For years, male cannabis consumers have sworn that the herb helps [increase sexual stamina](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-improves-your-sex-life-the-top-5-reasons-you-should-give-cannabis-a-try) and enhance sexual sensation and now research is starting to back those claims up. \n\n![Untitled63-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled63_min_459d2c3639.png)\n\n### Weed & Sex\n\nHelloMD recently conducted a survey of over 1,400 cannabis users. The survey results showed men and women reporting that cannabis had helped [enhance their sex\nlives](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-use-has-different-sexual-health-effects-for-men-and-women) and increase their sexual desire. What's more, this study isn't the only\none of its kind. In fact, a [2012 survey](http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/02791072.1982.10471911?journalCode=ujpd20) conducted by the **University of Kansas Medical School** also revealed that marijuana enhanced sexual desire and performance in respondents.\n\nWhile doctors aren't sure exactly how cannabis manages to do this, they do know that it [promotes the release of oxytocin](http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2005/07/050720065810.htm),\nthe \"bonding hormone\" that makes us feel closer to our sexual partners. Because of this, marijuana has often been classified as a sexual stimulant, and consumers have been taking advantage of it for years to help them perform better in the bedroom and enjoy sex more.\n\n![Untitled65-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled65_min_5236385225.png)\n\n### Traditional Medicine and Cannabis\n\nDespite what two broad-reaching surveys have found, traditional medical literature doesn't always back these claims up. In the past, studies have found that cannabis can [harm sexual\nfunction](http://www.healthline.com/health/erectile-dysfunction/is-smoking-weed-good-or-bad-for-ed), even going so far as to [cause erectile dysfunction](http://blog.sfgate.com/smellthetruth/2015/10/06/weed-dick-marijuana-may-cause-erectile-dysfunction-study-shows/) (ED) or deplete testosterone levels in men. Even modern-day doctors like\n[Rany Shamloul](https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ptr.5074), Ph.D., have conducted more recent [studies and reviews](http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/02/110222122212.htm) that claim to prove a positive link between the use of marijuana and the occurrence of ED.\n\nWhile the medical evidence may seem convincing, cannabis doctors are urging consumers to avoid jumping to conclusions about the proof these studies offer that cannabis harms sexual function. These doctors state that traditional studies that look at male sexual performance and cannabis are poorly structured and in need of a more updated approach. Unfortunately, these doctors also acknowledge that it [may take quite some time](http://www.mensjournal.com/health-fitness/health/can-marijuana-save-your-sex-life-20160229) before American universities and other medical establishments begin researching sex and cannabis in earnest.\n\n![Untitled64-min.png](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Untitled64_min_932fdca536.png)\n\n### The Future of Cannabis and Sexuality\n\nWhile traditional medicine may be lagging behind on this issue, doctors like HelloMD's own Chief Medical Officer, [Perry Solomon](https://www.linkedin.com/in/perry-solomon-md-2b27a65/), M.D., are forging ahead and prescribing cannabis to men struggling with ED, decreased libido or difficulty achieving orgasm. In the words of Dr. Solomon, \"*The way I see it, why not try cannabis? There are side effects to Viagra and zero side effects to cannabis when dosed properly*.\"\n\nWhile cannabis may be helpful in the bedroom in small doses, Solomon advocates being careful about how much consumers use. Too much marijuana can leave men feeling classically \"stoned\" and rob them of their desire to have sex at all. To avoid this, Solomon advocates that consumers use a [vape pen](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/everything-you-need-to-know-about-disposable-vape-pens) about five minutes before sex in order to time the effects of the marijuana with sexual activity. Additionally, Solomon recommends using a strain of marijuana that contains [less than 14 percent THC](https://www.hellomd.com/articles/high-cbd-marijuana-strains) and ensuring that male users consume marijuana slowly, to avoid taking too much.\n\nInterestingly, female marijuana consumers don't need to be as careful about dose as their male counterparts. While men may risk a decrease in sexual performance or desire with too much marijuana, women are relatively tolerant to virtually any dose.\n\nWhile [further research is needed](http://www.huffingtonpost.com/playboycom/how-marijuana-affects-male-sexual-performance_b_8224046.html) to bring cannabis into the mainstream as a way to enhance male sexual performance and treat conditions like ED and premature orgasm, doctors like Perry Solomon believe deeply in the treatment and are looking forward to seeing it prescribed more often to patients.","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/png;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.492537313432836,"src":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/ee604/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png","srcSet":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/69585/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 200w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/497c6/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 400w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/ee604/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 800w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/fb92e/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.png 1184w","srcWebp":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/58556/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/61e93/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 200w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/1f5c5/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 400w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/58556/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 800w,\n/static/26399da3dfb7d56203ba21090d261170/d8912/9238181f5b6d3f0348feb45a0a299d34.webp 1184w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_3869-markdown","title":"What Are The Best Work-From-Home Cannabis Products?","slug":"what-are-the-best-work-from-home-cannabis-products","content":"As wave after wave of the coronavirus pandemic sweep over us, we continue to see a massive shift in how we work. The remote home office is now a new cultural norm worldwide, with no end in sight. In most cases, this shift to work-from-home was thought to be temporary, but this is now a permanent part of organizations' work culture for many.\n\n### Remote Work - the Good and the Bad\n\n![Work-from-home is the new norm, but may be challenging for many - cannabis can help](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_02_01_at_1_10_58_PM_3bb6f631d3.png)\n\nRemote working has many benefits, including not having to commute, helping to achieve work-life balance, and being more available to vulnerable family members, especially children and the elderly. But this move away from the office place also comes at a cost. Adding to the stress and isolation that already is part of Covid-19, teleworking arrangements can cause further isolation, including:\n\n- Mental health issues such as anxiety and stress\n- Interrupting sleep patterns\n- Too much time on the computer, including video conferencing\n- Little to no interaction with other people\n- Additional workload caring for children and elderly family members\n\n![Remote work can be hard on people - cannabis may help lessen the stress and anxiety associated with it](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_02_01_at_1_14_29_PM_8e6715df7b.png)\n\nThis situation can be worse for employees that are not properly supported by their workplace. For example, many employees may need extra coping tools for their remote situation, including additional time off or even therapeutic counseling.\n\n### Mental Health Services for Remote Workers\n\nA May 2021 [survey conducted by the American Psychiatric Association (APA)](https://www.psychiatry.org/newsroom/news-releases/as-americans-begin-to-return-to-the-office-views-on-workplace-mental-health-are-mixed) reported that only one in five workers reported that their employer offered additional mental health services since the start of the pandemic—down from 35% the previous year. At the same time, fewer employees claim they can talk openly about mental health at work.\n\n![Talk therapy can help some people suffering from PTSD](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_01_25_at_8_37_24_PM_05a4275121.png)\n\nThe majority of remote workers say they \"experienced negative mental health impacts, including isolation, loneliness, and difficulty getting away from work at the end of the day.\"\n\n### The Role Cannabis Can Play in Remote Work Health Challenges\n\nWhile this is a multilayered problem requiring a suite of solutions, cannabis increasingly plays a role in helping people cope with Covid-19. In addition to helping with [mental and physical health issues](https://hellomd.com/articles/does-medical-marijuana-help-with-covid-related-symptoms) cannabis can help you to stay focused, calm, and productive.\n\n![Getting your medical marijuana card allows you to buy legal marijuana in New York](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_01_26_at_10_39_10_PM_f08ab2a575.png)\n\nCannabis is often part of a broader set of [treatments for depression, anxiety, and stress](https://hellomd.ca/articles/5-ways-to-cope-with-covid-induced-depression-and-anxiety). CBD products are a good choice for anxiety and stress since this cannabinoid can provide relief without the intoxicating effects of THC. This cannabinoid may especially appeal to remote workers who seek relief without having productivity undercut.\n\nNot only can weed help with the [symptoms of Covid-19](https://hellomd.com/articles/does-medical-marijuana-help-with-covid-related-symptoms), different forms and strains can [help with creativity and focus](https://hellomd.ca/articles/5-ways-to-be-more-productive-including-taking-cannabis), which for many is a struggle when working from home.\n\n![Microdosing is a great way to take small amounts of cannabis for relief](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_02_01_at_1_16_56_PM_2bfc3df292.png)\n\n### Microdosing: Cannabis Productivity Without the High\n\nTo avoid an unwanted workday weed high, you can pick products that have no or low doses of THC, which may favor CBD over THC as the cannabinoid of choice.\n\nAnother way to stay clear-headed and on task is to [microdose cannabis](https://hellomd.com/articles/how-microdosing-cannabis-may-help-ease-depression). [Microdosing](https://hellomd.com/articles/microdosing-the-big-new-trend) involves taking minimal amounts of marijuana (often starting with 2g or 3g of THC) to get the effects you seek. Microdosing can not only help with health conditions, for many, it appears to increase focus and clarity.\n\n### The Best Work-from-Home Cannabis Products \n\nWhether you are coping with the stress of isolation or just want to stay more focused and productive, there are a plethora of weed products that can help you work-from-home in style. \n\nHere's our selection of the four best cannabis products for at-home remote workers:\n\n### Petra Mints by Kiva\n\n![Petra Mints by Kiva](https://hellomd-cms.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Screen_Shot_2022_02_01_at_1_18_00_PM_08f4fd85c3.png)\n\nPetra Mints prints the claim, \"having started the microdosing revolution.\" [As the pioneering California-based brand says](https://www.kivaconfections.com/brand/petra(\"These highly portable, decidedly poppable, and precisely-dosed cannabis mints boast rich flavors ranging from spicy to sour to sweet. Pineapple Express: An Uplifting Sativa-Dominant Marijuana Strain \n\n![Pineapple Express cannabis strain](https://hellomd-gcs-production.imgix.net/orphan/markdown-image-injector/ownerId/image/aa63d1fc-d62e-471a-894c-e36153f98ce3?auto=format&dpr=0.8999999761581421)\n\n**[Danielle L.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/59c02607064564000f877688/danielle-lim), senior health & wellness writer:** “If I’ve had a bad day, my go-to strain is [Pineapple Express](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5a7cd070d520d60009f4f4ad/pineapple-express). It's a sativa-dominant hybrid, but it's not too racy and is easy to find at dispensaries. If you can’t find this particular strain, you can also look for landrace strains of Hawaiian lineage, like Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. Sometimes sativas are too strong, triggering and causing stress and even raising my heart rate.”\n\nA few daily stressors can add up, so it’s important to have a relaxing routine to decompress. Here’s what works for Danielle:\n\n“Public transit and work usually cause me stress. When I consume cannabis for that, I just like to talk with my partner and vent, while watching something uplifting. I think that the upcoming election is going to make me want more cannabis in general.”\n\nIt’s also important to choose a healthy snack when consuming cannabis to deal with a bad day. A healthy diet can also impact your mood, and you don’t want the munchies to plunge you further into a negative headspace.\n\n“For snacks, I usually have some nori, because it’s low calorie,” says Danielle. “But if I’ve had a really bad day and there are chips in the house, they’re gone. Mangoes I hear can be really good. They contain a lot of [the terpene myrcene, which can boost your high](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5be271ec26ef630008f055c2/know-your-cannabis-terpenes-myrcene). I might suggest trying that with some yogurt.” \n\nRELATED: [5 EASY HAPPINESS HACKS INCLUDING CONSUMING CANNABIS](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5d34f09c3943621c56a69de0/5-easy-happiness-hacks-including-consuming-cannabis)\n \n### 2. Lamb’s Bread: A Fun Sativa Cannabis Strain for a Creative Boost\n\n![Lamb’s Bread cannabis strain](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-7368e5ac-81f8-4a4f-9711-560813918e8f/original.png)\n\n**[Sonya T.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5c4f5d814dc2bc140a8a265d/Sonya), social media manager:** “In New York where I used to live, a bad day consists of getting to the train station and finding out it isn’t running. You have to find other sources of transportation, and there are a bunch of people in need of a cab who all want to go to the same destination. So, you end up getting there an hour late, and then have to explain why. After that, getting home and making dinner are added stressors.\n\n“For bad days, I like to roll up [Lamb’s Bread](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5b281cb0f5431d0008c41b20/lambs-bread) or [GSC](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5a7ce3c1d520d60009f4f4b6/gsc). To de-stress, Lamb’s Bread is my favorite, because you can still feel productive and get into a creative zone. I like sativas that let you coast, and people say Lamb’s Bread acts like a hybrid for them. It doesn’t make me hyper-aware like [Jack Herer](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5a7cd5d1d520d60009f4f4b1/jack-herer) or [Green Crack](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5a7cc89cd520d60009f4f4a8/green-crack), which trigger my anxiety.\n\n“The flavor of Lamb’s Bread is citrusy, similar to Pineapple Express. Depending on how much I smoke, I would consider it to be pretty mild. I like to take a couple of puffs, chill for a second, then maybe 20 to 30 minutes later, pick it up and get into some creative stuff.\n\n“I always get into making music. I tried drawing for a minute with some comedic results—it was interesting. I make all sorts of music with the computer, sometimes it’s jazz or more like house.”\n\n### 3. Dutch Treat: A Social Indica-Leaning Hybrid Cannabis Strain From Amsterdam\n\n![dutch-treat-cannabis-strain](https://hellomd-gcs-production.imgix.net/orphan/markdown-image-injector/ownerId/image/d26ad544-b54d-4ee4-8b64-4dfa25e49308?auto=format&dpr=0.8999999761581421)\n\n**[Bart S.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5817af1a97ed67000a00143c/BartSmart), customer service specialist:** Sometimes if I’m hanging out with my friends, they’ll make jokes about my problems. With cannabis that can be a good thing, to help me see how I can use humor to change my perspective. So, if I’m a little stressed and need a mood booster, I go for [Dutch Treat](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5ac2bd111bb06d000861414a/dutch-treat).\n\n“I like to follow my nose when I'm trying to find strains that appeal to me. If something smells good, especially if it's fruity or citrusy, it reminds me of vitamin C and that makes me feel upbeat. I don’t get the munchies with Dutch Treat, and it helps me engage in conversation.”\n\nThat fruity smell that Bart mentioned is thanks to [the terpene limonene](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/574dfd85aa9671000c00004b/limonene-the-uplifting-citrusy-terpene). Terpenes are present in the cannabis plant as well as other plants, fruits and vegetables. They’re oils that come from the plant’s resin glands and are responsible for the plant’s taste and smell. Limonene is known to:\n\n* Reduce stomach acid\n* Fight fungal infections\n* Lower inflammation\n\nLimonene has also been shown to lessen anxiety, so it’s no wonder Bart reaches for a citrus-smelling cannabis strain when he needs to de-stress. \n\nRELATED: [KNOW YOUR CANNABIS TERPENES: LIMONENE](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a8e1261f24d1300077ccb5b/know-your-cannabis-terpenes-limonene)\n\nCannabis is also a social experience. Sharing cannabis and perspectives with people can be therapeutic and help you feel more content after a particularly stressful day.\n“If a group of strangers is smoking with me, I usually don’t talk about current events, which might be too heavy,” says Bart. “I also try to choose positive music that everyone can get into, maybe Sublime or classic rock like Jimi Hendrix.”\n\n“But if I’m alone after a particularly bad day, after consuming I like to watch TV. Travel shows and “Planet Earth” make me feel like I’m on vacation, which is calming and relaxing.” \n\nPhoto credit: LightField Studios/Shutterstock.com\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-what-you-need-to-know-about-marijuana/) index of articles. After all, Michelob featured the techniques for triggering [ASMR in a Super Bowl ad](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Blf2ZBw8xfg) last January. In the commercial, HBO star Zoë Kravitz softly whispers a few lines while creating sounds such as a gentle drumming of her fingernails on a beer bottle. A kaleidoscope of nature shots—lush, green mountains; wispy clouds; crashing waterfalls—punctuate the ad.\n\nThis combination of audio and visual stimuli is intended to produce ASMR, or more specifically, a tingly sensation across the scalp, neck or back. It’s marked by an increase in adrenaline and cortisol, leading to an elevated heart rate and short bursts of energy. \n\nIn the proper settings, stress can be an incredibly motivating tool. The “fight or flight” response is one we’re all familiar with. Stress is intended to urge a person or animal into action to get us out of dangerous situations. \n\nOnce we evade or neutralize the perceived threat, stress should melt away and elevated hormone levels should return to normal. \n\nBut if you don’t properly manage stress, it can become a chronic issue. If someone is under constant stress, their health and relationships tend to suffer as a result. \n\nChronic stress can even [change both the brain’s structure and chemistry](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0014299908000277). Others, like financial or social stress, are often ongoing issues. \n\nPrescription medication is often given to people with chronic stress or anxiety. But according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, “[CBD has shown therapeutic efficacy in a range of animal models of anxiety and stress](https://www.drugabuse.gov/about-nida/legislative-activities/testimony-to-congress/2015/biology-potential-therapeutic-effects-cannabidiol), reducing both behavioral and physiological measures of stress and anxiety.” \n\nIn one animal study, researchers gave CBD to 32 rodents. Of those treated, [31 experienced anti-anxiety effects](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4604171/). \n\nAnd in one of the limited human studies on CBD and anxiety, a group of people with social anxiety took CBD before a simulated public speaking performance. The researchers of this study conclude that CBD shows, [“promising indication of a rapid onset of therapeutic effect” in patients with social anxiety](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3079847/). \n\n### How to Take CBD for Stress\n\nThere are a few different ways to ingest CBD. You can take it via a:\n\n* Tincture\n* Topical\n* Vaporizer\n* Capsule \n* Edible \n\nSo which method is best to ease stress? It’s important to consider the cause of stress when deciding which CBD consumption method is the right one for you. \n\nPain can be a major stressor. If you’re experiencing pain in a specific area, and it’s causing chronic stress, a CBD topical can provide targeted relief. Jessica Tonani, co-founder of [Basic Jane](https://www.hellolift.com/brands/5b5a158ecad6a4000967d6d5/basic-jane), explains that chronic pain can make it very hard for people to turn their brain off at night. \n\nAccording to Jessica, [Basic Jane’s Relax products](https://www.hellolift.com/products/5beca4f22ae500a0ad82dfff/relax-pain-spray) have received “a lot of great feedback from customers that like to use these products for pain relief before bed. They note it not only relieves their discomfort, but also helps their brain relax into a restful night sleep.” \n\nShe credits Basic Jane’s special essential oil blend—including lavender and ylang- ylang—which promotes relaxation and works synergistically with CBD. \n\nFor daily maintenance to battle chronic stress, adding a [CBD edible](https://www.hellolift.com/products/5b57ad3f02f1740001522ff7/cured-spices) to your morning routine can help. Edibles take longer to work since they have to pass through the digestive system, so they can keep you medicated for a longer period of time. \n\nIf you want fast-acting relief for acute stress, a [CBD vaporizer pen](https://www.hellolift.com/products/5bb53ed015dd427039a0a351/relax-vape-pen) or [tincture](https://www.hellolift.com/products?category=Tinctures) may be a better bet. With vaporizers and tinctures, the CBD gets into your system much quicker. A vape pen will take effect almost immediately, while a CBD tincture kicks in after about 15–20 minutes. \n\nCBD shows real promise for reducing stress, but it may take trial and error to find the best method and dose for you. Regardless of the consumption method you decide to try, always start with a small amount (5–10 mg) first. Slowly work your way up from there over the course of a week or two. \n\nPhoto credit: [it's me neosiam](https://www.pexels.com/@neo8iam)\n\nWant to try CBD, but don’t know where to start? Maybe they’re not eating with abandon like usual. Or maybe they can’t bring themselves to leave their bed for morning walkies. You know they may be ill, or maybe they’re stressed or anxious, but unfortunately you can’t ask them what’s wrong, and they can’t tell you where it hurts. It’s probably the most stressful part of being a fur mom or dad. \n\nA trip to the vet is sometimes in order, but as with us humans, many of the pharmaceuticals prescribed to animals come with a laundry list of side effects. Luckily, there’s a natural medicine that pet owners can turn to for some acute situations, as well as for preventative treatment. \n\nThat medicine is cannabis.\n\n“Wait a minute,” you may be thinking. “I’m not going to get my dog or cat stoned.” Of course, that’s not what we’re suggesting. There’s a way you can harness the benefits of the cannabis plant for your furry family member without any psychoactivity—and that’s with the use of hemp.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### What Is Hemp?\n\nHemp is a variety of the cannabis plant, _Cannabis sativa_. Psychoactive recreational and medical marijuana products come from a version of the _Cannabis sativa_ plant that contains cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)—along with a battery of other cannabinoids and terpenes.\n\nBut hemp plants have almost exclusively CBD, the non-psychoactive cannabinoid. In fact, by law, hemp plants must only contain less than 0.3% THC, a negligible amount that doesn’t cause a head high. \n\n### CBD & Its Benefits\n\nSo, CBD products made from hemp won’t give the consumer a psychoactive experience, but they will be able to reap CBD’s benefits. The cannabinoid has been shown to help with:\n\n* Inflammation\n* Pain\n* Nausea and vomiting\n* High blood sugar \n* Anxiety\n* Stress \n* Epilepsy\n\nRELATED: [USING CBD TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR PET'S ANXIETY](https://hellomd.com/articles/using-cbd-to-take-care-of-your-pets-anxiety)\n\n### Is CBD OK for Animals?\n\nThe reason that so many humans find relief from a variety of health conditions with CBD is because the cannabinoid acts on the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is a network of receptors that’s pretty much found in every part of the body. The ECS influences so many processes including:\n\n* Digestion\n* Pain\n* Inflammation\n* Hunger\n* Mood \n\nThe body makes endocannabinoids naturally that bind with the ECS receptors to affect these mechanisms. But sometimes the body doesn’t make enough of its own endocannabinoids. \n\nResearchers now think that an unbalanced ECS has a lot to do with many health problems. And a way to top up natural endocannabinoid levels and help balance the ECS is to supplement with cannabinoids from cannabis.\n\nSo, how does this relate to our pets’ health? Well, animals also have an ECS. This means that a sick animal could benefit from a balanced ECS, and can balance theirs using cannabis, too. \n\n### Why Should I Give My Pet Hemp-Derived CBD?\n\nIf you’re interested in treating your pet with cannabis, CBD is your best bet. As we’ve said, it’s non-psychoactive and can address a range of problems from anxiety to arthritis. And the easiest form of CBD to obtain, and the form you can be sure won’t give your pet a head high, is hemp-derived CBD. \n\nCBD made from hemp is available no matter what state you live in—even if there aren’t any medical marijuana laws on the books. Hemp CBD products formulated for humans will work fine for dogs or cats, but now some companies are making CBD products especially for pets.\n\nOne such company developing CBD products for animals is Holistic Hound. The company makes CBD dog treats in two different sizes, so you can choose the dose that’s right for your pup. The brand also produces a CBD-rich hemp oil. If your pet isn’t into crunchy treats, this oil can simply be drizzled onto their food or mixed with anything else they eat for easy medication.\n\nHolistic Hound says it gets feedback from pet owners that its products have helped:\n\n* Calm anxious dogs\n* Stop nighttime anxiety\n* Settle dogs down around strangers\n* Ease digestive distress due to Crohn’s disease \n* Relieve sore hips\n\n### Questions to Ask When Choosing Hemp CBD for Your Pet\n\n* **Where did the CBD come from?** Because hemp is largely unregulated, it’s very easy to purchase hemp-derived CBD that’s inferior in quality and has been extracted through dangerous means. \n\n> Substandard CBD won’t actually have too much of the cannabinoid in it and will therefore lack the benefits of CBD. Plus, [the hemp plant is what’s known as a bioacculumator](https://hellomd.com/articles/what-to-watch-out-for-when-buying-hemp-cbd-oil). This means that it absorbs chemicals from the soil and those chemicals are stored in the plant’s tissues. So, if the plant is farmed using any pesticides, they may show up in the final product. \n\n> Some questionable extraction methods could leave traces of harmful chemicals in the CBD, again something you don’t want your beloved pet ingesting.\n\n> When doing your research on hemp-derived CBD products for your pet, make sure the company sources its hemp from the United States or Europe. Steer clear of hemp grown in China and Indonesia, which is known for being less than healthy. \n\n* ** Was the CBD lab tested?** A quality company will have all of its products lab tested by a third party for purity. Most reputable companies will say on their product labels and website that their products are lab tested. They may even provide the lab results, too. \n\n* ** What’s the label say?** Just as if you were shopping for yourself, scrutinize the hemp CBD labels to make sure there’s nothing added that will harm your pet. Ingredients you have trouble pronouncing or that you’ve never heard of before can be an easy way to spot products that may not be the best choice. \n\nRight here in the HelloMD office, many of us have turned to CBD treats to help our pets live their best lives. In fact, co-founder Pamela Hadfield credits CBD for helping her dog, Desmond, ease his shoulder pain at 14 in his last year and a half of life. Others have turned to CBD to help their dogs get their appetite back, move better and calm down when it’s time to go in the car or when they have to stay home on their own.\n\nAnd really, you don’t have to wait until your pet is visibly sick to treat them with CBD. Many in the cannabis industry believe that humans should think of the cannabinoid as a vitamin or supplement, something you can take daily to boost your health and help prevent problems in the future. And the same can go for your cat or dog—CBD can be your pet’s ticket to maintaining good health for years to come. \n\nPhoto credit: [rawpixel.com](https://www.pexels.com/@rawpixel)","image":{"childImageSharp":{"fluid":{"base64":"data:image/jpeg;base64,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","aspectRatio":1.3605442176870748,"src":"/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/14b42/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg","srcSet":"/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/f836f/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg 200w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/2244e/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg 400w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/14b42/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg 800w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/47498/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg 1200w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/0e329/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg 1600w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/541f7/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.jpg 3685w","srcWebp":"/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/58556/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp","srcSetWebp":"/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/61e93/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp 200w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/1f5c5/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp 400w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/58556/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp 800w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/99238/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp 1200w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/7c22d/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp 1600w,\n/static/2e283557c36e997941aeba5b9c5c528a/3726b/6490e35a6d7fbb1f50befe65efeb6ba5.webp 3685w","sizes":"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px"}}}}},{"node":{"id":"Article_2791-markdown","title":"Staff Picks: 7 Cannabis Products to Help You De-Stress","slug":"staff-picks-7-cannabis-products-to-help-you-de-stress","content":"Even the calmest, most blissed-out yogi has a stressful day once in a while. And for the rest of us, stress can arise for a number of reasons: household chores piling up, a looming job interview, a critical project at work, a sick family member—the causes are near-endless. \n\nThinking about decompressing holistically is a good way to start reducing the stress in your life. Make time for meditation, exercise regularly, be proactive about planning ahead and organizing. And why not add cannabis to your daily routine? \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Can Cannabis Really Help Me De-Stress?\n\nOne of the cannabis plant’s most prominent cannabinoids, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), has a very similar structure to an endocannabinoid we produce naturally: anandamide. [Anandamide is also known as the bliss molecule](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a949d06f24d1300077ccb66/eating-anandamide-the-bliss-molecule) because it promotes feelings of pleasure. It also plays a role in regulating other functions like motivation, appetite and memory. \n\nInterestingly, THC also increases dopamine levels, another molecule that’s tied to our pleasure responses. People who experience anxiety are thought to have low levels of dopamine. \n\nTests have shown there’s a [link between marijuana and lower stress levels](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00213-017-4648-z). In a 2017 study out of Washington State University, patients took a stress test. Some of the test subjects consumed cannabis beforehand, and some didn’t. The marijuana consumers reported less stress during the test. Their blood also showed lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. \n\nSo, the science seems to back cannabis as a stress buster. But how does this translate to real life? Seven HelloMD team members share their favorite marijuana products, which they find help them de-stress, relax and unwind.\n\n### Pax Level Remedy 3:1 Takes the Edge off, While Keeping Your Edge\n\n![Pax Level Remedy 3:1](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-9bdbfe55-b81b-4c96-8387-b0cd0eedad48/original.png)\n\n**[Kevin P.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/59928c89324eaa1d3e2ce54e/charmingkodiak1/my-story), customer service specialist:** “I like vaporizers because when I'm looking to deal with stress, I want something that's going to help right away. And I really like the [Remedy 3:1 Pax Era Pod by Level](https://www.hellomd.com/products/5abc00091bb06d0008614069/remedy-31)— that’s three parts CBD (cannabidiol) to one part THC. \n\n“Sometimes if I get really high, I may actually feel more anxious, fall asleep and then wake up in a couple of hours and still have whatever I was worried about to worry about. But with this ratio, it’s psychoactive, and I feel a little bit of a tickle, but it's more of a reduction of symptoms than getting really high. So, you just don't notice the things that stress you out as much. That's something I really like.\n\n“I especially like to vape Remedy when I'm cooking for other people. I really love to cook, but I get a little stressed when I cook for others. And I'm not one of those people who can have a glass of wine while I'm cooking to relax—that just makes me forget what I'm doing. So, just a puff or two on the vaporizer, and I can feel relaxed but still concentrate.” \n\n### Level Soothe Delta-8 THC Tablinguals Help You De-Stress & Give You Confidence \n\n![Level Soothe Delta-8 THC Tablinguals](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-398665d4-56b9-48ac-a44f-a8a0bb0d2d17/original.png)\n\n**[Danielle L.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/59c02607064564000f877688/danielle-lim/my-story), health & wellness writer:** “My favorite product for stress is [Level’s Soothe Delta-8 THC Tablinguals](https://www.hellomd.com/products/5abbf1161bb06d000861404a/soothe-tablinguals). I tried one based on HelloMD co-founder Pamela’s recommendation, and I’d say it's pretty spot on to how she describes it: like having a glass of wine. \n\n“I remember taking this tablingual before I was meeting up with somebody who I didn't really know, which made me a little anxious and stressed out. I was a lot more social, but I wasn't really conscious of it until afterwards. I was like, ‘Oh wow, that was a really nice, easy conversation that I had with somebody that I didn't really know.’ \n\n“I think for social stressors, this tablingual is really good. I’d say I didn't notice the effects right away, but as I was having a conversation with her, I was pretty conscious about how at ease I was. And then I remember after I had that conversation, it just put me in a really good mood, so I actually went out with some friends afterwards. It just kept me in a really good mood the whole time.”\n\n### Plus Sour Watermelon Sativa Gummies Lift a Bad Mood \n\n![Plus Sour Watermelon Sativa Gummies](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-566f493f-3b14-44e0-a2de-6573de6b58d2/original.png)\n\n**[Ryan G.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5978f93daa0db4145a24da3f/ryang/my-story), customer service lead:** “First off, I really like the taste of the [Plus Sour Watermelon Sativa Gummies](https://www.hellomd.com/products/58ed3ceec064b40d58fad313/sour-watermelon-sativa-gummies). And I also find that they give me a boost in energy. So, usually if I’m in a bad mood, I’ll also feel tired. But after taking these, I feel happy, I get the giggles, and I definitely feel a boost in my spirits. \n\n“My wife says she can see a total turnaround in me after I take these gummies. After they start kicking in, she’ll say, ‘Well you're laughing; you’re talkative; I can see they’re working.’ They don't make me feel out of it or spacey. It's more of a cerebral high, and they also don’t make me feel lazy or couch-locked or anything like that.\n\n“I have a pretty fast metabolism, so I start feeling the effects in less than an hour, in around 45 minutes. But because of my fast metabolism, the feeling doesn't last too long. So, what I've learned to do is take a few and just as they’re starting to kick in, wait an hour or two and then take another one to keep that good mood going. And they're small enough to where I’m pretty much microdosing when I consume them.” \n\n### Jetty’s Do Si Do Dablicator Is a Healthier Way to Decompress\n\n![Jetty Do Si Do Dablicator](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-b58abed4-0b08-4c57-8ad8-7798f49e23e3/original.png)\n\n**[Bart S.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5817af1a97ed67000a00143c/BartSmart/my-story), customer service specialist:**I like the [Do Si Do Dablicator from Jetty](https://www.hellomd.com/products/5abbf8e01bb06d000861405d/dablicatortm-do-si-do) at the end of a long day. It definitely helps me relax and puts me to sleep. So, if I end up working late, I need to unwind before I can go to sleep. This is what helps me speed up that unwinding process.\n\n“It also helps me reflect back on my day, so, if I'm too stressed out, I can kind of analyze my day and think about it and then it helps me realize, ‘Oh I can handle this. Everything is cool.’\n\n“The way I consume it is, I put the dabs in my tabletop vaporizer. I like to dab because honestly, I think it's healthier for me. When you’re smoking joints, that’s paper you’re smoking. And you use less with concentrates than with flower. So, if you’re smoking multiple grams of flower a week, that’s a lot of organic material going into your lungs. Dabs can be purer, and you don’t have to use so much, only a tiny bit.”\n\n### Tranquili-Tea From Kikoko Helps You Unwind & Get Ready for Bed \n\n![Kikoko Tranquili-Tea](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-0ba25fc8-c407-44ef-a694-58733b0e2d90/original.png)\n\n**[Veronica B.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/583c9403925c1a000b5029bb/veronicab/my-story), customer service specialist:** “Tea is great, and I find that it just really relaxes me. Cannabis really relaxes me as well, so putting these two things together in this [Tranquili-Tea from Kikoko](https://www.hellomd.com/products/58dc2cfe53635624bf2a4992/tranquili-tea) gives me a nice, little, relaxing, de-stressing cup of tea. It’s also good for relaxing the brain and focusing on resting, which can segue into restful sleep. And If I’m well-rested, then I’m definitely less stressed out. \n\n“I find the effects of the tea very mellow, so it's great for people who are pretty new to cannabis or just want to de-stress a little bit but don't want a super cerebral or full-body experience. It won't be overwhelming, but you’ll definitely feel better and relaxed. For me, it’s not intensely psychoactive, but just enough to make me feel better.” \n\n### Pax Level Float Kicks in for Quick Relief Day or Night\n\n![Float Pax Era Pod from Level](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-292c2849-75de-48c6-a775-8180d0995803/original.png)\n\n**[Nik S.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5afb562618263800077e507a/nsavelli/my-story), \ncustomer service specialist:** “I would say the [Float Pax Era Pod from Level](https://www.hellomd.com/products/5abbfeed1bb06d0008614063/float) is what I reach for when I’m feeling stressed, mainly because of its high potency. I also think the flavor is really good. It's definitely very relaxing, very calming and gives you, for lack of a better word, that floating feeling.\n\n“I really appreciate Level’s extraction process and the way it blends the terpenes back in. It doesn't have that fake glycerin taste that you get from certain other brands. I’d say Level does a really good all around.\n\n“I like the Float Pax Era Pod’s quick onset when you compare it to an edible or a gel capsule or a tincture. With other methods, I find sometimes they might give you an anxious feeling when you’re waiting to see if it will make you feel better. You may be sitting there thinking, ‘When's this going to kick in? Is this going to work well?’ And that might add to your anxiety even more. Whereas, when you're vaping, it's easier because you'll feel the effects pretty rapidly. \n\n“I think Float’s great because it can provide stimulation but can also produce other uplifting effects, including that relaxing feeling. So, it's one that can be used during the day or night.”\n\n### Unwind With Satori Wild Strawberries in Chocolate\n\n![Satori's Wild Strawberries in Chocolate](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/markdown-image-injector-e5b76855-d3f8-44f6-83ec-0285dc3f991e/original.png)\n\n**[Melissa N.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5697f4f109d7dd000c000018/melissa/my-story), office manager:** “I like the [Satori Wild Strawberries in Chocolate](https://www.hellomd.com/products/586593fb159af1000c6d05fc/wild-strawberries-in-chocolate) because they're great for microdosing and not super high in THC. If you're in a bad mood, they just lift you up. You won't be super stoned so you can still function, but it just takes the edge off.\n\n“When I'm in a bad mood, and it's hard to change the channel in my mind, I like to take these, and then I usually say to myself, ‘Oh, I feel a little better now. I don't know why I was stressed about that.’ Or if I'm feeling overwhelmed then it just kind of perks me up a little. \n\n“A lot of people de-stress with alcohol, but I don't personally really like drinking that much. When I was younger, I used to be able to go hard at it, and I would never have a hangover the next day. But now, even if I drink two beers and don't get drunk, I still feel terrible the next day. So, for me, something like this to de-stress is much more preferable. \n\n“I also really like how these taste. You can taste just a little bit of the cannabis, but not too much like other edibles, which is good because that's the biggest thing for me. I really struggle with edibles because I can taste the cannabis. But the strawberries and the chocolate do a nice job of covering it up—and who doesn't like chocolate-covered strawberries?” \n\nMain photo credit: [Nathan Cowley](https://www.pexels.com/@mastercowley)\n\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. This marijuana strain is the love child of two sativas, Mexican and Thai, and an indica, Afghani.\r\n\r\n**[Dmitry B.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5a04a8c087088100077819a9/dmitry-bikkinin), marketing videographer/editor:** “I love Trainwreck for its flavor and creative energy flow. It makes me feel euphoric. It’s like a starburst candy. If you’re stressed, Trainwreck makes you very happy. For me, it’s about changing my mood. If I’m stressed, feeling happier makes the whole difference after a stressful day.\r\n\r\n“In terms of the onset, it’s very rapid. That’s what’s great about Trainwreck. You can take just one hit, and you feel happiness just radiate into your head. From that point, you should decide if you want go full cowabunga and take more, or decide if that’s enough because you still have stuff to do.”\r\n\r\n**Dmitry recommends Trainwreck for:** all levels, though he says to proceed with caution if you’re a newbie—starting with just one puff then waiting half an hour to see how you feel.\r\n\r\n### 2. Sapphire Kush\r\n\r\nCross Titan OG with Pink Panties—both indica-dominant hybrid strains, and you get Sapphire Kush, which also has indica-dominant leanings. THC levels hover around or just above 20% in this cannabis strain hailing from Humboldt County, CA.\r\n\r\n**[Veronica B.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/583c9403925c1a000b5029bb/veronicab), customer service specialist:** “If I feel stressed, my favorite strain to unwind with is Sapphire Kush. Sapphire Kush has an amazing piney yet sweet smell that relaxes me as soon as I open the container, and once broken down, the flower becomes even more aromatic.\r\n\r\n“After smoking Sapphire Kush, I enjoy the full body relaxation of an indica along with the uplifting cerebral effects of a sativa. It makes me feel mellow; however, it can ignite my creative thoughts as well. This cannabis strain can accommodate me if I choose to de-stress outdoors or in front of the TV. I keep Sapphire Kush in my medicine cabinet to help alleviate stress at any time.\r\n\r\n“I notice the effects of Sapphire Kush almost immediately after consumption. And with a few deep breaths, I feel more of the full body effects.”\r\n\r\n**Veronica recommends Sapphire Kush for:** more experienced cannabis consumers, though she says newbies can try it, but they should consume slowly and with caution.\r\n\r\n### 3. Granddaddy Purple\r\n\r\n![Granddaddy Purple cannabis strain](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5abd6050f24d1300077ccba6-827dc995-af79-4cb2-81a3-c78d526915a8/original.jpg) \r\n\r\nIndica hybrid [Granddaddy Purple](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5a7cbbc4d520d60009f4f4a4/granddaddy-purple) registers at around 17–20% THC and less than 1% cannabidiol (CBD). This popular strain is descended from two indica strains, Purple Urkle and Big Bud.\r\n \r\n**[Bart S.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5817af1a97ed67000a00143c/bartsmart), customer service specialist:** “My favorite strain for stress relief—and it’s also my all-time favorite—is Granddaddy Purple. I enjoy Granddaddy Purple because it works well for stress relief by providing cerebral relaxation. It stimulates my appetite, which is usually lacking if I’m very stressed, plus it helps me fall asleep peacefully.\r\n\r\n“The smell of Granddaddy Purple is a unique fruity berry aroma particularly resembling that of grapes—and I put a strong emphasis on unique. The flowers are purple in color, and the buds are very dense. The taste is very sweet and matches the smell of the flower if it’s high quality. It’s the smell and taste that distinguish this marijuana strain from others.\r\n\r\n“Granddaddy Purple’s onset is a little bit delayed, but then it hits hard with a giggly knockout with a little bit of couch lock. I’d describe the effect as a dimmer switch where the lights are turned down just a little bit to provide relaxation and calm.”\r\n\r\n**Bart recommends Granddaddy Purple for:** all levels, and anyone who likes the fruity taste of cannabis.\r\n\r\n### 4. Sour Kush\r\n\r\nPopular on the West Coast as well as in Colorado and Arizona, Sour Kush comes in at 15–25% THC with trace amounts of CBD and cannabinol (CBN). An indica-dominant hybrid, this marijuana strain is descended from indica hybrid OG Kush and sativa hybrid Sour Diesel.\r\n\r\n**[Melissa N.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5697f4f109d7dd000c000018/melissa), office manager:** “One of my go-to strains for stress is Sour Kush. A cross between Sour Diesel—my all-time favorite strain—and OG Kush, this cannabis strain is both uplifting and relaxing. I like Sour Kush, because it’s great for daytime use and doesn’t make you super tired. It melts away my worries and stress, and induces euphoria and the occasional bout of giggles. I like this strain after long days at work and when I go hiking.\r\n\r\n“Sour Kush is a pretty fast-acting marijuana strain. A few puffs of my vape pen, and I can feel the effects kicking in within a few minutes. It’s a great all-around strain.”\r\n\r\n**Melissa recommends Sour Kush for:** all levels, though—as with all strains packing a potent amount of THC—take care if you’re a newbie.\r\n\r\n### 5. Girl Scout Cookies\r\n\r\n![Girl Scout Cookies cannabis strain](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5abd6050f24d1300077ccba6-18faa15f-5802-4081-9a28-aebc7385c8f1/original.jpg) \r\n\r\nA cross between OG Kush and Durban Poison, [Girl Scout Cookies (GSC)](https://www.hellomd.com/strains/5a7ce3c1d520d60009f4f4b6/girl-scout-cookies) is an indica-dominant hybrid with THC levels that start around 18% and can top out at 28%. It also contains less than 1% CBD.\r\n\r\n**[Ryan G.](https://www.hellomd.com/people/5978f93daa0db4145a24da3f/ryang), customer service specialist:** “With its sweet, earthy aroma, Girl Scout Cookies is the perfect marijuana strain to help me relax after a stressful day. It provides a full body relaxation without having the couch-lock feeling. Because GSC is a hybrid, not only do you feel relaxed and calm, but your mind is also stimulated. I tend to use this strain during high-stress times, because it stimulates appetite, which I seem to lose when I’m stressed.\r\n\r\n“For me, the onset of GSC is intense, and that’s typically when the laugh attack starts to happen. A tip for when consuming GSC is to make sure you have lots of water next to you since it does give you cotton mouth.”\r\n\r\n**Ryan recommends Girl Scout Cookies for:** all levels, though he says that less experienced cannabis consumers should gradually increase consumption.\r\n\r\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. [When we face stressful situations or emotions, our brain releases chemicals like cortisol and adrenaline](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55a41e233832300006640000/cannabis-can-relieve-stress) that put us into a fight or flight mode. While this can be helpful if you're, say, being chased by a bear, stress's effects can be brutal, with painful physical symptoms such as tight muscles, disrupted digestion, headaches, fatigue and chest pain. \r\n\r\nYou may be wondering about the difference between stress and [anxiety](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a99f400f24d1300077ccb72/finding-success-with-cannabis-to-reduce-anxiety). The two are similar and interrelated, but actually comprise very different situations. Stress is a reaction we have in response to a stressor—in other words, some life event or situation that causes a negative response. This response might be anger, frustration, sadness or anxiety. Anxiety, on the other hand, is a state of worrying that isn’t necessarily tied to an event (although it might be). This persistent sense of fear and dread is often—but not always—a symptom of stress. \r\n\r\nUnfortunately, [stress—and the symptoms that accompany it—are quite common occurrences](https://www.stress.org/daily-life/). More than three-quarters (77%) of Americans say they experience physical symptoms from stress, while 73% say they experience its psychological symptoms.\r\n\r\n[When stress from an event is severe, it can even develop into a stress disorder like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/55fc4eea3063390006b90000/cannabis-for-anxiety-and-stress-disorders). This common condition affects 8% of the population and is [characterized by flashbacks to the traumatic event, coupled with extreme stress reactions](http://www.healmyptsd.com/education/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-statistics). \r\n\r\nThankfully, many patients report that cannabis helps them cope with stressful situations as well as the symptoms they cause. \r\n\r\nRELATED: [3 POPULAR QUESTIONS ABOUT MARIJUANA & STRESS ANSWERED](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a131d7beea891000897e269/3-popular-questions-about-marijuana-and-stress-answered)\r\n\r\n### Alexis Finds Success Using Cannabis to Ease PTSD Symptoms \r\n\r\nTake Alexis, a 23-year-old patient who uses cannabis to help cope with stress. Diagnosed with PTSD from a past trauma, Alexis was overwhelmed with painful and frightening symptoms on a daily basis.\r\n\r\n“I was having flashbacks pretty much every single day about the event.” she recalls. “I would wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat, panicking and hyperventilating, sometimes even screaming. I was constantly in a heightened state of anxiety and hypervigilance. And I was jumpy; I was irritable, sometimes angry, and I just needed to be medicated.” \r\n\r\nAlexis says that doctors first put her on Zoloft in an attempt to ease her symptoms, but it didn’t really help. “I was still having flashbacks.” she says, adding, “It was kind of artificial. I never actually felt any real feeling. ... I was just kind of numb.” \r\n\r\nThen she tried cannabis and was amazed at how well it worked. “I no longer wake up in the middle of the night covered in sweat and freaking out.” she explains. “If I consume a little bit of an edible before I go to sleep, it will keep me asleep the entire night.”\r\n\r\nShe also says that her daily anxiety levels have come way down, and “when I do experience flashbacks now, which is less common, I’m able to keep more of a level head to deal with it.”\r\n\r\nWith cannabis to ease her symptoms, she’s been able to completely get off of Zoloft. Alexis says cannabis has helped her “in so many ways.”\r\n\r\n### Treating Stress With Cannabis \r\n\r\nAlexis has found help with the use of cannabis, and she’s not alone. Many patients report cannabis helps with stress and PTSD symptoms. In fact, a 2015 study in the _American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy_ found that “[substantial numbers of military veterans with PTSD use cannabis or derivative products to control PTSD symptoms](http://www.ajhp.org/content/72/15/1279.short?sso-checked=true), with some patients reporting benefits in terms of reduced anxiety and insomnia and improved coping ability.” \r\n\r\nThis makes a lot of sense when paired with new research that shows [cannabis actually reduces reactions to stress](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00213-017-4648-z). In one study, patients were given stress tests, some using cannabis and some not. Those consuming cannabis not only reported having less stress during the test, but were also found to have lower levels of cortisol in their blood. Cannabis was able to reduce stress responses at the chemical level. \r\n\r\nThis is good news for patients with chronic stressors, or an overactive stress response. Cannabis can them help keep stress levels in a manageable range. For those suffering from occasional stress, cannabis can help lessen the physical and emotional impact of a really bad day. Either way, it’s no wonder cannabis is such a popular option when it comes to reducing stress. \r\n\r\nIf you suffer from stress and think cannabis might be right for you, the best first step is to talk to a doctor. And everyone has their way of dealing with it—maybe you go for a bike ride, take your dog for a walk, kick back with a good book or wind down with your favorite TV show. But did you know that cannabis may be one of the best stress relievers out there?\n\nThat’s because marijuana contains cannabinoids that interact with our endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS is made up of receptors responsible for releasing hormones like endorphins that create a sense of euphoria and relaxation. The ECS also helps keep our bodies balanced and if we’re in balance and good health, we’re less likely to experience the negative effects of stress. \n\nHere are the top three questions about cannabis and stress from our [Answers](https://www.hellomdcom/answers) platform. Members of our community including doctors and experienced cannabis consumers supplied the answers—answers that we hope you find valuable. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Q: What is the best product for stress?\n\nAnswer: @veronicab Hi there! Cannabis is an excellent stress-buster. Many marijuana products will be able to assist you with stress-relief, but check out our articles that discuss eliminating stress with cannabis.\n\n### Q: I have a lot of stress and anxiety and wonder if OG Kush may be a good strain to try for this?\n\nAnswer: drolson If you’ve never tried OG Kush, I would caution you starting with that strain. To start, I think it's wise to take CBD cannabis to calm the stress and anxiety and to keep the CBD levels steady, then you can add OG Kush. Since OG Kush is high in THC and low in CBD, your stress may improve but you could be vulnerable to anxiety. You don’t want to do a high dose of CBD close to the time you take your OG Kush or you will end up with high CBD and high THC, potentially making you go to sleep.\n\nOG Kush does not have a lot of negative effects, mostly it is uplifting, relaxing and can even make you happy. But consider having some drops of CBD cannabis on hand so if you experience anxiety you can put one or two drops CBD tincture under your tongue for a calming effect. If your body is cannabis friendly, you could just try the OG Kush as long as you have drops of CBD available for buffering. \n\nGood luck in your experiment and remember any bad experience will wear off in a couple hours. Once you know how your body responds to CBD as well as THC, you will be in control.\n\n### Q: Best strain for daytime use?\n**_I use cannabis for stress and anxiety relief, but do not like feeling \"sleepy\" during the day. What strain would be best for mid-day use?_**\n\nAnswer: @mark Look for any strain in the sativa category, as these are better for daytime use. There are many to choose from and so your choice is more likely to depend what is available to you at your local dispensary.\n\nThere are a good selection of strains and their effects listed in the HelloMD Products section. While peering through my glasses watching the sun slowly take away the light, I heard someone comment that it seemed to be a metaphor of the turbulent times surrounding us. Given recent current events, even looking at your Facebook feed can even be an anxiety-invoking experience.\r\n\r\nBut as with the eclipse, and every experience in life, this too is temporary. It’s how we choose to move through it that makes the difference. Not everything is within our control, but what we're in control of is our own thoughts, words and actions. Staying positive, focusing on peaceful thoughts, supporting our friends and loved ones, and being the change we wish to see in the world are some things we can do to shift from darkness to light.\r\n\r\nThese may be trying times, but within the turbulence, there's an opportunity to become something greater. For instance, we can choose to grow and be grateful for what's good and true and emit our own bit of peace into the world.\r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\r\n\r\nWith that, here are 5 TED talks we find inspiring and thought provoking:\r\n\r\n### The Power of Mindfulness\r\n\r\n`embed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IeblJdB2-Vo`\r\nDr. Shauna Shapiro talks about being present in the moment through meditation and demonstrates how mindfulness can help us make positive changes in our brains and our lives. What you practice grows stronger.\r\n\r\n### How Laughing at Yourself Can Change the World\r\n\r\n`embed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3S__-5-FHQ`\r\nBrad Jenkins is half Korean and half African American.
