A lot of these requirements don’t seem to favor vaginal sex. \n\nGiven the numbers, it makes sense to incorporate different types of sex into a single lovemaking sesh—especially if you or your partner have differing needs.\n\nAnd who says sex has to involve two people? Masturbation can be especially helpful for women who have a hard time climaxing during partnered sex; it helps them become familiar with their bodies. Practice makes perfect, after all. \n\n### 2. Strengthen Your Pelvic Muscles \n\nYour pelvic floor muscles do a lot: They support your bladder, bowels and uterus, for instance. But they also have an important sexual function. Having stronger pelvic floor muscles can help reduce pelvic pain during intercourse and boost your ability to feel pleasurable sensations. And the best part is, you’re likely familiar with a few of these exercises, which include:\n\n* Kegels\n* Bridge pose\n* Squats\n\nYou just need to do them regularly to see results. \n\n### 3. Exercise More, Stress Less \n\nGetting your body moving can help boost your chances of achieving the big O. Not only does cardiovascular exercise increase circulation, it relieves stress and boosts confidence—all things that are needed for a healthy sex life.\n\nResearch shows that [even a small amount of exercise can boost endocrine and nervous system activity in women](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2050052118300180). Bodily changes like this can make it easier for women to get into the mood. \n\n### 4. Consume Cannabis for Better Sex \n\nOK, you knew this was coming, but seriously, there’s a reason why you keep hearing us talk about marijuana and sex: It’s because it works for a lot of people. The plant has been used as an aphrodisiac since ancient times, and this knowledge hasn’t been forgotten. \n\nSurveyed cannabis consumers say that [cannabis can increase sexual pleasure and satisfaction](https://www.jstor.org/stable/3812350?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents). Maybe that’s why [cannabis consumers have more sex](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a1db9e4eea891000897e272/cannabis-users-have-more-sex) than those who don’t consume marijuana. \n\nRELATED: [HOW CANNABIS CAN HELP WITH SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION IN WOMEN](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5b9f0a7528d6e8000971f7d5/how-cannabis-can-help-with-sexual-dysfunction-in-women)\n\nMarijuana and sex seem to be a match made in heaven. Cannabis can:\n\n* Boost libido\n* Ease anxiety\n* Reduce painful sex\n* Increase sensitivity and pleasure \n\nPut simply, the plant can help us get out of our head and into our bodies. Many companies in the modern-day cannabis market have caught on to this and are making products intended to enhance consumer’s sexual experience. Some include Kikoko’s [Sensuali-tea](https://www.hellomd.com/products/58dbfaa7536356057f2a49c5/sensuali-tea) and Dosist’s [passion](https://www.hellomd.com/products/5a5e73b85f0dc80006b97fe0/passion) and [arouse](https://www.hellomd.com/products/5970fd36117b3714502f2e4c/arouse) vape pens. \n\nOverall, when it comes to reaching your peak, it’s important to remember that everyone’s different. And while orgasms feel great, they aren’t always the hallmark of a quality sexual experience. But hopefully a few of these tips will put you on the path to more frequent and satisfying orgasms. \n\nPhoto credit: [Caroline Hernandez](https://unsplash.com/@carolinehdz)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-about-marijuana/) index of articles. They found that men who consumed cannabis more than once a week had on average a [29% lower sperm count and 28% lower sperm concentration](https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/182/6/473/82600) than men who didn't consume cannabis. \n\nThis all suggests that cannabis can drastically affect sperm count when consumed regularly. So, if you’re trying to conceive and having a hard time, marijuana could be the culprit. \n\nBut don’t start thinking of cannabis as a form of male birth control. It’s still very possible to get someone pregnant while using cannabis. Lani J. Burkman, Ph.D., the researcher who led the 2003 study, says not all men who use cannabis suffer from infertility.\n\nShe explains, \"The men who are most affected likely have naturally occurring borderline fertility potential, and THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) from marijuana may push them over the edge into infertility.\" \n\nStill, most men who have borderline fertility potential don’t know it, and overall [sperm counts have been dropping in the Western world over the last 40 years](https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/sperm-count-dropping-in-western-world/). As sperm counts fall for other reasons, understanding the effects from cannabis may become increasingly more important for those who want to have kids. \n\nThe good news is that a decline in sperm count seems to reverse after a period of marijuana abstinence. So, if you’re worried about your cannabis consumption negatively affecting your sperm count, take a little break from marijuana. \n\n#### Marijuana Is Linked to Hyperactivated Sperm\n\nInterestingly, Burkman also found in her research that the [sperm of cannabis-using men were affected by something called “hyperactivation.”](http://www.buffalo.edu/news/releases/2003/10/6427.html) These sperm acted differently than the sperm of most men who didn’t consume cannabis.\n\nUsually, after ejaculation, the sperm will remain in a resting state, moving with the semen rather than swimming themselves. Then, at a certain point, the sperm kick into gear and start swimming to get to the egg. \n\n[Hyperactivated sperm start swimming early](http://www.sexhealthmatters.org/sex-health-blog/marijuana-and-male-sex-health). They start swimming too quickly and so may tire themselves out before the period when their swimming is most crucial. While we need more research to fully understand the implications of this finding, it helps explain why some may have trouble conceiving while consuming cannabis. \n\n#### Cannabis Can Lower Testosterone—But Not Permanently \n\nAnother worry is that cannabis can cause reduced testosterone in men. Animal studies have shown this can happen in male mice, rats and monkeys. In these studies, [researchers found lowered testosterone rates in animals that were chronically exposed to cannabis](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6090909). Researchers also found reduced prostate and seminal vesicle weights as well as altered testicular function.\n\nResearchers have also found [decreases of testosterone in human males using cannabis](https://www.nejm.org/doi/pdf/10.1056/NEJM197404182901602). But research in humans has been limited, and [studies sometime conflict or contradict each other](https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJM197411142912003). While some support the idea that cannabis use lowers testosterone, others find that [testosterone changes we’ve seen in the research aren’t statistically significant](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5609c60b3438380006940000/cannabis-use-has-different-sexual-health-effects-for-men-and-women). \n\nOne ray of hope is that testosterone loss doesn’t seem to be permanent. In animal studies, subjects continually exposed to marijuana seemed to develop a tolerance to the effect of the plant on testosterone levels. Plus, stopping cannabis exposure altogether seemed to restore testosterone to normal levels. \n\n### Fertility Concerns for Cannabis-Consuming Women \n\nWhile the conversation around cannabis-related infertility often seems to focus on men, there are also fertility concerns for women. Here are few of the issues women should consider when evaluating whether they should put cannabis to the side while trying to get pregnant.\n\n#### Cannabis Is Linked to Disrupted Menstrual Cycles \n\nAs with testosterone in men, there are worries that cannabis may mess with a woman's hormonal cycle. In fact, some research shows that [cannabis can increase the likelihood of skipped or delayed ovulation, and even cause problems with embryo implantation](http://europepmc.org/abstract/med/21196184). A study in 1990 showed [slight increases in ovulatory abnormalities for cannabis-consuming women](https://www.jstor.org/stable/25759797?seq=1#page_scan_tab_contents). That said, the study couldn’t demonstrate consistency in the effects. In fact, the only group that seemed effected was the group that consumed cannabis with low frequency. \n \nThis makes sense with animal studies, which show that primates can develop a tolerance to the cycle-disrupting effects of cannabis. [While primates given THC regularly experience an initial disruption to their ovulation cycles, after being exposed for some time, [they become THC-tolerant, and their cycles go back to their previous state](http://science.sciencemag.org/content/219/4591/1453).\n\nIn other words, starting a regimen of cannabis use right before you try to get pregnant could lead to some problems. But if you’re a long-term medical marijuana consumer, you’re likely to experience disrupted menstrual cycles. \n\n#### Marijuana Can Create an Inhospitable Environment for Sperm\n\nWomen who use cannabis should also understand the effect it may have on sperm trying to enter their reproductive system. Increased levels of THC may create an environment that hinders sperm from making their journey into the egg. Studies show that sperm exposed to THC are [less able to release a special enzyme that they use to travel through the egg’s cell wall and into the egg](http://www.sexhealthmatters.org/sex-health-blog/marijuana-and-male-sex-health). \n\n#### Can I Consume Cannabis During Pregnancy? \n\nAnother risk factor for women who consume cannabis while trying to get pregnant is what happens if they succeed and continue using cannabis before discovering they’re pregnant. While more research needs to be done, there are some [concerns about cannabis use during pregnancy](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55ff19116662310006a20000/the-cannabis-and-pregnancy-debate). \n\nSome point to a study, which concluded that THC crosses into the placenta and [affects the fetus’s developing brain](http://emboj.embopress.org/content/early/2014/01/27/embj.201386035). Others point to a different study performed in the 1980s in Jamaica; this one suggested [cannabis exposure had no effect on children’s cognitive functioning](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8121737). HelloMD’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Perry Solomon recommends that women who believe they may be pregnant stop cannabis use immediately to avoid any complications. \n\n### Cannabis Consumers Get Pregnant at Normal Rates\n\nWith all of the bad press about cannabis leading to infertility, and the research showing the many fertility factors it can affect, you’d think we could say with confidence that cannabis leads to lower fertility. But the research isn’t that clear. \n\nIn fact, research looking at whether cannabis-consuming couples end up conceiving shows no connection between cannabis use and pregnancy. A recent study looked at \ncouples trying to get pregnant, and found that [cannabis consumers were just as successful in conceiving as their non-cannabis consuming counterparts](https://jech.bmj.com/content/early/2017/12/21/jech-2017-209755). Perhaps cannabis is boosting another fertility factor we don’t know about and making up for the fertility problems described above? \n\nThat’s just one theory. But we need more research to get the full picture on how cannabis interacts with fertility. In the meantime, consulting with a qualified doctor who has experience with cannabis is the best way to learn about how to navigate the questions about cannabis and fertility. There’s no shame if you’ve found yourself in a sexual rut. You aren’t alone. There are virtually endless factors that can affect a person’s sex life: stress, depression, exhaustion, low self-esteem, weight fluctuations or a plain old busy schedule. All of these can all lead a person to feel less than keen on sexy time. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\nThat said, sex can still be an important stress-relieving and mood-boosting activity. Not to mention a healthy sex life can help you and your partner feel more intimately connected. So, if you’ve found yourself feeling blasé about sex, try some of these holistic tips to increase your sex drive. \n\n### Maintain a Regular Exercise Regimen\n\nA regular exercise routine is like hydrating properly: All prevailing scientific evidence shows it to be fundamental to living a healthy life. Exercise can go a long way to boosting your self-confidence and body image, helping you feel more comfortable with the skin you’re in. And let’s face it, when we feel good about ourselves, we’re more likely to feel good enough to get undressed in front of someone else. \n\nRELATED: [TOP 5 CANNABIS STRAINS TO INCREASE YOUR SEX DRIVE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a80d19af24d1300077ccb3f/top-5-cannabis-strains-to-increase-your-sex-drive) \n\nBeyond how exercise can make us feel about ourselves, physical fitness can also improve our sex drive. \n\nTo assess the effects of short (30 minute) exercise sessions on sexual function in women, researchers from the University of Austin reviewed a body of published studies on the topic. They concluded that [acute exercise likely improves the “physiological sexual arousal in women\"](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2050052118300180) by increasing sympathetic nervous system activity and endocrine factors. \n\nAnother study published in the _Archives of Sexual Behavior_, tested whether [exercise can enhance the sex drive in sedentary men](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007%2FBF01541546?LI=true). The researchers gathered a group of 78 sedentary but otherwise healthy men with a mean age of 48.\n\nFor nine months, they underwent supervised group exercise for 60 minutes per day, three-and-a-half days per week on average. The men were asked to keep a detailed diary of their food intake, smoking habits and sexual activity throughout the study. \n\nOn the whole, the researchers found that men in the exercise group saw an increase in sexual enhancements defined as:\n\n* Intimate activities\n* Reliability of adequate functioning during sex\n* Percentage of satisfying orgasms\n\nThe degree of sexual improvement correlated with the men’s degree of individual improvement in physical fitness. \n\n### Eat Foods That May Boost Libido\n\nLet’s be real. More often than not, headlines about sex super foods are far from reliable. Many of the foods billed as magical aphrodisiacs aren’t actually all that effective in real life. But there are a couple natural foods that have preliminary scientific backing for their sex-positive claims. \n\nOysters have long been called an aphrodisiac; even Casanova himself claimed to eat 50 raw oysters every morning for the sexual benefit. But are these little shellfish really the arousal-boosting food so many claim them to be?\n\nActually, there’s some scientific evidence to support that claim. Oysters are rich in zinc, a mineral [essential for sperm development and sexual maturation](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/4077582). In addition to zinc, oysters also have two amino acids that have been shown to increase sex hormones in rats: D-aspartic acid and N-methyl D-aspartic acid.\n\nThat said, it’s important to note that there’s no equivalent study on humans regarding these amino acids and their relationship to sex hormones.\n\nRed ginseng is an herbal remedy that comes up when talking about sex. Red ginseng is a Korean plant that’s harvested after six years, then steamed and dried with the peel on. It’s one of the most common herbal remedies used throughout the world for everything from strengthening the immune system to stress to erectile dysfunction. \n\nWhether all of these claims are true is another story, but at least one systematic review of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) lends credence to the claim that [red ginseng can help with erectile dysfunction](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2561113/). Researchers looked at seven RCTs focused on the efficacy of red ginseng as a treatment for erectile dysfunction (ED). While researchers noted a positive connection between ED and red ginseng, they also noted that the sample size and methodological rigor of these studies reviewed were both too low to make any real conclusions. \n\n### Keep Your Alcohol Consumption Low\n\nIt’s no secret that when you drink too much alcohol, it’s near impossible to have good-quality sex. For men, too many drinks could result in an acute case of erectile dysfunction. For women, it can mean a lack of lubrication that can lead to painful and unenjoyable intercourse.\n\nIn order for erections and natural lubrication to happen, [enough blood must flow to the genitals](https://www.jsm.jsexmed.org/article/S1743-60951532665-5/fulltext). Alcohol dehydrates and depresses the nervous system, making it much harder to keep a full erection or proper lubrication for sex.\n\nAnd even if you’re able to achieve an erection or lubrication, alcohol-fueled sex can still end up being unfulfilling. By depressing the nervous system, alcohol can also numb the sexual sensitivity that’s required for arousal. This can lead to unachieved orgasms and overall lackluster sex. And bad sex isn’t exactly going to help you get out of your sexual rut. So, limit your alcohol intake to one or two drinks if you plan to have sexy time after. \n\n### Try Cannabis Before & In Bed\n\nHave you heard the big news? Cannabis consumers have more sex. According to a study by Stanford University published in the _Journal of Sexual Medicine_, [regular cannabis consumers have 20% more sex than non-cannabis consumers do](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a1db9e4eea891000897e272/cannabis-users-have-more-sex).\n\nThis conclusion was based on a review of a survey by the Centers for Disease Control with nearly 50,000 participants between the ages of 24–45. While researchers didn’t go as far as to say cannabis was the cause of the sexual increase, other signs point to how this could be the case. As we’ve shared with the HelloMD community, [cannabis can help increase blood flow to erogenous zones](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/59cbf7bb19d92c2a8ec994db/three-popular-questions-about-marijuana-and-sex-answered) and melt away the stress and anxiety that can keep us from fully enjoying sexual experiences. \n\nTo try cannabis before or during a romp between the sheets, you can rely on brands that have specific products formulated to help deliver sexual pleasure. \n\n[Foria Pleasure](https://www.hellomd.com/products/56a2c3d259ed4d000c000031/foria-pleasure) is a natural sensual enhancement cannabis oil that’s designed to harness the effects of marijuana to promote relaxation and increase blood flow, creating a therapeutic aphrodisiac. Those things that support health and the survival of the species are rewarded through powerful messages to the brain’s pleasure-reward-memory circuits. Now, research reveals that the recently discovered endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a driving force behind that messaging, particularly where sex is concerned.\n\nAccording to a widely reported study from Germany originally published in the _Journal of Sexual Medicine_ in November 2017, [masturbating to orgasm can trigger the production of a potent natural cannabinoid](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/29110806) called 2-arachidonoylglycerol, or 2-AG for short. When that happens, 2-AG activates receptors in the brain’s pleasure circuit, sending messages to do that again, because it feels good. This study had limitations, but it revealed new insights about the functions of the body’s far-flung network of cannabinoid receptors—and how cannabis can be useful for enhancing sexual activity and helping people overcome sexual dysfunctions.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### This Is Your Body on Endocannabinoids\n\nThe ECS is one of many systems in the body that are made up of G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) systems. These networks of cells are stimulated to send messages in response to the presence of a trigger such as a protein or a peptide. ECS receptors are found throughout the tissues, organs and many areas of the brain (except the brainstem), and research suggests that it might be the most densely populated receptor system in the body. \n\nRELATED: [WHAT IS THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM?](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5751cbd970410e000b00003a/what-is-the-endocannabinoid-system)\n\nThe ECS plays a major role in maintaining homeostasis, or balance, among the body’s many different processes. That includes maintaining body temperature, supporting the functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, moderating pain and boosting the immune system. \n\nSo far, research has discovered two different cannabinoid receptors called, imaginatively enough, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are prevalent in the brain, spinal cord and parts of the digestive system, while CB2 receptors occur in organs and tissues throughout the body. These receptors respond in the presence of a group of natural cannabinoids that are produced during activities such as exercise, meditation and sexual activity.\n\nWith the possible exception of the opioid receptor system, each of the body’s GPCR receptor systems is generally primed to respond to a single ligand—a molecule that’s able to bind to another molecule on the cell’s surface. But the [ECS has not just one, but two ligands](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3481524/).\n\nThe most abundant of those natural cannabinoids is anandamide, named after the Sanskrit word for bliss, _ananda_. The other is 2-AG. The fact that both of these chemicals can trigger responses in the ECS is one of the many reasons the ECS is unique in its scope and power to affect a long list of physical processes and health conditions.\n\nAnandamide and 2-AG can be activated independently of each other and can attach to different receptors. CB1 is triggered primarily by anandamide, and CB2 by 2-AG. The German study revealed that during sexual activity these natural cannabinoids behave differently. This offers new insights into the [relationship between cannabinoids and sexual response](https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/masturbating-science-orgasms-create-rush-marijuana-trey-reckling/).\n\nThe natural cannabinoids in the cannabis plant are so similar to the ones produced by the body itself that they bind to the same receptors, so that cannabis compounds such as tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD) are able to trigger the same responses in the brain and body. That explains why cannabis can be used to treat a long and growing list of many very diverse health conditions—and why it can affect sexual responses as well.\n\n### Masturbation, Orgasm & 2-AG\n\nSexual activity of all kinds sends messages to the brain’s pleasure, reward and memory circuit, stimulating the release of dopamine, often called the “feel good” chemical. It can also release oxytocin, another chemical that triggers feelings of closeness, affection and relationship. In the brain, these messages encode the experience as pleasant and worth repeating. But it wasn’t until relatively recently that researchers learned that the ECS may be the driving force behind the kind of positive messaging that ensures people keep doing the activity.\n\nSexual activity, like exercise, ramps up the production of endocannabinoids. Researchers believed that the one most frequently produced was anandamide, well known for its feel-good properties. But when researchers looked closely at the blood plasma levels of a group of volunteers willing to masturbate for science, they found that the body actually expressed higher levels of 2-AG. \n\nBecause the ECS responds not only to the endocannabinoids produced by the body, but also to ones consumed in various kinds of cannabis products, this study and related research suggest the connection between orgasm and 2-AG. Since 2-AG rewards the brain for having an orgasm, this encourages the body to do it again. This means that cannabis could be helpful in treating sexual problems such as loss of libido or erectile dysfunction. Hopefully, more research on the subject will be forthcoming. \n\n### Can Cannabis Enhance Sexual Activity?\n\nThe 2017 German study was based on the experience of a group of volunteers who masturbated, but other studies exploring how cannabis affects sex have generally focused on whether—and how—cannabis affects sexual activities with partners. Cannabis in all of its forms typically promotes relaxation and reduces anxiety, which can boost positive feelings. The plant’s effects on the ECS can trigger the release of a variety of chemicals related to the pleasure-reward-memory circuits in the brain. \n\nResearch remains to be done on the specific ways in which the ECS—and cannabis—can affect sexual activity of all kinds. But the results are in: Whether you’re with a partner or going solo, the compounds in cannabis can send the right messages to the body and brain.\n\nPhoto credit: [Viliman Viliman](https://unsplash.com/@vilimanovicnevena)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post.
