And one of the best ways to pass the time is by watching soothing, low-stakes television. We’ve gathered a few shows you can try out when you need to distract yourself from the effects of consuming too much marijuana. \r\n\r\nYou won’t find “Black Mirror” or “The Handmaid’s Tale” on this list. We’re not trying to blow your mind or send you on a trippy, cerebral experience—that’s the last thing you need. This list is all about easy-to-follow, feel-good TV that’s meant to help get you through tough times. So relax, breathe, drink some water and remember that all of this will pass. \r\n\r\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\r\n\r\n### 1. “The Great British Baking Show”\r\n\r\n![The Great British Baking Show](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5ab2b611f24d1300077ccb95-5ac0cdfd-d8a8-4128-a7b8-9e095c517d1d/original.png)\r\n\r\nIf your mind is scattered, unable to focus and panicking as a result of cannabis over-consumption, an episode of “The Great British Baking Show” is sure to draw you in and lull you into a state of tranquility. This is riveting, low-stakes television at its finest—the perfect distraction. \r\n\r\nThe show centers on 12 amateur bakers who gather in a tent in the English countryside to partake in a baking competition that involves no cash prizes and very little glory. This might be one of the few—if only—competitive cooking shows where the contestants actually help each other, a mentality that gives you an idea of the show’s aesthetic. \r\n\r\nThe bakers’ trials and tribulations are insignificant, yet inexplicably compelling. Will the mousse set in time? Will the pastry be crisp enough? You’ll be so caught up in whether someone’s cake will be baked all the way through that you’ll forget about feeling too high.\r\n\r\n**Where to watch:** Netflix\r\n\r\nRELATED: [5 TIPS TO REDUCE THE EFFECTS OF HAVING TOO MUCH CANNABIS](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/5a5cfdb5c7e0180007a78273/5-tips-to-reduce-the-effects-of-having-too-much-cannabis)\r\n\r\n### 2. “Hidden Kingdoms”\r\n\r\n![Hidden Kingdoms](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5ab2b611f24d1300077ccb95-bcf011f1-1bc8-41ed-bb15-5a01ee23fef3/original.png)\r\n\r\n“Planet Earth” and marijuana were meant to be paired together—there’s something about witnessing the glory of nature that’s both awe-inspiring and soothing. That’s why this stunning documentary series is on every cannabis enthusiast’s must-watch list—regardless of whether you’re too high or perfectly elevated. But if you’ve already seen every episode of “Planet Earth” and “Planet Earth II,” watching “Hidden Kingdoms” is the way to go. \r\n\r\nWhile most nature documentaries concentrate on large, charismatic animals and the places they roam, “Hidden Kingdoms” focuses on the earth’s tiniest creatures and the secret worlds they inhabit. If you’re looking for a silly, light-hearted story about chipmunks gathering acorns for the winter, this is the documentary for you. You might also find yourself fixated on the concept of scale or lost in a dense jungle that’s actually made up of blades of grass. Wherever your mind goes, it won’t be thinking about how uncomfortably high you are. \r\n\r\n**Where to watch:** Netflix\r\n\r\n### 3. “Dogs With Jobs”\r\n\r\n![Dogs With Jobs](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5ab2b611f24d1300077ccb95-f08fb4b6-03c0-427b-9465-db3c669b5afb/original.png)\r\n\r\nIf you’re in one of those moods where everything is somehow anxiety-inducing, “Dogs With Jobs,” a wholesome Canadian documentary series about working dogs, might be the thing to calm you down. The show features canines from a variety of professions—from traditional search and rescue dogs to many others who’ve created special niches for themselves, like Kelsey, a rodeo performer and Duncan, a freestyle dancer. \r\n\r\nThis family-friendly series features two to three dogs per 30-minute episode and includes footage of the dogs working, their relationships with their handlers and their various back stories. Film critic Matthew Hays of _The New York Times_ calls the show, “as simple and as slightly absurd as its name.” While the series itself has a bit of a dated look, its heartwarming antics will surely help you relax and realize that everything’s going to be alright. \r\n\r\n**Where to watch:** YouTube \r\n\r\n### 4. “Parks and Recreation” \r\n\r\n![Parks and Rec](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5ab2b611f24d1300077ccb95-f096ed89-6123-46c8-a7c8-bdf5b25a22a6/original.png)\r\n\r\nSitcoms can be hard to watch when you’re too high—following a plot and dealing with the idiosyncrasies of the characters can be overwhelming. However, “Parks and Recreation,” with its never-ending optimism, deserves a place on this list. \r\n\r\nIf you’re looking to be engrossed in a world filled with goofy, loveable characters, you might want to give this show a shot. While the show is episodic, each season can stand on its own and begins with a recap—so you can often jump in at the beginning of a season and follow along. And if you’ve already seen this popular series in its entirety, it’s easy to watch again and again. Overall, “Parks and Recreation” is comfort TV at its finest, which is what you need when you’ve consumed too much tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). \r\n\r\n**Where to watch:** Netflix, Hulu \r\n\r\n### 5. “Slow TV” \r\n\r\n![Slow TV](https://hellomd-development.s3.amazonaws.com/articles-5ab2b611f24d1300077ccb95-12c2b131-abf4-4013-a34e-5dd8d8b00297/original.png)\r\n\r\nFor those times when you can’t follow a plot, “Slow TV” has got your back. This Scandinavian television series is dedicated to airing long, minimally edited footage of mundane events in real time. Their first production, “Slow TV: Train Ride Bergen to Oslo” was a surprise hit, ultimately garnering 1.2 million views in Norway—an impressive feat for a country of 5 million people. \r\n\r\n“Slow TV” can give you exactly what you need when you’re on the verge of a marijuana-induced panic attack: tranquility without the need to focus or follow a story. Move over “Seinfeld”; this is truly a show about nothing. There are many options for you to choose from: take an 11-hour journey through Norway’s Telemark Canal, join some folks as they go salmon fishing for the day, or just watch people build a fire. Whatever you decide, no judgment here—we’ve all been there. \r\n\r\n**Where to watch:** Netflix \r\n\r\nMain photo credit: [Parker Byrd](https://unsplash.com/@parkerabyrd)\r\n\r\nIf you’re new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Last week, the company set yet another bar by partnering with a dispensary in Los Angeles to distribute branded strains of cannabis at a weekend pop-up event to promote their upcoming original series “Disjointed,” which premiered on Netflix on Aug. 25. \n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en)\n\n### Pop-Up Event Sells Strains Inspired by Cannabis TV Series\n\nAt the pop-up, West Hollywood’s Alternative Herbal Health Services sold about a pound or 100 jars of its 12 strains of cannabis inspired by 10 different series on Netflix. The strains were curated based on how they make people feel and paired with corresponding shows including “BoJack Horseman,” “Arrested Development,” “Orange Is the New Black” and “Mystery Science 3000: The Return.”\n\nRELATED: [The Top 7 Marijuana Inspired TV Shows](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/the-top-7-marijuana-inspired-tv-shows)\n\nExecutive producers Chuck Lorre (“Two and a Half Men”) and David Javerbaum (“The Daily Show”) co-wrote the comedic series “Disjointed” about Ruth Whitefeather Feldman, played by Kathy Bates, who opens her own dispensary called Ruth’s Alternative Caring in Los Angeles, California. In honor of the 20-episode, half-hour series debut, Alternative Herbal Health Services sold three different strains inspired by the show called The Omega Strain (sativa hybrid), Eve’s Bush (indica hybrid) and Rutherford B. Haze (sativa hybrid).\n\nView the [“Disjointed” trailer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly019ZF0lsk).\n\n`embed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly019ZF0lsk` \n\n### How Cannabis Makes You Feel vs. Just Getting High \n\nThe strain names, though clever, weren’t the focus of the pop-up event. It was how the cannabis was supposed to make you feel while you enjoy some of your favorite shows; this follows in the footsteps of the cannabis industry beginning to turn its attention towards the resulting experience achieved with marijuana vs. just getting high. The trend of feelings-focused product lines is becoming more common as companies intentionally move away from strain names as an identifier and place more of an emphasis on the experience a consumer can expect.\n\n ![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/59b069cb7fd8a009179cc307/embedded_images/59b06bad7fd8a00f9c9cc2d1/Screen_Shot_2017-09-06_at_2.37.40_PM.png) \n\nHMBLDT and Level Blends are just two brands that have foregone strain-specific products altogether and are instead creating products based on how they make an individual feel. Both of the companies offer vape pens and cartridges that focus on the chemical compound content so that consumers can use a completely different lens that prioritizes their desired state after consumption. \n\nHMBLDT offers six different formulas—arouse, passion, bliss, sleep, calm and relief—in their dose pens, which were voted one of Time Magazine's Top 25 Inventions of 2016. Within each blend, the cannabinoid and terpene contents are clearly indicated along with the THC-to-CBD ratio, to give people more control and information about what they’re about to consume. \n\nSimilarly, Level Blends has its Classic blends—spark, high, float and dissolve—which range from sativa- to indica-dominant as well as their Harmonic blends—remedy, uplift and radiance, combining the healing properties of CBD and THC. \n\n### The Cannabis’s Emerging Place in Pop Culture\n\nNetflix’s move played as a major statement. The media giant has been one of only a few big-name mainstream companies to publicly pick the side of the cannabis debate that’s trying to dispel the stigma around marijuana. Meanwhile, companies like Facebook, Instagram and even Google continue to tout business practices that have shut down and turned away ad dollars from reputable and legally operating cannabis companies. \n\nThe company’s choice to bridge the intersection between smoking cannabis and relaxing at home while enjoying a movie or a show is yet another step towards normalizing the plant’s use among the mainstream. It brings the conversation to larger audiences and creates the opportunity for more dialogue around how cannabis can be used and integrated into all kinds of lifestyles.\n\n### TV Shows that Feature Marijuana\n\nWant to check out some other shows about cannabis? The typical stoner persona that was created within pop culture often has portrayed a group of teenage boys eating snacks, smoking marijuana, and playing video games in their parents’ basement. Though we know these single-story narratives of cannabis consumers are a negative stereotype that perpetuate stigma, it is true cannabis and video games can be used as an outlet to promote stress relief and relaxation. \r\n\r\nRELATED: [TOP MARIJUANA INSPIRED TV SHOWS](https://www.hellomd.com/search/TELEVISION/articles)\r\n\r\nBraunstein’s recent event, however, took cannabis consumption and video game playing to a whole new level. Virtual Reality, or VR, has become increasingly more popular in recent years as more companies have made it accessible to the general public. The virtual reality industry itself is expected to be worth $34 billion dollars by 2022 and much of the industry is expected to be centered in Los Angeles, where Braunstein’s business is located. \r\n\r\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58fea80103be6f370979f45e/embedded_images/58ffaee13242100013618061/Screen_Shot_2017-04-25_at_1.14.58_PM.png) \r\nImmersive experiences and cannabis seem to go together.\r\n\r\n### VR & Cannabis are a Natural Fit\r\n\r\nVirtual reality is not totally new to cannabis, and even the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) uses virtual reality to understand the effects of driving while under the influence of THC. Cannabis and virtual reality gaming events, however, are a new innovation and show the increasing desire for cannabis social gatherings across the country. Braunstein provides a variety of social events to groups that include cannabis, food, music, and other aspects that promote the enjoyment of people through the combination of various mediums. \r\n\r\nBraunstein’s events are currently all hosted with private groups of people who have medical marijuana cards in California, but that is soon to change with the implementation of recreational cannabis legalization in California in 2018. It is likely that Braunstein’s novel parties are just the first of a starting trend of high-end, private cannabis events that appeal to the growing number of people who desire to consume cannabis in interesting, stimulating environments. \r\n\r\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. It seems to be the case when we look across the TV landscape from Netflix, to CNN to YouTube, cannabis inspired programming and marijuana pop culture references abound. If we look in the way-way-back-time-machine you might remember the popular comedic duo Cheech and Chong, which reinforced stoner culture on the big screen, and I dare say, kept the general population in the cannabis closet. Some of that Spicoli-type [Fast Times at Ridgemont High](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083929/) imagery may linger, but for the most part a new, more nuanced conversation has emerged. \n\nThe new widespread acceptance of cannabis is the result of a plethora of factors, including what might be called the normalization of marijuana within mainstream media. Here are our top 7 television and web programs, some more educational than others, that are changing the dialogue about cannabis on a daily basis. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bda529f1b0a50011ad58dc/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_9.59.24_AM.png)\nSanjay Gupta single handedly changed the conversation about medicinal cannabis.\n\n### 1. Weed by Sanjay Gupta\n\n[Weed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3IMfIQ_K6U) brought cannabis onto television screens all across the country. The three part docu-series, which was aired on CNN, explored many different topics in the medical marijuana world. The series was created by celebrity doctor, Sanjay Gupta, whose personal opinion on cannabis even changed as he learned more about its wide ranging medical efficacy. Gupta, who apologized for some of his previous statements in which he claimed that marijuana had no medical benefit, created the show to teach people about the importance of medical marijuana. To say the least, the airing of this show was a game changer for the industry.\n\nSanjay Gupta used the same scientific information that changed his mind on medical marijuana to change the conversation on medical marijuana around the country. Gupta’s series featured a range of topics, including detailed scientific information like an active brain scan of someone who had consumed marijuana. Weed was a trailblazing mini-series that educated the national audience on the idea that medical marijuana could be greatly beneficial for a wide range of conditions. If you are interested in educating a non cannabis consumer, this is an excellent place to start.\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bda52bf1b0a50011ad58dd/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_10.01.53_AM.png)\nWeediquette delves into the many cultural aspects surrounding cannabis use.\n\n### 2. Weediquette\n\n[Weediquette](https://www.viceland.com/en_us/show/weediquette-id) started as a web series in 2013 and launched on Viceland in February of 2016. Hosted by Krishna Andavolu, who is originally from Princeton, New Jersey, Weediquette explores cannabis across the country and the world, from Rhode Island weed worshippers to cannabis dealers who are trying to get legal to opioid addicts using cannabisin lieu of their more addictive counter parts. \n\nAndavolu (and try not to have a crush on him) doesn’t shy away from controversial topics like medical marijuana and children or the prosecution of long-term non-violent drug offenses. Weediquette provides an extremely educational view of the world of cannabis that engages people in and outside of the industry with new, interesting topics and ideas. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bda52df1b0a50011ad58de/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_10.03.54_AM.png)\n'They Guy' delivers pot to every hood in NYC and it's like being a fly on the wall within people's lives.\n\n### 3. High Maintenance \n\nLike Weediquette, [High Maintenance](https://vimeo.com/channels/highmaintenance/videos) started as a web series. The first episodes aired in 2012 on Venmo, then it transitioned on to HBO in 2016. The show, which was created by married couple Katja Blienfield and Ben Sinclair, follows the life of an unnamed Brooklyn pot dealer who remains anonymous throughout the whole series. \n\nThe show focuses on the variety of characters that the dealer delivers marijuana to, who remain largely unnamed as well. The show provides an entertaining look into the lives of people who use cannabis, and breaks down stereotypes about who marijuana consumers are in an extremely entertaining way. The show also approaches non-cannabis related topics that face many people across the country, like gentrification. \n\nRELATED: [TOP TEN MARIJUANA INSPIRED INSTAGRAM ACCOUNTS](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/58b4b02310b47e000bb27b62/the-top-10-marijuana-inspired-instagram-accounts)\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bda52ff1b0a50011ad58df/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_10.05.22_AM.png)\nBong Apetit explores the intersection of food and cannabis.\n\n### 4. Bong Appetit\n\n[Bong Appetit](https://video.vice.com/en_us/show/bong-appetit-tv) is a web series on vice.com that shows the interconnectedness between food and cannabis. Each episode ranges from 10 to 25 minutes and explore topics ranging from a 91 year old grandmother who makes cannabis infused comfort food to high-end cannabis dining. Bong Appetit combines two of the largest trends sweeping across the country now, food and cannabis. \n\nCurrently, there are two seasons that have featured different foods from cannabis coffee to marijuana sundaes in states all across the country. The show is a great introduction into all of the of the different ways that cannabis can be consumed and how it can be incorporated into everyday life. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bdaaaabf131200158500a5/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_10.25.02_AM.png)\nMary Louise Parker is the star of the popular TV show Weeds.\n\n### 5. Weeds\n\n[Weeds](http://www.sho.com/weeds) is one of the first shows that brought suburban cannabis use into the mainstream through a mix of comedy and real-life situations. The show, which ran from 2005 to 2012, was about a mother in a fictional suburb of Los Angeles who turned to selling marijuana to support her family after her husband unexpectedly passed away. Weeds won many different awards for its excellent acting and writing and continuously challenged many different norms related to marijuana. Weeds focused on personal moral codes rather than laws and helped normalize cannabis in pop-culture. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bdaaacbf131200158500a6/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_10.27.41_AM.png)\nMarijuana Man, it just keeps going and going...\n\n### 6. Marijuana Man\n\n[Marijuana Man](https://www.youtube.com/user/2MarijuanaMan) proclaims itself to be the longest running marijuana show in the world. Running on the internet since 1997, Marijuana Man is a pretty simple show, which features one man in British Columbia who enjoys smoking marijuana in his free time. The show features him smoking a variety of marijuana strains everywhere from in his bedroom to the bathtub and has garnered him 92,268 followers on youtube. Now, Marijuana Man is sponsored to smoke weed and brings a sense of levity and casualty to the fact that he is actually consistently filming himself doing something illegal. Marijuana Man points out the dichotomy of cannabis and its grey area between legality and illegality. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58bda527f1b0a50011ad58db/embedded_images/58bdaaaebf131200158500a7/Screen_Shot_2017-03-06_at_10.29.08_AM.png)\nLife in a cube is hard, it may drive you to smoke.\n\n### 7. Workaholics\n\n[Workaholics](http://www.cc.com/shows/workaholics) is a comedy about three tele-marketers, Adam, Blake, and Anders, who work and live together in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The show is about the fresh-out-of-college trio and focuses on the causality and normality of drugs in younger generations. Cannabis is no longer something shocking, rather it is now just as much a part of life as alcohol. The show stars their drug dealer who serves them and other “suburban weed consumers”. \n\nWorkaholics is currently on its 7th and final season, and the three stars and writers of the show say their eccentric, party-animal characters are just amplified versions of their real life selves. Comedy Central, where the show is aired, has let the writers explore many different ideas and topics related to cannabis, allowing them to relate to their viewership through the presence of marijuana.\n\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://www.hellomd.com/health-wellness/56201c206430320006bb0000/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post. Artisanal Products\n\nSmall batch, artisan products have gained traction in the world of craft-beer, so why not the world of cannabis? More cannabis companies are beginning to embrace a farm-to-table approach to curating unique and specialized marijuana products. Small, artisanal producers have gained popularity in some of cannabis’ biggest markets, like California, and their popularity is projected to continue to grow.\n\nFlow Kana, a company out of California’s Mendocino Valley, focuses on sustainable, boutique cannabis strains that are grown in small batches. Flow Kana has relationships with small family farmers that allow them to access high-quality outdoor grown cannabis that is up to their high standards. Flow Kana fits a niche in the cannabis industry, providing specialized strains to dispensaries all across California. \n\nHerba Buena, another artisanal cannabis producer, is known for their specially curated tinctures and products that bring craft-style to functional medicinal cannabis. Herba Buena embraces its Napa location through a winery-like approach to producing unique, sun grown cannabis products. Herba Buena uses organic and biodynamic cannabis when crafting their products. They even embrace wine-like tastings that expose people to the wonders of different cannabis products and strains through the guidance of “sensameliers”. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58756d23772f3e0008ef0ece/embedded_images/58756f01e4f694000c3eb6ea/Screen_Shot_2017-01-10_at_3.31.41_PM.png) \n\nBloom Farms is another medical marijuana company that works with small family farmers in California. They extract their cannabis oil products without any solvents, leaving their products residue free. Lab testing is integral product production and release for both potency and purity, providing patients with small batch, clean products. Bloom Farms is also committed to bettering the world in which they conduct business by being a part of a 1 for 1 program. For every purchase from Bloom Farms, they will donate one meal to someone in need.\n\n### 2. The Industry is Getting Professional\n\nThe cannabis industry is moving out of a grey zone and into the mainstream. Overwhelming nationwide support means that cannabis no longer needs to hide in the shadows. According to the latest Gallup Poll, 87% of Americans support medical cannabis and 60% support recreational cannabis. \n\nSilicon Valley executives are now leaving their tech jobs to join the rapidly growing industry. Mark Williams and Sasha Robinson, the founders of Firefly Vaporizers, both left tech jobs in the Silicon Valley to create one of the most high end vaporizers on the market. This is a trend we expect to see continue, especially as the industry expands into new markets. It is no surprise, however, because the industry is expected to accelerate to a projected $25 billion in the coming years. \n\n### 3. Big Pharma & Synthetic Cannabinoids\n\nCannabinoids are continuing to gain traction as viable medicinal products, particularly in the wake of the opioid epidemic sweeping the country. As more people are becoming addicted to legal opioids, there is a constant search for pain relieving alternatives without the highly addictive qualities of opioids. There are a few synthetic cannabinoids currently on the market, mostly targeted towards patients with conditions like cancer. Synthetic cannabinoids, however, are becoming more attractive to people, especially after the DEA’s recent clarification that even hemp based cannabinoids are considered a Schedule 1 substance. Fear over possible legal repercussions will cause people to seek out synthetics, pushing the industry to expand. \n\n### 4. Sports Will Green Light Marijuana Use\n\nMany athletes have become advocates for marijuana use to help recover from sports related chronic pain and injuries. From UFC fighters like Ronda Rousey to football players like Ricky Williams, professional athletes have become advocates for stopping marijuana testing and allowing players to use cannabis as a medication. Rousey made comments at a press conference after the suspension of MMA fighter Nick Diaz for marijuana use, saying that marijuana is not a performance enhancing drug and it is only tested for political reasons. Williams, who also experienced a series of suspensions and repercussions from his cannabis use while in the NFL, has now become an advocate for marijuana use in the world of professional sports. The former Heisman Trophy winner and All-American has even founded a cannabis-friendly gym that allows people to incorporate cannabis into their workout regime. \n\nRousey and Williams are just two of the many athletes calling for a change. All major sports leagues in the United States, except for the NHL, ban the use of marijuana by their players, but they allow for the use of harmful substances like opioids. The opioid epidemic is one of the many reasons some players are hoping that marijuana will become allowed for players in states where it is medically legal. Many athletes, who often get injured due to the nature of their job, find themselves being prescribed opioids for everything from invasive surgeries to shoulder pain. Many players think that marijuana is the most viable alternative to addictive opioids and that if they live in states that approve of medical marijuana, they should be able to access it as a medication without repercussions.\n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58756d23772f3e0008ef0ece/embedded_images/58756d28772f3e0008ef0ed0/Screen_Shot_2017-01-10_at_3.23.16_PM.png)\n\n### 5. Luxury Cannabis Products\n\nLuxury cannabis products that give cannabis users an experience, rather than just a dose of marijuana, are becoming increasingly popular in the industry. Madame Munchie is a company that makes traditional macarons complete with a 20 mg dose of THC. The gourmet french pastries have won a variety of awards, including San Fransisco patients’ choice, High Times best edible, and HempCon’s best desert. The variety of flavors, including Hazelnut Mocha and Grilled PB+J, are made to be savored and enjoyed in one sitting. Unlike the high dosage of some cannabis edibles, Madame Munchie makes their products to be enjoyed completely rather than being split apart to be consumed. \n\nDéfoncé Chocolates makes luxury chocolate bars that happen to be medicated with high quality cannabis. Défoncé is a company run by two chocolatiers who have used their chocolate making skills to craft chocolate bars infused with single-origin, sun grown cannabis. The chocolate bars come in almost every flavor imaginable including vanilla, matcha, milk, coffee, mint, dark, hazelnut, and extra dark. Each bar comes with 180mg of THC. \n\nKikoko Teas, which are currently only available for pre-order, are specialized cannabis teas in a variety of flavors, each one with a different purpose. The teas were created by two incredibly accomplished women who designed their teas as an alternative to traditional pharmaceutical medications. The teas come in four different flavors: positivi-tea (for mood enhancement), sensuali-tea (for libido), sympa-tea (for pain), and tranquili-tea (for sleep). Kikoko Teas is also a company with a cause, donating 5% of their profits to providing cannabis medication to children with seizure disorders.\n\nFOLLOW US ON [FACEBOOK](https://www.facebook.com/pg/hellomdcompany/posts/) & [INSTAGRAM](https://www.instagram.com/hellomd_com/?hl=en) \n\n### 6. Microdosing-Friendly Products\n\nMicrodosing is a great way to achieve many of the benefits of medicinal cannabis without the high that marijuana is known for. Microdosing can help people manage their symptoms throughout the day without any unwanted side effects. Microdosing friendly products are now becoming more popular as more people begin to embrace the low dose practice. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58756d23772f3e0008ef0ece/embedded_images/58756e1d772f3e000cd4074f/Screen_Shot_2017-01-10_at_3.26.35_PM.png)\n \nKiva Confections, who is well known for their product that are great for microdosing, has come out with a line of mints. Each Petra mint has 2.5mg of THC and they come in two different flavors, Moroccan Mint and Eucalyptus. Both flavors of mints are infused with matcha and are sugar free, making them a great choice for micro dosing on the go without an increased sugar intake. \n\nSatori chocolate bites are also giving patients the ability to deliciously dose small amounts of cannabis throughout the day. Satori chocolate bites come in a variety of different flavors and different doses. Satori’s coffee beans in dark chocolate and high bush blueberries in milk chocolate each have 2 mg of THC per piece, while their raisins in organic milk chocolate come in at 1 mg per piece. They also have wild strawberries in organic milk chocolate that have 3 mg of THC per piece. Their dark chocolate products are made with Fino de Aroma, some of the most sought after cocoa beans in the world, while their milk chocolate is sourced from THCO, an award winning and sustainable chocolate company. Satori infuses their products with sun grown cannabis oil that is created by AbsoluteXtracts. \n\nCannaAthlete, is a new brand to the market and is backed by two industry veterans Jim McAlpine of 420 Games and Seibo Shen of VapeExhale. Deep ties into the athletic community led them to the development of their micro dose product called Activation Spray which may be self titrated at 1mg a spray. They seek to elevate rather than obliterate.\n\n### 7. Cannabis Tastings\n\nCannabis tastings are becoming more popular as more states are legalizing both medical and recreational cannabis. Cannabis tastings are associated with the artisan cannabis movement. People are beginning paying attention to the quality and intricacies of different cannabis products. Herba Buena’s social club is a member only group that organizes wine-like cannabis tastings. The cannabis tastings are very educational and they provide patients with explanations of different products available and what their purpose is.\n\nHerba Buena’s social club currently requires a membership and a medical marijuana card, but the world of cannabis tasting is soon to expand to a wider clientele in California since the recreational marijuana legalization bill passed in the most recent voting cycle. Cannabis tastings have become popular in Colorado, where cannabis is often paired with food and wine for a fully immersive experience. Pairing cannabis strains with meals, much like wine, is the cutting edge of the recreational marijuana industry. Colorado is planning to increasingly capitalize on this trend too, as Denver recently legalized Amsterdam style cannabis cafes. \n\n### 8. Intriguing and Interesting Product Design\n\nMany of the products in the cannabis industry were built with utility in mind, but tides are turning as style is becoming increasingly incorporated into a variety of products. The recent swing towards design focused products include the sleek and practical Hmbldt vaporizer pen that was named one of the 25 best inventions of 2016 by Time magazine. The modern and minimalist styled vape pen dispenses a specified dose of cannabis oil, specifically with a medical necessity in mind. The pens include relief, sleep, bliss, and calm, each made to target a specific symptom or medical condition. \n\n![](https://hellomd-production.s3.amazonaws.com/articles/58756d23772f3e0008ef0ece/embedded_images/58756e20772f3e000cd40750/Screen_Shot_2017-01-10_at_3.27.29_PM.png)\n \nThe world of marijuana glassware is getting an update as well. Jane West, a leading cannabis activist and founder of Women Grow, has recently raised $1 million in capital for a new [glassware](https://cannabisnow.com/jane-west-raises-1m-capital-launches-modern-glassware-collection/) collection. West has collaborated with Grav Labs, an Austin based company that is known for their production of high quality glassware, on the venture. The collection includes 5 glass pieces so far, each in a stunning cobalt blue color with unique shapes curated with ergonomics in mind. \n\n### 9. More Marijuana on TV\n\nAside from cannabis guest starring more often on television shows as a casual or medicinal product, rather than a taboo, marijuana based television shows are starting to go more mainstream. High Maintenance, which started as a web series before making it to the small screen, follows the life of an unnamed pot delivery man. MTV’s new show “Mary + Jane” stars two women as “pot-reprenuers” who created a cannabis delivery app and follows their life in the industry. Sony Pictures recently booked John Malkovich to star in a new drama called “Humboldt”, which is about the marijuana industry that has flourished in the town. Even Netflix has jumped on the cannabis train, recently ordering a new series for 2017 called “Disjointed” starring Kathy Bates. \n\n### 10. Athleticism and Cannabis\n\nCannabis has gained traction in the athletic world, not only as a way to recovery after injuries, but also as a way to enhance athletic prowess. One Colorado triathlete and gym owner, who was interviewed by Men’s Journal, claimed that he trains with better form and focus when he enters a controlled meditative state caused by marijuana edibles. \n\nAn Outside Magazine [correspondent](http://www.businessinsider.com/how-marijuana-affects-working-out-2015-1), named Gordy Megroz, also got interested in cannabis’s relationship with sport through many of his friends who claimed it helped their skiing performance. Megroz conducted a series of test that compared his performance when he had taken cannabis and when he had not. In a series of tests he conducted on a treadmill, which was set at 5 mph with a 2.5% increase in incline every two minutes, he found that he could consistently last 30 seconds longer when he had consumed cannabis. \n\nMany pro-athletes who advocate for cannabis also thinks it helps their performance by assisting them in recovery and getting them back on the field faster than traditional pharmaceuticals, especially when they are rehabbing from injuries. Cannabis and athleticism is an topic which will be explored more in the coming year as more people have access to cannabis as a medical and recreational product.\n\n_______________________________________________________________________\n\nIf you are new to cannabis and want to learn more, take a look at our [Cannabis 101](https://hellomd.com/articles/cannabis-101-your-quick-guide-to-medical-marijuana) post.
